I can't think of any video suggestions off the top of my head but I really do love that little time period that gave us SMT3, DDS 1 and 2, and Raidou 1 and 2. I wish they would give us more games like those as well some new stuff. I am really tired of spin off games especially Persona based ones.
You shouldn't be too hard on ATLUS -- they can only perform up to two tasks per day: one in the afternoon and maybe one in the evening. When you take that into consideration, they get a phenomenal amount of work done.
Imagine their potential in developing a new game if they unlocked the third semester P.S: Your comment is fucking gold, even more than Persona 4 on vita
Persona 25 was the biggest nothing burger I have ever seen. It was really awkward, it was like showing up to a birthday party with no gift. Like not even a small one.
I wish I could agree with this, but I actually think two other notable game series had worse anniversary celebrations. The Legend of Zelda 35th and Tales of 25th were both really poor celebrations.
Sadly this is kind of what most anniversaries for Japanese franchises are like. I remember all the anniversaries Dragon Ball had in the 2000s and they were all a lot of fanfare leading up to nothing but hyped up rereleases of the manga and new home media box sets. I'm not saying you shouldn't want them to do better, but the sad reality is that they very rarely actually release new content that's actually worth it and usually it never amounts to much besides merch aimed at superfans with deep wallets.
Also, a nice little spit in the face was complementary with the ports for anyone on a PS5. It will take a little explanation so bear with me. Persona 5 is largely responsible for the popularity increase to the Persona/SMT games. Regardless of weather or not you like it, all signs point to it being the case. Now the hype generated by the twitter types, who never actually bought or played the game, is considerable. But the actual people who made it worthwhile for the games to be ported are playstation players. Many of them bought P5 and later P5R and the DLC’s en masse which led to said popularity increase the is probably the main factor in the games being ported. In this case, the sales proved that the hype was not just hype, they could make money by releasing the other games. So with this in mind, how do you think Atlus paid back the people who actually bought the game in the first place and made it popular. You know, the people who may have dropped over $200 if they bought base P5 and Royale and the DLC(which was already getting ridiculous). Well, they told them to fork over another $70 dollars to play the PS5 version of P5R. What does this expensive upgrade give you? Well if you didn’t buy the DLC for Royal(DLC for base P5 came packaged with Royal), you get that. The only other thing you get is 60 FPS in 4K. Thats it. To give you idea of how monumentally scummy of a practice this is, EA the Devil of the gaming industry does not do this. They gave out free upgrades for the PS4 version of Jedi:Fallen Order which upgrades it to have a 4K 60 FPS mode. I know a lot of people wont care, but Atlus asking its most faithful customers to fork over another $70 for something which is given as a courtesy is extremely fucking insulting. Between that, the steam price, and the day one DLC’s they slap on everything, it clear they don’t give a shit about their customers and especially their playstation customers. TL:DR-Atlus is asking for playstation owners who may have paid for the game 2 over to pay for it once again in order to get an “upgrade” which every other gaming studio gives out for free.
This event felt like when going to a carnival which was supposed to have all the cool rides like rollercoasters and bumper cars but when you get there all they have is the spinning teacups and you're expected to be happy about it.
Nah I would say its not the spinning teacups. Its just the Zipper that comes by every year with the 3-4 baskets that don't seem to be lubed and a ferris wheel. It's mostly carnie games with shit prizes and odd choices for food, like deep fried pb&j or $10 cup noodles that are only priced that high because its carnie food.
I feel like this entire thing would've gone over better if it wasn't unnecessarily dragged out over an entire year. If it was just one livestream with all these announcements, I think people would've been way more receptive to it. Instead they made a pretty obvious P6 teaser that went nowhere, gave Western fans table scraps, and expected everyone to keep caring for a whole year. Honestly a textbook example of how to never treat an anniversary
Facts, I genuinely had no idea the 25th anniversary was a year long and have missed most of the announcements. I thought it was mainly meant to show off the release of 3-5 on all the consoles, but there's merch, the persona 6 trailer, all went under the radar for me and I haven't seen it recommended to me anywhere🤷🏿♂️.
They said they wanted to, but can’t release info now in its current state. Basically 2020-2021 didn’t count as development years for most Japanese companies. Tech and video game progress stalled for the most part. Anything released was stuff that was already previously worked on for the most part, like SMT V.
@@DengueBurgerto add up, most 3rd party developers are taking multiplatform approach in order to stay relevant. That might lengthen development time for a while due to working on different hardware. Kind of agree on the timing, since the notorious mistakes that most developers had done is revealing their projects way too early, then years of waiting.
@@noelchristie7669 They didn't actually tease Persona 6. They didn't even say there was another game in development. All they said was to look out for future information on the series, and people assumed that was a teaser for P6. Everything else is just rumors.
@@petry491 Look, to be fair, the "roots" of the Persona that took off is Persona 3, I love classic persona but to claim that the modern franchise is super tied to it or based on it is just disingenuous. They actively went out of their way to overhaul and try new things with the franchise on 3 and that exact move is what lead to the franchise's success (and not even just the massive mainstream success of 5, the sales for Persona 3 were a huge slam dunk compared to anything before it with Persona in the name.) Persona 1 and 2 are classics that everyone should try and they're amazing games. They're not the roots of modern Persona in like any way. They're way more tied to the roots of mainline, with the similar gameplay and systems and direct ties to SMT if through Tamaki.
If I had to guess on that I'd imagine there was an internal delay of the game and they possibly have expectations for the "announcement to release" timeframe. Persona 5 got delayed once or twice and that was on top of it already being about halfway into the PS4's lifespan for a PS3 game and already 7 to 8 years after Persona 4 released. So they might be trying to announce it closer to a concrete release date.
Sounds like Persona 6 is very soul hackers 2 which was awful... Persona 6 has to kind of be the most perfect thing considering how insanely high the bar is set since persona 5.
If you are a longtime Persona fan whose been with the franchise for many years, like myself, this anniversary had absolutely nothing in terms of substantial new Persona content. Nothing.
i got into persona back in 2015 ever since 2018 I refuse to associate with it. The fanbase and the treatment of the series by atlus is a complete joke.
@@benderman1157 damn if you think atlus treats persona like crap you have no idea how bad smt fans are treated lmao At least persona games get translated
How is Atlus mistreating Persona by finally bringing it to all consoles like we wanted? What SMT games don't get translations these days? Just cause we didn't get new anniversary content doesn't mean those aren't massive leaps and a bit disingenuous. They did exactly what the vocal persona fan base was asking for and we've not missed out on a major mainline release since like NINE, which is kinda ass anyways. Anyone who says either Persona OR Mainline is getting treated terribly by Atlus def wasn't around back in the day its obvious. Like we didn't even have a non-Americanized version of Persona 1 yet back then. We got a new Soul Hackers, Mainline, and Persona on all platforms in the last year. Yall eating fine lmao
@@Nocturne989 But the rereleases weren't good besides P4G. P3P is worse than the original release with only having some quality of life improvements which makes me wonder why they didn't just rerelease P3FES instead so some could play The Answer but to fix it they add that you could do direct commands so peoples biggest issue with the game would be gone.
Honestly sucks persona 1 and 2 get shafted so much .despite being the ones who walked so p3-5 could run, atlus neglets games that alot of people wouldn't mind buying.

@@BaofuTheCanonicalPersonaHater Sorry but Persona 2 is nothing compared to 3 and 5 and even 4. 3 and 5 are both in the TOP 5 greatest games ever made with Persona 3 being peak Persona and the best JRPG ever made, period. Persona 4 is less of a masterpiece but still a masterpiece. Persona 2 is an 8 out of 10 game at best. Good but nowhere near being a masterpiece. And the level of writing of P3, 4 and 5 is a galaxy away in Persona 1 and 2. Anyone who says Persona 1 and 2 are better are just trying to be edgy and alternative, pretending to be "hardcore" gamers when they're not.

LMAO yeah right, i literally never wanna play P3-5 again after P2 because they're all simply worse with characters who can't develop outside of their social links. just say you only care about popular things and pretty graphics and go ❤️
I feel like it’s worth pointing out that when P 25 happened Square Enix had FF7’s 25 anniversary livestream and KH’s 20 Anniversary event, and both events had news on games and merch for eastern and western fans. I know it’s not a 1 to 1 comparison given company size differences, but it might worth at least saying that having a year long event, where most of the big stuff won’t be leaving Japan, and having unclear marketing was what set the whole event up for failure.
I feel like people forget that Atlus is a game company, so even a vague mention of a future game would have been enough to make it not feel so empty of a celebration. This even was too much for them and all they wanted was merch sales
If you want to see an anniversary done right, check out Kirby’s 30th anniversary which happened around the same time as Persona’s. Kirby fans got the first 3D game in the mainline series, a Fall Guys style spinoff, and a concert, just to name a few.
I didn't expect anything to be announced and given most of their other anniversaries have largely just been merch related, thats pretty much what happened. Sure I would've liked Persona's 1 and 2 to have had more of a spotlight but again I've come to expect that. Probably the best thing to happen was the PSP version of Eternal Punishment's fan translation getting finished and released.
@@Tony4You Though that isn't really saying much. If anything it is telling of just how starved they have been that something this basic was considered good.
@@DragonKingX78 From what I understand Atlus in the past have said they largely don't meddle much with Persona's 1 and 2 out of respect for the original writer of the games as he no longer works at Atlus. On one hand I can understand but on the other that shouldn't really stop them from at least giving the games a newer port to PC. New merch with Tatsuya and Maya is cool but yeah it does largely feel like they overlook them deliberately most of the time.
@@Tony4You that's incredibly sad that atlus big anniversary event was so bad the fans had to reward themselves with a fan translation instead of atlus doing it
I remember when they first announced the year long announcements. I very quickly got bored of checking for updates and just let the news hit me organically. I was totally nonplussed the entire year, only the announcement of 3 and 5 finally being ported made me excited - but the excitement was accompanied by the nagging realization "oh okay i guess we're never getting 1 and 2."
@@Artemi22 All protagonists have always been Fool Arcana. Igor serves no one at all. The concept of time travel is a forgotten P3 plot point and nothing deeper. Hearing you genuinely annoyed about this made me remember how I forgot how bad this event was. A whole year just to get what was expected to be the bare minimum.
Persona 25th is like a present wich sounds like it contains some good stuff, only for it to have something that you would never want or need in your whole life
@@MagillanicaLouM Not true, even for me whose played P5R already it gets all those crazies on Twitter to shut up and that's an anniversary win in my book
I feel like they wanted to show P6, this celebration was like ATLUS screaming they would show P6, and they used the monthly release to keep the hype and have enough time to get it ready to show . However seems like they couldn't make it in time. P6 wouldn't have made the whole celebration good, but it would be enough for the fans. My speculation though
@@krimsonkatt And that's the WORST part not even Koromaru socks or idk... Socks w/ the Persona logo, no, FKING TEDDIE, yes, i hate Teddie as much as i hate Morgana.
I think their biggest problem is they said they had "7 big announcements" to tell us throughout the year. And when you're a game company people will expect at least a few of those announcements to be games. The acrylic stands showing previous mainline games and protagonists with "secret" acrylics also did not help. With the last minute announcement that there'd be no trailers or game information shown at the concert either, which has always announced stuff in the past. I'm of the theory that they did want to show something, probably a tease for Persona 6, but then decided that they just weren't ready and needed more time before showing us anything. Which is fine! I love people taking their time to makes games! But the lack of any news on any new titles they're working on, especially with how much they hyped up their announcements made the anniversary feel like false advertising and that's why people got angry. I hope for future anniversaries instead of saying "There's 7 big mystery announcements," It'd be safer for them to say "there's lots of merch and events we'll announce throughout the year," because that's all the anniversary ended up being. I am really happy about the ports at least though, I'm excited to try out the female route of P3 on my Switch this January 😄 I am disappointed that we still have no clue about what Persona 6 looks like or what spin-offs or remakes Atlus is planning on making next, when their advertising made it seem like they'd at least share news on upcoming games. But I've gotten over it and will just continue waiting to find out what game we'll get next ^^
The good thing about P3P is that you aren't restricted to AI party members anymore and the female route option is an interesting idea. P3P has a tonne of problems which are especially noticeable on the female route but it's still worth experiencing so long as you've already played one of the PS2 versions first.
There’s no way they didn’t plan to announce Persona 6 this year. There were so many small things that seemed like they were hinting at a P6 reveal. Example: They explicitly avoid using green anywhere in the promo art wherever possible, except for some small splotches on Joker’s clothes standing next to a green paint bucket. There were some other hints as well, like green being missing from different places where it should be (like rainbow color schemes) or “blank” slots in art. Seems like the game just couldn’t quite get finished enough to be revealed yet and it threw them off.
I've said this in many of these P25th critique videos: As someone living in Japan this anniversary met my expectations, I got to go to the Super Live and Tokorozawa "museum" but I feel for all the people overseas.
I think they clearly planned to announce Persona 6 as the finale, but it just must not have been at a state where they could or wanted to show it off yet.
I just hope they started working on p6 years ago. The VERY long wait for p5 originally on ps3 was one of the biggest drags ever. Literal years of meh development updates. Kinda like prime 4 and pikmin 4
The Persona 2 Duology are some of my favorite games of all time and I'll forever be sad that Atlus has decided they aren't worth supporting at all anymore.
It has nothing to do with them not wanting to support them, they literally had a survey this year asking what games people wanted and Persona 3 Remake won the survey with Persona 2 a very close second in the end. The last time before they had a survey before that was to ask people if they wanted Persona 5 on Switch, PC, Xbox, etc...and look how that turned out. The old ports of P1 and P2 are the most recent and also the only existent versions of those games and it has clearly become too complicated for Atlus to port those games to newer consoles(and to do it properly). Which is why they're asking if people want remakes instead.
@@tonyknighton4019 There's no "new guard", they have the same vision, which is why they made Persona multiplatform, brought back SMT by not only releasing SMT 5 but also remastering Nocturne and are clearly interested in remaking P1 and P2 if people actually want them.
I doubt it. It will probably be the same price as P4G ($25 USD) if not cheaper since P4G is a Vita game and P3P is an original PSP game. The only reason why the PC version of P5 is so expensive ($70 USD) is because it's a port of the PS5 version which just released, not the PS4 version from 2019. If you get the Switch version it's only $50 USD on the eShop (mid range) and $60 for the physical steel book limited release. My guess is that the ports of P3P will be $20 USD, with $30 USD being the absolute maximum. There's no way Atlus is going to charge $70 USD for a PSP game when P4G, a Vita game was only $25 USD. FYI everything in CAD is $10 more than in USD so AAA games on PS4, XBSX, and PC are $80 CAD there instead of $70 USD here. And remember, the max price only went up from $60 USD to $70 USD because EA was greedy and wanted to up the price. EA Sports were the first games announced for next gen, FYI. Same thing happened with the PS3/XB360 era when the max price was raised from $50 USD to $60 USD. (Wii games remained $50 USD max) Handheld games were always 2/3rds of the price of console games so GBA games were $20, DS games were $30, and 3DS games were $40.
@@krimsonkatt im gladi wasnt going insane realizing prices of triple A games became 20 bucks higher after i started getting out of the 3ds/wii u era and into ps5/pc
The craziest thing to me is that they never released anything new (rereleases/ remasters specifically) over Persona’s 1 and 2. Like, it’s the 25th anniversary of Persona 1. And you’re just gonna leave it on the PSP. I’m confident in saying that a good number of the Persona community would play those first 3 games if they were made more accessible. But Atlus hates money I guess.
Well you certainly can have your own expectations but do not get assblasted when the things they already laid out for the event do not meet your expectations. Given all things happened in P-Studio after P5 Royal, it is kinda easy to guess that any new games they are currently working on got shafted and delayed for a bit.
Persona 2 (the duology) is my all-time favorite Persona game and it’s so infuriating and heartbreaking that it’s never going to get any love from Atlus. 😔 All I want is my HD remake with updated graphics and gameplay and full voice acting.
This is expected from atlus. If it was up to them they would never sell us anything and only rely on Japanese sales, but since there's money to be made they begrudgingly give us the minimum.
As a big fan of JRPGs I'd honestly call it mid. I mean it was mostly merch and Japanese exclusive stuff which is expected at this point. Atleast unlike with Square Enix we actually got something in the US
Honestly the worst part about this event for me was the fact that the majority of the cool merch was Japan only. The West site only ever got a FEW of the merch options from the Japanese site, which is a right shame, because I would kill to have some of those plushies.
I remember that there was a official 3rd party seller that were handling US shipments for some of the JP exclusive items, it's how I got my hands on the picture frame and mascot keychains
And a even more frustrating thing for me was the fact that ShopAtlus didn't even ship their merch to my country, so people like me that wanned something no anything from this aniversary as persona fans coldn't even buy a pin because they don't ship their stuff to the part of Brasil im from, so we literally just got the P5R port for R$:300, witch is absurd seeing that P4G was R$:65. I got out of this with my hands empty, what a terrible "comemoration".
I'm sorry this was such a disappointment, but I'm happy we got as much as we did. Atlus West is notoriously incompetent, and my standards were lower than the women who date me. P1 and 2 are so far off from the Persona series of today, I can understand why the company decided not to bring them out. It's still disappointing, but at least I understand them. My question is why the hell Persona Q and Q2 were completely forgotten? While not my favorite games, they deserved better. They could have easily gotten a Switch or mobile release! Instead, we're going to lose access to them when the 3DS marketplace closes down in a few months! Thanks, Atlus. One bright spot, however, is that Revelations: Persona did get released on the PlayStation Mini a few years ago. If you really want to play it from your couch on a modern TV, that is an option. While I would make a contract to serve Mara for a re-release or remake of Persona 2 in its complete and translated form, I don't see it happening any time soon. If you ever want to travel to Texas, hit me up.
The problem with Persona Q and Q2 is that they extensively rely on mapping, which requires a touchscreen to draw the map and a separate screen to view the map while exploring the dungeon. As such, it's probably not feasible to put them, or the Etrian Odyssey series, on any system besides the DS or 3DS.
@@artificialaceattorney6822 The Switch and smart phones both have touch screens, and even games that are dependent on two screens, such as The Wonderful 101 on Wii U, have been successfully ported to Switch.
@@artificialaceattorney6822 Eh, I'm not running out to sell my Wii U version. My point is that it can be done. In this day and age where we get fewer and fewer triple-A titles worth buying and everything is a remake, remaster, or re-release, bringing out games people didn't have access to when they came out is one big advantage that can't be overlooked. According to sales numbers, the Tactics Ogre remake had better sales in Japan this week than the new God of War. I played the original when it came out, but I'm old and was a huge dork. It was only available on the PlayStation, and I think North America only got about 11 copies localized. Now that it's widely available and legal, it's going to sell. Bringing out the Persona Q games was possible. They just ignored them, and it will soon be almost impossible to experience them. Shame. Damn shame.
The one thing that makes me really happy about this mess of an anniversary is that we got to see so many new arts of Persona 1 MC. I love his design and it's cool to see new arts of him
It's sad when you think about the possibility of P6 being announced only when P5 turns 10 years of existence is very high... And with nothing of great relevance in between for this series...
I'll admit, Persona 5 is the only game I have a sort of cult following to so buying the game for pc for $60 US is fine by me but I can agree that they didn't really please everyone. If they decided to bring out more games than apel to their cult following they currently have, then I think they would have more success.
I was really excited about the 25th anniversary and was patiently awaiting each announcement..... then I completely forgot it was happening and I'm glad I did because I would've been so disappointed. THEY DIDN'T EVEN RELEASE FES, THEY RELEASED PORTABLE, WHY?????
I enjoyed SMTV but I was expecting an announcement for persona 1 & 2 with 2 having both eternal punishment and innocent sin ported to current consoles and PC
If I had to guess, based on cut announcements and statements made to fans, they likely had something bigger like a P6 announcement planned, but were forced to cut it due to a delay. Then the ports had to take the place of the new game announcement It also makes sense that they would want to be overly cautious given 2 new games getting poor critical receptions
In all seriousness, it was pure agony that Atlus launched this anniversary for over a year with mainly just merchandise and a concert. My leading theory is that there were more announcements, but they were axed since the company wanted to keep certain stuff under the hood. Still, this whole event should've just been a few months rather than a year.
There’s a minor chance we may get some stuff late, if there were 3 slots deleted it could mean what they had planned wasn’t up to their standards, yes it’s sad that we won’t get them for the anniversary, but there’s still a bit of chance
Honestly I get why it's disappointing but finally being able to play Persona 5 Royal is really nice for someone like me who never owned a PS4/PS5 but had a good PC and a Switch.
I was gonna get the vinyl records until I saw the price lmao. If it was under $280 usd i would have. I wish P3 got a definitive version combining portable and FES
The thing that confuses me most is no mention whatsoever of Persona 6. I assume that they don't have game footage ready yet, which is fine, but they couldn't have even thrown together a teaser like the P5 chairs?
The last time Persona 1 ever saw any form of rerelease was on the PlayStation Classic. A lot of us were hoping we'd get some sorta collection where you get to play both PS1 and PSP versions of P1, P2 IS, and P2 EP, and since the PSC crashed and burned hard, the chances of P1 getting another go is out the window.
here's how i have come to understand it at this point. The series as a whole is great and even though the anniversary wasn't what we all hoped for it's the matter of i've come to see persona 1+2 seperate from 3-5 since 3-5 changed up the formula to the point they're not even the same anymore. I believe THAT'S why we don't see anything done on 1+2 anymore. It's not that they're bad it's that they're basically treated somewhat seperately now because 3 is when the series really blew up and got popular. It's them capitalizing on said popularity that's brought the modern series to where we are now. I for one am glad i'll finally get ot have 3 and 4 in the same place as 5 now.
When I went to the persona concert this October in Japan I started to read so much into it like how there was a green colour in the glow sticks and they played p1 and p2 music without announcing it but I guess I got my hoped up
We didn't even get any news on the gacha game, the bare minimum that I was expecting. Crazy that we got more for mainline for this anniversary than anything Persona related, legitimately felt like this was more of a celebration for people who have never played the games instead of being one for the dedicated fans.
I was excited about the the start of the Persona 25th cause I was hoping that every game would be available on all platforms during the year, the main games, the rhythm games and the fighting games. Plus, I would be happy for a new Persona or crossover Persona events, but yeah, same sentiments.
This was just a disappointing anniversary. Even disregarding Persona games or any related merchandise, Atlus showing off 7 announcements is a recipe for disaster. But now including games, P4AU and P3P, P4G, P5R ports is really cool but really? Having a remaster of P4AU would've been great if it weren't handled horribly. The Persona games being ported to home consoles and PC are still really cool but not the first two games. Which is fine because most people will probably have more interest for the newer games, but again, Atlus showing us the protagonist being showed and not receiving any game is such a tease. And people being hyped for a new game isn't a stretch. A release date is still kinda out there, but at least the announcement of the game in development would've been lovely. Maybe if Atlus didn't present 7 announcements, people wouldn't be disappointed. Even though this was the 25th Anniversary of a big game franchise
As an Atlus nut, I remember getting highly excited to see what the anniversary was going to give us. *and then I completely forgot because what we got was nothing*
Atlus: Ah yes, let's release P5R again! Fire up the money printer! Oh, and a lot of people like P3P! Do that too! Staff: Wait a minute, what about FES? People love that, and it'd be doable to combine the two. Atlus: But I don't want to. Besides, P3P will be easy Staff: What about Persona 1 and 2? We used them in art a lot. Shouldn't we...I dunno, put the PSP ports for those on steam too? We could even translate Eternal Punishment? Atlus: What? Staff: The first two games? Megami Ibunkou Persona, Innocent Sin, and Eternal Punishment? Atlus: The Eternal Punishment is the strain on my pocketbook. Send them P4 Arena Ultimax. It'll shut them up. Staff: ...Sure.
the amount of times I've seen "you cant please [insert fandom here], youre lucky you got anything" is staggering like fuck, sorry for wanting more than the bare minimum
There's a weird amount of people that think being disappointed at a company means the persona is an entitled hater. Some people just just be disappointed in something and expect better lol
I despised the 25th anniversary, hearing 3-5 would be on switch was the best part to me, but it was also melancholic. Atlas really has left 1 and 2 in the dust… I really want them to get a remake, or at the very least be brought to modern consoles! But at least I got 400 dollars worth of records! Vinyl collector right here so that was cool :)
Thanks for bringing up the pricing too. I live in Canada also, and the pricing SUCKS. As well as sites offering "Free USA shipping" but you end up paying "international shipping."
A lot of Japanese companies (Atlus and SEGA are especially bad for this) are VERY tone deaf and out of touch with what fans want. They THINK they always know best when it clearly isn't the case. If they listened more to fans, they would be flourishing... but nah. Even just a localised official port of Eternal Punishment would have the fanbase in massive hype and throwing out money left right and center.
Not really. Atlus regularly let their customers fill survey forms on their games popularity and which game they want to get ported, that is how we got the Nocturne, P3P, P4G and P5R (lazy) remaster releases. Hashino's Persona trilogy got the biggest clout and cult following which overshadowed EP and IS port demands. They are clearly prioritizing the ones that will give them the most profit. I myself would want they to remaster the Raidou games and finally make the third game.
@@ZeroKitsune Yes but you can use vpn or proxy to participate in answering the surveys since they are anonymous friendly. Some non JPs did that for the recent surveys.
I feel like people should be happy with what WAS announced. We could've gotten a pile of nothing, not ports, not vinyls, not anything and they could've left the 25th anniversary alone, but it truly is a good thing they gave out some stuff. I get that some people don't like that P3P is being ported and not FES (or atleast I think,) but they could've lost the code for FES to even port it. Also, I'm sure they're working on remaster of other games in the SMT franchise, and new installments/ips, so I also don't understand why people were upset with not Persona 6
i legit forgot about the whole thing until i saw this video in my recommended... now i'm sorta recalling being hyped at the start but it was all so forgettable :(
I don't know, this kinda feels like going to a coffee shop in a new town called "Coffee and more", and being upset that they had tea but not juice or shakes. Sure, the original pitch to you was vague enough, but nothing ever promised there was to be what you were looking for, including when the people who grew up in the town with the coffee shop knows well what they sell there.
This also just might be me talking as a Danganronpa fan who recently went through their 10th year anniversary, where most of what was announced were just collaborations exclusive to Japan. It took till after the anniversary season ended that we got a new game announced, and that was just an upgraded version of a side game from V3. Persona 6 is still coming, I just think more time is needed until then.
fr the only company i know that cares about the english audience is sega and capcom. Nintendo, namco, and level5 dont care at all. which is why the latter fell.
For me the problem was how much it was dragged out I pretty much got what I wanted (the ports) but it's obvious they didn't have enough for the amount of time they did the anniversary
If you took the lackluster Persona 25th anniversary on its own, you could write if off as, "Eh, not Atlus' best, but its not the end of the world." But coming off the heels of Soul Hackers 2, SMT V and a few other things for me personally, all of these things paint a picture of Atlus and its not in the best light for me. I feel like I'm falling down the same rabbit hole I did with Capcom and a few other companies where they continually disappointed me and let me down, but I still kept supporting what they do hoping things turn around. I really hope this isn't the case with Atlus, but as much as I've found myself complaining about them and my game experiences with their stuff lately, I feel like I'm already in Wonderland, and Alice keeps asking me to die for her. Granted, SMT Alice kinda really does sum up how I think Atlus is right now.
@@Tony4You Really hoping this isn't the fall from grace character arc for Atlus like we've seen with Capcom, Konami, and a few others. Though at least Capcom has turned things around and there's hints of Konami trying to do the same. But Atlus hasn't been doing any of the things that made me fall in love with what they do. I still miss all the niche rpg's they would publish.
If anything this anniversary taught me that popular gaming franchises will never give fans something that's actually tangible once their products hit the 25 or 30 year mark.
The Persona 25th aniversary was the biggest disaster what Atlus committed after the Teddie socks, these are part of the Persona 25th aniversary but, every time I see it makes me want to gouge out my eyes.
Sounds like they might’ve had more planned but had to shelf it, which is a shame. That being said, finally getting to play Royal after Strikers on switch being my first and until now my only experience with the series, was an absolute delight and Royal now being available everywhere is pretty great. Can see how that’s not impressive for people that have already been able to play it for years on PlayStation already.
I did forget in my other post to mention this so I'll bring it up here. Persona 3 was when it really started to separate itself from the smt series, so I'm wondering if they are holding off on that because the first two were more aligned with how the smt series are vs how the new persona games are. Brining up persona 1 and 2 to a crowd which really got popular from 4 and up (primarily 5), and seeing how the gameplay was might make newer people concerned about it going a different direction than it obviously would. When I first started persona (which was the third one, but it was 2016, long story), I never even heard of shin megami tensei for a few months. I dove more into the game than an average player ever will so I did learn about the original two and if it does get a port to pc I will try them out of course, but others might not see it that way. They should have figured this out by now of course, but it could make more sense to announce it first on the smt side of things.
I really hate to be a downer about this, but with the 25th going not the greatest, and the broken release of p4au, and overall how soul hackers is doing, makes me worry that atlus might be going down some kind of bad path. I really hope thats not the case.
Considering the director of Persona 5 left the development team responsible for the franchise I can't help but be worried that the next game may not live up to the expectations set by Persona 5.
Yeah, I felt disappointed too, especially since P5 brought in so many new fans in the West. It’s also kinda interesting comparing it to FF7’s 25th - which, for all the things that go on with SQEX, we at least get most games in the West. We got a lot for the FF7 25th, but even now, the mobile game (that really didn’t interest me) is already shuttering. So in one vein, I guess I do appreciate Atlus not overcommitting. But some promo art or even a text teaser for P6 (like we got with the chairs for P5) would have been nice. I was glad about the ports though - some friends I’m trying to get into Persona are diehard Nintendo people, so I’m glad P5R is on a platform they can play it on. I definitely agree about wishing for more P1/P2 love. Even when we finally got IS on PSP, they didn’t localize EP, so we’ve never had the duology together in one consistent format. (I know it’s a PSOne classic). I wonder if it’s merely a sales issue or if there’s some porting issues with those games? Anyway, I’m grateful for the ports, but I agree, it was a bit disappointing.
I had one expectation for the 25th anniversary. P3FES being playable to modern consumers. Instead we got P3P which I find to be an inferior port making P3 practically unplayable.
i fell like they wanted to release a new game but couldn't due to time constraints or maybe some internal problems, i do think p6 was gonna be announced but is gonna be released a bit into the future (maybe 2-4 years later (2024-2026))

🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Imagine their potential in developing a new game if they unlocked the third semester
P.S: Your comment is fucking gold, even more than Persona 4 on vita
Lol
If only they focused on work weakpoints so they could get extra turns...
They don't believe in easy money, they like the challenge of screwing fans over first.
Persona 25 was the biggest nothing burger I have ever seen. It was really awkward, it was like showing up to a birthday party with no gift. Like not even a small one.
And they ate the cake
I wish I could agree with this, but I actually think two other notable game series had worse anniversary celebrations. The Legend of Zelda 35th and Tales of 25th were both really poor celebrations.
Atlus really had their hand out to collect money for nothing this time. Really disappointing to see it so transparent for money

Very true, and there wasn't even that much love for THOSE games really lol
And the funny thing is that it is the aniversary of persona 1
It feels like they were going to announce persona 6, but changed their mind half way through.

I am really happy about the ports at least though, I'm excited to try out the female route of P3 on my Switch this January 😄

Whoever the new Guard is that runs Atlus surely is l incompetent. We new the old Guard back or at least people with a clear vision.

Atlus charging like $45+ for P3 sounds so true it hurts

Persona 2 (the duology) is my all-time favorite Persona game and it’s so infuriating and heartbreaking that it’s never going to get any love from Atlus. 😔 All I want is my HD remake with updated graphics and gameplay and full voice acting.
By the end of at all I don't even know what the "secret" acrylic stands we're supposed to be for.
Still can’t believe we didn’t get a Persona 6 announcement at the concert. Also persona 1 and 2 duology got no love
Atleast unlike with Square Enix we actually got something in the US
Lesson learned I guess, 25th anniversary seems like a big deal for an IP, but I guess it's not anything special
@@Tony4You it's sad but for most companies it's really not
Honestly the worst part about this event for me was the fact that the majority of the cool merch was Japan only. The West site only ever got a FEW of the merch options from the Japanese site, which is a right shame, because I would kill to have some of those plushies.
You can probably buy them from JP online retailers. Sure, the shipping costs will be quite a bit, and there might be a price markup, but... uh...
I remember that there was a official 3rd party seller that were handling US shipments for some of the JP exclusive items, it's how I got my hands on the picture frame and mascot keychains
Being a bit "late" to talk about this allows you to have a good look at things and to analyze what happened
Atlus should follow how RGG studios handled the future of the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series.
Some people really got shafted yeah
SNES and PSX Megaten games are an experience that needs to be played to believe. The fact they won't port over those games is a real shame.
Agreed, people just need to be able to play them without hassle. Here's hoping someday they get some love
@@100Servings Interesting. I haven't played The Wonderful 101, so I didn't know how well it ported to The Switch.
Shame. Damn shame.
My brother in christ if youre playing persona no women are dating you in the first place☠️☠️☠️
"Yoh, what if we make a bunch of japan only events and make some merch to the rest of the world?"
-a dude on atlus-
I hope that guy got a talking to lol
The one thing that makes me really happy about this mess of an anniversary is that we got to see so many new arts of Persona 1 MC. I love his design and it's cool to see new arts of him
Yeah at the very least the official art was really cool
It's sad when you think about the possibility of P6 being announced only when P5 turns 10 years of existence is very high... And with nothing of great relevance in between for this series...
I'll admit, Persona 5 is the only game I have a sort of cult following to so buying the game for pc for $60 US is fine by me but I can agree that they didn't really please everyone. If they decided to bring out more games than apel to their cult following they currently have, then I think they would have more success.
As a Texan persona fan, understandable. We can meet at bucces and conversate on how Mara is the true smt mascot over brisket sandwiches another time.
P3F with mods on PCSX2 emulator is the definitive Persona 3 experience.
I genuinely love FES so it's sad portable will be the only one most people will have played
@@Tony4You portable has femc so it's better
I was really excited about the 25th anniversary and was patiently awaiting each announcement..... then I completely forgot it was happening and I'm glad I did because I would've been so disappointed. THEY DIDN'T EVEN RELEASE FES, THEY RELEASED PORTABLE, WHY?????
Portable is better than FES
I enjoyed SMTV but I was expecting an announcement for persona 1 & 2 with 2 having both eternal punishment and innocent sin ported to current consoles and PC
If I had to guess, based on cut announcements and statements made to fans, they likely had something bigger like a P6 announcement planned, but were forced to cut it due to a delay. Then the ports had to take the place of the new game announcement
It also makes sense that they would want to be overly cautious given 2 new games getting poor critical receptions
The quote "I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed" never resonated with me until this anniversary
I guess the only thread of hope left for us to get a P1-P2 ports is if Sega pressures Atlus to port them
Great video honestly, some of your videos make me actually want to make persona content. keep it up homie
Glad I could inspire creativity, thanks
In all seriousness, it was pure agony that Atlus launched this anniversary for over a year with mainly just merchandise and a concert. My leading theory is that there were more announcements, but they were axed since the company wanted to keep certain stuff under the hood.
Still, this whole event should've just been a few months rather than a year.
There’s a minor chance we may get some stuff late, if there were 3 slots deleted it could mean what they had planned wasn’t up to their standards, yes it’s sad that we won’t get them for the anniversary, but there’s still a bit of chance
I hope so.
New to persona and I am currently playing P5R and loving it so much. It would be really unfortunate to see this IP die out.
@@datpotatoes4005 I don’t think you gotta worry about that friend
Honestly I get why it's disappointing but finally being able to play Persona 5 Royal is really nice for someone like me who never owned a PS4/PS5 but had a good PC and a Switch.
Yeah, I was happy that other people finally get to experience Royal because they didn't have a PS4 or wanted to play it on PC/Switch.
It wasn't perfect, but at least we got something. I tried not to come across as a total hater
@@Tony4You Absolutely and it's alright xD
The vinyl set is expensive butttt not crazy when u consider the individual price of each vinyl. The turntable is overpriced tho
It was nice of them to admit Persona 1 and 2 actually existed with that art, too bad they didn't bother to release the games to modern systems.
I was gonna get the vinyl records until I saw the price lmao. If it was under $280 usd i would have. I wish P3 got a definitive version combining portable and FES
I love Persona 2 so much. This all taught me never to hope again.
they picked all the bad social link options and now have to do generic bonding time in order to progress their confidants
It's wild that a year of announcements just ends with some rereleases. How did it not end with at least a P6 announcement?
When I went to the persona concert this October in Japan I started to read so much into it like how there was a green colour in the glow sticks and they played p1 and p2 music without announcing it but I guess I got my hoped up
Imagine expecting game announcements from a video game company video game anniversary
Well we got kh4 in 20th
i ordered a persona 25th poster last christmas. it still hasnt arrived. i contacted them a couple times and they havent even replied.
This whole anniversary could have been an email.
We didn't even get any news on the gacha game, the bare minimum that I was expecting. Crazy that we got more for mainline for this anniversary than anything Persona related, legitimately felt like this was more of a celebration for people who have never played the games instead of being one for the dedicated fans.
Ofc there's no news on that gacha, because it had no association with Atlus at all.
What about the SMT 30th? Any thoughts?
My expectations are very low to say the least, but I still have hope they want to pick up the slack for Persona
Sometimes I feel like Atlus doesn't care about there IPs as much as they should lol
Besides, P3P will be easy
Staff: What about Persona 1 and 2? We used them in art a lot. Shouldn't we...I dunno, put the PSP ports for those on steam too? We could even translate Eternal Punishment?
Atlus: What?
Staff: The first two games? Megami Ibunkou Persona, Innocent Sin, and Eternal Punishment?
Atlus: The Eternal Punishment is the strain on my pocketbook. Send them P4 Arena Ultimax. It'll shut them up.
Staff: ...Sure.
i remember the AX shiz- the whole booth thing just to buy merch was by appointment :(
the amount of times I've seen "you cant please [insert fandom here], youre lucky you got anything" is staggering
like fuck, sorry for wanting more than the bare minimum
There's a weird amount of people that think being disappointed at a company means the persona is an entitled hater. Some people just just be disappointed in something and expect better lol
I despised the 25th anniversary, hearing 3-5 would be on switch was the best part to me, but it was also melancholic. Atlas really has left 1 and 2 in the dust… I really want them to get a remake, or at the very least be brought to modern consoles! But at least I got 400 dollars worth of records! Vinyl collector right here so that was cool :)
The Persona 25th anniversary was just "Fuck you in particular, here's some hand-me-downs!"
@@shinyanakagawa8241 Aren't their surveys and stuff Japan only?
@@ZeroKitsune Yes but you can use vpn or proxy to participate in answering the surveys since they are anonymous friendly. Some non JPs did that for the recent surveys.
I feel like people should be happy with what WAS announced. We could've gotten a pile of nothing, not ports, not vinyls, not anything and they could've left the 25th anniversary alone, but it truly is a good thing they gave out some stuff. I get that some people don't like that P3P is being ported and not FES (or atleast I think,) but they could've lost the code for FES to even port it. Also, I'm sure they're working on remaster of other games in the SMT franchise, and new installments/ips, so I also don't understand why people were upset with not Persona 6
i legit forgot about the whole thing until i saw this video in my recommended... now i'm sorta recalling being hyped at the start but it was all so forgettable :(
This is a really common feeling lol. People forgot about it every couple months when it was supposed to be a whole year of hype. What a shame
Imagine thinking a Japanese game studio would care about consumers
I think they do care…about the Japanese consumers. Atlus’s attitudes toward overseas has always seemed “just be glad you’re getting anything at all”.
fr the only company i know that cares about the english audience is sega and capcom.
Yeah in the context of how the company has been with recent releases, this is a very bad precedent to set. I'm really getting worried about them
@@Tony4You Really hoping this isn't the fall from grace character arc for Atlus like we've seen with Capcom, Konami, and a few others.
If they're ever bringing back Persona 1, at least give us the option to switch to the PS1 OST. ;-;
The most I got out of this was like...wallpapers I used for a bit
What do you mean it was a disaster? We got Teddie socks!
If you don't wear socks you're sus
TRUE!
i fell like they wanted to release a new game but couldn't due to time constraints or maybe some internal problems, i do think p6 was gonna be announced but is gonna be released a bit into the future (maybe 2-4 years later (2024-2026))
"I don't recommend you use Twitter at all"
Genuinely good advice.
