Interestingly enough, it’s actually the pick up that is in that guitar. Of course I tone comes from my fingers, but I bought that exact guitar, a 1987 Álvarez Yairi DY62c two weeks ago from someone in Macon Georgia as I was on tour, and I’m blown away at how when I play this song, it sounds just like Monte.
Just when you think this song can't get any better, that his playing can't get any sicker, he kicks it into overdrive. And then does it again, and again. Damn.
I saw Monte 15 years ago at a little pub in Atlanta. There were probably 50-60 there... His first time there. Awesome to say the least. He came back one year later. I again drove 5 hours and had tickets months in advance. This time you could not move. Those 50 people told others what they saw one year back and now the little pub was pushing 200 and some didnt get in. I talked to lots of people. Id say 50% were in bands in Atl or guitarist or affiliated with music. We are the final say and we know genius when we see it. Dont let the 👎worry you. They aint nobody important. Long Live Monte !! M. Vaughan
@@mikevaughan3666 I’m sure I’ll start a war and should probably keep my trap shut, but...though montes skills are beyond compare, he really is technically unbelievable, but I’m almost always left with the feeling that he overplays and just kills the song.
@@MikaelLewisify honestly I agree with most cases of overplaying I think his stuff is very tasteful and makes what would be another pop song interesting
Saw Monte just last night. He's got a cover trio at a restaurant 5 minutes from the house- there goes every Thursday nite! Such a great player and fun to watch.
You can add him to the list of greats..Segovia, Bream, Page, Van Halen, Knoffler, Atkins, Gill...the list will never end of guitar players that make an effort. Who ever thought a guitar could do that!
I remember when he first appeared on Austin City Limits. My buddy Greg had recorded it, and we kept rewinding and re-watching the whole goddam thing! We couldn't believe what we were seeing. It was a blast. RIP Greg.... It was a moment for both of us!
Used to go see him when I was stationed in San Antonio. He played in clubs and bars in San Antonio Austin and surrounding areas. Had his first CD. Thought he'd make it big. Damn!
why is this guy not a household name??? Truly years ahead of the current "beat on your acoustic and play it rhythmically" trend. the top of that guitar shows battle scars!!
This is great. This song popped up in my spotify discover weekly. Instant favorite because of the guitar playing. Not often you see someone do a neck bend on an accoustic. Risky business right there. :P
Some of the most amazing 12 minutes of guitar I have every experience. And equally amazing the underlying rhythm and beat the bassist and drummer provide. They allowed Monte to really shine as a definitive acoustic guitar virtuoso.
I 'have seen Monte 4or5 times & every time he blew the roof off of the place. He plays acoustic because he doesn't have to play an electric. I remember the 1st time was at the festival in Lafayette ,La in April or May. He was jamming on the stage & I heard him from blocks away, when I got to the stage he was playing by himself & his band was in the wings taking a break. He said" How yall doing I'm just jamming by my self" he was playing Little Wing when he got to a certain spot in the song his band started playing along with him.It was just magic. As a matter of fact he signed my 12 string Alvarez when I saw him in Alexandria,La. years ago. He's a great guy.Very friendly
The first time I saw him was in Lafayette at Festival International in April, 2002. I stood beside Harry Shearer watching him sitting on the edge of the stage playing Romeo & Juliet. I got pics somewhere. I've seen him 5-6 times now. Amazing every time.
Monte never ceases to amaze me. Just appreciate the skills and seemingly effortless way he performs. Artists of his caliber only show up in very limited instances. Support Monte and the other incredibly talented folk responsible for such pure bliss. You've seen them in RUclips, now go purchase their products. After the last year in lockdown. They all could use our support! 😁
Nothing I can say is going to give that any more significance than it has on its own. Monte is Monte, and no one else can be. The guy is an original, awesome player in his own category.
It's freakin 436 AM and I find myself stone cold sober standing in front of the TV at my girlfriend's house by myself jammin out as if I wrote the damn song my damn self ... I can feel every note and at same time mesmerized while watching Monte's fingers play.... WHEN WILL I
Top flight musicianship and entertainment. Not often they run together. There's something about the rhythm building, condensing, and striking it on the head that reminds me of Classical Indian when it's charged.
Yeah...we like all that stuff in between. No kidding that's all the stuff you know in one day! ; ) Excellent! Good to see a pretty recent video of you guys. Great little 3-piece band. 💜💚
this dude is so bad ass - seen him several times including his bday party at gary clarks club. gary was hanging out front - didnt want to steal monte's thunder but had to be there just the same!
I first saw Monte do a show on Austin City Limits, 1999. Same style, a little bit lighter, but still amazing. ?The stops/starts he does on this version show a band that is as tight as can be.
You have to take his performance in.. soak it up! Jimi Hendrix is lost to us bc of some distant cousin for $$$$. I’m an EVH fanboy. Steve Vai is doing his Hydra thing and it’s a Total Performance Phenomenon. I absolutely love it!! But… Monte Montgomery will always make me happiest!! That’s music right there…
@ Chris mollO i totally agree i bet the losers who thumbed this song down couldn't play 1 % as good at Monte hes a beast awesomeness. If you cant touch the artist playing dont you dare thumb his down.
it would be cooL if Monte, Phil, and a new thunder-god did Madison once again, like 2020. how do you feel about that? OR, David Piggot makes a special appearance ? #MonteMontgomery
This version made me laugh. It looks like he is thinking "I have to play this song..., again. I'm going to mix it up this time". Not exactly the version I'm used to, but very good nevertheless. This guy is such a great guitarist.
The greatest unknown guitarist. Not to mention that he is doing these runs on an acoustic guitar. Simply Incredible.
It's not electric or acoustic it's just..guitar.
"That was most everything I know in A" :D What a guy...
His tone is all in his fingers. He just always hits the sweet spot.
Interestingly enough, it’s actually the pick up that is in that guitar. Honestly I had not heard of Mr Montgomery but he is flippin amazing
A true guitar god more people should know about!
Whoever thumbed this down has no idea anything about musicians and how incredible what he's doing is!
Seriously, how could you not like this?

@@MikaelLewisify I read an interview where he said he played acoustic to "Hold him Back". Overplaying? Maybe, but I'll take it that way, any day.
...when will I...ever quit listening to this, its epic.
i've watched this over 20 times and i still don't believe it.
One of my favorite guitar players on the planet! And his voice is incredible ❤! Respect brother!
I’m so glad I was recommended to listen to this guy. Clean tones and a great lead singer and rhythm guitarist!
Lol His lead playing isn't too bad either. 🤣
The "Evel Knievel of Guitar".
That guitar deserves a documentary special, how many years has it served Monte? What a maestro and 3-piece band!
Saw Monte just last night. He's got a cover trio at a restaurant 5 minutes from the house- there goes every Thursday nite! Such a great player and fun to watch.
Where is that please love to see him go to Austin couple times a year
The things he does with that guitar!!!
No words can describe how phenomenal that piece of LIVE music is. I am dumbfounded but happy that I found it!
Props to whoever shot and edited this. Excellent camera work.
Rarely does such style collide with such talent in the soul of one human being, but the force of it here just bowls me over.

I asked the same thing the first time I saw him live in front of 30 people in Austin...in 1998.
He is a household name in my house:-)
Totally agree. I love his guitar, reminds me of Willie's. Have been listening and following him for years. One of my favorite musicians.
He's a household name in my house! Ha! Pure greatness.
Humanity asked for a LEGEND! Here he is and most of us never knew him! Sad times!
This is great. This song popped up in my spotify discover weekly. Instant favorite because of the guitar playing. Not often you see someone do a neck bend on an accoustic. Risky business right there. :P
This guy is amazing!!!!! Thanx a 1,000,000,000,000,000. I can't believe what I'm hearing as I write this!!!!!!
Some of the most amazing 12 minutes of guitar I have every experience. And equally amazing the underlying rhythm and beat the bassist and drummer provide. They allowed Monte to really shine as a definitive acoustic guitar virtuoso.
One of a kind of all time! Come to Tucson please Monte!
unbelievable good , why I didn't know him before? Awesome.
I saw Monte at the Flora-Bama roadhouse about 10 yrs. ago and thought he was the best I had seen! Now I know he was!!!

our favorite Monty song
The 20 seconds from 6:15 - 6:35 are so damn beautiful. The bend at the end gives me chills everytime.

Love Monte. Saw him do an acoustic show in CT like 10 years ago and been hoping he comes back in this direction but alas😢
Nothing I can say is going to give that any more significance than it has on its own. Monte is Monte, and no one else can be. The guy is an original, awesome player in his own category.
The greatest here is, just amazing.

Just found this. Way cool!
The breakdown from 1:12 to 1:22 is SO CLEAN AND CRISP!!!
Used to be one of my favorite songs twenty years ago! Wow! My favorite parts are when the bass and drums disappear and only him. Oustanding performer!
Top flight musicianship and entertainment. Not often they run together. There's something about the rhythm building, condensing, and striking it on the head that reminds me of Classical Indian when it's charged.
This lad is just wonderful.
The textbook definition of polished...but with groove. Buckethead a close second.
I like this song a lot!

Unbelievable can't wait September 21st 2013 at the Gordan Center in Owings Mills Maryland
The coolest around
Spectacular playing, he must have fingers of steel to bend those acoustic gauge guitar strings. Amazing.
yea monte is great

I've seen him a few times here in Atlanta and he's a BA plain and simple...just a BA
The version of this song from LIVE AT WORKPLAY is the absolute best!! Monty is incredible 🤘🤘

This guys is fabulous~!
they are the epitome of musicians full of respect for each other, having a blast doing their tunes!
Unbelievable. Really. It must be band from another planet. They can't possibly be human.
David Piggott on bass and Jamie Bell on drums.
♥MONTE♥MONTE♥MONTE♥
2:30- 2:34 did you see him shake the fire off his hand after that solo!!!!!
Amazing musician. I can't help but think of the boss on the IT Crowd every time I see him, though.
You have to take his performance in.. soak it up! Jimi Hendrix is lost to us bc of some distant cousin for $$$$.

I cannot grasp the fact that he can sing while playing all that pretty complicated stuff during the verses at the same time! 0.o
it would be cooL if Monte, Phil, and a new thunder-god did Madison once again, like 2020. how do you feel about that? OR, David Piggot makes a special appearance ? #MonteMontgomery

Wow... dam who is this guy... HE plays like it's a set of 8's.. but I'm sure it's not .....acoustic no less... so good
