I just made this tonight, I used 2 cups heavy cream (whipping cream) and 1 cup whole milk and 3/4 cup of pure cane sugar with one vanilla pod and a splash of vanilla extract, it came out really smooth for not having eggs but I think I needed more vanilla, I'm cheap and I didn't want to use 2 pods😂 but 1 full tblsp of vanilla extract would have been perfect 👌.
I forget to say I added 3/4 of a decent quality dark chocolate bar that was 92% cocoa, put it in a Ziploc bag and smashed it to small pieces.
Thank you for your video on how to make it, maybe add the recipe in the description though 👍

Great Vid Sher. You are very clear when detailing ingredients, quantities and all the whens, hows and how longs. I just put my mixing bowl in the freezer, so I will be ready to start in 15 hours! I almost never use this expensive attachment because of the long freeze time on the bowl. Thanks for the great suggestion that I just store it in the freezer. I usually have a quart of whipping cream in the freezer, so at any time I could be 60-90 minutes away from homemade ice cream.

Been watching videos all day and you're the only one to mention how to clean the bowl. Making ice cream when I was a kid consisted on sitting on top of the churn to hold it down while Daddy turned the handle. Dad's been gone a while but his birthday is coming up so I'm going to make his favorite vanilla (using your recipe) first. Thanks again.

250 ml and 500 ml for 1 and 2 cups (respectively) are just easy to remember, but ARE not the true conversion amounts.
237 ml = 1.00174 cups and 473 ml = 1.99925 cups. So, for these containers, we aren't being ripped off.
HOWEVER, I agree that there are many products that gradually reduce size in order to increase profits.

    • @yvonneyeager7929

@@yvonneyeager7929 But most recipes that North Americans use are in cups. If your recipe calls for two cups of cream and you have a 500 ml container, are you going to reserve the extra 27 mls? or are you going to just dump the whole container because that's "about" two cups?

Some of us have access to dairy. I have 3 does in milk and get 3/4 of a gallon milk every day. My skim milk (what I have left over from extracting the cream) tastes better than store bought whole milk.
It would be nice to know how much sugar to add if we do not use sweetened condensed milk.
I am trying to work on recipe for may daughter that does not use fermented products (dietary issues). Some extracts of vanilla use fermented products, so I am trying to determine if their are vanilla extracts without fermented products. The closest thing I have been able to make is frozen whipped cream from goat milk (still not bad). I am trying hard to give a real ice cream but as she says about the frozen whipped cream, "...if you have not had ice cream in 6 months, frozen whipped cream is heaven!..."
Thanks, love your video and it gives me ideas. 2 more Nubians (Rose and Bridgette) are about to wean their kids and will be coming online as first time milkers. I am training Rose right now on milk stand etiquette! It is an adventure, but what a payoff in great milk.

Instead of sugar I use a natural sugar substitute called Zylitol that I get from a natural foods shop. It is the same consistency as granulated sugar so substitutes well if you need the volume to be the same in a recipe.

You're right! Fat from dairy causes no insulin response. Unlike sugar which spikes your blood sugar and a huge insulin response. If you make homemade ice cream and substitute with Stevia or Erythritol as a sweetener (both will not spike your blood sugar) then you can have your desert guilt free. It's also great to have a high fat desert if you are on a keto diet. It adds to your daily fat requirement. As long as you can tolerate dairy. So the take away on this is don't worry about the fat. Sugar is the culprit !!!! Sugar will KILL YOU!!!!!!!

    • @barbarac8422
      @barbarac8422 4 года назад +1

@@garytoth2122 Except Stevia tastes terrible! People say it tastes like sugar, but it doesn't to me and leaves a nasty aftertaste like artificial sweeteners do. But to each his own. Sugar is not evil incarnate, it just has to be consumed in modest amounts, which most Americans don't discipline themselves enough to do. Hubby is diabetic, and is careful with his sugar consumption, monitors his blood sugar religiously. He eats a small amount of real ice cream *on occasion* and adjusts his insulin intake accordingly. Also, *anything* you eat causes blood sugar to rise, especially starchy foods like potatoes, noodles, rice, corn, many cereals, and breads of any kind. Fruits do the same thing. The key is MODERATION in all things. No one I have ever met, diabetic or not, eats a steady diet of ice cream or any other dessert. You just have to keep your blood sugar monitored and not go overboard.

I made banana nice cream… Peeled four frozen bananas ran through blender with one and 1/2 cups half and half and a cup of frozen peaches. Chilled in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and then ran through the KitchenAid ice cream maker. When it was done I added a half a cup of peach chunks and put it all in the freezer to firm up. It was really good. No added sugar.
So important to have that running before you pour very cold mix in there or it will freeze before it starts turning.

I found a little hard to get all the ice cream out of the pot but did get it. It was funny that while she was washing, the water was still freezing inside. We got that done and put in right back in the freezer. When it came to the milk, we get our milk the old fashion way with the milk man coming to the house. I bought the milk with cream in it. So I figured that would equal half and half. Thank you so much for the simple recipe.

Thank you very much for the recipe. I am making this today. About the containers having less than 500 ml or 250 ml. 1 cup is exactly 236.58 ml so you have there exactly 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk. But if they have switched from 500 ml content of the container to 2 cups they have done so to raise the price without people noticing it. I realize this video is 4 years old and back then they will find ways to quietly raise the prices without people noticing it unlike today where the prices are skyrocketed and nobody cares.

In Britain a lot of Ice Cream makers use to have 1litre tubs but there now 900ml. Other things are being reduced in weight as well so it's happening all over, Good for you to point it out 👍👍👍

About what? The volume of the bowl? It’s smaller because of the cooling fluid and the insulation in it.

@@bl6973 He's refering to the Dairyalnd size containers Crafty Sher Cupcake talked about at the beginning of the video ( around 2:35...). The cream containers used to be 500ml and now they contain 473 ml. The milk containers that used to hold 250ml now contain 237 ml). Customers are being ripped off!
