I am having so much fun with this new dlc, I think outside of holy Fury, this may be the best deal see that Crusader Kings has ever gotten. My Rodrigo El Cid campeador alone has just been a blast. I think honestly that's the best part about this dlc, all the historical characters that they've added, and all the content that all of those characters get. I started playing El cid fully expecting that the full amount of content I would get would be just his unique trait, but he has multiple unique decisions, unique Quest lines, a unique artifact... I got to play with him for 40 years just wandering until the pope called The Crusade for jerusalem, many wars later and now he's the Emperor of outremer and brought about the fall of the Seljuk Empire. I think you can really see the detail and craftsmanship that was put into the DLC. It bodes very well for the direction the game is going.
Yeah I'm liking it quite a bit as well. Though that might just be due to the novelty of landless play, I can't say how fun it'll be after 3-4 campaigns.
9:10 imo the best approach to the roleplaying aspect of ck3 which I also try to adopt Follow the character traits but dont be bound by it. Our real lives are defined by those moments where we, ugh, have to do that thing that goes against our established personality/ideals because we have a responsability, duty, etc A shy king that regardless has a diligent attitude to his rulership will hold court, even if it stresses him out. This is even more realistic and narratively appealing because it creates tension, conflict and overall real characters that through the stress system ingame can develop vices and coping mechanisms, some better than others, and a few downright funny and crazy like a Christian going "fuck it, I'm only following the old testament now" and adopting Judaism, a real stress event option!
Yeah I think that's the best way to do it; more realistic and entertaining. I only rule out making a certain decision if multiple traits go against it.
So i had already mulled the idea in my head to do an adventurers play. Seeing this pushed me to go ahead and start one. Im a evil schemer with a higlander twist. Im playing as a landless until my 1st 100 years pass. After wich ill start going for land and go from highlander to wh40k god emporer.
I think I'm gonna buy this game. Been watching CK3 videos off & on for the past 6 months from various channels. How do you finish the game? When you conquer all the land, or get conquer?
Well if you lose all your land with this expansion, you can become an wandering character, so that no longer ends the game. If you don't have any members of your dynasty left you'll lose though. As for winning, this is a game where you set your own goals, so there isn't really any win condition. If you were to conquer the entire map, which would take a while to do and would be difficult to keep together, then I suppose there wouldn't be much left to do. There is also an end date, so once you reach that the game ends. Thus if there is a goal, it's to get your dynasty to last to the end of the game.
Love the new campaign, what happens when you die? Do you have heirs? Can you choose them, or is there some sort of succession, and if so is it impacted by your culture or religion?
Similarly to a landed character, your child will inherit the camp if die. However, there are two key differences. First, you can select which child inherits the camp. And second, only an adult can inherit. So if you don't have any adult children and there's no one else in your dynasty in the camp, then you lose the game. As if you don't have an adult member of your dynasty available, then the follower with the highest prowess will inherit instead.
Lol, it's nice being able to provide input as the series is happening, but sucks having to wait for the next episode. I'm more of a binge watcher myself as well :)
Its great you are doing another CK3 roleplay series! Though I'm not liking what I've seen of landless gameplay. Seems like more pointless boring events and nothing else. Mercenary work is cool for a little while.
There is a joseph tarchaneiotescharacter that spawns in 1066. 5 star general. What do you think about a pseudo Belisarius walktrough? Reconquring land to give to your emperor
Gregor Clegane kept useful, skilled men around, until they irritated him lol. I think the conclusion to the doctor's story in a few episodes is quite fitting though :D
Happy to see another rp series. Unsure how I feel about the DLC right now, maybe it will just take some getting used to. Kind of expected some more events in these contract jobs you are doing though?
Yeah again it seems like a CK3 DLC is launching with far too few events, resulting in seeing the same ones all the time. And there's unfortunately not much to the contracts. I was hoping to see more events overall with the change the scheme system and the agents. The administrative government seems really cool though, need to play around with it a bit more. And the novelty of landless play is quite entertaining IMO, though after 3-4 campaigns I assume it'll get boring.
@@PraetorianHiJynx I agree, the changes they made to the government aspect of the game was fantastic. But the landless character thing I’m just not sure how I really feel about it or if it’s what I was expecting but there’s definitely some cool stuff in there, I like that you can be a mercenary company. I’ll continue to give it a shot though and see if it grows on me, I guess part of it that throws me off is that it’s just such a different game with the landless stuff.
Nitpick, but Magnús is actually not a very pagan norse name as it comes directly from latin. You only really start to see it in scandinavia after christianization. At least, I'm not aware of any pagan saga character named Magnús. Charlemagne's name however is translated as "Karlamagnús" in norse. Magni however is a pagan norse name and is the name for one of Thor's sons.
Isn't it just the Latinized version of the Old Norse name Magni? I was thinking of the many Scandinavian kings named Magnús when I chose the name, rather than something specifically Norse, but you're correct that it wasn't used in the Latin form until after they converted to Christianity.
@PraetorianHiJynx No, Magnús is actually the norse-ified version of the latin word magnus. The norse kings named Magnús were christians and were probably named so because it meant "great". Magni and magnus may be related words that share the same root. Latin and norse are related languages after all. But Magni means power or strength instead of great.
I know all about him, It's not like I talked about all the landless characters available. I literally only talked about one on that start date, El Cid, because I've stated multiple times on the channel that I wanted to do a campaign with him at some point.
3:35 there was a dev log on steam, where they specifically elaborated on why they decided on not allowing landless adventurers to raid. They actually tried to implement it, but it turned out much more complicated, with many unexpected effects on all aspects of the game, also huge balancing issue, plus, affects incentives for playing landless vs landed. I dont blame the devs at all. After all it's a gaming company and they need to allocate their resources/manpower on projects that will eventually yield a financial return. They cant just experiment on and on and on, on different features that are complex, without actually making it work. This is where the modders come in. I have faith that a modder will eventually implement this.
Yeah I figured it was an issue with balance, as it's already quite easy to earn money as a landless character, and how do they stop you from just setting up your camp nearby, quickly raiding a territory, and then running back to your camp and disbanding your army before an enemy can respond. Unlike with normal invaders, the landless characters could easily raid the interior of your territory with ease. In addition, the devs want you focusing on the contract system as a landless character.
Real exciting to see another proper rp series on here. Im sure it’ll be even better than the one you did for tours and tournaments
I think the Tours and Tournaments one is still my favorite CK3 series I've done on the channel. Hope you enjoy this one too!
magnús finnur hahah 😂
I love the way he takes his time to explain everything ❤
Glad you're liking it :)
Your CK3 playthroughs are always great! I'm definitely looking forward to this. I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks :)
Really cool mode. This playthrough will be fun to watch.
It's certainly quite different from landed play

Hope you enjoy the episode :)
Looks like I am invested in this playthrough now!
The motto could be: Beware of Bear
Should be a fun one, hope you enjoy :)
Finally! I've been eagerly waiting for this role-play series
Hope you enjoy!
New CK3 series! Yay!

Got quite a few episodes to catch up with :)
I think road to power really good when you play with area that have struggles mechanics You should try it on Iran if you have time next time
I'll have to check it out, thanks! I'd also really like to play in Iberia, perhaps as El Cid.
Just started, but I live the concept and your rp game is always stronk
Hope you enjoy the series!
Great Video!

Do I have to reupload the game for mine to actually come on because I got it as a collector set
