That's what I was thinking. It's still probably the worst Fighter Multiclass, but it's not necessarily terrible and it's a really cool concept. Especially since it gives you bonus actions when you're a class that doesn't traditionally use them.

    I guess since I haven't seen it
Artificer: cilantro. Some hate it, some love it
Barbarian: sugar. Extremely strong, but very much a main part when you use it
Bard: salt. Everything can use it, and it pairs perfectly with some things
Cleric: beef. Great on its own, a good part of anything, but just doesn't fit with specific things
Druid: tomatoes. They're good with a lot, but I don't want them with my rice
    Fighter: Potatoes
Monk: Energy drinks. An ungodly mix of sugar and caffeine.
Paladin: cheese. It's good with a lot, but not everything
Ranger: milk. Some love it, some hate it, but it's a sleeper part of the dish
Rogue: water. As good and useful as it is boring.
Sorcerer: bread. Can be great, but has problems with certain other ingredients
Warlock: peppers. Adds some kick to a lot of things
Wizard: Cayenne pepper. Good with a lot, but suffers on some specifics

    • @jaketron101
      @jaketron101 3 года назад +24

My biggest problem with multiclassing is missing milestones. For the builds here he assumed you are level 20 and basically always had 11 levels in fighter. If your campaign ends at like level 13 though you probably won't want to multiclass till level 12 because of the extra attack. Multiclassing imao can easily go wrong without a lot of planning and the first step is knowing what your end level is(which can majorly change the usefulness of combinations). But also if you dip too early you can fall behind the rest of the party for quite a while.

@@jaketron101 this is a good analysis, while these tier lists are using a lot of final level assumptions, being 5 fighter 4 anything else will service your build well throughout more moderate leveled campaigns. It's so God damn strong and flexible, sure you can booming blade people in the face but that's smooth brain. Sapping sting can knock a target prone to get advantage on the rest of your onslaught, mind sliver before a battle master maneuver to ensure success, make blade ward into a pseudo rage if you get into a sticky situation without eating your whole turn, minor illusion to give you temporary cover for ranged fighters, mold earth for actual cover, Robinhood an arrow into a firebolt, I forget if guidance is on the wizard list or not but you can dip to get it if you don't but you can use it to give yourself a free d4 to a grapple or shove in the same turn! It's The Luffy of multi attacks, so flexible.

@@OffbeatOutlaw I do agree with you that you can build a strong character with sorcerer and fighter i just disagree with it being overally a good multi for fighter in terms of the video eldritch knight + sorcerer. Eldritch knight is an intel class and has low amount of spell slots. Sorcerer main trait is meta magic so on a multi i just dont see it being overally that good for a fighter (eldritch knight) to mutli when different spell casters offer better spells or at least more uses. I should of but it either b or c in almost any other case i just feel that dependency on sorcery points (just like ki) lowers it to not really being functional for a heavy focus as you have to go more in terms of building sorcerer levels to be stable and not like pally where your mostly novaing 1 turn only. The only reason i even put pally as god tier is more smite spells, channel divinity and auras which make them highly powerful without building a nova boss killer.

Im runnin a fighter/warlock with undead/pact of the tome (BoAS) and duelist/eldritch knight. Definitely not the most "power built" stats at lower levels but gives you INSANE versatility/utility. You can have up to 6 cantrips and 7 or 8 spells by level 6 (3 in each) (short rest to replenish limited spell slots) combined with the form of dread can make some funny interactions since you have the potential to cause fear as well as have spells/cantrips that cause damage if the enemy moves. And thats before accounting for action surge plus the buffs FoD give you. So ba form of dread (cause fear) into booming blade 2x into action surge eldritch blast with or without agonizing blast or 2x melee attacks. Then next turn you can grasp of hadar them towards you 10 feet. Odds are being feared they move at least 5 feet from you and take the extra damage you can repeat (minus the action surge). Combine that with something like chill touch for a necro boss or big undead creature and you can see how the damage could stack (and stop boss from healing)
But outside of that you also end up with things like identify and other "utility" spells within the BoAS as rituals to go over any loot or artifacts found after your boss fight/dungeon escape. Combine that with the fact that the BoAS gives you the ability to add ritual spells in for cost/time/finding them on scrolls, books, or (if the dm allows) from someone proficient in arcana who is willing to teach you it. Then if you can get ceremony into your spell book you can not only marry people but also cast spells to not allow dead creatures to be brought back to life for 7 days.
Can you tell im in a zombie/necro heavy campaign?? Also let me know if i missed any cool combos. Keep up the sick videos!

Okay, thing about Monk Multiclasses, is that they are unquestionably non-viable for power-builds, however, +10ft movement bonus and adding your wisdom mod to your AC, plus bonus action unarmed strike, are pretty solid benefits for level 1 (edit: movement bonus is at lvl 2). Do they beat any of the other martial classes for damage and raw power? No. Your best Multiclass into Monk is as a non-martial class, that can acclimate to the different ability score requirements.

@@OffbeatOutlaw Oh my! Thank you very much. I enjoy Monks conceptually a lot, so finding out where they fit can be a real thought experiment. Wackiest options I've found are Bladesinger/Monk for insane mobility and high AC as low as level 3, and Druid, since, when you think about it, all animals use unarmed strikes. Which means kung fu wolf murdering bandits (depending on the DM's ruling, because Wild Shape says "Your game statistics are replaced by the statistics of the beast" which is somewhat vague to me regarding martial arts). Also, not all Ki abilities count as spells, which is something even wackier to think about in the context of Wild Shape and multiclassing. Not meaning to ramble, just appreciate the response and my immediate instinct was to gush on this subject I've thought a lot about. I've been enjoying your content as well, including the reasonable Monk critiques, so I think I'll subscribe. Keep up the good work man.

Rangers one of my favorite classes. As for multiclassing with fighter, theres one really fun build I have using Horizon Walker Ranger, Cavalier fighter, Assassin Rogue, and war domain cleric for a boy blinking around the battlefield, striking multiple enemies for (potentially) safe crits, and marking an opponent to have disadvantage attacking anybody other than you before warping away and turning a fight into a benny hill chase scene. Is it weird and awkward having 4 classes on a build? A bit. But is it fun? Absolutely XD

I have actually found a use for the Champion subclass - an Elven Archer, with Elven Accuracy, Sharpshooter, Crossbow Expert, Piercer, and a friend who loves starting combat with Faerie Fire to give you ranged advantage. With Bracers of Archery, +3 bow, and +3 arrows, that's an Alpha Strike with a 37% chance to crit per hit (assuming the target ends up glowy), eight attacks, and a potential average damage of roughly 250 damage / maximum 376, and a normal round of an average of 125 / maximum 188 - and all of this from up to 600 feet away, or at point blank with no disad. And those averages don't count the free 1d8 reroll per round.
Oh, and one level of Rogue can be a great non-combat useful one level dip. Did that with an Eldritch Knight once to end up with a gish with the highest Arcana skill in the party. :D

Multiclassing Wildfire Druid gives you a great use of your bonus action, basically giving you a free teleport spell that damages. Ya, it ain't as tanky, but the mobility it provides is insane. Plus, the fire damage spells are a great bonus.

I found that Monk mixed pretty ok with the fighter if you take echo knight and the way of the astral self on a bug bear. 15 ft reach, extra attacks, force damage, and flurry of blows. All of this with having a additional attack from your echo with having easy mobility between these two classes. It's not the biggest slobber knocker sure, but it has lots of options, easy ways to get around, ways to stealth, and options for mitigating damage ensuring you stay in the fight.

response to 22:01 Pair it with the necromancer wizard and the battle master fighter and you get what is essentially a zombie general able to take spells and maneuvers that aid his troops and help him out like "bait and switch" or "commanding strike". additionally you can take spells like "phantom steed" "vampiric touch" and "unseen servant" "sapping sting" "toll of the dead" to enhance the theming of "leader of undead soldiers and army" fanstasy even better. I came up with this idea after watching this video a long time ago and honestly i think its a great combo

I've made both a monk/fighter and a monk/rogue and they're surprisingly beefy when it comes to damage/abilities. The monk/rogue is is a swashbuckler with mobile, 5 levels of monk gives me stunning strike, so i go up and stun 2 enemies (with a failed save of course) cunning action hide with my movement speed. And if they both succeeded on their stun save, my leaving doesn't provoke opportunity attacks, granted i hit them at least once. Not to mention sneak attack, and if you have the Unarmed Fighting style (through a feat, i made it a variant human) so you're doing a 2D8+3D6 sneak attack plus mods, not the greatest but not terrible either. The monk/fighter is close to the same, seeing as how it doesn't get the sneak attack damage, but it does have Action Surge. So you could hypothetically stun 4 creatures in a round of combat, and run back to your hidey spot (4D8+ mods)

I made a multiclass that deals 148 damage in 2 turns, and another that can do 174 in 2 turns (both are level 8 only)
both had fighter 2 (cuz action surge is so good), the first was ranger 5 (extra attack, hunter's mark, colossus slayer) and rogue 1 (sneak attack) weapon was longbow, sharpshooter feat
second was barbarian 6 (new path, giant) (elemental cleaver and the ability to add rage to a thrown weapon) (also extra atack) greataxe, great weapon master

  • @jakestephens675

Depending on how your dm would rule it going eldritch knight and blade singer has an interesting interaction where the blade singers extra attack let's them cast a cantrip and at 7 the eldritch knight get war mage which let's you make a weapon attack if you've used your action to cast a cantrip, so I would say by RAW because you're using the attack action and get to cast a cantrip as part of it so it wouldn't apply. But I feel there's enough of an argument to make that it should count especially when you take into account that bladesinger 2.0 came out years after eldritch knight and this interaction probably wasn't thought about when they decided to make the update. If it is allowed then taking BB or GFB at level 12 you're still Essentially making the 3 attacks a normal fighter would be making at the time but one attack gets a little added oomph. So if you still went the 11-9 split and used a melee cantrip you could still be making 4 attacks and adding the cantrip damage bump to 1 attack. It truly is tragic that they changed the wording up on BB and GFB so you can't use shadow blade for it anymore, if that was still the case you could in 1 turn (using a 4th level slot of SB and action surge) make a total of 7 attacks dealing a 31d8+(mod×7) if you have a mod of 5 you'd be looking at a min of 66 and a max of 283
