      I'm pretty sure ponds cold cream is petroleum based. Her poor pores.
      If she used it as an oil cleanse step to remove her makeup, *then* gently washed her face with a cleanser (or even the pears soap), and followed it with a moisturizer... That would probably be better.

      @@sanityisrelative Mineral oil and petroleum based moisturizers are not bad for the skin and doesn't clog pores, that's a myth and the rabbit ear test that stated this was debunked at least a decade ago (but they still bad for the environment, for sure), what destroyed her skin surely was all the scrubbing, it destroys the stratum corneum and leaves the "second layer" of skin exposed and sensitive.
      If i rub my skin as she did i would probably end up on ER for an allergic reaction or friction burn, my skin is really finicky and i already get all red and rash-y just for drying my face with a towel after showering lol

      Hi Jessica! If you liked how good Ponds Cold Cream was at taking off makeup, you can literally just use petroleum jelly or coconut oil to achieve the same effect without the risk of the same allergens as what may be upsetting your face from Ponds. You can also check out the Ponds moisturising cream if you liked the scent, it's the blue lid instead of the green. You rub that in and it absorbs into your skin, moisturising it! I used to love it but my skin began objecting to something in it. I think the fragrance. But also, rubbing hand soap on your face was almost definitely what upset your skin so much. Hand soap is like, nuclear, and faces are very delicate. I loved this video and hope you're doing well x

      @nany____ 4 года назад +40

      If your skin looks and feels good without 500 steps skincare the absolutely best thing you can do is keep it that way!
      People jump on the trends bandwagon and forget that not everyone need all that stuff. if i just wash my face with soap and water it gets dehydrated and crusty and extremely oily, but also if use moisturizer my face gets horrible breakouts and sometimes full blown allergic reactions, so i'm one of the people that NEED a skincare routine 😒

    • @liv1639
      @liv1639 4 года назад +28

      Skincare routines are fun if you want to address certain specific issues like hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores etc but all the fancy steps aren't necessary. Especially if you have dry/sensitive skin. Wash your face when you feel you need to with a gentle cleaner (without sls ideally so it's not stripping) follow up with a moisturiser that's not scented and has lots of humectants, sometimes from cerave for example and in the day, add an spf. That's all you need.

    • @steinistein8611
      @steinistein8611 4 года назад +5

      Totally agree.
      All I do to my skin is wash it with water in the morning and evening, if it feels a little dry I apply a little jojoba oil. If it's a little flaky I gently exfoliate after showering with a very soft towel and that's it.
      Never looked better.

      Acne for most people is usually caused by what you eat/drink, rather than avoided by what you put on your face. Hi! I also have a very similar skin type. The little spots are comedogenic breakouts from the cold cream. The soap is definitely drying, and I would check your products for lanolin if you have a wool allergy (but you probably know about that bit). Staying far, far away from fragrance is a great idea, and cold cream always has fragrance. Your skin tone did look more even initially in the routine, before the bad caught up with the good, but I definitely recommend against harsh rubbing. Nothing that stings your skin is worth trying more than once. Perhaps instead of cold cream, you might try a noncomedogenic oil like sweet almond or grapeseed. I find any foaming cleanser causes dermatitis for me, so I use cleansing oils and products specifically for sensitive skin. Starting with the gentlest product you can find may produce more success in the future. On the other hand, if genetics has given you a blessing (which it clearly has), there's no point trying to fix what's not broken!

    I love this. I am a vintage loving fanatic. I get told that my skincare routine is quite long. Cold cream is my go to makeup remover, because you don’t have to scrub your face hard like you have to do with wipes. It’s like a little massage for your face. I don’t recommend doing the washcloth method often lol. It’s really rough on your face haha. btw I love your videos. They bring me joy and make my really not good days bearable:)

    I think that you’ve got naturally hydrated skin, so adding more hydration to your skin will result in breakouts, and vigorously rubbing soap into your face every day, twice a day will dry out your skin, so your skin will be super confused, so it’ll cause utter disaster on your face. This skincare routine may work for someone out there, but I doubt it’ll work for yours. This skincare routine is not all inclusive, and so it’s not going to help everyone.

    I also often get asked for my “skin care routine”. Which is thus:
    When I’m in the shower, I gently scrub my skin with an exfoliating glove (very gently!), with only warm water. That’s it.
    If I do get any dry skin in the winter, I put some moisturiser on- just some cheap stuff I picked up at the chemist. That’s it.
    I think it’s because I’m maintaining my natural oils- not stripping them off with any sort of cleanser. I’m still removing any dirt or dry or dead skin with exfoliating, but I’m not removing any oils.
    That’s my theory, at least. And it works for me. I get many compliments on my skin, and even though I’m 32, I do still occasionally get carded (even though legal age is 18, they say they have to ask anyone who looks 25 or under- and while I’m pretty sure I definitely don’t look 18, I probably do still look like I’m in my early to mid 20s).

    The key I've found with skincare is consistency. If I change a product or skip it for a few days I wind up with issues. I also find that being gentle is far better than being rough like they thought then (wish I'd have learned those tips in my teenage years!). Ponds cold cream is actually incredible though. It gets off everything like waterproof mascara and those all-day lipsticks. I wash with a normal cleanser after or use a toner (like a normal one or Witch Hazel if I'm feeling old-school) and then a moisturiser at night and an SPF in the morning. A toner is just if you have oily skin like me and don't want too much extra oil on your skin, esp at night.

Gently wipe away, wash the flannel with soap to clean it up again and just have another rinse off. Add moisturiser if you're feeling dry. I'm lucky not to have eczema, but I feel like the soap and scrub would be pretty harsh!!

    Ok, i am re-living my own past experience through your video, I did the exact same thing a while ago when I started going into skincare. And guess what? I also developed dry patches and several breakouts at the same time. This is what I learned: the dry patches were caused because of all the rubbing, it doesn't matter if it's with a cloth or a tissue, to rub your face with anything that strongly is a bad idea, please don't do that. And the breakouts were caused by the cold cream, it's very heavy for the skin and can cause clogged pores, but it is very good at removing makeup. So what I did and actually worked fine for me was to switch the order, I removed my make-up with the cold cream massaging it gently, skipped the tissues and removed the cream with water, then I washed my face with the soap to remove whatever was left so it wouldn't clog my pores, again skipped the towel for removal, just splashed water. Then my normal mosturizer and was good to go. Eventually my skincare evolved and I no longer do that routine anymore but it did a lot of a difference compared to the first attempt.

    I only use sweet almond oil on my face. It’s hydrating, but surprisingly my skin is never oily 🤷‍♀️. I use it to remove makeup and as a nighttime moisturizer. I’m 46 and chronically ill as well, so the simplicity of it is fabulous! I also do a scrub once a week or so using an all natural scrub that my friend made. I have terribly sensitive skin, but these two items never irritate my skin! Fox and the Forest is her one woman business. I highly recommended! @Clementina Yael Severina M. Clementina Yael Severina M. It depends on the soap, on the oils, on your skin. Just making blanket statements like "don't wash your face!" "Soap is bad" etc, aren't really helpful because everyone's skin is so different. But really, honestly, a gentle soap made for the face can be just as, if not more effective than expensive cleansers. I don't like the implication that people really need to invest in specific products or routines when the basic act of washing your face can do so much for you. Like it doesn't really NEED to be any fancier or more complicated than that
