yes i’ve found the best top to match straight leg for us shorties is a completely tucked in, slightly (but not too) loose top. it also works to cuff the jeans just above heeled ankle boots

Great tips! I'm 55 yo and 5'2. It's the concepts (lengthening, pointy toe etc.), not the exact outfits that are so very helpful! I found these wonderful pointy toe heeled, but not sky high boots by Ninewest that I think will be great! They are not ankly boots. I've always worried about my pooch as far as tucking my shirt in but I find that tucking it in and wearing a longer over jacket does the trick. I'll have to check out more on your channel. 😊

I think applying the rule of 2/3rds works here as well. When you have the longer jacket on it goes 2/3 of the way down your body and visually makes you look taller. When you have on the shorter jacket it cut you in half and I agree, it isn’t as flattering. It really helped to see your examples and now I have some ideas to style straight leg jeans!

Thank u for this video! I find it challenging to find straight leg where the scale is properly made. Meaning the leg is a slimmer cut so it doesn’t look so baggy. I think denim on denim works when you wear a different wash -one dark, one light wash. For a button shirt, unbutton the bottom couple buttons, cross cross ends and tuck into waist. It will give u a fitted , cleaner look.

Very helpful video, thanks! I tried on straight jeans for the first time since my teenage 90's years and indeed had a very hard time styling them. I am a inverted rectangle with a tummy omg love hate these jeans. They balance out my hips and legs but I can't seem to hide my tummy without looking frumpy. But then again they are a little bit more forgiving on my tummy than a skinny because of the baggyness. Also when I put on a fitted blazer the frumpy area of the jeans if you know what i mean is looking weird. Should i go for a more fitted sized jeans on the waist you think? Would I lose the benefit of the baggy look? And do all these straight legs look frumpy in the front? I have size 24. Sorry for all my questions.🙈 Btw.: I'm going to try a white linnen more fitted blouse with tying in the front. I ordered those today so nice to see you had the same idea about a more fitted one 🙂.
I totally agree with you on the denim on denim look. It’s not for me. I liked your suggestions. I wear straight legged jeans way more often than skinny. I have really thick legs and don’t find skinny jeans to be flattering on me. I like wearing my straight leg jeans with a fitted top and fitted jacket. One of my go to looks.

I agree with your tips in balancing your tops with the straight jeans. I don't agree with skinny jeans looking the best on a petite frame. I realized this when I looked back on photos of myself and like I heard someone else say, skinny jeans on a short girl can make you look like a lollipop.😉I did not realize how much better I looked in straight jeans until I bit the bullet and tried a pair. Now they are my go-to. I feel much more balanced. I am keeping one pair of skinny jeans to wear them with knee high boots. I am just a little over 5ft and larger at top than bottom. So, the straight or flare looks best on me. I am not a very big person either. I do gravitate towards your videos since I am petite also.

Is there a good rule for cutting the pants above the ankle bone? I can’t stand the way they puddle at the bottom and just make my ankles look tremendous, even though they are not.
Straight legs also look better above the ankle, but when you’re showing socks, that doesn’t look too good. Any tips for those of us who need to wear socks? I was thinking of knee-high pantyhose. Though they are not that comfortable. Does everyone wear those little ped type socks? Or just go without any socks at all? They always slide off my heel and torment me all day.

Where should the jeans hit at the ankle? I bought some straight leg jeans with a raw hem so I could cut them myself, but how do you know what the right length is? They are currently bunching up at my shoes because they are too long but I'm scared to cut too much off!

What about us short petite chubby women. Are the rules the same.
Also all petites are not created equal. Body shape has a lot to do with how clothes look. I’m 5’4-not quite petite but not tall either. I tend to be the opposite of most petite youtubers. I have a short waist, long legs, broad shoulders and larger chest. So balance for me looks different. Often wider leg pants balance out my broad shoulders and mid rise balances out my short waist. Outfits with skinny jeans often makes me look like an apple with skinny arms and legs.
Me: likes all the no's lol just different style I guess! And I'm 411! :)

I’m really old for many of these tips - 72 - and only 4’11” - so even petite clothing can be long on me. One thing I’d like to mention is that I am a bit “snobby” about my clothes - at my age I like very high quality clothing - not the top designers or fancy labels per se, but still great quality and therefore often expensive - and I find it difficult to purchase good quality garments that are appropriate for my size and age. The result is that I make many errors because I love the way something looks in a catalog or store and then it looks dreadful on me. I am very appreciative of Madewell, for example - nice quality and fit although expensive. If you have any other recommendations for a very petite short lady who is also not that slim, bring them on! Yes. You need to pay attention to the back view. I never buy or wear anything without checking how it looks from the rear! Straight legs are so hard to pair with boots especially because the width of the leg at the hem varies so much. Frustrating.
One of my real dislikes in a top are dolman sleeves. I think that style makes almost everyone look sloppy and wiiider. And especially me, a petite average weight woman.
Sorry, I don’t agree with you when it comes to tucking in the shirt. I have a tummy and can’t do that. It looks really bad. I have to first work on tummy which I am and exercise is far not helped me reduce it. 😀.
Ankle strap shoes visually cut legs off at the ankle which makes short women look even shorter 🙄
