@@OffbeatOutlaw IDK the fact that it gives the character spells that's normally unavailable to the wizard (which is the ONLY reason it's the best class in the game) is reason to reconsider.

I never understood this argument… sure casters have low HP but they have one of the most defensive spells in the game, they can already start out with max 20 AC with just 2 spells. And their best feature being distance/not forced into melee. Hell, since most creatures that you can choose now can be small thanks to MoM, you can just buy a dang mule and add a sweet 40+ distance to all your spells if you dash every turn with it
That Title would go to the Monk, having a terrible Hit Die/Bad AC, and no actual defensive options.

Not sold especiallywhich wizard has a 13 charisma. And if you say i take 14 charisma on my wizard for fun we don’t need to discuss a tier list?
An optimal wiz goes 16 or 17 int and 14 or 16 dex and 14 or 16 con. Thats a chasima of max 10 left which you probably should put in wisdom for defense. So any multiclass with bard cleric or druid already sets you behding in optimal stat distribution.

However when sacrifice what makes the wizard good and try to become mediocare in another field what is the point of discussing that. Wizards are bad at defense and like this you weaken your defense even further changing you from a glass cannon to a paper cannon. So this must be really worth it? You get 10% better charisma checks which you are probably still bad. If you want to be good at charisma why not play one of the good sorcerer subclasses? Clockwork is almost as good as wizards.

@@CaitSith87 statistically speaking, 10% is massive. Additionally, I personally think that 13 charisma is honestly pretty easy to get ahold of. As a high elf, 12 dex 14 con 15 int as a high elf gets you 14 14 16, which leaves a 13 for charisma from standard array. Additionally, if you’re trying to use bard to pair with divination for roll manipulation or war magic for the counterspell bonus, either way you have built in protection in your wizard kit.

      @seannemo8076 2 года назад

@@Hagen024 Personally, I think heavy armor is over-rated. For one, you need a higher strength score (15 for plate). You only need a 14 to get the most out of any medium armor (unless you take Medium Armor Master; then having a 16 is good). And, regardless of your Dex, taking Medium Armor Master means that you don’t take disadvantage on stealth rolls, something you’ll _always_ have with heavy armor. And while Strength is pretty useless for spellcasters, Dex also adds to your initiative, as well benefiting the saving throws your more likely to have to make.
So while having that character in full plate throwing Fireballs may be thematically interesting, it is _not_ the min/maxed choice.

If you start at at least 7th it might be worth it but id rather just take heavy armor and get to better spells as quickly as possible as spells know are more important than spell slots imo.

      @BW022 2 месяца назад

Yes, I've played a cleric (nature)/1, wizard/x and it massively changes low-level survival. Clerics which gain heavy armor can really affect your low-level survivability. For being held back one level in terms of highest level spells (known/memorized, not slots), you get:
      * Heavy armor and shield which makes you far more survivable. You have better weapons (for low levels) and possibly martial weapons.
      * You have a lot more stats to play with as you can now drop strength and dexterity (just take the movement penalty or use a longstrider if needed). You are also typically fine even with a 13 or 14 wisdom as many good cleric spells aren't based on ability scores -- protection from evil, shield of faith, bless, etc. That means a higher constitution.
      * You gain cleric cantrips -- such as guidance and can use them to free more attack oriented wizard spells.
      * You gain cleric spells -- including healing, bless, heroism, etc. which can be up cast. You can swap out cleric spells on a rest so you can use them for situational things after a rest.
      * There are clerical spells which are rituals. This can help with spell slots simply be memorizing a few which you are likely to use but don't wish to put in your spell book -- say detect magic.
      * Some 1st-level cleric special abilities are useful even at higher levels. Forge domains +1 armor, life domain's extra healing (using higher level slots at the end of the day), etc.
      * You start with a couple more hit points.
Since many campaigns don't go beyond say 10th-level, it's not a terrible trade off.

    On the Wizard/Artificer multiclass:
A 3 level dip for Artificer gets the caster access to something that's more viable for them than the Battle Smith subclass, and that's the Armorer subclass. That's something that prevents you from dying of 1d6 studying damage.
Even better, the Wizard is typically a rear-line caster, and that's something that lines up nicely with the Infiltrator's Lightning Launcher; something of which that just so happens to use INT. for attacks/damage.
For Wizards that are that's melee-curious, there's also the Guardian option, which lets them get access to Thunder Gauntlets.
Overall, that's 3 levels of Artificer in exchange for 2 to 3 ASI's, since the Wizard normally doesn't get any sort of armor proficiencies at all.
I'd not only call that a fair trade, I'd say it puts this M/C option in "god tier", since at worst, you're losing Spell Mastery (18th), ASI (19th), and Signature Spells (20th)... Nothing of which that will truly hinder the Wizard.
EDIT: Forgot to mention... On the topic of heavy armor specifically, most heavy armors have a strength requirement of 13+, making the multiclass build MAD by design. In comparison, the Armorer subclass completely waives all strength requirements involved in wearing heavy armor. That's massive by itself.
And did I forget to mention access to Artificer Infusions? Silly me. :)
Replicate Magic Item (Bag of Holding, Alchemy Jug, Sending Stones, or Spellwrought Tattoo, specifically)
Mind Sharpener (How many concentration spells are there for a Wizard?)
Enhanced Arcane Focus (+1 to spell attacks seems decent here.)
Enhanced Defense (+1 AC Bonus seems decent too.)
    ============================
Outside of that, what are you building for this "Magic the Spending" EDH deck? (I'm curious a bit.)

If you looked at the monk a bit more objectively you’d see that unarmored movement, martial arts, unarmored defense, and the features granted by KI as bonus actions give more versatility than you’re giving it credit for.
The half hearted spell comparisons you made didn’t account for casting time limitations or resource renewal. The ki points that can be spent as bonus actions to replicate spell effects like misty step without actually being spells let’s you still cast a full leveled spell with your action, and renew on a short rest.
Its a bit more similar to a warlock who gains their slots back on a short rest.
Flurry of blows and martial arts probably only have a positive effect on a blade singer, but that shouldn’t negate the efficacy the other traits might have on the build.

If you pair it with a good Dex, you can have a very High AC even at low level. Mage Armor+a shield+14 Dex means a static AC of 17 and up to 22 with the Shield spell at level 3, but if you don't want to waste a spell slot, War Magic gives you +2 AC against a successful attack as a reaction. That ability also gives you a +4 to a saving throw if you fail a save.

Using like Bladesinger could create a claracter that has lots of combat feel or abjuration wizard so you don't have to feel scared to loose HP on the Blood Hunter Rites but no matter what combo you use you're still giving up on spellcasting power to gain more combat and I don't know if that's worth it. It also frees up space in the Wizard spells when leveling for the first two Wizard levels as you get access to sleep through Twilight Domain, and you don't need to grab Detect Magic through Wizard as it's also on the Cleric spell list.

Definetely not bad! But if we are comparing it to a fullwizard it might be important to consider:
      - Bladesingers, the usual choice for a frontline wizard, kinda cant wear medium armor. Would be good for War Magic or Abjuration frontliners tho
      - Con proficiency is great, but for 3 levels in artificer u loose one feat, which could be resilent Con. So I belive this point holds more strength if we consider only a one level dip
      - If you're using weapons, sure likely going bladesinger. U will have one proficiency. Having more can hep if u find a magical weapon that is different from ur chosen proecifiecy, but seem quite a specific situation.
      - This is great, hands down.
      - The low level infusions are great when u get them, but at higher levels they may become quite obsolete if magical items aren't suuuper rare in your campaign.
      - The major point to think about is: this multiclass slows the maximum level or your spells known by 2, right (at odd levels)? This can be huge. Would it be worth it? In my opinion maybe if u want to make a melee non-bladesinger wizard, but not in most cases. And in this case I personally would lean towards Armorer for the extra AC.

This was an interesting video. I enjoy seeing others opinions on how classes interact. I would have thought rogue would have been higher since I figured the bonus action escape for the wizard would be highly sought after since misty step is the level 2 spell I figured I would want as a signature spell and that would require I only cast cantrips for my action.
My experience is very different than yours. My tables seem to play lower tier adventures that have minimal gold and magic items. This means that the wizard has typically been the absolute worst option for the campaigns. Not having access to many spellbooks and virtually no gold to add to their spellbook, the wizard only has access to a few spells from their spell list (only 24 total at level 10) instead of the cleric and druids having access to all their class spells which they can prepare daily. The wizard can cast a lot of the spells that replicate the class features (ie blur) but if you spend the first few rounds of combat casting defensive magic on yourself, the combat is over. We typically have only had 2-3 battles in a day, and very minimal chance any caster had prep time. And wizards cannot heal or really buff party (ok, longstrider and jump? I dont think those count). Their debuff ability and battlefield control is good, but bards also get most of those spells. And Lore bards get magic secrets. Charisma is also useful for party face and bartering, where intelligence has typically been needed for history checks to recall what the DM told those who didnt take notes. Different party dynamic than your tables.

A few comments, while I would say that wizards is generally the strongest class, certain sub classes can be stronger. A good example is the Clockwork soul sorcerer. Not including ritual spells (which I'm aware is a big asterisk) it can have double the available spells per day at level 10. Wizards spell list is indeed the best, but they don't automatically get the versatility of the whole thing like a cleric does. The essentially have to buy or find magic items to expand it past what they gain on level up, which I would argue goes against your can on factoring magic items into the build.
Monk is indeed bad in most instances to multiclass here, although a niche build is made possible with 1 level of monk and the rest bladesinger. You essentially get more dex based weapon options, including a polearm. This opens up the possibility of a polearm master bladesinger that doesn't sacrifice other features.
I would say pure wizard is generally better than a multiclass, but you can get some more focused builds that excel in a particular category that can out do a straight class wizard. Mostly it's just dipping other classes, though. ✌🏻

Would love to see the deck, as a Magic Player for like 12 years im always excited to hear when other people join. Especially for the best format of Commander.

let me see if I got this right: Bonus action casting - because of balancing - prohibits leveled spells to be cast as bonus actions.... but casting a leveled spell on your action does not prohibit any sort of spell to be cast on your turn? there's no -"1 spell per turn unless cantrip + bonus action spell" clause? it only prohibits bonus actions to be used for spells unless the action was using a cantrip?

What is the commander card on your deck? Was that a black card ?

One interaction between wizard and warlocks i also really like is abjuration wizard with warlock's mage armor invocation. As it lets you refill your arcane ward after combat for free if you have the time.
Though i know its niche with one subclass and you can take the innovation feat to get that too.
But aemor of agythisis is also good on an abjurer and eldritch blast is a great addition to wizard for scaling damage.
Also hexblade can also give the wizsrd a shield or celestial warlock for some healing

I found this video very interesting even tho i don't play DnD xD. This kind of tactical analysis is pretty fun :3.
One minor criticism tho. You might want to have a better plan for when to use your second camera. At the moment its just bit random and eratic.
Im not an expert but it could be fun to limit the second camera to fun off topic remarks and jokes. Or maybe you switch to the second camera when you are not talking about something that is on your computer so that you basically differentiate between addressing the audience and presenting your topic. Its not a huge issue but maybe something you can improve :D. (I found your use of it while explaining action surge perfect)

great vid and I don't think it changes its tier but I think that including magic items in the discussion does effect artificer more than the other classes so maybe it shuffles some stuff around but probably not

I have one question. For the combo of bladesinger and eldritch blast could you not just take eldritch blast with the magic initiate feat instead. Now granted if you do it this way you don’t get Agonizing Blast but the point of the build is the number of attacks not the potency of them so I feel it’s just as valid to spend an ASI to get the cantrip as it is to multi-class.

    • @OffbeatOutlaw

The agonizing blast, coupled with Hexblade allows you to centralize a lot of points in charisma while still maintaining potency as a caster.

@@OffbeatOutlaw Thanks for the response, I didn't consider hexblade as part of this. Which is weird because it's not only one of if not the best warlock subclasses but I've also played one before.

I will be wanting to play a full wizard during my next chance I get to be a player instead of a DM, and this just convinced me that I don't need to pursue multiclassing to make it fun.

@@OffbeatOutlaw The basic idea is that the echo I summon is one of my ancestors which fits into the AG barbarian. What I do with the wizard is try to pick spells that support that idea of my ancestors giving me abilities. So I chose stuff like identify (spirits telling me what it is), unseen servant (self explanatory). My personal favourite description is counterspell. What happens is that the caster hears a bunch of ghostly voices in their head which distracts them from their casting. Shame about the cursed sword I currently have that gives me disadvantage on all saving throws but it still works!

I played a warlock (celestial pact of the chains) aburation wizard that was a helluva lot of fun. Basically a porcupine with plenty of up casts for AoA. Add in some shocking grasps other excellent spells and ... un muggable / Great vid.

you know what you're thoughts are on magic items but one item that I think would be fun to consider is the Mizzium Apparatus. how would getting basically complete access to the spell lists of both the wizard and what ever you multi with affect this list.

Could you do one with Epic Leveling? Wizard is awesome but which other classes would you use in conjunction with 20 levels in wizard if the level cap was 36.
