I really miss your videos Andrea and Aromahead is not the same without you. Your knowledge, presence, wisdom and generosity is greatly appreciated and very much missed. This pain relief blend looks amazing. Looking forward to making it. Thank you. 🍊 🍋
I started watching for the blend, but then I became so relaxed listening to your voice I sort of forgot the reason I was here. Great videos. Gratitude!
I needed to make this blend today unfortunately I did not have any trauma oil on me. So I filled my 60ml PET bottle 3/4 of the way with sweet almond oil and the rest with aloe vera gel. I then doubled the essential oils that Andrea suggested. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of the smell of ginger oil so I added 10 drops of peppermint essential to the mix. Instantly when I massaged this mixture into my sore and aching muscles, the pain started to ebb away.
I made this today and used it on my neck and shoulders, which have been painful for a about 2 weeks. It's amazing, the pain is easing after about an hour .😀😀
Hi andrea I just want to tell you thank you thank you for all the knowkedge for all our health problems my mom had a car accident and her l5S1 disk broke and is the one that make you twist bend move she had 2 back surgeries 6 screws a knee pain that nobody knows why she had shots 5 years a lot of pain she's not the same happy mom this took her 9 years of her happiness I am ordering all the oils and I am sure it's gonna help her once again thank you
Denise, I am sorry to hear about the hardships your mom has experienced these past few years, I know it is so difficult to see the people you love living with constant pain. It's wonderful that you are looking to natural ways to support your mom. This blend is soothing, and encourages circulation which can offer some relief. Let us know how it goes.
Wow!! I have only ever poured trauma oil directly into either a cobalt blue or brown bottle so I have never seen its magnificent color. Thank you for demonstrating the rich, luscious nature of Trauma Oil. This blend couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I spent all day yesterday cleaning and re-organizing a small garden shed. I could barely move at the end of the day. As you can guess, I plan to make this blend immediately and use it with happy effect. Thank you again for EO blends that are both beautiful and useful!
I'm so glad you were able to experience the beautiful color of Trauma Oil in this video! It's truly delightful. ❤️ How great that you were also able to make this blend after a long day in the garden too. Hope it offered you some much needed relief!
Hi Andrea, I have to write this comment. First of all, I want to say thank you and let you know how much I love your videos. Now, about this chronic pain massage oil. WooHoooo!! I can't remember the last time I had a day that was pain free. I have 2 ruptured discs in my back that cause very serious sciatic discomfort and I also suffer from arthritis in my basal joints (the base thumb joint). Very painful. I wanted something a little healthier than popping Ibuprofen in my body 3 or 4 times a day. I wanted to try this recipe, but more specifically, the trauma oil. About 4 weeks ago I sent an email to Customer Service at Aromatics International, as the Trauma Oil was out of stock. They immediately responded to assure me that it would be another couple weeks as the process of infusing the oil was taking place and it could not be rushed. Well, I received my Trauma Oil last Saturday and immediately made this recipe. No substitutions. After only 4 days of use, (only using on my hands), I can tell you, that while I still have some tenderness in my joints, the pain in my hands is so minimal. I am just so grateful. (tears of joy flowing). Please keep sharing all of your recipes, your compassion and your love of EOs and Aromatherapy. By the way. This is not the first or even the second recipe of yours that I have tried. The others are lovely and made a difference, but the impact that this particular recipe has made in my life, in such a short time, is so huge I needed to share. Thank you, again. Tracey
Wow, this is such a beautiful and inspirational post and you just made my day, Tracey! I'm beyond joy that this has made such a difference in your life. Thank goodness you've found some relief without the need for OTC analgesics.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Can't wait to try this once I can afford to gather the ingredients/supplies! I've noticed eating organic whole food and aromatherapy have done more for my chronic pain/fibromyalgia than all the Meds I used to be on! Hi Aleem! If you have Arnica oil, Calendula oil, and St. John's Wort oil you can make your own Trauma oil by blending equal parts of the infused oils together: 1/3 St. John’s wort infused olive oil, 1/3 arnica infused olive oil, and 1/3 calendula infused olive oil. 💜 You can find some additional information about Trauma Oil here: blog.aromahead.com/what-is-trauma-oil-and-three-ways-to-use-it-nl
Hi Denise! We always recommend having a situation like nerve tooth pain assessed by a dentist. In addition, some people find it comforting to apply hydrosols to the area. Here's a trio you can try using like a mouthwash. (Rinse with the hydrosol, then spit it out.) 1. Helichrysum hydrosol can help calm pain. (Helichrysum italicum) 2. German Chamomile hydrosol can be soothing for inflammation. (Matricaria recutita) 3. Peppermint hydrosol be comforting for infection and inflammation. (Mentha × piperita) Applying this chronic pain blend externally in the area of discomfort such as along the jaw line or cheekbone area may offer some soothing relief.

Hi Maximumsatan! I have a blend with Peppermint and Black Spruce for pain relief. Both oils are wonderful to help reduce inflammation and offer a soothing, cooling effect. Thank you for sharing your recipes! I'm wondering if this blend will be appropriate for nerve pain, such as sciatica? I'm not sure I should use a warming oil for this because the pain itself feels like burning at times. What would you change if anything for a burning, prickly sciatica pain? Thanks!
Hi Sehohe! Trauma Oil can be very helpful for this easing the sciatica pain. We like the combination of 5 drops Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) and 12 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) in 1 oz (30 ml) of Trauma Oil. Also, the best thing we know for sciatic pain is stretching to relieve the pressure on the nerve. 💜 www.aromatics.com/products/trauma-oil
Either method is acceptable. I prefer the sunlight method because it captures the energy of the sun but in the winter months, heating the oil/herbs works just fine.
If you don't have spike lavender (Lavandula latiafolia) you could substitute lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). They are a bit different in their therapeutic properties but lavender will work in helping to reduce pain and inflammation, Anna.
Trauma Oil is incredibly useful for those nights when my fibromyalgia pain flares up. It helps my body calm and helps me sleep. I used this recipe and modified just a bit with a little bit of turmeric essential oil. I massage my entire body with it.Smells great and it works, for the most part. As fibromyalgia is neurological, we can only work with what we have as remedies, and this does just fine!
Kathleen - I love to use turmeric essential oil. Did you add it to this recipe or substitute it. How many drops did you use for your modification ? Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your experience with trauma oil, Kat! I love that you've added tumeric essential oil too! That oil has great anti-inflammatory properties and the smell is devine
Andrea Butje, My sister had a work related injury to her shoulder almost two years ago. She was sent to physical therapy on two separate occasions and many doctors who didn't see anything wrong so chucked it up to it basically being all in her head. It wasn't about well over a year of this battle of her saying something is wrong and therapy is NOT helping that she finally got exploratory surgery where they found she had a huge tear in her in her posterior labrum that attached elsewhere on her shoulder (hence why her shoulder would literally just slide all over the place on its own), and it took three staples to close it up. After surgery and the weeks it had to spend in place to heal, she was sent for more physical therapy to regain her range of motion and strength, but because of the initial trauma and then the year and a half of additional trauma done to it, she has a frozen shoulder. Physical therapy has helped but she still has a long way to go. My question is: would you say this blend is the best way to help in her progress or do you have any other suggestions for her shoulder? Also if this is or if you recommend something else, how often should I message them on her shoulder? Sorry for the long rant, but I thought it might give you a better picture of her predicament and HATE seeing her in discomfort (pain a lot of the time) on some level every moment of every day!
Wow, Kotanko21, this is such a heart saddening story. I can't imagine how frustrating and painful that was for your sister and even for you as the observer. I would definitely try this blend with her shoulder rehab. I might apply it 3-4 times a day for a few weeks and depending on how she is responding reduce it down to 1-2 times a day after that time. Please let me know how she makes out! Sending healing thoughts her way.
Denise Acosta it's definitely worth a try. Since each situation is unique the degree of relief is very individual and can vary depending on the person.
She had two back surgeries and 6 screws she made it and it didn't help she had a car accident the l5s1 disk dissapear and the use stem cells but she's always in pain
Hi Andrea Love all your recipes 😊 Does St John's wort have the same contraindications when applied topically as it does when taken orally? i take loads of meds for fibromyalgia and bipolar and a few others. Taken orally it seems to interact with everything! I'd love to try some natural pain relief. could you do some blends specifically aimed at Fibromyalgia pain? Also do you have a recipe for the trauma oil? Thanks x
There are no contraindication for using trauma oil topically like you see with ingesting the oral preparation, Grace. This recipe would work fibromyalgia pain. If you decide to use it, please let me know how it works for you.
There are many wonderful companies. We like to recommend buying from companies that import directly from the distillers, that test every batch of oil with GC/MS, and that share the batch specific GC/MS reports with their customers. This ensures quality and demonstrates accountability. Here are a few we can recommend: Aromatics International - www.aromatics.com Essential Elements - www.essentialelementsstore.com Florihana (Europe) - www.florihana.com/en Aliksir (Canada) - www.aliksir.com You can read about GC/MS testing here: blog.aromahead.com/2009/12/04/essential-oil-industry-standards-aromatics-international-supports-gcms-testing
Robin, each extraction method with change the aroma of the oil because it is allowing certain components to cross over. If you would like your ginger essential oil to smell the most like its natural form (root) then CO2 extraction would give you that.
Just made this without the bulk pepper BUT ordered and will add when it arrives. I’m finally using my trauma oil from you 🎉 My question.... how many drops or amount to shoulder with tendinitis? Thank you 😀
Hi Dawn! Give the blend a gentle shake then begin with a pea-size amount in the palm of your hand and massage it into the shoulder area. Let us know how that goes!
Loving your information. I have also been studying your aromahead institute, I am curious on your thoughts about only using certified organic oils? I am willing to spend the money on the best oils, I'm just confused on how to choose.
This is a great question, Lisa! Using organic oils is so important because pesticides can sometimes 'come over' in the extraction process. Using essential oils is all about approaching health in a more natural way to support the wellness and we wouldn't want an oil that contains an toxic chemicals like pesticides. I hope this helps.
Hello Andrea so grateful for you kindness and support for putting this videos together, so useful... .. do you think using arnica oil, calendula oil, and and St. john's wort extract will have the same effect as using fresh flowers or trauma oil? I live in Europe (England) and the cost of postage to England is expensive ($48)
good evening Andrea. I finally received all my trauma oil ingredients and the essential oil required. it was heaven after applying the mixture to my soreness. apart from easing my pain it also helped me to sleep beautifully. besides, my children also have their own portion of 10ml that they take to every training, tournament or championship. I am so delighted and grateful to have come across your video. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wonderful experience.
Performance, you can use dried arnica and calendula to infuse into your fatty carrier and then add St. John's wort essential oil. I will sometimes do this when I don't have any fresh SJW flowers to infuse because it is out of season here. Please let me know how it goes!
Great question! Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia) and Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) contain some different chemical components that differentiate how we might think about using each oil. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is very calming. The esters in it contribute to its antispasmodic effect. Whereas Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia) contains some of the ketone camphor, and that contributes to its decongestant effects. Here's a link for more information: blog.aromahead.com/2016/04/18/lavender-spike-lavender-difference

I don't have trauma oil or spike lavender, can I use sweet almond oil and lavender (lavandula angustifolia)? I'm planning on ordering the trauma oil but I want to make this blend asap :)
Andrea Butje Hello I don't have spike lavender oil but I do have camphor oil and regular lavender oil would it work to use those two oils as a substitute?
Hi Andrea always love your videos May God bless you for sharing recipes from His Garden My grand daughter 11years old just sprained her ankle We did the RICE method. Do you have a recipe for her condition plz Love n light Peace be on YOU
I'm talking about the recipe for chronic pain that you did in the above video. I have bursitis in both hips and goes down the outside if my thighs to knees.
Neroli/Petitgrain Co-Distill (Citrus aurantium var amara (Flowers and Leaves)), Bergamot Mint (Mentha citrata), you can use either of these oils in place of neroli. I think you must be talking about another video though. I didn't use neroli in this one.
I might use something like this, Brandi: 2 drops of bergamot (Citrus bergamia) 8 drops of Roman chamomile(Chamaemelum nobile) 2 drops of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) 1 ounce of unscented cream
I use the Trauma Oil with Lavender Bulgaria, White Pine Canadian And lemongrass from Nepal. my massage clients like the way it makes them feel afterwards.
The shelf life of this is based on the carrier of olive oil. When fresh this blend would be good for 12-18 months. Refrigeration would help to prolong this to perhaps 2 years.
Aromatics International carries Trauma Oil. Here's a link: www.aromatics.com/products/trauma-oil You can also learn more about trauma oil here: blog.aromahead.com/what-is-trauma-oil-and-three-ways-to-use-it-nl
I'm goons to try this for muscle stiffness due to old accident injury. Is there a drop recommendation for the 3 oils that make up the "trauma oil", if I don't find trauma oil in health shops near by?
Belinda, I generally don't make my own infused oils but when I do filtering the end product is essential to remove any sediment (remaining plant material). Using an unbleached coffee filter is super helpful.
I wanted to make this for my grandparents, but I have a question. Are there prescription medicine interactions involved with these oils when applied topically?? Thanks!
Andrea Butje Thank you for the information. Does that include the trauma oil being safe for use with drugs? I'm mostly worried about St. John's Wort in there because I know it has drug interactions if taken orally so I wasn't sure about topically.
All of the ingredients in this recipe are free of any contraindications with prescriptions medicaitons, Megan. Thanks for asking as this is so important with using essential oils when someone is on prescription meds.
I really miss your videos Andrea and Aromahead is not the same without you. Your knowledge, presence, wisdom and generosity is greatly appreciated and very much missed.

Thank you so much!!
Thank you Andrea I have one question this oil can help with her lumbar pain also?
Denise Acosta it's definitely worth a try. Since each situation is unique the degree of relief is very individual and can vary depending on the person.
She had two back surgeries and 6 screws she made it and it didn't help she had a car accident the l5s1 disk dissapear and the use stem cells but she's always in pain
Hi Andrea
Love all your recipes 😊
Does St John's wort have the same contraindications when applied topically as it does when taken orally?
i take loads of meds for fibromyalgia and bipolar and a few others.
I love your recipe's, can I use this for reflexology too?
sure! This would be a nice compliment to a reflexology session.

I get most of my blending supplies and essential oils from Aromatics.com, Michele.
Andrea, would it be helpful to add Tumeric to this blend? If so, how many drops? Thank you!
Thank you Andrea, appreciate your videos!
I was thinking of the tumeric also because it is said tumeric helps with arthritis.
You could add some tumeric. I might use 2-3 drops with this blend. Let me know how that works for you, Oldskool6-813.
Can you please recommend a location for purchasing quality essential oils?
There are many wonderful companies. We like to recommend buying from companies that import directly from the distillers, that test every batch of oil with GC/MS, and that share the batch specific GC/MS reports with their customers. This ensures quality and demonstrates accountability. Here are a few we can recommend:
Aromatics International - www.aromatics.com
Essential Elements - www.essentialelementsstore.com
Florihana (Europe) - www.florihana.com/en
Aliksir (Canada) - www.aliksir.com
You can read about GC/MS testing here: blog.aromahead.com/2009/12/04/essential-oil-industry-standards-aromatics-international-supports-gcms-testing
Does it matter how the ginger essential oil is processed? I've heard that steam distilled ginger doesn't smell so good : )
Robin, each extraction method with change the aroma of the oil because it is allowing certain components to cross over. If you would like your ginger essential oil to smell the most like its natural form (root) then CO2 extraction would give you that.
How can I buy trauma oil from you?
Marchella, I use Aromatics International for my trauma oil supplier. Their website is Aromatics.comwww.aromatics.com/products/trauma-oil
Just made this without the bulk pepper BUT ordered and will add when it arrives. I’m finally using my trauma oil from you 🎉
My question.... how many drops or amount to shoulder with tendinitis? Thank you 😀
Hi Dawn! Give the blend a gentle shake then begin with a pea-size amount in the palm of your hand and massage it into the shoulder area. Let us know how that goes!
Could you use regular lavender?
Yes, you can Donna.
Does Aromatics sell this trauma oil?
Yes they do Jason! You'll find it here with all the carrier oils and butters the sell: www.aromatics.com/collections/carriers
Can your use this chronic pain solution on your skin?
This is meant to be applied to the skin over that area where you might be experiencing pain.
If you don't have Ginger, could you use clove?
+Andrea Butje Perfect! I have that. Thank you so much! This is something I can really use. Love your videos and recipes! 💗
Cardamom (Ellettaria cardamomum) and Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) are two good substitutions for ginger, Jennifer.
Thank you for these videos! Any suggestions on where to buy Trauma Oil?

What is spoked lavender? Where did it cone from and what's it spiked with?😅
Great question!

Yes, Courtney, those two would work fine.
Jk Nm, you could use these two in place of the spike lavender.
Hi Andrea always love your videos

Is there an oil I can substitute for Neroli?
I'm talking about the recipe for chronic pain that you did in the above video. I have bursitis in both hips and goes down the outside if my thighs to knees.
Andrea Butje guess this is the wrong video... will get back to you.
Neroli/Petitgrain Co-Distill (Citrus aurantium var amara (Flowers and Leaves)), Bergamot Mint (Mentha citrata), you can use either of these oils in place of neroli. I think you must be talking about another video though. I didn't use neroli in this one.
Would you recommend using this for cramps associated with pms?
I might use something like this, Brandi:
2 drops of bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
8 drops of Roman chamomile(Chamaemelum nobile)
2 drops of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
1 ounce of unscented cream
Hi Stephanie Becerra

I use the Trauma Oil with Lavender Bulgaria, White Pine Canadian And lemongrass from Nepal. my massage clients like the way it makes them feel afterwards.
Thanks for sharing this combination, Japhiew!
You said I hope you never have to use it, what is the shelf life for this mixture? Does refrigeration prolong the oild blend at all?
The shelf life of this is based on the carrier of olive oil. When fresh this blend would be good for 12-18 months. Refrigeration would help to prolong this to perhaps 2 years.

I'm goons to try this for muscle stiffness due to old accident injury. Is there a drop recommendation for the 3 oils that make up the "trauma oil", if I don't find trauma oil in health shops near by?
Trauma oil in an infused carrier oil that the essential oils are mixed into. This is my resource for trauma oilwww.aromatics.com/products/trauma-oil
When I make infused oil I wind up with sediment. How do you get yours so clear and pure?
Belinda, I generally don't make my own infused oils but when I do filtering the end product is essential to remove any sediment (remaining plant material). Using an unbleached coffee filter is super helpful.
I wanted to make this for my grandparents, but I have a question. Are there prescription medicine interactions involved with these oils when applied topically?? Thanks!
Andrea Butje Thank you for the information. Does that include the trauma oil being safe for use with drugs? I'm mostly worried about St. John's Wort in there because I know it has drug interactions if taken orally so I wasn't sure about topically.
Andrea Butje awesome! Thank you! Love your channel 💖
All of the ingredients in this recipe are free of any contraindications with prescriptions medicaitons, Megan. Thanks for asking as this is so important with using essential oils when someone is on prescription meds.
Using the trauma oil topically is fine, unlike the oral herbal preparation that does interact with some medications.
