You never have to apologize for atelier games.
💖
It makes me very happy people outside Japan had an opportunity to experience Marie last year and I hope it means the rest of Salburg and Gramnad games could end up getting the same treatment as well, since they are some of my favorite Atelier games! In the meantime though, I'm happy to see those characters in Resna.
I've also been playing through the Trails series last year (and before that) and I agree that Azure is definitely a great entry in it. Nayuta is one game I haven't played yet though so maybe this year would be a good time for it. Thank you for great videos as always!
I would love all of Salburg and Gramnad! Resleriana has been a great way to meet the other girls (I love Judie!), but I would really love if we could play their games :33
Thank you for your comment, and if you play Nayuta, I hope you enjoy it! :))
Xenosaga 3 is easily my favorite JRPG that I have played last year. This year I’ve already started FF7 Remake and I’m liking it so far.
Great list JJ !! Love hearing about these games you enjoy !!
You can never have too much atelier! ❤
The Mariemake is pure wonderful magic.
I love hearing people enjoy that game! I agree ^__^ 💖
My overall GOTY being Pikmin 4 for 2023 and Favorite RPG being The Legend of nayuta which very much surprised me
Atelier Ryza 3 is my favorite game of 2023 too. The exploration and giant world were incredible and I never wanted it to end. Atelier games are the best.
Amen ^__^
My favorite games of 2023 are:
-Hi Fi Rush
-Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
-Atelier Ryza 3
-Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
-Final Fantasy XVI
-Eternights
-Lies of P
-Crymachina
-巫兎 - KANNAGI USAGI -
And I'm looking forward to playing:
-Rise of the Ronin
-Stellar Blade
-Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
-Metaphor ReFantazio
-Reynatis
-Black Myth Wukong
-Tsurugihime
2023 will go down as the Yakuza year for me. I finally did what I had told myself I'd do for so long - finally played all the updated Yakuza games. Both Kiwami games, Zero, Like A Dragon, Y6, and both Judgment games, and Gaiden. Not sure I'm gonna ever touch the PS3 remasters of 3, 4, and 5. And still want to play Ishin. What a series to binge. Now that I'm done with Infinite Wealth, I hope to get to Granblue Fantasy and Persona 3 remake. Enjoyable video as usual, thanks for the channel. Hope you have a good, fun, enjoyable 2024.
Really looking forward to getting to Ryza 3 whenever i can cause your review on it and this video alike has me wanting to dive in and finish Ryza's story immediately lol
For my personally my favorite JRPG of 2023 was Octopath Traveler II! It took me by storm and i was enamored from the get go! From the gorgeous HD-2D art style, to the music, the combat, the characters and the world alike! One of the best JRPG's i played in a while, and i were able to get to Trails to Azure that would've been up there too i'm sure!
As always, stellar work Tara :)
I absolutely need to get to Octopath 2 myself sometime, it’s up there in a lot of people’s picks! :3 thank you as always, and I’ll look forward to hearing how you enjoy Ryza 3 when you get to it ^__^
Great list, always look forward to these types of videos to get some more insight into games. I totally get that a list is your list, and although I may not enjoy the choices from a play perspective (or I should say might not) still great to see the breakdown behind these fantastic looking games. 2023 Brought so many amazing games, and 2024 is shaping up for much more of the same, so looking forward to seeing what this years list will look like when it does get done. Thank you for yet another incredible video, love checking out when a new video drops, and looking forward to the next awesome piece of content you have planned for us, no matter what it is. Hope you're well and have a great day. Cheers everyone.
my top 5 games of 2023 were
5: persona 5 tactica
4: ghost trick
3: like a dragon Gaiden
2: trails to azure
1: star ocean second story r. i never got around to playing Ryza 3 but i will one day Dammit!😂😂nice list Tara and happy gaming as always.
great top, in the same way I think that if I had finished Trails to Azure last year this would be my favorite game, so I give this place to Persona 4 Golden which I was able to try thanks to its re-release, being a truly wonderful experience. This year there is so much that is to come and so much that has already arrived that I feel like a child in a candy store, I think one of the games I am most looking forward to is trails through daybreak, although first I have to go through Cold steel and reverie
I have all 3 Ryza games but still haven’t played them. I’m
Busy with Persona 3 Reload for the foreseeable future and then there is FFVII Rebirth. And I stopped Star Ocean The Second Story R to play Persona and need to go back to that as well. Not to mention my back catalogue that is so big that I’m running out of shelf space 😅
Welcome to the backlog club.
I was playing a lot of games last year lol. I managed to blaze through Trails to Azure, Cold Steel 4, and Reverie and enjoyed each one. I also managed to recomplete Legend of the Dragoon, one of my all time favorites; but also got through Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable. I think I generally enjoyed Azure the most out of all the games I played last year, quickly followed by Dragoon.
This year has a lot of great games coming out and I'm greatly enjoying Persona 3 Reload and can't wait to get into Granblue Fantasy, Eiyuden, Trails through Daybreak, Ys 10 and Fantasy Life i !!
I can't really give a top 5, as most RPGs from 2023 are still sitting in the backlog for me, but I do have to give a shout-out to Star Ocean The Second Story R, an amazing remake of one of my favorite games.
Also, it was the year I finally finished Final Fantasy VI, the game that got me into RPGs, and Tales of Vesperia, which makes me really happy
Great list JJ! I appreciate you covering Resna so much because I would not have heard of it otherwise. That being said I found that the gotcha mobile game format is still something I can't really get into even if it's based around a franchise I enjoy. I'm going to have to put Ryza on my to play list for sure.
I did pretty well for the JRPGs last year, but the 2023 ones I touched were FF16, and Octopath 2. (I also finished Crisis Core which released in December 22, and Sea of Stars). I haven't finish Octo...yet. But I loved the world-building in FF16 - even though the gameplay/story ratio is poorly paced in many places. I played a few other older RPGs too.
I'm playing FF7 Rebirth right now, and hope to get to Shin Megami Tensei V and Metaphor Re: Fantazio. But I also wanted to play Granblue Fantasy, and Persona 3 Reloaded, and Sand Land. Siiiiigh, so little time.
My favorite JRPG of 2023 was FFXVI because it was so immersive and I enjoyed all aspects of it. There were other games I really enjoyed as well such as Trails in to Reverie, Fate/Samurai Remnant and Monochrome Mobius. Other than FF7 Rebirth I am not sure what is coming out this year that I am super looking forward to. Maybe Trails into Daybreak.
Great choice; I just started FF7 Rebirth which has very much confirmed I need to get into XVI as well because even just from a cinematic perspective, I know it will be fantastic lol
Great choices, pretty much every title you mention I’d love to spend more time with, and I’m also very much anticipating Daybreak :) a good 2023 and a good year this year I’m sure! :)
This might be my favorite top games of 2023 list I've seen if only because of how unique it is!
Ive yet to hear anyone say they liked Crymachina, let alone say its better than Crystar which ive seen a lot of people enjoy and consider it to have the stronger story of the two. Those opinions put me off from picking up Crymachina but seeing your list reminds me of how different opinions can be.
Ive also seen a lot of people down on Ryza 3 despite it having great reviews on metacritic! Maybe they were burned out on atelier games or played it at a bad time so im glad to see it gets a number 1 spot for you. Ive also yet to play Ryza 3 as im in the middle of 2 but once again your list reminded me try things for myself.
Thank you so much! I knew my list would be a little different (and with a lot of Atelier lol), so it means a lot hearing that :3
Atelier Ryza 3 is really undoubtedly the best entry in the trilogy for me, but they were releasing the titles yearly then, so yeah, burnout could be possible for sure (and everyone’s tastes are different of course :3) I hope to make more people play all the games on this list cause I love them all so much :D haha
Thanks for watching! ^__^
Nice top 5 of atelier games of 2023 XD
You're welcome! :D XD
That's the main problem i have with Ryza battle system, even in the first one. It's hard to get back the flow of battles.
Maybe it's getting older who does that, i don't know.
From what i record, i'm not sure i finished ryza 2. I didnt buy ryza 3.
But i'm kinda sad about since i played all atelier since rorona vanilla.
As for Resliana, the more the time passes, the more i enjoy this gacha game. However we need that update to even all character to the same lvl as your main party.
It's getting very hard to progress, and i don't have enough to build up most of my cast. For now i can even like 6-7 char only.
Element and weapon type are so important to progress easier...
It's a shame that many people didn't enjoy Crymachina. I thought it was great, story and characters were the best aspect of it and the gameplay sadly got repetitive towards the end for me.
Also that Soundtrack is such a mood.
That soundtrack is a mood indeed, I put it on sometimes still :3 good to hear your thoughts; can understand it being repetitive as it did follow patterns throughout. If they could strike the balance between good game flow and twists, I think the next one could be even better (especially with another Sakuzyo soundtrack!!) :))
I haven't played atelier yet but it's definitely on my list to play seems like they will be right up my alley . I'm gonna start with atelier Sophie an atelier ryza series. An trails is my all time favorite series
if you start Mysterions series (Sophie, Firis, Lydie and Suelle, Sophie 2) you better stick to it in the release order. Becasue even tho Sophie 2 takes place between Sophie and Firis, QOL and gameplay differences are so different that it would be hard to come back to Firis and Lydie/Suelle.
@@rumotuI agree with that. While story wise Sophie 2 takes place before Lydie & Suelle (and even before Firis, but I am not sure about that), the references to other games in Sophie 2 are very loose and very scarce (apart from the original Sophie of course) and thus the whole game can be seen as a kind of side story. So indeed it's advisable to play Sophie 2 after the original trilogy...
Here's my own personal fave JRPG list as you can see we share the odd thing:
1, Octopath Traveller II
2, CRYMACHINA
3, Atelier Marie Remake
4, Atelier Ryza 3
5, Fire Emblem Engage
That looks like a JRPG Jungle list xD
I specialize in them :D 💖
Amazing list!!
Thank you! :))
@@JRPGJungle maybe im gonna try atelier marie
If you do, I hope you enjoy it :D
I'm sad that I only had the time to complete only one game last year :sob:
It was Fear and Hunger 2: Termina, which was good! But I wanted to play more!
I'm hoping to get through a lot more of my backlog this year! Right now, I'm going through Atelier Ayesha and the plan ruiner known as Palworld. Hoping to get through Infinite Wealth and FF7: Rebirth soon!
I'm not like I play many video games, but I felt CryMachina's stanslation quality to English was good as just a-nya-ther Japanese opinion.
I’m currently playing Ryza 3 on switch my 3 big complaints are that the plot doesn’t conclude the first game plot which makes second game disconnected somehow besides flashbacks, it introduces 3 more teammates on top of returning others and even worse Serri and clif don’t return despite them hinting it (I remember cause I finished Ryza 2 this month start), and finally they made dumb marketing decision to sell multi outfits for just two weeks so now if I wanted the summer version I would need to play new game + if the outfits became available again.
Wow, seems like Ms. Tara likes some yuri (Crymachina). Great list! Although @kisekinut absolutely hates Resleriana. But I'm happy it was (finally) released in English. Thanks and look forward to the next video!
I saw haha I am glad he gave it a chance though, not many people covered it!
As for the CRYMACHINA, I did really like its relationships haha although it's definitely yuri-leaning, I do also like that they were a little open to interpretation too (whether they are family or romantic, although I would think the latter). With that or stuff like Blue Reflection, I don't really mind any romance as long as it's tasteful haha :))
@@JRPGJungle While sometimes it seems like you're sort of "close hold" on some games you review (obviously your prerogative, and I think sometimes you get codes but can't publish a review until a certain date), might you have on your calendar Unicorn Overlord (nonsense name if I ever heard one)? Dunno if it qualifies as a JRPG but seems close. It looks like an interesting blend of different genres (RTS, RPG, FE-like tactics). I'd be interested in hearing your studied opinion if you offered one.
At any rate, thanks for the pleasant conversation. Best of luck on the next video!
I actually was hoping to get to the demo of Unicorn Overlord yesterday, but this video took a little longer than expected (that, and I prioritised getting to FF7R2 lol)
I hope to get to it today; the food footage in the Direct sold me on it a little lol I probably won't talk about it for a while (probably JRPGs I Played in March) unless it inspires me to make a whole video about it, but if I play it, I'll be sure to give it a mention :)) thank you too!
@@JRPGJungleI can agree about CRYMACHINA (I loved the somewhat related Crystar too). Some people do not seem to like it, but I loved it. That said - I am a bit of a sucker for yuri-like games. For some reason those romances are far more tasteful. Don't ask me why. That's the reason I really disliked Blue reflection Sun, with a male protagonist where all girls from the previous games where drooling over. It felt like a betrayal of the very core of those previous games.
Sadly I am fully with The Kiseki Nut about Resleriana. Sorry about that. I really don't like the direction the Atelier franchise is going, especially when you consider Resleriana is seen as a main title (it even got a "official" A25 number) in stead of a spin-off. It scares the hell out of me. Hell - I even restarted playing the series, starting with Atelier Rorona DX on the PC, to forget about it (talking about irrational)...
And Marie Remake is just a adorable game. I had a lot of fun with it, and planning to replay it very soon (After finishing Granblue Fantasy)...🙂
Seeing Marlone and Mu in Resna it hurts me that they have chosen to make the remake in chibi mode, what missiles they have xd
Every year I expect 3 new Atelier titles per year (count DX too) but this year seem unlikely. We have only one new : Resleriana English version. If no new another title, I will be very sad.
Completely agree. Resleriana does not feel like a "real" Atelier game for me. I also feel sad about it...
something tells you're an Atelier fan
What? Really? No Kidding! How did you came to that conclusion?
Just joking of course...😁
Rank Atelier games? :3
Definitely one day! I have the crazy think in my brain where I feel the need to have played absolutely every single mainline entry before that (Including the old/JP ones lol), but I really do intend to play all this series one day, so at that time, I will! :)
@@JRPGJungleOoof - That are a LOT of games. Lucky enough some are ported to a newer system, and some are playable in a emulator. So it's not an impossible task, but it IS a lengthy one for sure. I wish you good luck with that. I am sure you will have fun with those oldies...
Lol "that year isn't getting any younger at this point"
It’s getting older by the second 😅
