This is too low in the comments. Needs more likes!
Good to see that there are still strategy / turn based games RPGs to be released.
If you liked Fire Emblem 3 houses, check out Lost Eidolon's, its not bad at all for an indie game (it looks like Fire Emblem with Dragon Age realistic style graphics) and it has almost the whole voice cast of three houses on it, and other coming out as I posted elsewhere here, is "Redemption reapers" which looks amazing.
Turn based games are FAR from dead. Its just that certain developers are trying to kill it, like Squaresoft. Dumb move on their part, as Persona 5, Octopath Traveler, Yakuza, and other recent popular games clearly show, while Final Fantasies stocks dropped 11 points. Action and turn based are TWO different genres, each with their own fans, who often dont like the other. Some just dont seem to understand this though.
i love turn-base JRPGs the most . so those are the type of games i looking forward to the most.
Engage was supposed to be a celebration for the 30th anniversary but was delayed due to covid
I was hoping to see Eiyuden Chronicles at number 1 and you did not disappoint. I'm so excited for its release that I got goosebumps watching your clip of it.
It looks like a pretty good year for JRPGs.
Your reviews got me hooked on the Trail series! Thanks a lot!
I love your channel. Best wishes for the next year!
I'm excited for those games as well, adding Atelier Ryza 3
Play Asia will be releasing physical versions for Suikoden with English support I believe, at least for the Switch version which I plan on getting.
I'm looking forward to see how the next Atelier trilogy turn out after Ryza having a trilogy by herself.
the power of thiccness
So looking forward to Trails To Azure and Reverie later on! Also keen on seeing how Fire Emblem turns out. Engage has me worried more than any F.E ever has.
Same on all accounts. The art style for the new Fire Emblem looks better than Three Houses, but the design for the main character is rather suspect. The summoning of past heroes makes it sound like a Gacha game which is so far removed from the series roots that it's hard to fathom how Fire Emblem has evolved to this point. I'm never a day one buyer as my backlog is huge and I'm cheap too, so I wait until a game is on sale months down the road for 50% off and the game breaking bugs have been patched. This one will be no different, but it will be interesting to see what others think of it.
More and more Preorders for the Suikoden 1&2 Collection are currently going live, so I think that it's pretty safe to assume that the game is getting a physical release.
I never knew they were up for pre-order and would definitely buy them physically especially if it had a collector's edition.
Trails of Zero and Azure is excellent, I liked the down to earth feeling.
Best trails games
is it that good? I'm a cs fan but is not a fan of chibi design
@@denyk142 They are by far better than cold steel character&story wise.
And tbh Cold Steel 3 and 4 are by far better if you've played them.
@@denyk142 Zero is necessary and more than fine, Azure is excellent. The "Chibi" Design like your call it is more because of the gameplay (it's almost half tactical RPG) and because of the consoles limits.
Wait wait wait FATE/Extra is getting a remake?!?! I’ve been waiting to play it for a long time, hopefully it comes to the west as well
Oh gosh! I’m so excited about Fuga 2 and the Suikoden 1 & 2 Remaster! I didn’t know about them until this video. Thank you so much for the excellent news!!
Granblue Fantasy is not mobile game exclusive to Japan. It has official English version for the rest of the world and you can play it with a browser like a Chrome.
What I don't like about Suikoden series is that if you won't (and it's hard to achieve during 1 playthrough) recruit all heroes you won't get great ending. They basically force you to use a solution and guides which destroy the pleasure of playing it.
Just today I saw Fuga on sale, i may pick it up thanks to you. I'm also waiting for FE, and additionally Atelier Ryza.
Eh even on sale it's way too expensive for a digital game IMO. If there was a physical version i would have bought it a long time ago but there's no way i'm paying more than 30€ (on sale) for a digital game. 20€ is my ceiling when it comes to digital games.
@@bladeofmird it's a full fledged game that only got a digital release cause the developers have self-published it, and they don't have the marketing budget of some AAA publisher for a physical version
it's easier for them to get their games out that way IMO, especially after pretty much ALL of their original games weren't financial darlings despite being very talented
@@bladeofmird the game it's great for what I'm seeing on the demo. And as what someone said, there's no physical version, and the sale on the eShop puts the game around 26 $, so if you're upset about the price you can check it now.
@@arikari3672 It's currently €39.99 in the European PSN store.
@@bladeofmird it's 26 on the North American Nintendo store tough
Looking foward to
-Granblue Fantasy: Relink
-Final Fantasy XVI
-Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
-Persona 3 Portable
-Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
-The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure
-The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie
-Like a Dragon: Ishin
-Stellar Blade
-Forspoken
Happy Christmas for you and your family and friends awesome video I in joy it
I'm excited for YS 10.
Best Action RPG. Hands Down.
Only combat better than it might be Punishing Gray Raven ... or Wuthering Waves...
Hey man, Blue Protocol is releasing 2023... i know its an mmo... its still a jrpg.
happy holidays man!!
Eyuuden chronicles got a function test on switch during the summer, I’m pretty sure I read it in their monthly Kickstarter updates. So I’m pretty sure it’ll come to switch.
I recognize the music at the end of the video :D it’s from Fate Extra for PSP
Good list. I didn't know about some of these.
i am 100% positive their will be a physical version of suikoden 1&2
but probably by limited run.. it seems konami don't like to pay extra to publish their games in physical format specially outside japan.. they don't even develop their own games they just let other studios do it and they just publish..
@@BL4CKF4NG yep by limited run hope to get a copy if it comes out
Definitely looking forward to the trails game since the crossbell arc is the only one i missed coupled with the physical release of eiyuden and so as fuga
I am looking forward to Eiyuden Chronicles, Suikoden, Trails, and Atelier Ryza 3. If Armored Core 3 comes out this year, I'm dropping all my other games.
Reverie is what Im the most hyped for
I totally forgot about suikoden's remaster. It looks beautiful
I'm playing through Trails From Zero right now and am very interested in Trails Into Azure too.
Where is octopath traveler 1 for psn
If they add a transgender character maybe Sony will allow the game on PSN. At least include a BLM shout-out.
Aaah, finally. I've been dry for a year, gimme JRPGs!!!
I've only played the Cold Steel games, but I'm still looking forward to Reverie. What do you think about Loop8 coming out in March?
The future looks great!!! ^_^
Aaaaaah! We have the same number one!!!
I was hoping FE would continue with the tone and storytelling of Three Houses, but oh well, Engage looks more gameplay-focused anyway. Also looking forward to Trails to Azure, after just getting Trails From Zero for Christmas. I have a lot of catching up to do with Trails and Ys...
I'm sure I heard somewhere that Fire Emblem Engage was originally going to be an Anniversary title, probably why there are heroes from most of the older games.
Never heard of Fuga, going to look more into that one
I played the first one earlier this year, and it is really, really good. Highly recommend it. If you're curious, play the first one, it's available right now and could use some love.
the games i wait for are in development, they are Armed Fantasia (Wild Arms successor) and Penny Blood (Shadow Hearts successor), hopefully both games will survive and get to a release point
I'll definitely grab Azure, though I'm so behind in trails games because I need occasional breaks from them due to their massive lenght.
Hey Eric, their is a SRPG coming out on several consoles that is releasing soon (Jan or Feb) called "Redemption reapers" that looks like what fire emblem would be if it took a darker direction. Check it out.
I just put them on my wishlist. Too many good JRPG games. ❤
I just finally got into the Trails games this year and finished Sky FC and Cold Steel 1 and am playing Cold Steel 2 right now. Absolutely in love with this series and can't wait to get to Zero and Azure. I am kicking myself for missing out on this one for so long. The story telling and word building are some of the best I have ever experienced from any JRPG series. Closet favorites coming out this year are Secret of Stars and Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes. And I just want to hear something about Granblue Fantasy RE link to know its still a thing. Looks awesome but we have heard nothing about it in years.
Couldn’t agree more about engage not looking like fire emblem and way too fanservicy, I guess it’s because it was meant to be an anniversary spin-off but it still has me skeptical as a fan of the more traditional games
I'm sure you will love it
I recently started playing some older rpgs that I missed out on and the Trails series is one of them. Still near the beginning of Trails in the Sky but hoping to be caught up by the time Azure comes out. I've been swapping between Trails and the older Final Fantasy games.
I'm excited for Trinity Trigger. As a big Mana fan I am interested in what this spititual successor has to offer.
oh my poor wallet but good t6o se some of the older games making a comeback i loved playing them the first time around so canty wait to see the differnce in the remake of them and to play them again great video as always love the channel so glad i found it as a big rpg fan and long in the tooth its good to see some of the oldies but goodies getting remakes for all those who never got chance to play them when they 1st came out they have something to look forward to
damn eiyuden looks great.. but surely cant wait for that octopath 2.. both are beautiful arts..
granblue fantasy isnt exclusive to japan tho
the original mobile game didn't release outside Japan, though there's some workarounds for those of us who wanna try it
I really hope they have releases of all Trails games in the West. Loved CS so much, that I beat the first two, 4 times each, twice on PS3 and PS4. One of the very few games I beat and instantly did NG+. Playing Zero right now and seems great also.
For me
Trails of Azure/Reverie
Neptunia sis vs sis
Atelier Ryza 3
a Nep Nep fan, I see
I am surprised there is no FF16 on the list. I know the Final Fantasy franchise has been losing its way for many years but it seems the new producer Yoshi-P is very reliable according to the fans.
I guess he just doesn't like hack and slash in JRPG. I mean, this is the reason why he doesn't like FF7R.
@@persona3rulez no, he loves ys
Problem is Mr Landon don't much like the final fantasy series
The thing about FF16 is that Tales of Berseria did it better lol
@@DaRaginLombax nah, bro, FF8 Remake was the best
I have Trails from Zero but kind of waiting for it to be closer to Azure releasing so I won't have too big of a gap between them.
Hey Eric, have you played Chained Echoes?
I am excited for Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes as well. With that and the remasters for Gensou Suikodens I and II, we Gensou Suikoden fans will be eating well in 2023.
Gran Blue Fantasy is the one I'm excited for, hope the delays aren't bad news.
Trails, Final Fantasy and GranBlue(if not delay) for me.
You forgot Legend of Nayuta, which is finally getting localized officially
I'm excited for Re:Link. Still playing the original GBF so I'm hyped for it when the trailer released a few years ago
I've ordered the Limited Editions of Reverie and Fire Emblem + Collectors of Azure - hope they are great!
We are in the year of The Legend of Heroes! I’ll also throw Ryza 3 and the One Piece JRPG as must pickups for me personally.
I just hope Octopath Travelers II has more party interactions than the original. Its sad that you only have kinda generic scenes available at bars and a few during specific chapters but no party interactions during fights or character actions.
Other people that have mentioned the game's release mentioned the developers announcing that there will be more cohesion between the party.
@@Razor5702 All I remember from the trailer was intertwined stories and campfires but not a lot of concrete examples yet.
Suikoden 2 is my first JRPG, played it in PS1. So now, I really cant wait for the remaster and Eiyuden. I’m also a big fan of Octopath Traveler, the only game I 100% a game.
Any idea if that Fate game will be on Switch?
Wo Long and Granblue are easily my most hyped for games atm
Can’t wait for fate extra record
I can’t wait for Fuga 2.
I have Fuga 1 on both the PS4 and Switch.
Also waiting for suikoden 1&2 HD.
And the eiyuden chronicles game too.😁
no ffxvi?
Surprise by the cold shoulder to the One Piece rpg in a few weeks. Hard agree on the trails and EC/Suikoden games.
Suikoden might release in March according to a Spanish retailer leak
Kind of hoping they release the trails in the Sky as a bundle so we dont have to wait for each installment.
Trails has made the jump in the west, there was no series that benefited more from the pandemic lockdowns than trails did. The incredibly long game scripts, the endless amounts of reading, suddenly that barrier became much smaller when everyone was in lockdown with nothing to do. I think a remaster of the sky trilogy is inevitable, the fact that Sky is the only set of trails games not available on all modern consoles is a drag that I expect will be remedied in the next few years. The economic case for a remaster of sky and a release on all modern consoles has never been higher.
I would buy each but would prefer a collection so no waiting to play them and could go right through the trilogy.
I want them all! 😁
I think Platinum Games is not a part of GBF Relink anymore, which somewhat explained the delays. It's just Cygames.
I remember reading they were only hired to do the combat gameplay and when they were done with that it was left to Cygames to finish it. That was between a year and 2 year's ago so not sure if that remained true. The gameplay shown so far looks pretty good for an action rpg.
Did you talk about Chained Echoes?
Millium's brother-in-law is the other character in Trails of Reverie
i can't wait for "octopath traveler 2" since i'm fan of octopath traveler 🤣 and i also lookin forward about "eiyuden chronicle", sounds interesting.
Sometimes I feel some sort of despair whenever I think how much time I'd need to actually finish my back catalog of JRPGs.
And yet they release new ones every year.
granblue is not exclusive to japan, its fully in english. Now paying might be a problem tho
Fuga is getting a sequel?? Sweet 💪
looking forward for Eiyuden game, i beat Eiyuden chronicles and i liked this fantastic game! also looking forward to Trails and atelier ryza 3. once you mentiones Fuga: Melodies of steel 2, i instantly liked the art you showed, so i wanted to try the first game, how good is the first one? keep up your amazing content, Erik!!
Granblue Fantasy Relink: Are you sure about that?
Craving for Suikoden II
French leaks say the Suikoden I & II will be out on March 9th, 2023.
I might think of getting Fate Extra Remake and I'm playing Suikoden II on the PS3
pretty sure there's an english release of the grand blue fantasy mobile game.
My body is so ready for Granblue Fantasy Re;Link 🙏🙏🙏
eiyuden gives me goosebumps
So your not waiting on Sea of stars?
FFXVI, FFVII Rebirth and KH4 is what im most excited
Boring
@@omensoffate I hope i'm wrong but i have a feeling that a lot of you guys (including Erick) don't want to say you're interested in games like FF because they are too mainstream and you would loose points for your reputation as "sophisticated" JRPG gamers.
Square Enix Fanboy.
Are the mainline Final Fantasy games even rpgs anymore?
@@omensoffate hey, is that you, Omen, from gamefaqs?
That would be awesome if they released suikoden 5 remastered someday. I had it for the ps2 but unfortunately sold it years ago when I got rid of my ps2 collection. Trying to rebuild my jrpg collection for the ps2 but this game is way too expensive now to get back!
excited for trails to reverie but haven't been able to finish CS4. Been dealing with burnout lately which prevents me from enjoying games unlike before. Maybe i'd rather watch the full cutscenes just to catch up
Definitely Trails is the most waited game for me
Can’t wait to see a new golden sun and ni no kuni 3 next year.
any solo char jrpgs?
I can't wait for the Shadow Hearts spiritual successor. The only downside is that it seems to be using a traditional turn-based combat system, as for legal reasons it probably can't use the Judgement Ring. I would have changed it to a pendulum combat system myself. Essentially the same as the Judgement Ring, except it being a pendulum.
....that and I could coin the phrase "the pendulum of fate is swinging". Which is based on the Guilty Gear X2 match start phrase "The Wheel of Fate is turning". Just something for myself lol.
suikoden remasters are not digital only tho
Suikoden 1 and 2 was already ported on PSP as simply Gensou Suikoden 1 & 2.....widescreen was implemented and 8 way direction control was introduced on that port.. but still in japanese SIGH...that is the one ive been waiting for so long very very long...i hope someday it gets an english patch as for me that is the version i really wanted most...to be with the same line with the PSX RPG's ported to PSP like Star Ocean First and Second Departure ,Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and Persona 1,2 and 3.. PEACE!!!!
