New Awesome Maps series? That sounds... *_AWESOME!!!_*
I love Gaijin & enjoy playing their FPS game Enlisted. I find it very wholesome that they advertise on the channels I actually watch. More people should play these games, as they are well worth the time.
Can’t wait for the rise of the Polish-Scottish Commonwealth
Union swap for england and poland XD
@@stanislawrutkowski6456 England-Lithuania?
@@kolega_muffin yup, sounds interesting
I think most Scots would prefer this over the United Kingdom 😂
After the death of Poland's John III, the King of Scotland (and England as well) in exile James IV was actually given the opportunity to becoke the King of Poland as well.
So yes, a Polish-Scottish personal union was a possibility, although it would require a Jacobite victory back in Scotland to actually be a De Facto personal union.
Fun fact in one of Tomasik's hotel bars as bartender works one old man , This old man in the past was general of the first polish armour brigade where Tomasik served.
This would deserve its own video
There is a video on the Mark Felton Channel about Polish generals who lived their lives out in Britain
Just a small correction: it was a division (the 1st Polish Armoured Division, precisely) itself consisting of two brigades plus some smaller units.
BTW, the general's name was Stanisław Maczek.
As a Scot, thanks for the cool map Mr.Tomasik
Scotland is not a real country. You are just skirt loving Englishmen.
This was, in fact, an awesome map.
Still is!
Great video!
This map is a perfect example of a quote attributed to Napoleon: "Leave it to the Poles. There's nothing impossible for them.", which he supposedly said after the victory of the polish cavalry in the battle of Somosierra during the Peninsular War.
Yes, or in other versions he is claimed to have said « Il fallait être saoul comme un Polonais pour accomplir cela » which translates as "To accomplish this, one ought to be drunk like a Pole" . This is the origin of the popular French saying "Drunk like a Pole", « Soûl comme un Polonais » which describes someone capable of maintaining a cool head despite adversity (or in this case intoxication). It is the origin of my channel name. Cheers from Kraków! :)
Going into this video, I was thinking that this was going to be about those WWII maps of Britain where city names were transliterated phonetically into Polish so that Polish soldiers could pronounce the cities as close as possible to their actual names.
The second I saw the notification, I knew I'm going to love this video. Great map choice! And you nailed the pronunciation of Jan Tomasik. 😀
While in Edinburgh, you could potentially stumble upon the commemorative bench with a statue of the commanding officer of Jan Tomasik - gen. Stanisław Maczek, who lived in the city after the war. He also worked as a bartender there, until very old age, because he was denied any retirement benefits by both the British government and the communist regime in Poland, which stripped him of citizenship. Thankfully the Dutch eventually learned about his difficult situation and stepped in to help, as the Polish 1st Armoured Division is fondly remembered in the Netherlands, especially in Breda.
Stanisław Maczek also managed to live to 102 and so outlasted the communist regime and was awarded Poland's highest state decoration before he died.
@@ballisticvole Indeed.
@@ballisticvolethat is nice to read
As a Scot, I thank Mr Tomasik profusely as he brought his skill and craftsmanship into our country. Long live the polish Scottish relationship 🏴❤🇵🇱
I didn't know about this map! I find this an excellent way to start the series: a Polish veteran in Scotland making a big map of Scotland for a hotel. Jan Tomasik must have loved his adopted country so much, if he spent all this time making a large map of it.
Thanks for the video! I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode!
Man the Poles really loved it here, Polish 1st and 2nd armoured regiments used to train near where I grew up, Żagań gifted the local town an awesome statue of Wojtek the bear.
GREAT SCOT!
This is heavy.
I'd love to hear you butcher Polish names! You should upload a second version of the video where you *try to* pronounce them.
That'd be funny. Maybe even an extra for channel members or patrons.
Horrible Maps was funny. Awesome Maps is so much better.
6:35 is that a Scotland for ants?
The real Scotland must be at least three times that size!
@@sokjeong-ho7033this is funny cos it’s true 😂🏴
Obviously someone should add another lake at the top with Orkney and Shetland in. Any Scottish Poles with a bunch of spare concrete want a project?
This video was much funner to watch than the last few horrible map videos. It's all this time spent on one map, going into detail about its history and what makes it unique. One of my favorite quotes about anything creative: "Art gets so much better when it's made from a place of appreciation"
I have no idea how its happening but allways when there is history about Scotts and Poles doing something together they get along extremly well in both.
Like you can still see obelisk in Belgium that was placed as sign of Polish-Scott friendship as they fought there together.
Its the think in ficion also, in last part of last book of one polish noblist book trilogy which is (considered Polish National Epic) Polish and Scottish officers Wołodyjowski and Ketling sacrifice themselves together.
I was excited to see this video in my feed - had been looking forward to the new series since you mentioned the idea of doing it!
This was amazing! Please make more of these!
Great episode for this new series
I'd love to see this made into a series of Awesome Maps!
Looking forward to see more Awesome Maps.
Ah incredible new series, TigerStar!
New tigerstar video lets goooo
the details are insane
Great video.
Wow, I'm a Pole who grew-up till lives in Scotland.
I drive past this map every day on my way to and from work. I will need to go and take a look one day.
It would've been incredible if, after giving the disclaimer about your Polish friend saying the Polish names, you had them say 'Poland' in your next sentencd 0:17
I love how the war also added great friendships between people. Scotland and Polan, Canada and the Netherlands... what else comes to mind?
I've never heard of this map before but now I absolutely want to visit it myself.
I really love the idea of an awesome maps series! I don't know if it fits the theme you're looking for, but if you're short on ideas for this, maybe you could talk about that map at Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing where visitors can place a pin wherever in the world they're from
I've been here, basically no one else and in a pretty forest, definitely worth a visit
The polish imprisoned scotland 😔
Never knew this existed thanks for telling me
A good Maps series with Maps of this Kind would be s cool Idea after the end of the Bad Maps one
Bro I am from and have never left Edinburgh, all the government is doing now is building student flats that clash with the building around them. Honestly I hate what Edinburgh has become. But the rest of Scotland is nice though.
Awesome map indeed!
Love how it has a bit of England in it but it has no detail lmao
This remindedcme about the big physical map of Kingdom of Armenia , that is on the wall inside the National Museum of Armenia .
I like the map of Scotland 🏴
i live in the town where this map is! cool to see in a video
very nice
Poor Orkney and Shetland.
Ooh you should do the Guaremala Relief Map next. Which of course pretends that Belize is part of Guatemala, which is interesting too.
Ah, what a relief 😅
The street you walked was the Royal Mile.
Wonderful 👏 🔥 👏 🔥
oo i gotta go here
What if I, being Polish, enjoy hearing English speakers try to pronounce Polish words?
Thank you.
I lived in Stirling Scotland. Wonderful time. I was at the foothills of the dramatic Highlands. Good times
PS Edinburgh is beautiful
The bad thing about Edinburgh is if you aren't on the easy sloped main road, you pretty much have to climb to get to it lol
Neat, but being Scottish, needs more unicorns.
yay, awesome maps I
Will you ever do a history of africa video
I can relate to polish names being hard to pronounce
Please make awesome maps into a new series to replace horrible maps!!!
Tigerstar said that that was the plan.
He is going to
What a coincidence, I was just looking for this a few days ago. Lol
I appreciate seting start of WW2 to 39.09.01 but it's only start of WW2 in Europe. It started earlier in Asia
Yo nice
If you could only imagine my surprise when the guy behind this map turned out to be called exactly the same as my great-grandfather 😮
As a Pole, how we did that?
Polska gurom ❤
scotland mentioned🎉🎉
Love this video! You describe the history of it so passionately it's hard to not get emotionally involved. I wish I had known about this when my wife and I honeymooned in Scotland!
Minor critique though: I know you gotta eat and all, but today's sponsorship felt a little jarring. Like "Here's a story about a soldier forced from his home by destruction and war. Now here's a game glorifying destructive war machines!"
you need to make the map of the war of whatifaltist
❤
Check the black sea pool out in turkey
As a Pole i clicked on the video just to hear you butcher Polish names.
But the video is great anyway.
perhaps the to scale map of the solar system in sweden?
There’s no Jupiter though
@@goldenfiberwheat238 yes there is actually
@@christianhoej1562 oh maybe it was Saturn then
@@goldenfiberwheat238 nope all of them are there even Pluto
@@christianhoej1562 I guess I was misinformed
Wonder, gedonder.

I wouldn't mind another video from map aficionado and butcher of Polish onomastics.
Missing St. Kilda, 0/10
Don’t see what is so polish about it…
Then watch the video.
@@MrGoldfish8 still not polish whatsoever. the hermitage museum is not german just because a german architect built it.
