Great rendition of Monte's creative cover of the Dire Straits song. From the Facebook Live stream on July 12, 2020. Support Monte via montemontgomery.net
Once, at a pub in Austin, I tipped Monte $20 to play this song. He got pissed because he had to tell his band to go get drinks while he played it. Best $20 I spent. Great song.
Wow Monty! Your old friend from St. Louis Peter. I used to bring my daughter Julia to see you at blueberry hill. She was too young to see the show but you met us a few times before shows. You are a good man!Miss you so much up here! We love you love you love you! We still listen to you all the time. Trying to come down and see you!
Ladies and gents, the amazing Monte Montgomery! I’ve been a fan since the first time I saw him at the Saxon Pub in Austin back in 1994. Thanks for sharing your gift with us Monte.
Beside the incredible talent that we see there is something mystical about THAT guitar that we hear. Sometimes it takes a piece of art and a gift of musical ability to sound like heaven.
Have known and loved Monte's talent for 20 years. This should be in every playlist. Miss seeing you in live performance. Hopefully, you can play in Pflugerville someday.
First heard Monte about 20 years ago when we lived in Austin and have followed him ever since. Have missed seeing live performances lately. He's a true original and there will never be anyone like him to follow (IMHO). I always turn his music on when I want to chill and just be at peace. Love his art always
I was watching Monte for the first time on Austin City Limits and, about 5 minutes into the performance, I realized my mouth was literally hanging open. Never saw anything like it before. There’s always something waiting around the corner in this life to keep us amazed. I wonder what’s next... (He played Sarah Smile and When will I)
Oh man. So good and brings back many memories of Juanitas in Little Rock Arkansas circa 1999. Also, Monte played this song in Shreveport Louisiana around the same time at an out door venue when it was about 40 degrees or so. I’ll never forget, after the song was over, Monte commented on how cold his hands were and said that he had to tell himself “Must...keep...going....” while playing this song. Love these oldies.
Monte……….. you are and will always be my Guitar Hero!! This song…… the way you play it….. makes me cry every time!! Such emotion expressed here!! Thank you, Friend!!! Merry Christmas!!
Just listened to this and about 7 of your other great ones on You Tube for the umteenth time. Been a fanatical booster since I saw you on ACL. I cant think of anyone better since that day. Hope you are well my friend. I miss going around the States catching your shows. Bless the Architect who blended the notes that made this little boy sing; And gift us fair time to again stand in a line to hear his Yairi ring🎶
There are many talents like Monte that never get exposure because of the perversion of the music Biz. Someone is not sexy enough or something. I hate it. In old times minstrel s were valued because they were the only entertainment. Nowadays they promote bums. Monty is not a bum,he is a soul brother and I am on his side. Monte reach inside yourself and write a song like American Pie,something that refuses to be ignored. You can knock around forever. Good Luck in the life you have chosen.
This man truly is THE G.O.A.T.! Period!
Indisputably one of the greatest acoustic guitarists ever. 💕
i think there are very few that would dispute he is the very best
One of Judy's favorites. Monte Thanks for playing our wedding May 8, 1993. I miss her everyday.
Amazing Monte Montgomery! A man with passion.

I'm commenting because of the fact that there are only two comments. This is Monte Montgomery. Stop and listen.
I can't believe I've only just discovered this guy. Incredible

Same, living in Austin you get a little spoiled by the ubiquity of musical talent, but to me he is in a league of his own. Breathtaking.
About the finest acoustic playing you’ll ever hear...
