I fully agree with you as for conventional defense, but all will still be reliant on eachother as for trade, and then there's the little twist: Nukes. Many countries and regions are protected under the US nuclear umbrella which is a form of reliance. Without that many of those countries might feel they need to have their own nukes, and the world would be a lot more dangerous. When I was in the U.S. Army, my oath was, as noted, loyalty to the Constitution. It did include, however, something about following the LAWFUL orders of my superiors. Whoever ends up at the top of the military, one must hope that they will honor that part of the oath.
This has always struck me about the Presidential immunity nonsense. Sure, Trump can order someone to be unalived, it won't be legal, but he'll be immune. However the person who follows the order has also broken the law and is not immune. You gotta persuade peole to do the illegal stuff even if you yourself are immune. Notwithstanding, the president can just pardon people.
I've read about a Posse Act that limits federal use of the military domestically, so does that mean the states have some say in military matters, too? Or is it really only the top who can decide everything? I'm from the Netherlands, and don't understand this much.

That might be true, but still. GDP conversion against dollar is what it is... it says nothing of what you get from a dollar... you can get longer whidt a dollar in Russia than in Italy... Italy can not a afford biggest European military, have space programs, nuclear programs etc... Russia can... in purchasing power Russia is number 4 in the world, thats more then Italy...

IMO - The stupidest thing Germany ever did was to allow that pipeline. Also, if nations want the U.S.to help they need to contribute their fair share,. In addition countries that won't allow their own nuclear defense weapons, and rely on the U.S. are very foolish.
The stupidest thing Germany ever did was not to continue to use Russian energy which was good and cheap. Without that Germany is now the sick man of Europe, her industry decreasing every day
It was the US that persuaded European countries to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and rely on the US deterrent rather than develop their own.

aid to Ukraine doesn't come from military spending. It comes out of the massive stockpiles of ammunition you have because of the spending 20 years ago. The spending now happens no matter what you do with your about-to-be-decommissioned spare parts and ammo.
@@Noise_ninja Perhaps, but the stockpiles have to be replenished with something other than thin air, and that usually takes something other than imaginary dollars. (It takes more borrowed money from the American taxpayer.)
Ukraine is worth saving. However, the US should not be having to manage the bulk (single biggest contributor) of deterring/responding to China AND Russia. Europe should do more in their backyard. Japan and South Korea should do more in theirs. America should help but should not be gifting a free ride for many countries and bankrupting itself the way it has been.

What about America's undertaking to Ukraine in 1994 to come to its aid if it was ever invaded.? This was in return for Ukraine disarming and handing over its massive nuclear arsenal to Russia, At this time in 1994 there were very s good relations between Russia and America following the policies of Gorbachev. Interestingly, Russia was also party to the agreement and undertook to protect Ukraine if it was invaded!!!
I totally disagree, the EU countries are great at delaying action on owning their own defense. The politicians in the EU would like to spend their money on social programs, not defense (let the US do it). Trump made it clear, no ACTION no US support.
Yes - the US is a declining power. This whole out-of-Nato discussion reminds me of the Roman general Stilicho starting to withdraw the Roman legions from the Briitish Iisles in 406-407. Then Emperor Honorious issued a decree in 410 telling the Britons to "look to their owb defences".
It’s not just a question of funding. We (Europe) dont have the stockpiles of arms that the US has. Also, if the US says we can’t use any of its weapons then what do we do - remember too that the gps/guidance system in the British Storm Shadow is American, they could prevent any more military US electronics into Europe.

Stock markets will plummet, oil prices will go stratospheric and everyone will be impacted!
Time for Europe, canada, japan Australia to wake up and end reliance on US.
Australia is a client state. We send billions to the US every year to prop up their arms dealership industry. Doesn't matter who you vote for, the right does it, the left moved so far to the centre they're right lite, and the so called minor parties are 90% fronts for the right wing LNP. (the biggest so called "alternative" party is run by a racist redheaded fishmonger who was in eth LNP until they kicked her out for saying the quiet part too loud. She's voted in lockstep with them while claiming to be an independent party for 20 years in spite of that.)
So reliance can't be ended, overall, but ended or deminished in some ways yes.

I was born in the United States and honorably served in this nation's military. I've never been more disappointed, outraged or heartbroken than I am now. Lack of accountability leads to sociopathic felons becoming presidents.
At least in the US it does, apparently.

The Us has time and time again relied on its European allies to help it in times of conflict. The US can not afford to distance itself from its ewuropean allies and if Trump tries I hope someone gives him some "Sage" advice.,
us doesn t care 1 s
The US just wants European countries to pay for their own defenses. Why is it such an issue for European countries to defend their own countries? It would obviously be better to have multiple countries who could defend themselves, instead of relying on one country to ship weapons, troops, etc to every country in its alliance. U.S isn’t your daddy, and the EU aren’t children. Pay for your defenses.

The US can't afford anything. We are trillions in debt. Time for a re-evaluation on what we spend our money on, like pointless battles in countries that most Americans can't find on the map.
Europe could easily defeat Russia. Britain and France have deterrent, and all of the former republics are well armed. You guys have to fight your own battles.

Nah he won't stop the aid to Ukraine. The American military industrial complex wont allow him to do that. Also alot of the old guard in the house have stocks or receive PAC money from that industry. With $811.6B in military spending it wont stop.
You don't know the MAGA crowd.
@@koiguidenishikigoi4972 Of course because politicians listen to the peasant class
aid to Ukraine doesn't come from military spending.
Funnily the USA is the only NATO country every which has activated article 5 and asked for help from its allies in UK, Germany, France, etc. - you’re welcome American friends! That’s not even meant to be mean or sarcastic from me, I just think it’s good that we help each other :-)

Best thing for Europe is to cut reliance on US technology. It took Europe to stand up to Apple about wasteing chargers.
Slava Ukraini
What about America's undertaking to Ukraine in 1994 to come to its aid if it was ever invaded.? This was in return for Ukraine disarming and handing over its massive nuclear arsenal to Russia, At this time in 1994 there were very s good relations between Russia and America following the policies of Gorbachev. Interestingly, Russia was also party to the agreement and undertook to protect Ukraine if it was invaded!!!
Of course, Europe should be able to take on Russia.

Didn't Trump rack most of that up? Is that what you mean by getting back to your own concerns? lol
you reckon that's a big debt. wait until the con man who bankrupted a casino is done with you.
I totally disagree, the EU countries are great at delaying action on owning their own defense. The politicians in the EU would like to spend their money on social programs, not defense (let the US do it). Trump made it clear, no ACTION no US support.
Imagine thinking that Europe being largely responsible for its own defense is a bad thing.
Long overdue that Europe integrate their militaries and become the superpower its supposed to be.
One positive for the world order is the decreasing power of America
Military and economically
Europe and South East Asia will benefit greatly
Enjoy your new friends China, Russia and North Korea. They only attack people who don't do what they're told.
Ben Hodges is so right.
We (UK & EU) need to start our own electronics & arms industries, and stop relying on US components.
@@elgoruk6923 South Korea and Japan have world best electronic, and both countries need strong military protection to defend themselves with the threats of nearby countries, like North Korea , Russia and China
Not all equipment in Europe is american or rely on american tech. Then i think there is a huge leap between not supporting Europe actively with soldiers and not providing crucial components for weapon systems. It will obviously be much harder alone, but the economical powerhouse that is Europe can certainly rely on it's own strength if need be. But no denying we been slacking in this regards for decades now, so we have much to do.
BAE and its subsidiaries supply most software to British equipment and some US equipment. British F-35s and Apaches use BAE electronics, storm shadow software can easily be swapped from US to UK as we're development partners so know exactly what the software programming is. Trump would have to block us from 5 eyes (which MI5/6 are the 2nd biggest intel provider) and declare all US weaponry software classified meaning unsellable outside the US unless there's proprietary software that can interface with buyer technology. US weapons firms wont allow Trump to destroy their business
Europe should be thanking us rn.
