Fun video. I bought an ice cream maker a few years ago. Doesn't need salt or ice. Just a very cold container and most of the add in ingredients need to be frozen. Very easy.

Be sure to flush your drain lines with plenty of water. That’s salt water going down. If old plumbing…. Could cause problems. I remove my cylinder, place it in a deep freezer or if using soon, in an ice packed cooler, then take the salty ice/water outside and pour it on some area that doesn’t matter. Looks yummy! I love making butter pecan ice cream.

I usually make a cooked vanilla custard style ice cream but when peaches 🍑 are in season, I make peach ice cream! I don’t add almond extract but I do add the juice of one lemon 🍋 & 1/2 cup sugar to my diced peaches. I chill my custard for 1-2 days before I churn it, so the flavors can meld before I freeze it. I’m going to try your recipe with the condensed milk & no cooking. It looked delicious!!! Thank you for sharing 🥰

Paula, I make snow cream in the summer. LOL I crush my ice in my Vitamix. I use milk, sugar, and vanilla. Put that in my Vitamix, and you have snow cream. You could use Sweetened Condensed Milk and put it in the crushed ice. I made some 2 days this week and it is really good. I love Peach Ice Cream, I am going to make this. The fresh peaches are in and I am going to make a trip to the Peach Orchard and get me some fresh peaches, Yum, Nothing is better than a fresh peach. I love Georgia peaches, but I live closer to South Carolina, so I guess they will have to do. Any peach this time of year is good. Love you, Paula. When it would snow, my mother would put out a bowl to get snow in it to make snow cream.

Actually, the brine (the water you poured off) is what has the lower freezing point. The weep hole is in the bucket to permit that brine to rise to the proper level. My folks always added water in the beginning so the brine would be present early so the churn would turn more freely.

I am with you Paula, my favorite homemade ice cream has always been vanilla. However, mother use to make a cherry pineapple homemade ice cream to take when our Church had an ice cream fellowship after the night service during the summer . She knew it was a flavor combination that no one else would bring and that was always my brother's favorite homemade ice cream. She would sometimes make peach ice cream when peaches were in season. I never appreciated the pineapple and cherry together when I was young because back then I didn't like maraschino cherries but I loved black cherry ice cream. Now I will eat maraschino cherry icecream but black cherry ice cream is still my favorite cherry ice cream. Mom would also make homemade ice cream sandwiches with the homemade chocolate cookie sandwich and the homemade vanilla ice cream but because I was so excited that my momma could make homemade ice cream sandwiches I would pass them all out to the kids in the neighborhood so she quit making them. The kids didn't believe me though so I had to prove I wasn't lying. She said there was no since in making them for our family since the only member of our family that got one was me . Unless of course she didn't tell me until everyone got at least one!! Anyway thanks for sharing your vanilla base with us as I didn't get my mother's recipe. By the way, I live in Georgia too and we got more snow growing up than we do nowadays and we made snow ice cream too. When there was a threat of snow mom would put a pot out to catch the fresh fallen snow. I hope you, your family, Eddie, and Theresa have a safe, Blessed, Super Sunday as well as a wonderful upcoming week. Stay Healthy and God Bless You All 💜

Once in a blue moon my mom would make homemade ice cream on our back porch in Southern California. My dad would do the crank thing on the side, my sister would sit on a towel on top. I seem to remember newspapers too. One time on a family trip we stopped for the night in Flagstaff, AZ. There was a lot of snow on the ground. Watching this video as I’ve finished making 2 batches of homemade ice cream. One I’m leaving as vanilla and the other will be snickerdoodle cookie ice cream. Your base is similar to what I use.
My recipe is: 4 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1.5 cups of sugar, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, and 1 can of evaporated milk. Then I add milk to fill the canister.
I also freeze my canister and make my mixture the day before (if I think about it) to make it so much faster.

Because peaches, cherries, and almonds are all in the same family, almond extract, and a very tiny amount brings out the flavors of peach and ice cream or even cherries in a cobbler or clafoutis. My mother and grandmother always taught me to add a dash of salt to the base to bring up the sweetness, and my mother was extra careful to make sure that the base tasted exaggerated because it tastes duller once it’s frozen. And because strawberries, one of my favorite flavors, is not in the same family as almonds, I loved that my Mamaw used a few grinds of black pepper to bring out the taste of the strawberries

I think we used 4 dz eggs for all that amount of ice cream. And if u didn’t crank u didn’t eat any. Our favorite was coffee or maple walnut all fresh from the farm. Several years prior to our leaving Texas for Alaska, my Mom used to make grape ice cream for my Dad's July 4th birthday and oh my, was it good.....your ice cream maker brought back some memories of the one we used to have but it wasn't electric!!! Thanks for the memories!

Just made vanilla ice cream and had a few hiccoughs, but know where I went wrong.......not enough ice/ salt and didn't let it churn long enough, which means I rushed it for sake of company. My redemption was the warm blackberry cobbler that was served with a soft ice cream over the top........heard no complaints and had leftovers readily taken home.

Ice cream looks delicious. That’s how my mom made it in the 80s. Modern ice cream makers are so much more efficient and economical. 🍨🍑

If you were making just vanilla ice cream, what ingredients would you leave out?

Just leave out the peaches and almond extract. You can also substitute other fruit for the peaches. My family always made banana.

Gee Paula, you're doing it the hard way. I bought the ice cream attachment for my KitchenAide stand mixer, mixed up the ingredients, poured it into the attachment bowl, and had soft serve in 20 minutes. Then 1-2 hours in the freer, and delishious ice cream.
