My biggest regret as a Fish keep is, selling my clown loaches MULTIPLE times. They are such slow growers and the larger ones are just not available like they used to be in my area.
That is so awesome my friend!! I really hope and pray that someday I can join you with keeping these amazing fish... Not much room in a camper but that doesn't keep me from dreaming!!😁💪👍🙌❤️🐟🌿
This should be a specialty fish, but from my days, my school of archers was probably the standout. When you get them at pet stores they're quite timid, but once they grow to about 3 inches you can train them to spit, it never got old to hold up a meal worm above the tank and have them shoot it own before dropping it in. They should be in brackish as they get older, but with some rainbow fish and gudgeons they made my favourite biotope tank by far. The other one would be madagascan rainbows. They can school really well in current, and also love eating small crickets as well as typical food. They're spectacular when older. I had a community tank with madagascan rainbows and congo tetras together, was amazing. Thanks for an enjoyable video!
A few months ago, I bought about a dozen Galaxy Rasboras along with a dozen Chili Rasboras in my ten-gallon tank . Thanks for letting me know about these fish.
Gardneri killifish! Everyone should try keeping killifish at least once. There are over 1000 species. Many can live in a community tank. Most live as long as tetras and similar fish. They do jump, so keep a tightly covered tank. Killifish are some of the most colorful freshwater fish.
A few I think are worth mentioning: - Lake Malawi African cichlids(specifically mbuna and peacocks). They have some amazing bright colors, active, and they get excited when you walk in the room or near the tank. -another I feel rivals the Oscar, if not trumps it, is the Flowerhorn. Their personalities are second to none. Feeding is always a spectacle. They are like water puppies.
The Oscar made it onto the list... that's all that really matters 😆 If they didn't hide so much, I'd suggest the black ghost knife as a must try. They are so cool to watch move. Unfortunately, like many catfish/plecos, they don't free swim during the daylight hours, which is a pain in the shortpants when it comes to showing off your fish.
Hello you two! I just wanted to say “thank you” I’m a recent subscriber, boy do you two have a ton of great info! you guys have motivated me to keep myself in the Fish keeping Hobby. Again thank you so much for your dedication, hard work, and your content!
Mine 'you must own fish' has to be rainbowfish tons of variety/species, absolutely beautiful, various sizes, can co-exist with other species, long lived, i didn't get them for years thought hard to keep but i was proved wrong.. now I can't imagine myself not owning them!
Dwarf Flag Cichlid. I’ve kept 3 in a planted 20 long for two months now. Each is about 2 3/4 inches and shouldn’t get much larger.. They share the tank with 6 White Cloud Minnows, some Otto’s, and a Clown Pleco. No aggression towards the other fish, just minor quarrels with each other and only at feeding time. They leave the plants alone. Nice pattern, color, and iridescence. They are smart and are complete water puppies when I get near the tank. So far, one of the most peaceful Cichlids I’ve kept over the years.
My tiger barbs are awesome especially the emerald green ones it's almost like they are changing colors when swimming around very active they eat little peranas
hello Jason and Joanna!! Great idea Joanna... Definitely another banger of a video 🙌 You guys always inspire me to keep learning for when the day comes I can keep more amazing fish!! Luckily the first time around in the hobby I was able to keep some amazing species.. my problem back then was not understanding the actual aquariums themselves... Especially keeping a planted natural type tank!! Thank you guys for teaching me so much along the way.... Someday I will have me another fish room and when I do you have prepared me for success!! Thank you so much for this video and I hope you all are having a blessed wonderful day and a great week!!!🙏🌿🐟🌿❤️🥰
I had a male betta was gutted when he died so I was thinking about getting some females. After seen your video and how amazing your tank looked I added 6 to my 105 biorb. Love it, in the couple years I’ve had it it’s the best it’s ever been. Love the channel
Honestly love oscars my dad did a swap his chinchillas for a very large tank two oscars jaws and horace .(female jaw was permanently broken and horace from Mrs Merton show) They were coolest fish had horace for years then dad went for smaller fish. I've always said if I ever had chance/room I'd get oscars myself !
Brilliant Rasbora is a great fish! I've had 6 of them with some White Clouds in a 20 gallon for at least 2 years and they are peaceful and colorful. Great pick!
Great list. I’ve kept fish for decades and have never had an Oscar. I would love to get one. I do have a 125g South American cichlid tank. Most are the more mello type. Angel fish, Severums, red head geo’s and electric blues acara. Not sure an Oscar would work with the angels. Plus my tank doesn’t look full but a lot of the fish are young and growing. I don’t think my tank is big enough
I think fancy goldfish is a must have once, or twice in a lifetime. I think they are like oscars, they can recognize one and each have their own personality.
Gudgeons are amazing, I've kept both purple spot Gudgeon, and empire Gudgeons love them to bits. It makes it easy I live in the country they're native to
Great topic. Love my severums! I think everyone should try Panda Corys, cute, fun, easy to breed did I say cute? Too much cuteness for such a small fish! Thanks guys!!!
I think people should keep a Black Ghost Knife at least once. I’ve always kept one. I’m on my 4th one. He’s about a foot long now. They’re a great community fish. If you have severums and/or geophagus, BGK would be a great addition.
I recomend longfin danios and longfin rosy barbs! They are awesome! And swim around with high energy all day 😆 Cant forget the Bolivian Ram! They are awesome!
Great video as always. I have a video idea for you- Reviews/brand comparisons of large tanks (75+ gallons.) I recently started searching for bigger tanks and was surprised at the lack of results I found on google, the options I saw really were limited from either Petco or Petsmart.
Husband and I are hoping to buy a house soon and he is a bit burned out with fish, but I'm thinking I could convince him to get a Geo if we have the space, currently can't have to big a tank.
Hope you do a couple of other episodes in fish you must have because their is surely a lot more to choose from to limit it just to ten types of fish. Maybe do it in episodes by size nano, midsized, and then larger fish. Maybe and additional episide on unique or speciality fish. As You got Cory's, barbs, tetra, live bearers, bettas, killies, apistogrammas, hillstream loaches, kuhli loaches, angelfish, Discus, electric blue acara, rainbows, firemouths, gouramis and some easier African cichlids like the yellow labs, Neolamprologus Leleupi, Pseudotropheus saulosi, kribensis or blood jewel fish. These are just a few I believe are must haves at some point in one's fish keeping besides all you listed. Maybe besides size episodes maybe from easy to care for to harder, or community to aggressive must haves. This way you can spark interest across the spectrum of must haves at some point in fish keeping.
All these fish are so great! I wish i could have a severum (spelling?) but I don't have a large enough tank or the space to get one. Have seen them take bites out of Cories' fins as well as other fish. Is there some magic number or tank size I am missing? Called "Murder Beans" over here. Would love to keep some though, maybe just a single one in a five gallon.
If it’s a large bowl it might work, but we’re talking at least 5 gallons for a betta and upwards of 10 gallons for small fish. I’m assuming they have heaters and filters where necessary.
I currently have peacock gudgeons they’re my favorites!! I had a pea puffer, I’ve been on the search for more but every fish store says they’re having a hard time getting them. Do you know why?

Thanks for the video guys have a wonderful wonderful day
I’ve never had any luck with the galaxy rasboro, they do ok for a few weeks then show signs of wasting disease...treated for it,with several different products but they always die
I hope you read this and can help with a question I cannot (yet) get an answer to IF you put a sponge fliter for a 2ft tank at each end of a of a 4ft tank, will it fliter the tank sufficiently ?
My tiger Oscar knocks my fluval heater off the suction cups, then push it around then comes to front of tank opening and closing his mouth till I give him his favorite omega one freeze dried shrimp 😂

Angelfish the rope fish have a good day
What is that fish pictured with the peacock gudgeon? Looked like a mini largemouth bass lol
That was Illyodon whitei
I love the puffers! But can’t have them! 🤦♀️❤️🤗💯
Nice!
Black Ghost Knife Fish 👍
I love them! ❤
Peacock Gudgeons IMO are vicious
I hope you read this and can help with a question I cannot (yet) get an answer to IF you put a sponge fliter for a 2ft tank at each end of a of a 4ft tank, will it fliter the tank sufficiently ?
They will have no issues with biological filtration. If you have a lot of fish they may struggle with mechanical filtration though.
electric blue acaras are one of those fish
My tiger Oscar knocks my fluval heater off the suction cups, then push it around then comes to front of tank opening and closing his mouth till I give him his favorite omega one freeze dried shrimp 😂
