Zak6916 some patients with this problem manage to avoid the surgery with the braces only, but his problem its clearly more pronunced, so the surgery is necessary (i'm dentist) And Jair, just be positive, and patient... it will be painful and complicated but you will love the result my best wishes
I had this done in November of 2016 and let me tell you the recovery process is going to hell and back. You're gonna go through a whirl of emotion and pain and at points you're gonna hate all the orthodontists and your surgeon for talking you into getting it done. But as soon as your swelling starts to go down and your new face takes shape you will be the happiest you've ever been. I cant even describe to you the feeling of the first time you bite into pizza, a sandwich, an onion ring, a mozzarella stick etc and you dont pull all the shit out. It is so worth it. Just remember to stay positive and make sure you have a good blender haha. I hope everything goes well!!

@JairWoo I have had this surgery! Honestly, the most painful part for me was when they took the catheter out... Ouch! A few tips on recovering: make sure you keep a cold compress on swollen areas to minimize the swelling, you're not gonna be able to eat really so try to think of good liquid foods you might like (for me, egg drop soup was the best), you're gonna lose some weight (it's normal), you're gonna feel like a burden on the people helping to take care of you (at least I did) so just focus on recovery and have gratitude for them. Trust and listen to your doctors, ask as many questions as you need to, and maybe practice meditating while you're bed-ridden have nothing else to do? haha You will be fine man! Love and Respect!
currently in my 5th month of post op of double jaw surgery and everything is fine now, been living like how I used to live before surgery. I had the same problem with you. The hardest part of recovery is during the first two weeks, where you will be mentally exhausted and hungry all the time. After that, you will be fine and trust me this surgery is worth it ! Hey Jair! My brother had this exact surgery about 3 years ago... it is a pretty serious on indeed with watching him go through the recovery time. It does take a long time to heal correctly.... not rushing it is the best way to go for the best result possible. Eating only soft foods is what my brother did for probably 3 months! I'm getting mine in the summer. I honestly can't wait. I've become a meme amongst my friends and their friends. I'm the guy who "can't breathe" (sleep apnea) or "needs a new jaw". it's all a good laugh though I think it's funny. there's no malicious intent behind them.

Spent five years in invisalign, two years in retainers before it was decided I needed yet another year of actual braces. I just got them off about nine months ago. Best wishes with your surgery and the rest of your ortho treatment! I'll be watching and thinking good thoughts for you! Not much longer until you can enjoy those sandwiches and burritos again :)

I'm gonna end up doing the same thing, just got my braces like almost 3 months ago and for me talking is the worst, i just feel like i can't. Your so right about everyone else's videos being such huge help. At first i was so sad because i felt like i couldn't do it but I've seen so many people do it and no one has regretted it and they are so happy that im really calm about it now. Hey Jair! Wish you the best on the surgery. I had jaw surgery before because I had an overbite. The surgery for me took 8 hours and I had to have a blood transfusion because I lost too much blood during the surgery. The recovery process sucks because you'll be on a liquid diet for 1-2 months before you can eat anything solid. It really hurts a lot afterwards so pain killers will help and your face will be really swollen for awhile. Wish you the best! Stay strong! You got support from us!

I ran into a wall in gym class in 7th grade broke my teeth. Went to the dentist and was told it's cosmetic and wouldn't need to do anything besides fixing the crack. Fast forward to now and surprise surprise it was not just cosmetic and now need three implants. I know I need to do it before anything gets worse but the healing time is crazy. Just wish I could hide from the world for like 6 months and come back GORGEOUS lol. Good luck in your surgery. I'm sure you'll look great as always 😄

I got this surgery last year around July. I decided to just go with lower jaw surgery instead of double since my upper jaw only needed to move 1cm- which the doctor recommended wasn't worth it or wouldn't show a noticeable difference. The recovery process was painful as hell. I had terrible headaches and my teeth were wired shut. I was on a liquid diet for two weeks. I tried to drink smoothies but the seeds got stuck in between my teeth and it prevented me from drinking even clear liquids. So stay away from smoothies until after your teeth are unwired. Be forewarned that you will lose any feeling on your chin/mouth Area for sometime. - sometimes this can be permanent. I still have very little feeling in my chin area. Also, I was so swollen and didn't want anyone to see me. I'm excited to see your videos though lol.

I had double jaw surgery and genioplasty to correct my overbite! I am almost 7 weeks post-op and doing great!!! Honestly so worth it. But be warned the first week is the WORST. I felt like I was dying haha (actually). But it gets better with each week. I had to be on a pure liquid diet for 4 and a half weeks and once I was able to start having soft foods, my recovery has felt like it's going by quick :) Good luck!!!

hello! i guess having any kind of procedure done is stressful! I also have an abnormal bite and no check bones! the first time i when to the orthodontics i was like 16 years old and my family couldn't afford it! im 27 now and i haven't have the procedure needed 😢 I guess in part because I choose to be a mother and this kinds of things can't be done while pregnant or breastfeeding. i can definitely see my teeth are suffering and the headaches i get from jaw pain is ridiculous! you are bless to be able to have it done good luck and im sure the sense of relief after everything will compensate for all the struggles throughout the procedure
same story during my late teens I would not open my mouth to smile infront of others/camera up to now, I know I need a jaw surgery but we don't have enough money for that procedure since I went also other major surgery because of unexpected illness last 2015 it cost alot of fortune to the extent of borrowing some to our relatives T.T

I am 1 month and a week post-op and I'm so happy that it's over lol the first 4 days are the worst, the swelling is the worst ugh... but it's totally worth it, I'm very happy with the results and whenever you run into someone you know they're like: o.O omg you look so different!. Lol it's very funny.

my orthodontist recommended that i get jaw surgery for my over bite, i was hesitant at first due to the cost and just anxiety of having surgery, but lately I've been noticing that its more difficult to bite food...i still don't know if I'm getting the surgery anytime soon but i definitely would like to get it eventually. (just turned 18, had braces now for 1 year now)
Hey Jair ! I've had a similar problem. In my case it was a crazy overbite. Fortunately, I got away without a jaw surgery. However, my orthodontist needed to extract my top first premolar teeth and then I got braces for around 3 years. I'm not an orthodontist but there might be an easier solution to your current problem. I have an under bite too it suck!!! :'( but the orthodontist told me he could fix it by braces alone... I will see if it is or maybe a jaw surgery too.

This was exactly me. Like 100%. I also jumped around orthodontists too 😂. Braces made my underbite more noticeable, I couldn’t bite burritos, wraps, pizza, sandwiches, and it was so visually unappealing too 😂. I also had double jaw surgery about 3.5 weeks ago. And recovery is hard, my liquid diet still has 2 weeks to go aghh. Ive seen your followup vids too and I cant wait till im that far into the recovery!

I can relate to this alot. I need to get braces and need this surgery, but I'm afraid bc I haven't been to the dentist in so long and feel self councious.

my orthodontist recommended that i get jaw surgery for my over bite, i was hesitant at first due to the cost and just anxiety of having surgery, but lately I've been noticing that its more difficult to bite food...i still don't know if I'm getting the surgery anytime soon but i definitely would like to get it eventually. (just turned 18, had braces now for 1 year now)
Hey Jair ! I've had a similar problem. In my case it was a crazy overbite. Fortunately, I got away without a jaw surgery. However, my orthodontist needed to extract my top first premolar teeth and then I got braces for around 3 years. I'm not an orthodontist but there might be an easier solution to your current problem. I have an underbite too, but it isn't too prominent imo I think I'll have to ask my dentist about this next time I go though.
I have an under bite too it suck!!! :'( but the orthodontist told me he could fix it by braces alone... I will see if it is or maybe a jaw surgery too.

How is your top jaw moving back if it’s your skull? Wouldn’t the lower mandible move outward causing the appearance of the top mandible moving inward? I’m so confused

This was exactly me. Like 100%. I also jumped around orthodontists too 😂. Braces made my underbite more noticeable, I couldn’t bite burritos, wraps, pizza, sandwiches, and it was so visually unappealing too 😂. I also had double jaw surgery about 3.5 weeks ago. And recovery is hard, my liquid diet still has 2 weeks to go aghh. Ive seen your followup vids too and I cant wait till im that far into the recovery!

Mine's the opposite. I have an overbite.
On the 15th I go for them to see what I need to get done. Then in 4 months I go for my double jaw surgery*;0)
