Regardless of what version you play, this game is a real hidden gem.
This game needs a sequel desperately.
It's considered a spin-off of the Ridge Racer series. Didn't definitively get a sequel to it as a sequel to the spinoff but there've obviously been others Ridge Racer title since, if that's what you mean?
Xbox showing off a bit of it's muscle here. Running in 480p at 60fps.
actually this game ran 60 fps on both. I only owned the PS2 version and it runs at 60fps as well.
@@TerraKun PS2 is running at 30 FPS. You can clearly see that when the race is going.
@898doffo yeah, but I own the game and on an original ps2 slim (silver) this game ran perfectly fine at 60fps. Was one of the few that did.
@@TerraKun do you have PAL version or NTSC version?
@Normie It was NTSC. Located in US.
You have to do a comparison with the Gamecube! Seeing the Gamecube port with these graphics was NUTS!
PS2 : Interlaced
XboX : Progressive
PS2 NO AA PS2 Not enough VRAM for textures
I had this game for the Nintendo GameCube back in generation 6 of the console wars. It was no Gran Turismo, but it was pretty good. Great video. Really love your channel man!
I really miss low resolution gaming, It used to be so fun back then.
I’m intrigued…how does low resolution make these games fun exactly?!

@@Ryuujin1078 It doesn't. The only difference is "charm" but even that's debatable.
Yeah I miss when gaming was unique and innovative. It's such a joke this last decade.
get a pc turn the graphics all the way down and be happy
I miss the days when consoles were different from each other now everything is the same.
Double the framerate on the XBOX. Nice.
how do we know that? Is there a counter in this video?
@@bmx7596 I can confirm it's constant 60fps on PS2 as well, having a NTSC-J Asian version with Japanses language.
@@sunray2818 60fps on ps2? Ok bud, i'll pretend i didn't see this comment
@@NetoKDM For someone who never played it on PS2 I don't see any reason to talk with you anymore. Plenty capture also showing it aloside with other people who tried it on their consoles.
@@sunray2818 UUHH UUH AH AAH!?
This game is also on GameCube, and it runs in 480p at 60 FPS just like the Xbox version (i have the GameCube's Component cable). The GameCube version is also compatible with the Logitech Speed Force steering wheel (which I also have, with the Lap Attachment and pedals), and includes Pac-Man Vs.
That GameCube experience currently has a steeper barrier-to-entry for me than PS2. I already have PS2s and have Logitech Driving Force GT USB wheels and pedals..... Did the PS2 release support USB force feedback on the Logitech driving force?
@@That_Handleit probably does, although namco couls have pulled the same as ridge racer V and not dupoort wheels in order to promote their own controller
@@minignoux4566 ,
What was the wheel pushed by NAMCO for PS2?
....In case RR-V or R: Racing Evolution don't support force feedback USB wheel(s)+pedals, did NAMCO have Dualshock/wheel rumble support? ... As for NAMCO racing on PS2, I've only ever played Ridge Racer V while using a handheld steering controller which has no rumble feature so I'd be interested in the immersion supported by NAMCO on PS2 when using steering wheels+pedals - whichever brand was supported.
@@That_Handle Let me try to explain the ps2 racing landscape.
The PS2 racing wheels were mostly made by logitech and are the wheel supported by most games, they are backward compatible with each other meaning that from the GTForce to the G27 included are all supported by every Logitech compatible game.
Meanwhile, Namco made a controller for the PS1 named the Jogcon wich was a classic controller with a small wheel where the sticks would be. It was still produced when the PS2 (and RR5) was released, while the original GTForce was not out yet, so Namco included support for the former.
I bought R:Racing recently and can now confirm it does work with Logitech wheels.
The Jogcon is only supported by Ridge Racer 4 and 5, there is no reason to get it.
Their is somthing off with his deinterlacing on the ps2 footage. It's cutting the framerate in half.
Xbox does look better due to 480p and improved shadows.
Xbox 60 fps 480p
PS2 30 fps 480i
Xbox of course wins
The ps2 game is also at 60 fps
A PlayStation loyalist I am..... but the Box has the edge on this one.
Compared to PS2, XBox has the Edge on almost everything, every game...
@@danielcpierrem Explain little to no fog in Silent Hill 2 and heavy framerate loss on MGS2, also the less spark and bloom effect on Burnout 3 Takedown. And also no racing game on Xbox has as much haze and smoke effect like Gran Turismo 3/4 did.
@@sunray2818, unfortunately, game devs didn't a good job on these games... But, XBox have much more processing power compared to Playstation 2...
@@danielcpierrem If you had a check about PS2's structure, you will know that although seemingly Xbox has much better processing power than PS2, PS2 has one advantage in particular which is vram fill rate, hence why it can happily process so much more fog/particle effect than other consoles including Xbox. Personally for the hefty size and weight of original Xbox I found PS2 is a much better bargain when it comes to space and performance, especially since I am using a super slim version which is about 1/4 size and weight of an Xbox.
@@sunray2818, tell me were you found this information... Voices from your mind? PS2 never can run a game like Doom 3, for example... XBox can...
A game that started development over the Dreamcast and ended over other systems.
I'm surprised Namco licensed Mpeg Softdec as middleware for the FMVs when both the Xbox and PS2 had built-in hardware decoders for MPEG2. Obviously this is how the PS2 plays DVDs and how the Xbox needed the controller to play DVDs.
Uh... actually, sofdec was just a highly optimized MPEG1 decoder. It has all the problem that MPEG1 video has, like color distortion of 4:1:1 subsampling etc.
The hardware MPEG2 decoder of PS2 had its limitations, but sofdec isn't something superior replacement. It just speeds up cross-platform development.
The XBOX doesen't have it's dvd reader built in, the software is included on the DVD dongle
I guess the major difference is reflections
Xbox - cars do reflect
PS2 - nope
Compare 8:11 you will see the exact opposite, Xbox version's reflection of sun is actually much less than PS2.
@@sunray2818the environment reflections themselves are higher quality
My Ps2 doesn't show the game this badly interlaced..is this being lined doubled badly? GSM displays this game much clearer in 480p

Btw,is this game plays similiarly to other Ridge Racer games? wanna play it but i'm sucks playing RR(those games feels a bit weird).
No it can be best described as a simcade based on RR physics.
How are these consoles connected? Are they both hooked up via Component?
anyone know how to make the game run in Progressive Scan on PS2? I tried using the old Triangle X method, but it's not working.
Need to verify that you were holding those down before the PlayStation 2 splash screen until game boots up.... (I had to verify and I do see that the game is listed as having progressive scan support but only for PS2's NTSC-U/C release.)
.... If still no dice, hold ❌️+⭕️ at the same juncture and see if that gets you going. Not all games will give you a confirmation menu once pressed buttons have activated progressive scan.
@@That_Handle thanks, I'll try that later.
Did you use a USB force-feedback steering wheel like the Logitech Driving Force GT? Does this game support USB force-feedback steering wheel of any kind?
I think this is the generation when it gets harder to tell apart differences between the ports. but it seems the xbox has a higher resolution, better lighting and shading?
car reflections too
@@therelaxingcgi both have car reflections, for me it looks like xbox have higher resolutions but the lighting and shadows are more accurate in the ps2 version
PS2 lacks anti-aliasing. Just look at all the jaggies on the spoilers on the PS2 version, compare to the smoothness on the Xbox.
That was one of many features that the GPU on the PS2 lacked. It was a fill-rate and polygon pushing beast but lack many standard features that were normal for GPUs at that time. Even the Dreamcast (released 2 years before) had anti-aliasing and texture compression that the PS2 GPU lacked. The Xbox and GameCube GPUs had many more features the PS2 lacked that the PS2 tried to overcome with it's high poly counts and fill-rates.
Indeed. One of the main problems was as the PS2 had sold so many times the amount of xboxs that development was on the PS2 then games were adapted for the xbox maybe throwing in better lighting or anti aliasing. It only really shows when you look at Xbox exclusives like Doom 3d, Chronicles of Riddick or Halo to see just how more powerful it was.
Similar to how spark glow and motion blur's bugged on the OG Xbox ports of Burnout 3 & Revenge, and Midnight Club 2&3 (although they improved the reflections in these games over PS2), they broke the heatwave effect. It might be a resolution thing bc most Ps2-to-OG Xbox ports increased resolution from 512x448 (or 640x448) to 640x480 and the effects didn't scale correctly, or needed to be rewritten to use the higher resolution.
3:56, 6:24, 10:08
Nah I think it's down to structure, PS2 has very very quick fill rate so blur and bloom and particles can be process without any significant stress, all the game you mentioned has to tone down these effects to make it run as smoothly on Xbox.
Será q rola uma comparação, Sega GT vs Forza no Xbox?
And the gamecube version?
Me parece 30 fps no PS2 e 60 no Xbox, é isto?
exatamente
vantagem do xbox é rodar em 480p enquanto o PS2 é 480i
No XBox são 60 FPS vs 30 FPS no PS2...
@@danielcpierrem
Verdade. Mas eu não entendo o por quê! Já que Gran Turismo 4 roda a 60 fps.
doing the "magic eye" on this, pretty cool if you only focus on the car itself and the HUD. Graphics wise Id have to go xbox (no real suprise) .Great game on both.
Gamecube, PS2 e Xbox. É possível?
Xbox for the WIN! Overall better performance...
obrigação.......
Ps2 cars shaders better and 30fps, xbox only 60fps better
Good game. I found it to be fun, but it seriously lacked replayability. The biggest problem, dat sawtooth wave for engines.
Yeah I think it's more like a fun spinoff to pick up, but in seriousness it's not really competing with other sim-oriented games, more like a experiment project.
fun fact i have a sealed copy of this game on xbox
They look similar
Please use blend, bob or adaptive deinterlacing for 480i (NTSC/PAL60)/576i (PAL50) footage in the future. Weave deinterlacing looks terrible and makes comparison harder than it should be
The Xbox could look better than this. Granted, it's a multiplatform game, but other developers would put effort into optimizing the game to better meet the demands or capabilities of the corresponding consoles.
Namco put no effort into optimizing this game for Gamecube (not shown here) and Xbox, so they look no better than the PS2 with the rather noticeable flickering and jagged edges. The only difference is that the PS2 has 30FPS with motion blur and Xbox has 60FPS without motion blur. The Gamecube appears to be the same as Xbox, but has the longest load times out of all the versions.
That's because Namco was swinging off Soby's nuts. Just look at how Namco left the GameCube and Xbox out in the cold with Soul Calibur 3. Namco thought they was smart making SC3 a PlayStation exclusive and it ended up being a failure sales wise. Not to mention, Namco chose to make it exclusively for the weakest hardware at the time. Pretty sure id SC3 was on the Xbox, and Namco used the hardware to it's fullest potential, it would embarrass the PS2 version.
Does the GameCube version still run at 60fps. Cause I’ll take that over 30fps.
Your assessment is correct @X2011racer
In my opinion Xbox looks a bit better and i am no expert in Video games but it seems XBOX has a better framerate.
Gawd the PS2 interlacing is horrible. Downright distracting to look at, Xbox wins simply due to bad interlacing on PS2. With that said you can tell this game was made with the PS2 as lead platform. Doesn't appear to be any difference between textures except for interlacing causing artifacts. Xbox distant geometry might be better as well, but hard to tell with all the interlacing going on. Both games AA solutions is pitiful. Xbox up FSAA, line aa, and MSAA it could do effectively at 2X not enabled on this title. I guess reflections are tad bit better on Xbox along with sound as well.
Xbox original only has very little game enabled with AA and most of them are first party titles. PGR2 is one of the prime example.
@@sunray2818 I did play a lot of 1st party Xbox games at the time when game development was 18 months. Besides Shenmue 2, Madden, NFL 2K, Mortal Kombat, and Burnout series, I didn't play a whole lot none 1st party titles. So you maybe right, it's been awhile but I recall my Xbox games look sharp on my 32 Samsung 1080I HDTV set.
@@hababacon I am still using my modded Xbox now with Mosnter component cable, it is very sharp even on HDTV.
@@sunray2818 Nice! I haven't had an OG Xbox since 2007 so it's been awhile. With that said I do own a few OG Xbox games on my XB1X and XSX. Dead or Alive Ultimate 2 and 3 are damn impressive in 4K. Panzer Dragoon Orta is nice in 4K as well.
@@hababacon Backwards compatibility is good, so sad there are very few games with this much 4k support. I own Grabbed by Ghoulies、Full Spectrum Warrior、Black and Crimson Skies, I also have a lot of games that are comaptible on Xbox 360, but since I am from China the Asian version of Xbox original games are actually expensive and scarce to find.
Verdade
I like the PS2 version better, because you can emulate that version with PCSX2!!!
And now you can emulate the Xbox version with XEMU.
@poof69420 TBH I didn't know that.
PS2 - 30fps
Xbox - 60fps
Classic XBOX WINS !!
Even if the Xbox weren't running faster I'd take it, I'm not a lover of motion blur and looks like Namco went crazy with it on the PS2 version. I'm actually getting a headache trying to focus on the left side. 😵💫
Melhor rendimento em Xbox! O gráfico ta igual
Always bet on X.

The major difference is 480i on PS2, and 480p on xbox, I believe.. I'm sure framerate is mostly 60fps on both. For some reason the sun light does reflect in the car on ps2 but on xbox doesn't 8:24

*Riiiiiiiiidge RACERRRRRR*
I find better looking PS2's reflections, but I think the main point is that wasn't thought for comsoles more powerful than PS2. If we take Forza motorsport, it's unarguable that graphics are better than GT4, one of the best looking PS2 racing games.
ps: R-racing's sounds are horrible. The Pantera sounding like a Moog is thousand times less sexier than the carachters XD
Poor PS2 sob's had to settle for pro logic.
PS2 color temperature looks warmer but Xbox a lot clearer.
Your Xbox does not even have a dedicated sound processor, so in Silent Hill 2 you can only listen to badly compressed pre-recorded sound effects.
@@sunray2818 Terrible port though it's an exception imo. A lot of Xbox games had 5.1 where the other consoles of the time only had Pro Logic at best (or 5.1 in a couple of cutscenes or whatever)
I had a true Dolby Digital 5.1 setup throughout Gen 6, so yeah it was a noteworthy difference (in favor of XBOX) on almost every game.
Frame rate on the Xbox blows the PS2 version away, frankly.
60 fps in racing games has always been important, but even a steady 30 is better than the inconsistent frame rate I'm seeing on the PS2.
This is the most glaring difference to me.
Weird, I am playing this on PS2 and it's steady 60fps all the way in the first 2 races shown in this video. Namco is known for putting fps on top of everything else on their racing titles.
PS2 version is 60fps all the way. Not sure what you're seeing but it's not 30fps.
@@sunray2818 yep. Exactly.
@@volkte37 the motion is clearly more sluggish/laggy on the PS2 in this video.
If you have a problem with that, take it up with VCDecide
@@PlumbDrumb the game is 60fps on PS2. That is a fact. It's not more laggy at all. The video might be, but the actual game isn't.
Faltó la versión de GC 😢
The games that actually has a big advantage on Xbox over PS2 and Gamecube, are the ones that install extra data in the hard drive. This one it's pretty comparable.
No. Most games are better on xbox regardless of using hard drive or not. What gives advantage to xbox is having the double of system RAM, more Vram, more CPU and vastly superior GPU with pixels shaders which neither PS2 or gamecube could support in hardware. Hard drive does not improive xbox graphics in any way. If this was true putting a SSD on your xbox or PC would it make look better which is obviously not the case.
GameCube version is by far the best. I've completed Xbox-version as well, but it was not even close to cube-version, that is one of the best racers out there.
I just watched a video of it? looks exactly the same. I've never even heard of GameCube versions being better either. You saying "its not even close" to the GameCube version makes you sound like a fanboy though.
@@bmx7596 In fact NGC version of several multi-platform racing games suffered even worse than PS2 due to their disc's size can't contain that much data and have to cut some image quality.

FPS melhor no Xbox.
Ps2: Dolby Prologic Xbox: Dolby digital.... a 1000 times beter sound in xbox
Both versions are good . The Xbox version has an exclusive car (a Hummer h1 with Xbox branding) apart from that there isn't much difference between them. On graphics, all I can see is maybe the ps2 version has better lighting but the Xbox is a sharper image.
The Xbox version definitely runs smoother too at least in this footage. I'm not really seeing the better lighting on the PS2 version?
@@DuckAlertBeats The problem is this footage does not reflect the acutal running state of PS2 version, I am having full 60fps without any problem on PS2 in the races shown in the video. At 8:12 the reflection of sun of car' rooft is clearly much lesser on Xbox version as well.
@@DuckAlertBeats Also on 8:17 look at the very much washed-out contrast of car's shadow on Xbox version, heck had it not been you saying there's no difference on lighting I could never saw how superior PS2 is on these details!
XBOX, resolução maior, cores mais vivas, 60 FPS !!! loading time melhor ....
The Xbox always outperformed its competitors because it was more powerful. It absolutely stomps the PS2 in every conceivable way and not by a little...by a lot. Faster more efficient processor, more RAM, more video RAM, GPU had more pipelines, the built-in hard drive, ect...I could go on.
Graphics looks the same on video. Don't see a difference.
