no, see, the point is we're here because we've already watched #1 through #16 and are eager for more awesome content! but yeah, if you insist, I'll go back to #4 and watch it again :P
@n99 what do you mean by this? If youre talking about the fact that Prof cant use atogs because theyre expensive, that's not the problem, the problem is that atogs are banned in pauper
The thoughtcast IS complicated cause most people dont know that you have to only pay the mana after you anounce the card, so it was good mengucci explained
I did not know that. I recently started playing flesh and blood (thanks prof) and there you announce the card, pitch the mana, pay the cost and finally resolve the spell. Since mtga taps the lands before the spell is announced i thought it worked like that in paper too.
So you can cast a spell (adding it to the stack) And activate other abilities before paying its cost? Are mana abilities different than any other activated ability?
I came here for this, and I actually wish he would have been assertive enough to explain announcing the spell before paying its cost. I don't even think the professor fully understood what he was trying to present in rules context.
@@aaroncutbirth2019 No you cannot announce a spell and then do anything else besides activate mana abilities. The best example of this is the card Lions Eye Diamond. The oracle text says you can only activate the card as an instant to discard your hand and add 3 mana. This prevents you from announcing a spell and then using the LED to pay for it.
I think what Andrea meant by “complicated” was that he’s declaring the intention of casting the thoughtcast with 4 artifacts in play, and to pay the cost for the spell is cracking the star for blue, which would make it seem like he only has 3 artifacts but affinity locks in the cost when casting the spell, not when costs are paid. Magic rules are weird and cool!
Can you explain this to me though? You say affinity locks the cost when casting the spell, but he can't cast it without paying its cost, which he couldn't without blue mana. So he's not casting the spell before cracking the star. Much confuso
Came here for the "Is It Worth it to Buy ___" videos as a new player, still around for the fun Shuffle Up and Play videos! Love the works Prof, stay classy!
@@fdsal0 also in paper if it's popular in your country. In Italy it's pretty popular and we have weekly paper tournaments in a couple of LGS in my area. There are also huge events like Paupergeddon that last time in Rome had more than 400 players!
There is something so mesmerizing about the way Andrea taps his lands... precise and quickly. Can we get an ASMR stream of just Andrea tapping lands 😅😂
I really enjoy how the players explain the cards and why they’re playing them and how they all interact with each other. Really helps with learning the game
Epic games! Some of the best on the channel so far. Sometimes you get the right blend of players and this was it. Lua seems knowledgeable, fun and prepared. Tori has such a warm glow and quick puns (that had me dead). Add in Andera as the special guest, and that made it a top notch video. One suggestion is to make Tori a co-host, that would be amazing content, she seems to soften the mood and balance the Prof in a very special way. Kinda like if a nice burn and grumpy merfolk teamed up! Cheers!
Great to see Pauper content on TCC. It would be great to see more since it used to be a format that you mentioned a lot (and encouraged me to play it - thanks I love it), but haven't heard you talk about it as much recently.
The phrase "You feel alive" has never felt so threatening. Great video! Looking to build a pauper deck, love a good example of what good pauper looks like!
I think the interaction with affinity (thoughtcast) and chromatic star is not really intuitive unless you have a good understanding of the rules or have played with the mechanic before, it's something I've definitely had to explain to players new to pauper. Makes sense that Andrea was explaining it is all I'm saying
Great guests and atmosphere here. This is some my favorite content you are producing right now! Keep up the great work and shining a light on the pauper format!
Andrea is the face of magic for me, together with Reid Duke they are just the 2 most handsome guys for me. Always fun to watch, always high class and entertaining.
Stellar episode, pauper really is my favorite! Very interesting decks, I myself run a version of that monoblack control deck eheh, and I have a boros artifacts one too 8) Thanks for the good work on this series!
I love how some of the cards here are very new (that Baldur’s Gate artifact animator is incredible), while some are very old (Blue Elemental Blast from the past). Truly an eternal format for everyone.
Great episode. Definitely my favorite of the series so far. Maybe because I’m a big Pauper fan but also because the trash talk was more good natured. Sometimes I find the back and forth in other episodes a little off putting.
Excellent duels. The decks shown demonstrate an interesting level of strategy 😎🤙. I am more oriented towards red with an inclination to black but prefer red specially a red goblin mono red deck or a deck with the majority of sorceries and instants (with direct damage abilities) and a few creatures that do direct damage 😎🤙
I know right? As a new player I feel like I've been taught "You have to tap your mana sources before casting spells" But apparently you can do it as part of casting a spell?
@@Coldmaj you announce the spell, and then costs for it are calculated. Since it has affinity and sees four artifacts, it is reduced by four generic mana. Then you pay the costs, at which point the reduction is locked in, and you can sacrifice your artifacts to filter/generate the mana needed to pay for the spell. Loved that Mengu didn't assume everyone knew that, I tend to also explain it to my opponents even when there's no indication they wouldn't know, because it is a rather tricky interaction and some people find it odd.
It's like how the old "damage on stack" rule worked, except now it's "cost on stack" in a way. I expect it might eventually go the same way that rule did, sometime in the future.
It was kinda trivial now but it was a point of contention in the past all the way up to the professional /pro tour level. They change the ruling on casting/annoucement of casting a few times ended up with how it is now.
Ooo RK post did those blood token .? Nice i got a foil arbor elf signed by rk on my first modern tourny 4 years ago :3 love it. Thanks Prof for another episode. :3
Just built my pauper cube 🙂 looking forward to getting it drafted. Would also love to try constructed...I feel like commander, limited/cube, and pauper are the three formats I enjoy playing.
how comes that every Shuffle Up & Play episode is more amazing than the last one and on top of that we always get an even spicier preview of the following episode? I am already looking forward the next play!
I made a Rakdos Burn deck and a 4 color Sliver deck for Pauper and have had a blast playing both. It’s a great format when you can find time and people to play with.
Great showing for Pauper! I would love to watch a Legacy episode (one with true competitive play). Brian from BoshNRoll vs Phil from ThrabenU would be epic!
Thank you Prof for hosting two of my favourite's in Lua and Tori! Absolutely love the ScryBabies and I can't wait for their first episode! Now to enjoy this one and the lovely guests on it, so thanks once again Prof for allowing me this opportunity! Have a great Christmas all of you beautiful people and thanks for a year of laughter and joy!
