We used to walk in the Peak District years ago. Camping in Edale we did this walk several times, its one I often think of. So many thanks for bringing back so many lovely memories.
Fantastic route. I done the same one on all trails instead of getting lost on the plateau I followed the edge round to kinder downfall. And you’re right That decent down penine way and jacobs ladder is a tough one.
This is a great route. Certainly gets the heart pumping as one comment has said. I am in my 70s and did that about 18 months ago. If you take it slow-ly and steadily it is doable for almost anyone with normal hiking experience. But definitely not for everyone. Not easy at all, but not the hardest I have done, but very enjoyable. One tip; I would use a lavalier microphone with muffler to combat wind noise on your videos.
Who's the good looking bald guy? 😆 Great video. What a day and what a route. I can personally vouch having walked a few supposed hard routes in the peaks and this tops them. Cracking route. Highly recommend. Cheers again Andy.
hi Andy, just stumbled across your channel and am loving it! the route in this video is a good one, but there is even better stuff in the peaks. By the looks of things, you went up grindsbrook Clough, but imo the Clough just west of that, Crowden Clough, is a lot more fun, a bit like the short scramble at the top of grindsbrook but a bit harder and it's like that all the way up. A bit further north is wildboar Clough which comes from torside reservoir up onto the north side of bleaklow and I cannot recommend it enough, it's the absolute best the peaks has to offer, there's a few semi technical moves involved and I think is rated a grade 2 scramble but anyone who is fit and has a bit of confidence could deffinetely do it, honestly can't rave about it enough. I've done it in a few different weather conditions so if you do ever do it (and I really recommend, have I made that point yet?!) try to do it after at least a week of no rain, because otherwise the rock is very greasy and it becomes a bit annoying. I recently did it really early one morning after it had been -8°C overnight and all of the waterfalls were frozen over which was just stunning also, for a bit of practise navigating in areas like kinder scout, I've found walking from hoar Clough head (OS 145985) west to where the 'path' meets the pennine way (OS 092959) to be fantastic practice, it's slightly less boggy than kinder scout and is slightly less monotonous
Thanks so much for the info, I'll definitely check it out. I mainly hike in Snowdonia and the Lakes. The Peaks is much closer to me so I really need to start exploring more up there.
Grew up doing tha route since being 6 years old, my dad was an outdoors man and regularly would be doing 40 mile hikes.(and po holing/climbing)..my little legs racing trying o keep up 😆...was very quiet up there back then, only hardened walkers. Our boots were made of leather, were very heavy and waterproofed with Dubbin ...great for building muscle though 😄
It is a long hike but I think Crowden Horseshoe is a tough one too. I think tougher personally. Have you hiked that one at all? Enjoyed the vlog, thanks for sharing.
It's definitely worth planning a hike or camp now so you can get out as soon as you can. Lockdown has shown me that life is too short and to seize the day.
We did this accidentally a few weeks back, because after camping the night up kinder the rain had been so heavy that alot of our route had turned to a river so had to keep diverting
If you think that was a hard route try it the other way round as suggested by national trust walks on there website me &wife done it may 2024 in mixed weather conditions great vid thanks for posting
I live on the edge of Sheffield, about 20 miles away and like doing a 9 mile jog/walk route from Edale along the front edge and back down Jacobs ladder. You can also go right round to MamTor. Like the vids. Cheers. (Also spend loads of the time in the lakes - wild camped on Hart Crag last weekend... Beautiful weather.). Graham, Sheffield
I love this hike up to kinder scout, done it many times. But even as somebody who is not the most physically fit, i wouldn't class this a 5 out of 5 difficulty level ... I have been Snowdon, that is more difficult than the peak District (even kinder scout) Dont mean to sound horrible to anybody that might actually find this difficult, i just wouldn't class this as a 5/5 personally. This has given me motivation to get back out there though 👍👍
Up there last week, got lost a little at the peate lol , try the b-29 crash site bleakow amazing views , emotional feeling seeing the wreckage there. I think dovestones peake district , up chew road u kno if your fit enough just getting up there, again amazing views along the ridge defo worth a go.
Nice video that pal. What did you think go the Firepot meals? Not my favorite if I'm honest. There's a 22 mile Marsden to Edale route through the peaks over Bleaklow. That's a tough one
The 22 mile hike sounds brutal! To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of any of the dehydrated meals, I prefer to cook proper food when I'm out. However, Firepot meals aren't bad when you're looking for something light, quick and easy.
Sorry but I dodn’t consider that “hard”, last year at 84 and 7 weeks after a hip replacement I did half of that with a single elbow crutch. Sadly and misguidedly the path has been levelled in some places encouraging even more walkers and threatening to extend damage beyond the “improved“ section. There is a more challenging/entertaining scramble in the area which you missed. I really do not understand what is “tricky” about descending Jacob’s Ladder.
Please note the title. Personally, I think the Peaks are a piece of cake for most fit people. This is one of the hardest hikes (albeit not hard outside the Peaks).
Well done guys....very entertaining, brilliantly shot and narrated.
Thanks Ruth!

That's really nice, thanks for sharing.
Great video Andy! I watched all 15 minutes. Can’t wait for the next one.
Awesome, thank you!
Fantastic route. I done the same one on all trails instead of getting lost on the plateau I followed the edge round to kinder downfall. And you’re right That decent down penine way and jacobs ladder is a tough one.
I’m definitely going back there to try some new parts. Really nice and much easier than the Lakes and Snowdonia.
This is the exact route that me and some friends took on a July afternoon in 2014. It was very hot and dry but it was a glorious walk.

Thanks for sharing! I now have a lav mic so hopefully the sound quality will improve.
I did the exact same route a few weeks ago in the snow.
I wear Lomas Keswick boots they were fantastic pal.
That was a great hike Andy good to see you out and about really enjoyed that take care atb 👍👌
It felt so good to be out and about. Hope you can get out soon too!

This hike is great! I did it last weekend. Thanks for sharing it :)

I'll give that a go, thanks for sharing!
You're basically following the old pennine way route over kinder then the old alternative way back to edale.
Looks like a great route. I’m well Jel I don’t live near anything like that. Look forward to when we open up fully so I can travel. Stay safe.
It's definitely worth planning a hike or camp now so you can get out as soon as you can. Lockdown has shown me that life is too short and to seize the day.
@@BackpackingUK absolutely right 👍👍👍

I found parkhouse hill, followed by chrome hill to be a short but challenging walk. Especially in wet conditions.
I really want to do those. I think Chrome Hill is known as the Dragons Back?

I wish I lived closer! Cracking wild camping spot there, there's a couple I want to do around Helvellyn.
Loved this video dude! Went up kinder scout last year and thoroughly enjoyed it :)
It’s a great hike in the Peaks, one of the best.
I've been up kinder scout I went the route with jacobs ladder which is very hard as the rocks are very loose
Try the Bullock Smithy Hike. Sixty seven miles.
Classic route, great video. Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Brilliant video. Liked and subbed. Im going to try this later in the year. Did you use hiking boots or trainers?
I was wearing lighter hiking boots for this.
Great video you have inspired me to go here thanks
I'm doing this hike this weekend, want to try solo hiking more this year 🤔
Great! Let me know how you get on.
I've been planning to do this one for a while, really great video Andy!
Thanks 👍 Definitely give it a go, it’s a really nice route!

The Peaks have nothing on Snowdonia or the Lake District but this is definitely one of the harder walks on the Peaks.

Did this last week with my partner and spaniel, we all had the best day out
Great, so pleased you enjoyed it too
I did this walk when I was 10 as I am training to climb Ben nevis
Looks great which scramble is this?
The ascent looked like it was via Grindsbrook Clough, a nice scramble, challenging in wet weather!
Nice one I'd like to do it 😊

Kinder scout via grinds brook best way up to get the heart pumping and the legs throbbing. Always my chosen route 👍
I'll check that out next time I'm there. Thanks for the tip 👍
Sorry; I'm not going anywhere where its possible to get lost easily; however much appealing it might be.😅
Just done it today happy im alive
Haha hope you enjoyed it!
Could have done it with my eyes closed
Jaggers Clough is harder
Thanks for sharing 👍
HAHAHA hardest??? hahaha my 8 years son was boring on this trail way, wasn't hard enough for him, hehe
Hardest in The Peak District (if you can say anything is hard in the Peak District!)
I agree not hard at all, Edale skyline is a better hike but still not hard.
"Difficulty rating of 5 out of 5" ?? 😂 Have no YT vloggers hiked in Alps, Pyrenees, Dolomites, Rockies etc ? No wonder Europeans laugh at us 🤦🏻♂️
