Inject Paint into your Resin 3D Prints!

- INJECT YOUR RESIN PRINTS! I love using the Translucent Green resin from Elegoo, but it can be hard to make out details on printed models. Instead of painting the outside of the model, why not paint the inside? If you want to see how I injected paint into this resin print, you can watch this video to learn how and try it yourself!

Okay this is something I have to try!
For sure!
This could make for some ghostly looking miniatures.
Love the look. Inks instead of paint may make this easier. High pigment load and low viscosity. Should help not to trap bubbles.
Add ink then drain and dry it!
That's a great idea; I'll have to check it out!
Crazy idea - for some models, a shaped cavity could add something to the model. For instance, in the doom slayer suit, having the cavity be the shape of a person might be cool.
Dude, that is SUCH a good idea. I’m going to try this!
Glow in the dark acrylic paint.
This idea deserved my subscription.
I always printed with Elegoo white water-washable resin but now I need to order some see through stuff!
Glad you liked it, thanks for jumping onboard!
this is a great idea, I wonder how this will look when printing a hollow translucent text and injecting a contrasty color 😎
That’s an awesome idea!
@@AndrewSink wanted to try this since a long time, maybe you have more time to make it 😉
Wow that looks insane. Thanks for the idea!
Thanks! Give it a shot and let me know what you think!
That's interesting! gonna try that out!
Great quality video! Keep up the awesome work.
Appreciate it! I used a macro lens for the ResinLapse portion, I'm really happy with how it came out!
That's very cool, Andrew!
Thanks Marty! I’m really happy with how it came out!
Thats surprisingly effective!
Right? It’s a pretty impressive look for such a low-effort hack!
Super nice idea
Thanks Max!
It's an interesting idea although how successful it will be depends a lot on the model. Some models may require internal supports even when hollow, for example, or may have thin portions that will prevent the paint from entering. Also I assume the paint inside won't ever really dry?
I love idea. I'm going to use it on a ghostly model than I'm making. That being said if you had either painted-on or airbrush on an ink or a shade to the outer part of the model, the pop the definition in said. It might be slightly easier.
Maybe water the paint down for easier flow into the model. That should eliminate the need for drainage in the arms.
Smart!
I think filling it with Glow in the dark Paint would make it look really cool at night
That is an AWESOME idea.
If you printed one arm as a separate object you would have an easier time injecting. If you add a key at the joint, it would allow you to attach the two prints seamlessly with epoxy
Great point!
Having a table top vibrator might be useful to spread the paint and get rid of air bubbles. It works wonders spreading stone on a dental impression.
That's a really clever idea. I'll have to look into that!
Fantastic idea, how thin did you hollow the Model?
It's important to make sure you're always pointing you drain holes directly into the toilet bowl.
But in all seriousness, this looks dope. Well done.
Thx!
Interesting idea!
I wonder though did you need to keep all that pain inside?
What about draining it out, the inner walls would still be painted so you would get almost the same effect.
I think thinning the paint would help it slosh around and reach all the nooks and crannies inside. You don't need a solid filling of paint, you just need the inner walls to be coated to get the effect.
Clever idea! I can confirm it works; I tried this with a high-viz paint last week and it looks awesome!
have you tried this with acylic ink? or even watering the paint down?
This would look cool with a clear or yellow with a blood red paint on a monster type model.
To give better heft, I have been filling mine with plaster.
Guess I could add color?
This looks amazing good job. Also what’s the resin called that you use exactly?
Thanks! It’s Elegoo Standard Photopolymer Resin, and the color is called ‘Translucent Green’.
There’s a link in my profile if you want to check it out yourself!
If you want to make a solid resin print without breaking the bank you could use a low viscosity, low shrinkage casting resin that could be dyed any color you want. Adding iron powder to the mix would make it even weightier. Apply that thought to the translucent skin, and BOOM!... awesomeness.
Wouldn’t the iron powder sink to the bottom of the vat during printing?
@@AndrewSink I wouldn't add the iron to the printing resin, but the casting resin that you fill the hollow print with. Probably didn't explain it well. Swap paint for filling with a 2 part resin.
@@KCDarkRanger Ooooh! That makes perfect sense; great idea!
Man made Ben 10 Doom slayer
I mean, you’re not wrong!
This makes me think about filling fdm prints with epoxy to speed up prints but not lose strength
That's a really clever idea, and I've seen a lot of prints used for metal forming applications that have been backfilled with epoxy for strength!
Finally get a way to paint the model without stain my hands
Give it a shot, it’s a lot of fun!
I wonder if the paint will ever dry like this? You might consider tinting some epoxy instead and filling with that as it would harden and provide a lot of strength which may come in handy for any structural prints.
That's a great point. I made an extra, my plan is to crack it open in a year and see what happens!
Wouldnt you be able to dilute the paint to help it better spread and to allow you to manipulate it more?
That’s a great idea!
"THIN YOUR PAINTS!" moment
😂
Any chance you could help me get my resin lapse set up properly on my Canon camera?
Sure, it should be pretty easy! Make sure the camera is set to Manual focus, plug it in, and start your print!
Maybe you could try some latex rubber hoses to fill the places not so accesible. As well as low viscocity paints.
Maybe you can use tatoo ink.
So what but look like when the paint dries up? You didn't just paint the inside and then let the existing paint leak out where you just ended up with a painted interior?
It seems like you left liquid paint in the core of the model and as it dries it will shrink and crack?
im not sure if it would work - but if you cover the inside with glow paint or uv paint and it could charge through the resin...
That’s a great idea, definitely worth trying!
Cool. Tbh you should probably be vacuuming the ink into the model. Look into luer lock fittings. Also there are inks that UV cure so that's definitely an option.
Edit: as for luer locks.. print an extra bit that you can cut off that has the threads on the model. Basically a sprue.
Clever idea, for sure!
I saw another video of making 3d resin prints look like glass. I wonder how these two techniques would work together
Probably very well!
DOOMSLAYER!!!!!
Have you tried to paint your printed model, instead of injection ?
Yes
next up... fill them with glitter!
Adios!
Ur print didn’t failed even it has no inner support ?😳
just put the paint before printing
Why not just use the same resin in clear and mix in ink/pigment and let insides get coated, then drain out excess and cure in the curing station then fill in holes... That way you don't have all that excess paint trapped...
Ought to be interesting if it gets put in a bag and an arm breaks off... Stealth paint bomb?
