A traditional powerplant with more power would probably make for a far higher top speed of this car, but the hybrid delivers a smoother experience and most cars will never be driven to max speed anyways
But f1 didn't have an hybrid power train and so called aerofoils 😑😑😑😑😑 which I would like to see in a Pagani not in McLaren. McLarens are inspired by the wind and British legacy flushing through their designs

it can't be on purpose, it's disgusting. Even the cheappest car you buy new has aligned panels. But since the doors are electricaly driven, maybe it didn't close properly. Or, because it's the concept, they didn't make the latch locking the door in place when it's closed.
So the Koenigsegg Regera (the most similar car out there, really) is faster (0-300 kmh in 10.9), better looking in my opinion, and at $1.9 million base price, cheaper. Honestly, I feel that the only reason to buy this over the Regera is nostalgia or just liking the McLaren name. If you wanted outright speed, you'd buy a Regera or Chiron.

Aye, I found it vaguely irksome the way Shmee kept talking about how mandatory having no rear view mirrors/ how smooth the design is. since the Bugatti Veyron, Bugatti Chiron, Koenigsegg Agera RS and other cars of this type are completely different from the Speedtail. boxier and covered in panel-gaps, yet all can easily do 260-290 Mph.* this video feels more like a paid promotion then an honest "review". *And unlike the Speedtail the Agera RS, Veyron and Chiron are all street-legal anywhere on earth, while the speedtale is illegal in the US and Canada

It's a little odd in terms of the proportions, but I almost view it as a graceful piece of art. Almost like a sporty futuristic yacht, compared to the senna's alien spacecraft like design. Very stretched out, but very beautiful imo.
The Speedtail makes the Bugatti Veyron all that more impressive. 13 years ago, Bugatti managed to go even faster than this spaceship of a car can with the same amount of power. Incredible.
Aye, agreed about the Veyron. but McLaren haven't tested it yet, the 250 Mph is theoretical only. chances are it is much faster and they are being conservative about it's top speed so they don't disappoint customers.
Yes but they needed 4 turbos and 16 cylinders to get there, this does it with literally half the engine. Thats where the 13 years of progress comes from. Efficiency.

A bit of input Shmee, for low light indoor shoot like this you need better camera, mic, and editing. It's a bit of disservice for a car as significant as this one.

Skip Bayless Aaaa No? The F1 is only 627 hp and until today, it went 386 km/h, with only that hp. Yes this new Speedtail has lower displacement BUT, mclaren has the technology and proven in other models that it could be squeezed all of its power so it runs like how 570 hp, 675 hp, 900 hp should be. This Speedtail should be doing more than just an increase in 8 mph. It should be doing more than the Agera RS now. And to be honest, it shouldn’t be as the same level CCXR or Veyron 8-12 years ago with this kind of numbers.
First impressions i dont really like it. When i look it from the front, i see 570, the side is alittle 720 & the rear quarter i see a mix of Regera & C-X75.

Function over form, I love it. The design is hideous but just like the Senna its function (the senna being track times and the Speedtail being top speed) is way more important that it’s appearance
everything will be ok the Veyron was about $1 million more expensive than the speedtail, didn’t go much faster (a base Veyron had a top speed of 253 mph, the speedtail has a top speed of about 250 mph.), and the Veyron looked like an elongated Beetle. Not to mention that Bugatti lost money on each Veyron sold, whereas this is probably make McLaren a bunch of money. So I’d pick the Speedtail before the Volkswagen
This might be heresy, but it's extraordinarily ugly. As if two concepts were joined in the middle. Covered wheels at one end, multi-spoke at the other, it looks like a concept car from a 1st-year design student. It may well be aerodynamically efficient and very clever, but in my view, it's an aesthetic mess.
The covered front wheels appear to be nothing more then a mesh cap you can remove. at 6:50 it looks like it is just a normal wheel like the rear wheel, with the mesh cap over it.
The thing is that it ISN'T efficient though. The Veyron didn't look like this, had less power, and was faster. So clearly they're doing something wrong.
Where is it that you're driving 250 MPH again? How about faster? Does the top speed really matter when you can't get there? How you get there is more impressive.

I saw the leaks yesterday all over Instagram and I had hope that they were fakes. The car looks hideous, looks like a Tesla Model 3 and Koenigsegg Regera had a baby. I guess the photos aren't fake smh, what is you doing McLaren? I learned to like the Senna, but this is a no for me.
I suspect you might learn to like this too but only time will tell. The thing with McLaren is that they take form following function so literally that it means the cars are truly bizarre initially until you start to understand what it's all for and why they did it that way.

Agreed. The "tail" in the speedtail looks odd, but I guess the design is there for high speed low drag and stability. It's definitely not designed as a track car, but as a luxury hybrid hypercar GT.

Because koeningseggs are based on top speed and have different engines that do not fit in a Mclaren. Also koeningseggs do not have naturally aspired engines.

At first I hated the design with a passion, but now going back 3 months later I love it and have no idea what happened, but the wheel caps must’ve instantly turned me off but now I’m digging it.
Who says that this will handle much better than a regera? It has a low amount of drag and is made for beating the McLaren F1’s speed record. Not a track car. And i was talking about the looks not performance

Honeslty In pictures it looks like a deformed regera (they screwed up the piant for the presentation like with the Senna in that orange). BUT in video form it looks MEGA. Great video Tim!!!!!

A more vivid colour does help but still it's too much the "car of the future" from Fallout like you said. Cars like the P1 have changed what we perceive as proper looking these days . The design is outdated by now just like Mercedes' quad round headlights.
The 250 MPH top speed is most likely theoretical or electronically limited for legal reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if it were faster than that. At that kind of speed, you're relying nearly 100% on aerodynamic forces to keep you pointed in the right direction, so you're basically flying an aircraft at that point. I'm not sure I have the guts to take a car up to 250 MPH. Edit: ...and I'm a pilot. I'm not saying I'm scared to go that fast... I'm saying I'm scared to go that fast without flight controls.
Shouldn't this car have a much higher top speed? I mean with 1050HP and such a HUGE emphasis on aerodynamics wouldn't you think it would be faster than the Chiron and Agera? Dude, mclaren looks way better than brands such as Bugatti ,Koenigsegg and Lamborghini. Best designs are between Mclaren and Ferrari .Bugatti looks like a bug. Koenigsegg looks like an outdated space ship. Mclarens are sleek and designed for purpose. But in the end it's all preference. All Im saying don't be biased. Because if mclaren is ugly most hyper cars is.

As a hard fan of McLaren I am dissapointed with the look of this car. The P1, 720s and even the Senna were beautiful imo in their own ways. This car clearly had no focus on aesthetics and only on performance.
Same top speed Bugatti achieved in 2005 with the Veyron. While Speedtails top speed is impressive, in the era of the Veyron, Chiron and various Koenigseggs, it's not exactly ground breaking or even close to class leading. I'm sure it's 106 owners will be very very happy with their investment though.
Definitely not feeling the styling. The mismatched wheels, the ridiculous looking long tail and the black line across the top of the windshield looking like a dumb and dumber haircut. Before I had seen this I was really looking forward to the release but this is so bad it almost seems like a joke. Maybe it'll grow on me. Those wheels tho.
the wheels are definitely odd, but I think this a car you need to see in person to appreciate, especially the length. I was looking into buying a riviera boattail, and when I finally saw one in person it was so much more impressive and striking than in photos.
I love the elegance of the design and the way Mclaren has integrated everything into the design such as the ventilation. The lack of panel gaps really give the car a sense of how streamlined it is. Really a design focused on the future. Although I do think this is an awesome vehicle, I don’t think people that are buying this car will drive it a lot or maybe not at all. Which really is a shame of such a beautiful creation.

Few panel gaps, but the ones that do exist are pretty bad. I'm sure they'll fix that before production though

all that drag reduction for only 8 mph more than the F1, is pretty bad when the Chiron is so much faster.
They had to compensate for the added weight of the hybrid power train.
McLaren did not care for overall top speed look it up...

Yes this new Speedtail has lower displacement BUT, mclaren has the technology and proven in other models that it could be squeezed all of its power so it runs like how 570 hp, 675 hp, 900 hp should be. This Speedtail should be doing more than just an increase in 8 mph. It should be doing more than the Agera RS now. And to be honest, it shouldn’t be as the same level CCXR or Veyron 8-12 years ago with this kind of numbers.

First impressions i dont really like it. When i look it from the front, i see 570, the side is alittle 720 & the rear quarter i see a mix of Regera & C-X75.

everything will be ok the Veyron was about $1 million more expensive than the speedtail, didn’t go much faster (a base Veyron had a top speed of 253 mph, the speedtail has a top speed of about 250 mph.), and the Veyron looked like an elongated Beetle. Not to mention that Bugatti lost money on each Veyron sold, whereas this is probably make McLaren a bunch of money. So I’d pick the Speedtail before the Volkswagen

This might be heresy, but it's extraordinarily ugly. As if two concepts were joined in the middle. Covered wheels at one end, multi-spoke at the other, it looks like a concept car from a 1st-year design student. It may well be aerodynamically efficient and very clever, but in my view, it's an aesthetic mess.
The covered front wheels appear to be nothing more then a mesh cap you can remove. at 6:50 it looks like it is just a normal wheel like the rear wheel, with the mesh cap over it.
If you don't know what a word means [heresy] don't use it. But I do agree with you thinking it looks ugly though.

The thing is that it ISN'T efficient though. The Veyron didn't look like this, had less power, and was faster. So clearly they're doing something wrong.

I saw the leaks yesterday all over Instagram and I had hope that they were fakes. The car looks hideous, looks like a Tesla Model 3 and Koenigsegg Regera had a baby. I guess the photos aren't fake smh, what is you doing McLaren? I learned to like the Senna, but this is a no for me.
I suspect you might learn to like this too but only time will tell. The thing with McLaren is that they take form following function so literally that it means the cars are truly bizarre initially until you start to understand what it's all for and why they did it that way.

Because koeningseggs are based on top speed and have different engines that do not fit in a Mclaren. Also koeningseggs do not have naturally aspired engines.

A more vivid colour does help but still it's too much the "car of the future" from Fallout like you said. Cars like the P1 have changed what we perceive as proper looking these days . The design is outdated by now just like Mercedes' quad round headlights.

The 250 MPH top speed is most likely theoretical or electronically limited for legal reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if it were faster than that. At that kind of speed, you're relying nearly 100% on aerodynamic forces to keep you pointed in the right direction, so you're basically flying an aircraft at that point. I'm not sure I have the guts to take a car up to 250 MPH.
Edit: ...and I'm a pilot. I'm not saying I'm scared to go that fast... I'm saying I'm scared to go that fast without flight controls.
Shouldn't this car have a much higher top speed? I mean with 1050HP and such a HUGE emphasis on aerodynamics wouldn't you think it would be faster than the Chiron and Agera? Almost seems as a failed attempt for the top speed record to me.

Dude, mclaren looks way better than brands such as Bugatti ,Koenigsegg and Lamborghini. Best designs are between Mclaren and Ferrari .Bugatti looks like a bug. Koenigsegg looks like an outdated space ship. Mclarens are sleek and designed for purpose. But in the end it's all preference. All Im saying don't be biased. Because if mclaren is ugly most hyper cars is.
Agreed. I don't think this design will age well (I think the front end is badly proportioned and generic). It also doesn't look much like a McLaren and a bit like some previous GM mid-engined concepts.
As a hard fan of McLaren I am dissapointed with the look of this car. The P1, 720s and even the Senna were beautiful imo in their own ways. This car clearly had no focus on aesthetics and only on performance.

Same top speed Bugatti achieved in 2005 with the Veyron. While Speedtails top speed is impressive, in the era of the Veyron, Chiron and various Koenigseggs, it's not exactly ground breaking or even close to class leading. I'm sure it's 106 owners will be very very happy with their investment though.

Definitely not feeling the styling. The mismatched wheels, the ridiculous looking long tail and the black line across the top of the windshield looking like a dumb and dumber haircut. Before I had seen this I was really looking forward to the release but this is so bad it almost seems like a joke. Maybe it'll grow on me. Those wheels tho.
the wheels are definitely odd, but I think this a car you need to see in person to appreciate, especially the length. I was looking into buying a riviera boattail, and when I finally saw one in person it was so much more impressive and striking than in photos.

I love the elegance of the design and the way Mclaren has integrated everything into the design such as the ventilation.
The lack of panel gaps really give the car a sense of how streamlined it is.
Really a design focused on the future.
Although I do think this is an awesome vehicle, I don’t think people that are buying this car will drive it a lot or maybe not at all.
