Who Were The 17 Offensive Players Drafted Before Derrick Henry? Where Are They Now?

- Derrick Henry is a rare breed. He has at one point been the best player at every level, rushing for the most yards in high school history before winning the Heisman Trophy in college. In 2019, he was named an All-Pro after leading the NFL in rushing yards with 1,540. Henry has dominated on the football field his entire life, yet, at the 2016 NFL Draft he wasn’t selected until the 45th pick in the second round by the Tennessee Titans.

What most people don’t realize is that Derrick Henry had a conversation with Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans legend Eddie George during the 2018 season and he hadn’t received real criticism until he got the wake up call from George. That’s what inspired him to not only put up that monster game against the Jags, but carry that momentum over the last few games that year.
Tommy Nguyen probably one of the greatest come back story from a near bust player to a potentially HOF in recent history
Tommy Nguyen okay but how do you pronounce your last name
That’s a joke right? This kid ran for the most yards in high school history and went on to win the heisman trophy and a Nat’l Championship but he’s not motivated? He needed an ex player chit chat to wake him up? Come on bro!
It’s a simple as he finally got comfortable in the offense and then they started giving him more opportunities 🤦🏼♂️
mb4266 Not a joke. Look up Derrick Henry and Eddie George and you’ll see several clips of George giving DH real criticism and DH has been grateful for that.
This did happen but it is NOT the reason Henry became effective. He did nothing any different from HS. The Titans were stupid and did not use him properly. He needs carries and lots of them. Hell they were wasting carried on Dion Lewis & before that a washed up vet. Can't give him 10 carries and expect greatness. Minimum 20 per game but more is better.
Fun fact: Derrick Henry has more playoff passing touchdowns than carson wentz
and to think they said he was ineffective in the passing game...
Did you here him say the “Clemson tide” lmao it’s at 2:29
Breaking News: Bill O’Brien trades JJ Watt and Deshaun Watson for 2 rolls of 3 ply toilet paper(couldn’t even get 4 ply)
Plus 3 cents for cap space
JGod 13 😂😂😂😂
You just stole that from bleacher report
Lol 😂
This seems like a good haul for Bill o brien
How do you run for 4,000 yards and 55
touchdowns WTF
I have one theory be a manimal playing against boys, in high school
I don't think Derek Henry is actually human I think he's a robot and the only reason that he was made is to bully people on the football field
wasnt it not in all 4 years in highscool?
E1iteChaos no 😂 it was his senior season, he had over 12k total in high school
Liam games 🤔
Slow start to his career but ultimately ended up playin like the beast he was in college, excited to see what he is gonna do in the years to come
Seasons go by so fast, it's hard to keep up. But they only started him in like, what, 2 games and he was behind Murray for a while? Maybe that was what they wanted. For me, the guy who broke records set by both Bo Jackson and Hershel Walker, in that insanely tough SEC defensive competition, would have started every game! lol
Before he gets injured lolll
Burt Macklin why are you a hater??
That might be to his benefit. He wasn't ready to start in 2016 so that only extended his prime since that's less carries on his body.
I’m not really hating, he’s just a really good player on a rival team in our division, this was the year he finally took off, so, I’m using the injury bug as a coping mechanism
13:21 made me laugh so damn hard when this happened
Bruh
What confuses me is how he dropped that far due to his high school career the fact he was the second ranked running back concidering Jadeveon Clowney was an absolute beast for just one year and still got selected no 1 overall
It's because he is a runningback and it makes sense. Runningbacks usually don't have a long career and are pretty replaceable. Just look at how many RBs with big contracts have been cut or moved/not resigned this offseason.
Nye a ok
Coming out of HS Clowney was almost guaranteed to be a top 1st rounder.
or nfl evaluators, Questions on Henry included Lateral agility, if he was good, or if it was just Alabama's Oline, his pass catching and blocking, and if he was worn down from his alabama days.
Clowney plays DE which is a premium position. RB is the opposite, you rarely see a RB in top 5-10 picks. Even if we redraft, I doubt henry, as good as he is, will be #1 pick
I still don’t get that a heisman trophy winner gets picked in the 2nd round
Well u gotta think, most backs in the pros rn aren’t a monster of a man like Derrick, also Derrick isn’t super good at being a receiving back, I loved him in bama, I’m a Titans fan so I loved it when they drafted him, but in my opinion on paper he wasn’t worth a first round pick, but damn am I happy we have him and someone like the chiefs or bucs don’t 😂
There were questions about his agility, route running, footwork, vision, workload etc. Big Backs don't transfer well but I'm so happy we picked him up. As a fan I can say that he needed to sit. He wasn't ready in 2016.
Shows that being pro ready is different than Heisman talent
Heisman winners don't usually wind up top pro players it's a different game
@@NobodyUR it really is
Bro you gotta watch these videos before you post, there’s some weird sounds and some clip jumps
4:22 and other parts
@@Chantubegamer that wasn’t by accident dip fuck
@@joeymullineaux3128 why are you calling me names when I was just stating parts that were cutting too early.
@@joeymullineaux3128 you’re a moron 🤣🤣🤣
@@jakesimmons2965 how bruh it’s true
People blame Henry for his slow start when Tennessee used him improperly. 2019 was the first year he was used as a feature back to start the season.
@Getting Instructions true...but who else has the staff been under utilizing. I think that's a real concern considering they didnt know how to use a 240 pound rb who pounds defenses into submission that also has breakaway speed. Nick Saban showed them exactly how to use him.
Thanks for making this video. Derrick was definitely a gem for the Titans
And is
IS a gem
Even better that he was their 4th pick!
You could be lazy and make one for Michael Thomas where you just add Derick Henry and change the beginning. Bro was drafted only 2 behind Henry.
Henry is better
@@Mort0jk there 2 different positions like don’t compare wr to a rb
@@wintrr8948 Yeah michael thomas is doing really good right now
I love these videos u should do who was drafted before gronk!
coming soon
J&D Productions omg cant wait!
How about Aaron Hernandez
😬
Heheh... You mean the overhyped simp on the bucs?
Imagine being a QB in high school, college , or any professional football organization n hearing a kid in high school ran for 4K n 55 TD’s mean while you might go undrafted after throwing for 2500+ yards 💀🤣
😹
i can never forget the 2019-20 season titans run, they got slept on big time
Nobody remembers jake Coker who played with Henry his last season with Alabama that dude had balls of steel dude trucked a corner on a run not only that he outran an entire Auburn defense to throw and win a game that dude is underrated
Wait, I had no Idea Redskins fans existed
you must not live anywhere near DC
How dare you 😢
@SlapS lol
We're not to common, but we're loyal as fuck.
Y’all in an abusive relationship
My man Jamal Adams taking the stiff arm to the face at 2:26 hurt.
What stiff arm
They didn’t block for s*** for Henry in most of 2018 season
This past season is the last time I can remember the Titans having an O-line since that by-inches Super Bowl year with George and McNair.
ApplachiaMarv in 2016 we had one of the best o lines but then they fell off a bit after that until this year
Lol.... its hard to block 8man fronts. When you don't have a credible passing threat they will stack the box and your running game will look really anemic. This happened to Demarco Murray and even CJ2K at one point. As soon as defenses had to defend the pass more with Tannehill at qb, Henry's numbers went through the roof. They compliment each other. Because of Henry's running ability, Ryan was able to take advantage of defenses when they tried to stack. Because Ryan was able to beat stacked defenses, Henry saw more 6 and 7 man fronts and was able to run alot easier
Rich B indeed very true. I’m just saying the blame Henry for his lack luster season
No he just wasn’t utilized
You guys should do a series like, who were the players after. Where you look at draft busts and see the players picked after him. To see who was still on the board so they could've picked a star
I’ve been waiting for this one for ages
Henry is absolutely amazing
13:22 😂😂😂
The 81 dislikes are from ravens and patriots fans
Wtf is this editing
How do you only have 32k subscribers that’s crazy
We keep asking ourselves the same question 😂
@@JDProdNFL yeah especially when you can’t edit a video correctly
Another Bama player ... Love It !!! Roll Tide !!
Love your videos bro
Players drafted before Chandler Jones! Keep up the great videos!
Lol I’m here after that MONSTER STIFF ARM... yea you know what I’m talking about 💀
While watching this video on the part about Taylor decker on the lions I got a notification from the nfl app about a 2016 redraft that had the lions taking Derrick Henry
Excellent video
Great vid
Why was there a huge skip at 13:22? I wanted to watch that and I've noticed a large amount of skips in previous videos.
Yea
I watched this video the day after he recorded his 4th game of 200+ yards and 2+ TDs against the Texans.
Sixth game of such in his career.
Your vids are so dope
How could you not point out that Coleman had the CLUTCH drop with the Browns to secure the 0-16 season!
I’m watching this after week 5 2020... dude on pace for 1800yds and about 20 TDs.
after watching him at ALABAMA honestly thought he was gonna be first back taken and best back in nfl...then they started talking about his "stride length" and whatever else blah blah...and i couldnt believe it... now hes pounding it down everybodys throat and i love it!
im a patriots fan, but he is one of my favorite players. he is one of the best running backs in the league
Great video, a little bit of editing mistakes, but overall good
All hail King Henry
I was thinking about doing this same video! I still love it though!
Day 1 of asking J&D Productions to do Who was drafted before Nick Chubb
Facts I've been asking for like 3 weeks
Will Hernandez was drafted before Nick Chubb
@@smallgraydonguy ye
Too early.
Aww You guys!!!☺️🙏🏿
Watching this kind of videos, it's pretty clear drafting is almost a random exercise yet GM and their staff are highly compensated for quasi random results.
That little vocal freaks me out because I forget every time
I have the same birthday as Derrick Henry and as a giants fan I wanted him at number 9
To be honest, I'm not sure how he was ever considered a bust. He's not had a season under 4ypc, that's top tier. People think if you don't win games by yourself you are a bust
There were a shit ton of editing mistakes in this vid
imagine letting a literal TANK fall this deep in the draft.
i feel like if u talk about a specific game they have, u should put more highlight clips of that game so ppl can see how good they played
Wild how they signed Ryan to a monster deal let’s see how he does this season
He’s doing pretty well, putting up top 10 numbers (top 5 or better in a lot of areas) while making less than top 10 salary. It’s a win-win.
man was really living the road to glory life
Crazy how he was getting almost 30 carries at Alabama for one year
The fact I called the Derrick Henry titans pic was lovely
Best ruuning back baby
Don’t forget the grind he put in to be where he at.
1:53 make sure to properly check ur vids before uploading. Love the content
I feel like most people that watch football have known he was a beast who just never got a chance with the Titans.
Henry was a much better, more truck heavy version of Eddie Lacy
He deserves his 4yr/50M contract.
So many new henry fans lol love this guy though
I liked what he had to say about the 6th overall pick
You should do the players drafted before DeAndre Hopkins
chicagofanpaul I did that on my channel
Players drafted before Aj brown
Still dont see how he didnt win rookie of the year
Andrew Flowers QB is more important, so they win over RB/WR. Dak won ROTY over Zeke in 2016 when Zeke had over 100 ypg.
I was stoked when we got him
i'm gonna repeat it because what he said was facts and its hard to believe "he never rushed under 100 rushing yards in high school" Derrick Henry is a beast.
That was a pretty good draft class
4:40 the Titans haven’t won the AFCS since 2008
With bill o'Brien at the head of the Texans, it's all ours now
A couple of picks after Derrick Henry was Michael Thomas. Great picks in the second round!
It would be cool if he did a super long video of who was drafted before ton brady
We did all 198 players brother! Go check it out
Day 1 of asking could you guys maybe do these for hockey too
I was hoping and praying the Bears would draft him
I didn’t know a lot about the nfl back then because I watched college but I honestly thought Henry was a top 10 pick
I’m glad he got picked late Bc otherwise he would’ve gotten labeled a 1st round bust and would’ve never gotten a chance for this breakout year
Cannot cap 2016 was jus goatified
We was a wildcard team we haven't won our division since 08
I have a feeling your going have to do one of these for tua tagovailoa in a few years
I think so
I don't have that feeling
Ok. Every player picked before him is better. Done.
@@crms00n6 haha ok hater
@@jonboy87 he has glass hips. He's been hurt 3 times in a year. Not a hater. A realist.
To tell the truth, the 2016 draft class was stacked. It may be one of the best ever, actually
not at WR tho
naa 2017 was
You Should Do the Offensive Players Before Miles Sanders
Did u make a Stefon diggs one
Imagine if this was posted after the 2020 season
Derrick Henry is a big man bro he like 6’3 I thought he was 5’11 6,0
That lynch pick killed us as denver fan that was big f up
Yeah there’s just 1problem, Elliot was in the draft the year before it was Fornette that was in this draft. Otherwise amazing video and I love that u did it on my favorite player, KING HENRY!
Who edits your videos
The reason you said offensive players is because the only running back drafted before Derrick Henry was Ezekiel Elliot.
Yep, and Zeke Elliot has proven his worth for the Cowboys.
You should do who were the offense of player selected before Lamar Jackson
Michael Thomas was also taken two picks after Henry
Can you do one with Travis Klce please
Can you do one for Justin Simmons
How dare you mention Henry's third year leap and not mention Eddie George's advice? When Henry was splitting time with Lewis, he called fellow Titan and Heisman winner George for advice after a week 7 loss to the Chargers in London. George hit him with tough love, saying he wasn't using his physical advantages. That he was treating every carry like it was "Touchdown or bust". Basically, he told him to "get tougher".
His next game against Washington, he had half the carries, but twice the YPC. His usage and yardage increased for five weeks, culminating in his legendary 238 yard, 4 td game vs. Jacksonville, which included his 99-yarder. And he hasn't looked back since.
i been following him since 2018 and look what happen
I wouldn’t be surprised if Fuller gets released
he is injury prone
Do the defensive players selected before Minkah Fitzpatrick
Love my boy Minkah, but it was 3 guys. Ward to the Browns, Chubb to the Broncos, Smith to the Bears. All good players and one could make the argument that he is still not the best of the bunch. Ward won DROY, Chubb is a monster but got hurt, Smith was great but has had soft tissue issues the last year.
What is up with the cuts in this video?? Or is that just my video that sounds like the audio is mixed and mashed?
RUclips attempted to take this video down due to copyright and trimming it in the RUclips editor was the only way to keep it public
He has one good year then everybody be like BeSt Rb In ThE nFl
I remember saying that the Steelers should’ve drafted him and traded Bell.
Yo what is up with the editing multiple times you cut before finishing a point to a point that you haven’t properly established
Can u do marshon lattimore
Isn’t that why his first catch this season he had 75 years passing td
Bradley Davis that has to be the longest passing TD in NFL history!!!! Wow!
