Ha!!! Sucker LOL. Man, better hope Momma's not too upset. LOL Congrats on the purchase!! I need to finish my R45 and take it back west. Should be done by spring (Fingers crossed).
Yeah was so mad watching the video on why you didn't get this in the first place and the end calmed me down. Don't have to gobble up multiple beers today😂
Congratulations buddy! Same thing happened to me my friend let me ride his 2020 for about 50 miles, And three days later I was off to the nearest dealer that had the one I wanted which was 60 miles away. Didn’t matter. Ubered there, and ride it home on Veterans Day! Enjoy!
I know this video is 2 years old, but last Saturday I went into my local Triumph/BMW/Ducati/Indian dealer, trying to get some stuff sorted on my 765 RS..... took one of these out for a test ride.... Bought it. I have all the carbon fiber bits, with the Akra silencer on it and just absolutely love it. Got about 500ish kilometers on the thing and it keeps surprising me.... I do miss my Triumph though
Congrats fellow XRian! Get the oil- and radiator guards asap though, it accumulates dings in the radiatorgrill in just a few hundred miles so you want the protection. I`m excited to see what mods you are going to do to yours:)
Haha nice name! Thanks for the welcoming. Yeah that guard is probably a good idea & I should get it sooner than later, good reminder! I’ve got some mods planned already so more to come! Thanks for watching.
It appened the same things for me... I was interested by a Superduke GT but after having tested this bike I told myself, this is the one I want... Like you every mile I ride is done with the smile... It is something that you can't denied...😃✌️
I had a Gen 1 s1000xr(2015-2019) and took the gen 2 (2020- ) out for a demo and ended up trading up. NO regrets, at all. Only add-ons are rad guards. Puig Touring screen, some SW motech bar ends and a screen protector for that amazing TFT. So much fun for every kind of riding!!

You'll get back on the 900xr after you rode around on that ill crafted ergonomically challenged under performing seat they're offering. The seat is cute to look at....that's it. Feels like your sitting on the inside of a shopping cart...😁 Ride strong.
My girlfriend shocked me a couple of nights ago, she bought me the 2019 model, this is a great review, made me chuckle! i'm looking forward to my first ride!
on point review. I bought mine a few weeks ago (same model). I went in expecting to buy the RR and left with this one. I removed the GPS bracket in front of the windshield and immediately added radiator guards. I put on almost 400 miles already in Michigan early winter and this bike is exactly the type of bike you can fall in love with!!
@@sidestand I spent a weekend in April (in Las Vegas) at California Superbike School (which was awesome) with the RR. I also was able to sit on the RR and the XR side by side at the dealer. I would love to have an RR - but my main requirement is 6-8 hour trips...the XR seating position and amenities with a [somewhat] RR performance made the XR a no brainer. Personally, so far, the XR has more performance than I can ever imagine wanting - it does dip into curves easy (like you said in your video) - within 10 minutes I was leaning into curves almost as good as I do on my Duke 790. The RR leans into curves like butter - but it is shorter and etc... I'd argue that you don't need the RR for public road riding and that the XR is more than adequate to treat public roads like a race track AND be able to travel for long periods.
@@sidestand you too - thanks for the review and ride safe! FYI - I got the same sport package color scheme - which I love... at the dealer we looked at next year's colors and I really wanted this exact color scheme; it does make you want to go out and ride!!
Haven't you tried Ducati Multi V4S? For me XR was on 1st place, before I rode V4S. What a perfect bike to ride, awesome suspension, addictive engine, gorgeous wind protection. For me it's fast like XR and comfortable like GS. Like GS and XR have a baby! But that addictive acceleration on XR after 6000, like catapult, still cannot forget it.
I freaking told you dude! Try the S1000XR and don't look back! So pumped that you got to try it, and stoked that your reaction to it was every bit of what I expected!! Congrats!
Happened to me my friend gave me a go of his mk1 2019 bike. I fell in love from the get go went straight out and bought the exact same bike. Put radiator guards and engine bars on mine. Best bike I've ever owned apart from the Hyabusa. Safe riding.
Thanks and if you put the side panniers and topbox on. These bikes are great touring bikes as well. I put a taller screen on it reduces wind noise fantastically
HAHAHA!!! I KNEW IT! Dude I remember reaching out and telling you to grab one of these! Congrats to the purchase and I look forward to more videos brotha.
Congratulations on the purchase! Now you have owned it for about a year I am curious to know how reliable it has been? I was going to buy and earlier model S1000XR but they seem to have too many issues so I bought a Yamaha instead.
Hahaha, you’ve got the breaking strain of a Twinkie. I did pretty much the same thing, but I came off the s1000rr and changed to the XR. So much more of a relaxed ride, especially on the UK roads. Only had my triple black since Friday, but no regrets about selling the rr, apart from not being able to show the Audi & BMW drivers it’s best not to mess with an rr 🤣🤣
Not saying this as a hater, but as a fan. I knew this was going to happen. That f900xr wasn't gonna cut it for you man. This one is sporty and toury enough that I'd recommend taking it to the track once before putting money on the r7. I wanted the multrastrada v4 for you selfishly (since I want one😃) but the s1000xr is equally awesome and truly happy for you
Yeah you were right on the money! Will def take this to the track one day, but also still pretty excited for the R7. It will serve a purpose for me to mainly improve my riding techniques without any assists & not have to worry about controlling the power. I was also looking at the Multistrada but the 19” wheel was off-putting. The pikes peak version was just released with 17” wheels but way above my pay grade. So here we are with the S1KXR 😀. Thanks for the support & glad you’re enjoying my content!
The same thing happened to me. I went for a ride on Black Friday and stopped by the newest BMW dealership in the area. I test rode this amazing bike and then traded in my 2017 FJR 1300 on the spot. Do NOT test ride this bike unless you in tend on leaving with one. It is truly amazing.
The 2021 XR is just great. No troubling vibes. A little bit of engine heat but nothing to write home about. Superb handling and performance. Nothing Adventurer about it and don't even think of comparing it with the most excellent (but not better) GS.
Are you keeping the F-XR? I have a 2016 S-XR and absolutely love it. I test rode the 21, and whilst it was slightly better in most departments, it wasn't enough for me to change up. But it is the best bike. I also rode an F-XR as well, and really liked that, was even thinking of changing to that because it was so light and flickable, and it has enough power where you need it, but rode my S again this past weekend, and it really puts the smile on your face.
Right on! Thanks for sharing. I also find myself smiling more than usual on the S, I'll be revealing some updates regarding the F-XR on my upcoming video. Thanks for watching!
I keep looking at these. My biggest pet peeve is the dealer network in my area. Coming from the mt10. I’ve been looking at this and the new mt. How is the comfort?
So I know that they lump this in the adv group , but have you ridden the new Tuono standard ? For the price difference I'm really contemplating buying the Aprilia . But I haven't gotten a chance to ride the BMW yet , so maybe it'll be a ton more comfy or something ?!
I haven’t ridden the Tuono but it def looks like a bargain for a V4 with that standard’s price range for sure. However, I know it’s subjective but I prefer the looks on the XR & the BMW TFT dash is hard to compete against. As far as comfort, I can say the XR delivers. I may need to find a Tuono to review & compare in the future. Thanks for watching.
@@sidestand I also love the looks of the XR , buuuut I also love the looks of the Tuono ....... Aarrrgh !! I guess I'm going to just have to schedule a test drive to try out the XR , oh darn !! Thanks for your input , safe riding !!
Tried the XR for the first time yesterday.. and got the same feeling as you 😂 now I have to own one.. have my eyes one one exactly the same as yours 2021 - any thing to look after, now you’ve had it a year you may have found som faults ?? Time to switch from GSX-S1000F to the XR 😂😂
The F900XR for me, felt like the initial tip in was faster during transitional switchback roads. This is how I personally feel but could be different for others given their riding experience & body position. I’d also like to add that I’m still “learning” the S1000XR as I haven’t had much saddle time on it as of late due to external circumstances I’m dealing with at the moment. But once I get a feel for the S1K characteristics with more saddle time I can give a more appropriate comparison regarding handling, potentially with a comparison video given there’s enough demand for it.
Man that's the problem with the S1KXR and the big GSA. If you ride it, you want it. Then you have the character of the T120 and you want both. Then you realise you'll never sell the Striple that you do have so you figure all you need is a bike collection 😂. It never ends.
Aside from a few things you mentioned at the beggining of the video is there anything else that comes with this M sport version? The price of the M sport is much higher. Thank you
This is the road that Honda should have followed. What do I mean? Use the CB1000R as the basis for a Sport Tourer along the lines of the S1000XR, with a sweet, predicatable yet powerful detuned 1000cc from the Fireblade it would fill Hondas range with a highly capable, fun, four cylinder that can eat canyons and big kilometers for breakfast and them some. Unless they do this I am very likely to end up with a S1000XR as my next purchase.
Did you ever ride Yamaha Tracer 7 because thats what I currently own and Im thinking about buying S1000 XR. Do you recommend it? My type of riding is having fun in canyon twisties and sometimes 4-8 hour trips.
I bought my first bike from there in 2017. It was a 2016 s1000xr. Great people there. If anyone is in the area, go across the street to the shopping center and go to Johnny Pacific. Get the chicken Al pastor and banana Nutella empanadas. They are to die for.
Sounds great at the start of the video. Great idle warm up sound. I have a '21 R1250GS. Absolutely love it but would like to shed 50lbs from it and lean forward slightly more. I sat on a '24 S1KXR. Felt perfect in riding position, but seat was very hard. I did like the seat shape better than the gen 2 models which pushed up on my gems too much. Aftermarket seat will likely help either gen feel much better. Comfort is my only concern. The GS seat is quite comfortable and the ESA in Road mode is plush but fine even in the fast Twisties/sweepers, which is my fave. I'm hoping the ESA in Road mode on the XR is not too much stiffer. I've heard it's a little stiffer. But I know I'll enjoy the 50 less pounds, 17" front wheel, slight forward lean and sportbike like performance. I think the XR is the cure for the tweaks I'd like on the otherwise wonderful and super fun GS. I had a '15 R1200GSA in the past. Awesome adv bike. I bought a regular GS this time to shed the 50lbs. Ready to shed another 50lbs bike wise. Save energy and fatigue on the long fun rides.
So is the 6th gear taller than the R9T? Really the only reason I would change to a sport tourer (had one before it was a 5 speed) would be to have a bike that didn’t sound like it was screaming a 70mph
It has the brake-hold which is useful for hill stop/starts. I can see it has more top end power and quick shifter is smoother. Great bike, but I prefer the F900XR fo my needs.
@Mark Andras There was a recall on the BMW Front Hayes calipers due to leaking & a stop sale was ordered for several models including the XR. Brembos were used to replace it. Not sure if mine came out of the plant with Brembos or dealer installed.
The F900 at initial Tip in at lower speeds is faster while the S is a bit slower (due to weight), however it felt more stable. S was also much faster at corner exit. Torque downlow on the F is also snappier while on the S is smoother. The longer sweepers is what sang to me on the S. I may need to make a more dedicated video on this subject in the near future but hope this helps!
If you ride the RR below 9000, before the shiftcam cut in it pulls so much better, 4 gear roll-on leave it for dead and that is a race bike, have to Rev it so much more than the old model, which is why I didn’t upgrade and have kept it.
The ADV styling is what actually puts me off. If BMW had a more traditional sports tourer based on this platform, or even a S1000r with a bikini fairing, I'd be all over it.
Bummer! It takes some getting used to but really didn’t bother me much. I’ll see how it gets on with longer rides. If it becomes too bothersome I’m sure I could find a heavier bar end weight.
@@sidestand I have a 17 s1000r, (48200km on it so far), which most people complain is more vibration prone compared to the current R and XR. Personally I do not notice the vibration except when carrying a full tank of fuel on the track while also at or close to redline. The fluid levels in the tank do seem to make a difference. Perhaps I am just not sensitive to it or my bike is just less vibby than others. There are heavier bar ends and bar snakes.
In line 4 so the power band is 6500 and above, the fun then begins. I wish there was more torque In he lower range revs, you defo have to ride it to get the best out of it.
We are following similar path… my first back was a 2018 BMW TnineT Racer. I just traded that in, three weeks back, for an S1000r. Same bikes, different variations! Only wish I was in southern ca to enjoy them more!
How many bikes you got now Mr Sidestand? I actually have a proper bikey question for you today, on bikes like this one, does all the bits at the front in front of the wee wind shield not obstruct your vision while you're riding? The view from the gopro is pretty much blocked by everything and I know it's lower on the helmet so I was curious :)
3! But I’ve got some updates on my upcoming episode I’ll be sharing soon! All the bits & bobs in front isn’t bothersome at all nor does it obstruct any views. The windshield only reduces buffeting around my chest, I’d have to get into a tuck if I don’t want my head getting turbulent. But really I’m so used to that since all I’ve had were nakeds. Should I go on a trip I’d def put on a taller screen. Good to hear from you Zoe! 🤙
Did you watch it to the end?
Ha!!! Sucker LOL. Man, better hope Momma's not too upset. LOL Congrats on the purchase!! I need to finish my R45 and take it back west. Should be done by spring (Fingers crossed).

What an amazing looking machine. Xrs are gorgeous and stunning all in one....a luxuriously ergonomic rocket ship.
Haha I like that! That’s exactly what they are!
Man that's the problem with the S1KXR and the big GSA. If you ride it, you want it. Then you have the character of the T120 and you want both. Then you realise you'll never sell the Striple that you do have so you figure all you need is a bike collection 😂. It never ends.
Story of my life lol
There is no comparison. The XR is a big upgrade in my opinion.
Ride safe.
Haha congrats! He’s all growed up!! 3 BMWs now, so which one are you going to sell?
Haha thanks! I’ll never grow up, by choice lol! More updates on the next vid, stay tuned 🙌
I bought my first bike from there in 2017. It was a 2016 s1000xr. Great people there.
If anyone is in the area, go across the street to the shopping center and go to Johnny Pacific. Get the chicken Al pastor and banana Nutella empanadas. They are to die for.
Wait!!!!!! It comes with what silencer ???????
Yeah the package I got did
Sounds great at the start of the video.
PS. Only doing street on big bikes now. No more managing 600lbs off road. I'll get a separate bike for adv at some point. 300-400lbs only.
So is the 6th gear taller than the R9T? Really the only reason I would change to a sport tourer (had one before it was a 5 speed) would be to have a bike that didn’t sound like it was screaming a 70mph
where can i buy those beautiful red gloves you are wearing ?
It has the brake-hold which is useful for hill stop/starts. I can see it has more top end power and quick shifter is smoother. Great bike, but I prefer the F900XR fo my needs.
I haven’t tried that hill start, I’m sure it’ll come in handy one day. The F900 is a great bike, glad it suits your needs!
Tried both , I also prefer the F900XR, it's more agile and fast enough.
How do you compare it to the S1000R? Is it as sporty in riding?
Congrats , great choice.
Thank you!
I own the 2021 icegrey, carbon fiber version of this monster. A little correction at 4.27, NOT brembos, BMW calipers you mean right?
Mine came with Brembo front calipers & rears are the BMW Hayes calipers.
Not sure when they made the switch to Brembo fronts for the 21 production model.
@Mark Andras There was a recall on the BMW Front Hayes calipers due to leaking & a stop sale was ordered for several models including the XR. Brembos were used to replace it. Not sure if mine came out of the plant with Brembos or dealer installed.
Damn, just thinking to buy it that's why watching your video!
Are you sure you’re allowed to ride over 50 cc’s with those gloves?
Nce video, how do you compare it to the F900XR?
Right on! Haven't tried the RR yet but good to know.
Yeah! Cuban Rider is dope 👊🏼😎🔥‼️
The ADV styling is what actually puts me off.
If BMW had a more traditional sports tourer based on this platform, or even a S1000r with a bikini fairing, I'd be all over it.
You should ride it to see if you like it. I had the 2018 version and I wish I didn't sell it.
Why it has brembo brakes??did you change them?
How it is in comparison with an fz1 2nd gen?
Congrats on buying beautiful bike
Thank you!
How tall are you and is the bike stable at stops for your height?
5’11”, 32” inseam. No problems stopping
Nice! I'm buying one tomorrow! Lol
Do it! Lol
REALLY WANT THIS BIKE FOR 2022, I'M 5,5 TALL ANY SUGGESTION TO MODS THIS BIKE FOR A LITTLE BIT LOWER SEAT
I believe they make a low suspension version & you also have the option of a lower seat as well.
I felt a lot of vibrations through the bars. I'd wanted one for ages. Test rode one but I just couldn't get on with it!
Good to know! Yeah it really isn’t bad unless I pay attention to it & really focus.
@brian glandenning for some reason links are auto removed now from RUclips comments. It’s best to email me. sidestand@yahoo.com
@@sidestand ok
Does this motor compare pergormance wise to the 1250gs
The last half minute of the video tells it all, I guess :D
In line 4 so the power band is 6500 and above, the fun then begins. I wish there was more torque In he lower range revs, you defo have to ride it to get the best out of it.
We are following similar path… my first back was a 2018 BMW TnineT Racer. I just traded that in, three weeks back, for an S1000r. Same bikes, different variations!
Only wish I was in southern ca to enjoy them more!
Right on! Congrats on your S1000r!
“One Hour Later…I bought it…”😂😂😂😂
Did you trade one in?
I talk about this in detail on an upcoming episode, stay tuned.
you have chosen wisely
I love it! Thanks
Well done 👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
damnnn... such a beautiful gloves, dude
Thanks bro! I dig it
What gloves are they!?
They are Torc gloves
Congrats
Thank you!
@@sidestand I have the same one. Also ride in Malibu. Let’s ride?
@R.O.I Let’s roll! Do you have Instagram?
@@sidestand yeah same username r.o.i
hahaha, i told you to test it.. now you are screwed :) you have to think about a bigger garage, when you buy bikes on every new test ride... luv it
Haha I remember! Thanks for the suggestion, & yup..I’m screwed, I need to chill with my test rides lol
Love my 2019!
VFR GANG!!!
This or the 1250GS?
This for me.
awesome bike
I have it, awesome bike to have fun and travel..
Cool! Yeah it’s a blast
XD Congrats!
Thank you!
Good Man!
Thanks man!
Lol congrats 🎊🍾
Haha thanks! 🙌
