I don’t have headaches often, but when I do they are killers. My favorite blend is industrial strength and contains Wintergreen, Birch, Lavender and Peppermint. I like the blend in today’s presentation for what seems to be a bit less than my sledgehammer approach to headaches. I plan to make up a batch and try it first when the next headache arrives. Thank you Karen, for yet another beautiful recipe and such a thoughtful, intentional presentation!
Your blend definitely sounds like a powerhouse combination of oils, and I can imagine it works very well for relieving headaches! We hope you'll circle back and let us know how it goes when you try our blend. Thank you for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback 💜
I put these EOs into an inhaler for my headaches. I don't get them often, but sometimes they can be quite fierce and this blend works amazing!!! When I feel a headache first coming on, all I need to do is take a whiff of peppermint, like you said, Karen, and that takes care of it!!!

That's a great suggestion! In the meantime, Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is great for this! We suggest making an inhaler with Rosemary-about 8-10 drops, and then add about 5 drops of one more oil that resonates with the person. Whatever aroma the person loves or feels a connection with from the past. This might be a citrus, a conifer, or a floral oil. 💜 We'd love to hear how it goes if you try it!
You can use jojoba or any other carrier you love (like sweet almond oil, argan oil, or baobab oil). 💜 We love suggesting Trauma Oil because it offers such significant support for calming pain and swelling.
Essential oil substitutions always depend on the issue at hand, the intention of the blend, the person’s age, health, preferences… and so many other factors! For this particular blend, you could substitute Spike Lavender with Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea). 💜
I am terribly allergic to Peppermint and Lavender (I do not know about Spike Lavender). They turn me inside out with headache, nausea and vomiting. So this recipe is a no go for me.
Sorry to hear you have a bad reaction when using these oils! Here is another blend that we love that does not include Spike Lavender or Peppermint that you could try instead: 6 drops Frankincense Oil (Boswellia carterii) 3 drops Lemon Oil (Citrus limon) 4 drops Black Spruce Oil (Picea mariana) 2 drops Hemlock Oil (Tsuga canadensis) Here's the link for the full recipe: www.aromahead.com/blog/essential-oils-for-headaches-nl
I just bought lavender because I heard it's the most popular. I add it to my air purifier, but the scent is awful. Is it me -- why does lavender smells so awful to me?/
Sadly, sometimes that does happen. Aroma is such a personal preference - for each individual an aroma can be just perfect or not appealing. Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) might be a great alternative to try, as it contains many of the same therapeutic benefits as Lavender since both are rich in Linalool and Linalyl Acetate. However, the aroma of Clary Sage can be a bit softer. 💜
I’m so excited to try this recipe!

Hi, thanks for the great info, I don’t have trauma oil at hand, what can I substitute for it?
You can use jojoba or any other carrier you love (like sweet almond oil, argan oil, or baobab oil). 💜

What can you substitute for the lavender if you can't use it?
