My game of the year was probably Sophie 2. Had high hopes for it as I really enjoyed the Mysterious series and it exceeded them. Harvestella was also a very pleasant surprise by having a much deeper story than I expected on the surface. Most excited next year for Reverie as it’s the only Trails release I haven’t played yet, Ryza 3 and Sisters vs Sisters as it’s the first true Neptunia game in years (last few have been collaborations or outsourced titles).

This was a great list. I'll be a bit of a pariah with my opinion, but Triangle Strategy stands out for me. It had serious themes, impressive voice acting, choices with weight, and all of this was contrasted with a bright, almost innocent looking world. I understand the dislikes for it, but since I still remember it in a year of other great titles says something about it.
Thanks for the video, and I look forward to more next year!

The best Jrpg for me this year was definitely Chained Echoes. Shame so many People seem so be overlooking it.
Harvestella was surprisingly good as well. Didn't like Sophie 2 as much as Ryza or Ryza 2, but still a good entry, and even though it had a lot of problems Xenoblade 3 was still really solid.

Honestly the couple of games I'm excited for in 2023 aren't all RPGS, but they are: The Wolf Among Us 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Diablo 4 (which is an RPG, just not a JRPG), just so many games across all genres coming out, it just appears 2023 will be another great year for gamers, no matter what your interest may be.

2022 was absolutely nuts for game releases. Of course, Xenoblade 3 is a big one for me, along with Star Ocean The Divine Force, Pokémon Legends Arceus, Scarlet and Violet, Sonic Frontiers and probably a few others that aren't coming to my head right now, plus a lot of games that look awesome that I just haven't gotten a chance to play.
On a side note, I highly recommend the original Final Fantasy VII, in my opinion, it still holds up, though the localization can be a bit iffy (it was 1997) the gameplay, story and artistry in the visuals are still just as great as they ever were

I'm glad to be watching a game of the year list that does not mention God of War Ragnarok or Elden Ring!!! For me the top JRPG was Star Ocean Divine Force and then probably Atelier Sophie 2. I have played so many games that are not JRPGs and so I have to say that the best game I played this year was Steelrising which is not a JRPG but everything about it was amazing and so I thought I would throw that in just because..... Anyway, thank you for another a year of great reviews and I hope 2023 is kind to you!

We already know that many RPGs will be released next year, and just mentioning the games that will be released physically we have...Forspoken, Final Fantasy XVI, One Piece Odyssey, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (the PS5 and Xbox Series versions), Trinity Trigger, Loop8: Summer of Gods, Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord, Mon-Yu, Record of Agarest War (the Switch version), The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, Void Terrarium 2, Monster Menu: The Scavenger's Cookbook, GrimGrimoire OnceMore, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (PS5 version), Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society, Atelier Ryza 3, Fire Emblem Engage, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Mugen Souls (the Switch version)...
I tried to be exhaustive...of course, more RPGs can be announced during the next year, and that long list only considers releases for America and Europe, not Japan. Right now, I'm interested in Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters, I'll get that game for sure and it's the only PS4 game I want to get right now. I can't wait.

Crisis Core was my favorite. Hadn't played it since it originally released on PSP and I enjoyed it way more than I even remember. Even ended up nabbing that platinum trophy!
Eiyuden Chronicles, Granblue Fantasy RE:Link, and Final Fantasy XVI have got to be my most anticipated games for next year. I'm incredibly stoked for the Suikoden Remasters too, but as I've been through those games approximately 1000 times each I'm a little more excited for Eiyuden.
I'm hesitantly excited for Rebirth. I did not like Remake, mainly because it wasn't a Remake and that rubbed me the wrong way, but now that I know what those games are I think I'll enjoy Rebirth more and I'm excited to try and am hopeful.
And I don't care what anyone says and this is honest, I honestly cannot wait for Ever Crisis!! I'll happily play that on my phone and I can't wait to do it!

Shockingly to myself, I dropped Sophie 2 (at least for now) because the single trick of the weather mechanic got old and annoying. Having to maybe go back to the atelier to make more weather-changing items made it even more annoying. It became a "game" of seeking out the weather-changing stations, seeing which weathers changed the environment, checking the map for "proper" progress to the goal, then finding the next weather station. Constantly checking a map isn't fun to me.
That said, I have high hopes for Ryza 3.
But the game I'm really waiting for is Fire Emblem: Engage. While none of the characters really stand out to me yet (maybe Rosado), I'm sure at least one will win me over.
I definitely look forward to your review of FE: Engage! Thanks for the effort here!

Even though this game came out in 2020, I was finally able to play 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and it's going to be one of my favorite games of all time (not Top 5, but definitely Top 10). As easy as the fighting as it was (because I set it that way), it was still the weakest part of the game for me and gameplay is just as important to me as the story. Story is phenomenal though, I loved it! I am still needing to finish Rune Factory 5 though.
As far as JRPGs I am interested in, unless you count Zelda's next game (I personally don't because of the art style), there aren't anything else that fall within that genre, however 2023 is stacked for me for I plan on getting Spike Chunsoft's next mystery game, Rain Code and I also plan on getting the farming sim, Story of Seasons: It's a Wonderful Life. I still want to get a few farming sim games that are out now in early access on Steam. But Zelda's the big game for me.
I am kind of hoping that sometime next year we'll get more info on KH4. I do expect to hear info on Missing Link though since I think that's coming out next year.
