My first roads to power story went pretty crazy. I made a family of Zealot mercenaries that would always answer the pope's call to arms. During the first crusade. I manage to score one daughter of the family some land. 10 years later. She had a scandal with her priest which got her kicked out of her territory. She makes her own mercenary band called the the Mace of St. George. Travels across the middle east down into Africa. Quests down there until her son takes over. Who then converts to Islam and takes part in a holy war for them. So now this family is completely split with a blood feud. It's honestly a amazing story.
You create the greatest characters! I'm sure Luther will have a long (hopefully), prosperous life. Man, I love to create as well so I'm sure I'll have to add a character for this playthrough.
Funnily enough, I started a Black Company run of my own, started in India (867), trekked to France, and became a Merc Company of fame, before Cpt. Agnes leading the Company back to North India. She founded the House Noire, who were dukes to Gujarat for 100 years, beofe Jean IV broke free and declared himself King. 400 odd years of History. Good luck Luther! Do Croaker proud!
something funny to know about the duck event is there is an extremely low low chance that you can get killed by the duck if your stats are really low XD
The black company has some historical significance but about 400 years in the future in 1525 in rothenberg who fought for the peasants during the peasants war against the Swabian league
I've checked your channel for the past 3 days hoping for a video. I am happy you delivered! I will be sure to watch this instead of being productive at work, thank you!
For the first time since el Cid you are finally play reguler ck3 i can not wait for this series and the series after this and the next series probably in reguler as well so if that is the case one of the biggest update to ck3 is the Eastern roman empire update so let me just suggest an idea and that is play as a Eastern roman vassal for mea palaiologos but is your chose or maybe I don't know Temujin (genghis khan) just some suggestion
Northern Italy seems like a good bet. Since it is so fractured in this time period, there should be a lot of work for mercenaries. From there you have all the Mediterranean to look for more.
I figure if this guy aspires to regain nobility he would either be keen to stick close to his ancestral lands or he would stick around the areas where the major powers hold their court in an effort to be close to levers of power in case new titles need handing out.
Y’all will definitely get me wrong, but as someone who hasn’t watched, nor planned on watching AGOT, I’m happy to see a series that finally peaked my interest again
I think I find it easier to get attached to the greater world in the AGOT series, because I know so much about all the different houses that they each feel really unique in my mind. Whereas in base game, though I know plenty about the history, 95% of the noble houses are completely unknown to me and so not as easy to get attached to the surrounding world. That said I’m having a ton of fun with this series, perhaps because of the Company characters who help build up the story.
@@StrayKing Makes sense! I’m just in the weird position where I know basically nothing, and despite not having plans to watch AGOT, I also feel like I could get spoiled despite that, and not only that, I get the sneaking suspicion that I simply won’t enjoy it as much if I don’t understand the decision making as much since I don’t know AGOT anyway. Like, I plan on watching it eventually still… but that eventually is feeling more and more like never, despite having the desire to watch it, if only to watch your AGOT playthroughs.
Started playing as a custom adventurer, Thomas Basqueville, a leader of a band of Norman mercenaries in the 1066 start. I had also set the it so Harold Godwinson would win and secure England to spice things up a bit. Went along with William the bastard, we lost (side note, William then became the leader of a mercenary company which was cool), then went roaming around France fighting in several minor wars for some years. A large 8 year long war happened which kind of fizzled out and the queen of France (whom hated me) regained power and threatened to persecute me. Finding myself a bit lost in Flanders, I decide to travel across the channel to England to visit Canterbury. Whilst there I find there was a war brewing between Harold Godwinson's widowed wife (he had drank himself to death) and her son the King who had stripped her of some land in the inheritance. Fighting alongside the widow I had beaten the son's army. After this battle, and on the cusp of the end of the war, the king granted me the earldom of Herutford (previously owned by his mother!) out of desperation to win me over or as a last petty act against his mother. I am currently 2 generations in and have achieved what William 'the bastard' could not do and became a once Norman family living in Saxon land.
hey man! love ur videos, im literally watching a lot of ur mini series in the last 2 days, you give it so much immersion! i just have a question, well, two actually: 1. would you mind sharing the DNA of your characters like Luther? 2. how do you give luther that specific model of sword, that one looks so cool, i've seen it in a couple of my personal campaigns but its just so rare to find it for me... did u gave it to him by command orrr? anyways, love ur videos pal!
I was wondering if you’d ever consider making a tutorial on how you set up these playthroughs, especially the custom followers. Great content as always 🙏🙏
Had over a dozen ideas for the first playthrough but ended up doing none of them and it was the most fun playthrough so far. I started as Dyre the stranger, while waiting for the Magyars to migrate I started a murder scheme on Rurik and raided around. After the migration I subjugated the Pechenegs and married Ingrid after Rurik was dead. Setup a grand tour with a cultural ambassador and promoted culture to hybridize the Pechenegs. Then with my good wife, culture of horse archer varangians abdicated to become the terror of Byzantium aiming for great conquerer. Beyond overpowered and well worth the setup
I think the best story would be an odyssey down to Italy or Byzantium to make some money before returning home to make a push at reconquering his lands.
As a finn im dissapointed that the first finnish charecther in your series is just swede in disquise. Magni Björnson is the least finnish name there could be unless he is from Åland. Been waiting for you to play Roads to power and i cant wait until its compatible with the GoT mod cause that mod fits so well with your roleplay style.
I imagine Marni’s family did come from Sweden, and they’re probably Finnish only really because they ended up moving to the region after being ousted by the Catholics. Best reasoning I got for it.
my roads to power story: so I was cruising around the map wondering where would be a good place to go adventuring and then it hit me, oh, maybe this is finally a way to dig my fingers into the iranian intermezzo in a start that doesn't feel like a total mess? so that's where I went. now, I'm bad at remembering names, but here's how some of the story goes. things start off with a little band of troublemakers and malcontents, just crooks. their leader lives a rough, dirty little life and dies from illness at 40 years old, survived by a 6 year old boy. with such a lot, the boy has little choice at first but to continue his father's dirty work; as he grows older, though, he develops a deep sense of justice, and spends much of his life thereon rejecting his father's ways and fighting to redeem himself. still, across his many travels (and pilgrimages!), he sees the powerful oppress the powerless again and again and that selfsame sense of justice keeps him at odds with them, until the day comes when he manages to carve out a little corner of Mesopotamia free of the tyranny of the likes of the caliph. he dies not long after this, in his 50s, outliving his dreg of a father but not by much. his son and successor was... a different sort still. he often said: "my father was a good man; I am not". still, his ruthless drive turned his father's vision into a great and mighty realm -- one that he spent the final years of his long life defending in a series of epic, down-to-the wire battles against a conqueror who alighted from the west. neither side would win, in the end -- not when a second conquered descended from the north and folded the two war-torn realms like tissue paper. (long story short after this is that the next character murders the conqueror and dismantles his empire, then I Choose Your Destiny the dynasty off into founding several other kingdoms, but ultimately screw things up with sucession for an adventurer and there goes the run. whoops!) (anyway I still didn't manage to get any of the special intermezzo endings because the requirements for those are crazy arbitrary and still really really hard to get before the struggle just swallows itself. was still a pretty fun time though! but also, as fun as that whole "a second conqueror has hit the mesopotamia" situation was, I do recommend that people open up the game rules and turn down how the frequency of how often those guys pop up a little. they were /everywhere/ on that run, not just in my general vicinity. one of them trivialized the iberian struggle so hard that, by the time I'd checked there, he was not only in control of the entire place but also already expanding into corsica and sardinia)
Good bit to survive that plague. Now you are immune to it going forward (though not other plagues, so watch out). If you go to an area where the culture has unique cultural MaA, when you get a hook for providing your services, one of the things you can Exhange the hook for is a MaA unit, and it can be one of the types unique to that culture. It is a way to get cultural MaA units that your culture doesn't have access to. So, if you go to Scandinavia, you could get a Huscarl unit. And then if you go to Greece, you could get a Cataphract. Just be aware, you cannot choose what type of MaA unit you get. You can also exchange a hook with a lord to force them to host a tournament in your honor, that you can compete in. Most o the time, early on, you can exchange it for money if the lord has any (essentially you can make them pay you twice 😁).
nota bene: if you're desperate to do this and don't want to rely on chance, one of the perks in the Scholar lifestyle also gives you the ability to recruit cultural MaA when you're in a county of that culture. it's just a second-tier, too, so you don't have to dig that deep to get it either. (and incidental side note: kurdish cavalry + skutatoi = nobody in southwest asia can stop you)
yay! another base game playthrough! you do my favorite ck3 playthroughs but I have no interest in the game of thrones ones so it's always exciting when you return to base game!
