- This is week two of our van build. We're installing 2 of our maxx air fans. We went with 2 so that we could have plenty of air flow within the van even when it's raining. Next we'll be installing one of our windows. Stay tuned!

Yay! Loving this series already. Taku....great job so far, try using a wet finger to profile sticky sealant. Jocelyn, check out hannahleeduggan here on RUclips, she has loads of plants in her van. Also Foresty Forest is in the throws of his 2nd van build, might be worth getting in touch and see if he has any tips especially with the electrics install. See you both soon.
Someone gave that advice on IG so our second fan looks much better! We'll check those people out, thanks for the suggestions.
Word of advise Taku! Always screw in a star shaped pattern!! Very important to prevent shifting and lifted edges. I noticed at 12:00 you went in a clockwise direction.
Hey Guys, next time use wet fingers when spreading the sealant and it will spread much easier than using that tool...it won’t cause much mess and it will look a lot more like how I suspect you guys want to keep it...
Using tape when applying the sealant would help with a more cleaner finish. Love what you two are doing! Look forward to the future builds.
Or a wet finger with a glove. That helps make the bead cleaner
You are brave Taku for drilling holes in your van's roof...😨😥😰
When your installing the windows. If it's a cr Lawrence window. Make sure you hand tighten the inside rim/trim into the window or you will strip the holes. I had to redrill a few of my trim holes because I used a drill.
‘...forgot my template. Jocelyn!’.. #teamwork #partner
Taku, just to add, On your climate control you'll see the vent icon that describes [OUTSIDE AIR IN] and you'll have [RECYCLED]. Since you have an exhaust fan creating negative cabin pressure, it will attempt to grab air anywhere that has least resistance, that being said, if you set your climate control to [OUTSIDE AIR IN]; you should be getting fresh air from the dash area (without having to have your climate control actually running;car off, keys out of ignition) into the cab ; out the top to your exhaust. I just wanted to share that with you. BTW, I love you guys and both your channels. Keep up the good work. It may or may not occur to you but , you guys and your content bring out a very chill/positive/mini-vacay-ish vibe and a good mood for a lot of people who may be having a bad or rough day. Thanks guys. Keep it goin!
Wondering if u guys would do a Q&A vid. Seems like it’s been a while! How did you 2 meet? Also how long have you 2 dated? Kids soon? Goals for 2021 travels? Fresh water lakes? Or just ocean shores? Etc..
Hit up some youtuber who live in their van. See what kind of tip and help they can give you. Most youtuber do respond.
Should have used dicor sealant!
Should have bucket seated the front seats when you turn them it adds to the feel of the van, space wise, its like adding recliners lol
We aren't done with the build, many more videos to come. That's why we'll have that pull up counter top on the side, so the passenger seat can work from there.
Awesome upload guys. Putting the frame is the way to go. But ya, just hose it down when it dries and patch up if needed. 🍻Cheers Guys from Fresno, loving the Content 👊🏼😎
A chef and a carpenter? U r an amazing man. Your woman is very lucky for sure. Great job so far. Can't wait to c the finished product!!
Interesting to watch the progress but scary as heck when you were cutting the first vent hole in the van. I almost had to click ahead to see if it worked out. Well, actually I did just a little.
Awesome Progress Guys !!! Like the idea with the plants, make it homey with a Jocelyn touch 😊. Keep up the Great work, Can't wait to follow you on the road >>>> 💗 🎣 ♻ 🚐 👍
I gotta say, you're doing great in terms of quality! The wooden frame is definitely a solid addition.
K Soo awesome vid guys. Couple tips for the second fan install. Use the frame again. But instead of the silicon that you used, use Lexel. It is a clear paintable silicon that sticks to anything. Also instead of using the PL on the frame to the ceiling use a heavy duty thick doublesided tape. Also if your using self taping screws to install the fan. Don't pre-drill your holes your losing grip by doing so. I worked in the RV industry in my younger years. Never pre-drilled anything.
It's good you mentioned the self tapping screws. With the frame, it's OK that he predrilled but I hope he's not using self tap with the frame. That would drill out the frame and create a very week bite. 20+ yrs architecture construction admin.
that was very good clean work man ! impressive
Lol.. it’s metal SHAVINGS.. shrapnel is from a bomb or grenade or something like that.
I forgot my template down there 🤔🤔🤔🤔
JOCELYN!!!!
🤣
Shoulda put the sealant under the plastic frame before screwing it in. UNDER THR FRAME!!
I’m cringing at the caulking job. At least you’re not afraid to just go for it. I’m sure the second vent will be easier and cleaner.
Sushi master, not a caulking master.... All good, enjoy the journey!
Also. The silicone on the roof needs to be UV resistant. Itll definitely work for now, but I would check on it in a few months for cracking.
It is
Next time you are using silicone that have a bowl of soapy water to dip your putty knife into. With soapy water the silicone won't stick to the putty. Similar to getting your knife wet cutting sushi. Gives a smoother more uniform surface...
Taku, I'm super excited for you and Jocelyn. Looking forward to seeing the progress. For future caulking jobs check out this video: ruclips.net/video/4V7lemzrzJ0/видео.html
Cardboard Aided Drafting (CAD)! Works awesome!
Wow.. this is crazy!!! Rich rebuilds just did the same exact episode on his sprinter van today too. He installed a vent/fan today too!
Hey! I think you should rethink the solar idea and instead do a larger alternator with a big lithium battery. Look at how foresty forst did his.
We'll be doing both
hope it isn't too late for you to make a second square with a spacer for putting in a filter....for the fans....you know to keep out dust and just collect everything.....change every 6mths...
you know like spacers on ONE side are 1/2 size so you can slip in a filter to change it...you can go like 2" away from the other screws just enough to bite into the top like 4 twists...don't have to hit metal. everyone likes a filter :P you can buy washable ones, but they are expensive.
imagine cooking in your van with two fans with HEPA filters lol
I would put caulking between the flange and the van roof so it forms more of a gasket instead of doing the edge of the seem. Making it more into a gasket would also help from taking the chance of the actual screw holes leaking.
really interested in seeing all of this, been considering doing the same. love your vids thanks man
lol. man! you guys could’ve just bought my friends’ old vanlife van... if you made this move before the pandemic! lol
Two fans is a fantastic idea, for ventilation, one fan blows in, the second one blows out! Loving the van build videos, can’t wait for the finished product!!! Thanks guys.
Keep goin Taku and Jaklyn! Showin others that people don't have to be carpenters if they want to join vanlife. Awesome work
Great job kiddo!! I'm a builder and your doing a great job. Did you paint the edges of metal before you put the fan in? Hopefully. Anytime you cut a hole make sure you do that so no rust starts! I'm anxious to see the next video!!
I wish a hand vac at my job sites.... You could have used a moist finger to smooth out the caulking, as it builds up on your finger, wipe off the excess and re-moisten your finger and continue... And using tape as a border will also help keeping it clean...
HI Taku, love watching your shows. I live in San Mateo and have a good amount of access to woodworking tools. If you need any help with the build let me know.
Hi Guys, awesome video as always. This is a great build and not a single bikini butt in sight. LOL. Can I make a suggestion/criticism with the vent instal? Most van builders put silicon on incorrectly. Once it is installed, you should barely see the silicone line. To make sure the silicone seals, you need it to go from under the fan cover/shroud to the outside, with a small bead exposed to the outside. The best process is this IMO.
After you have drilled the locating screw holes, Before you put any silicone on, mark around the cover with a pencil.
Remove the cover.
Run a thick bead of silicone between the pencil line and the to about 1/4” from the inside opening.
Where the screw holes are, put a thin flat washer over each hole so you can screw through it. This will act as a spacer between the cover and the roof.
Place the cover on the silicone, using four skewers to locate it correctly over the screw holes. Screw the cover down - the silicone will squeeze out.
Get a spray bottle and fill it with water, adding some dish detergent and mix well.
Don’t touch the silicon. Spray the soapy water liberally over the cover, the silicone and a few inches around the roof. The soapy water stops the silicone sticking to the roof.
Put a thin latex glove on and spray your index finger. Have lots of paper towel ready.
Run your finger along the join where the silicone squeezed out. You will get lots on your finger so wipe it on the towel. More soapy water on your finger, away you go again.
You should have a very thin bead of silicone the thickness of the washers, just sticking out a little off the cover. You now have a base of silicone the width of the cover all the way out. The silicone will hold the unit down, the screws just locate it.
If you're trying to level the sealant try spitting on your finger or just keeping it wet and running it over the caulking. That's what we do when we seal shower enclosures
Oh no cutting holes in the roof may void the warranty!🤣🤣 Nice work looks good!👍
mount metal boards on the sides that lock down and can be opened up and supported with metal poles.....you can use the top to put plants out on sunny days....and cook under them on a grill/table.....wat fresh herbs and veg and a roof for cooking?
These are awesome, I'm looking forward to continue watching the outcome of ya new project!
Next time wet your finger and when you're wiping the silicone with your finger watch wet the silicone won't stick your finger and you can spread it out nice and even make it look beautiful then take a rag and wipe your finger off and repeat the process
It's funny that this build coincides with another youtuber that is building a home van for one of his worker. Maybe you and him can get in contact with each other and share ideas. His youtube channel is called "rich rebuilds". He was famous for taking broken Tesla and making them fully operational without the help of Tesla. Now his current project is turning a retired FedEx van into a mobile home for one of his worker. And he's at the same step as you in his video; installing the fan.
Very smart of you to cut little by little, a friend of mine cut the windows too big, they had a really hard time trying to fill in the gap after installing their windows. Also, I just made a video on kitchen island and Shiplap makeover, and that liquid nail doesn’t work. It takes days to dry. Great video 👍, can’t wait to see the next one.
for the sealant you should wear gloves and use your fingers :P any sealant.....
Dicor self leveling sealant only. No butal tape, it dries out. You could redue it later. I installed on tent trailer and travel trailer. It’s never pretty but nobody sees it. Every few years you add more and the good thing is it will stick on the old layer
If you put tape down on the edge to apply silicone. It makes a very nice edge after you put the silicone down. Smear it on and pull the tape off. Also I would silicone the inside edge just to be sure your not getting leaks. It really sucks if you have your ceiling in and get a small leak. Get another bottle of lap sealant and layer it on top of silicone if you want it to look pretty.
I think the lower frame of the fan goes on the inside of the hole and you sandwich the fan and frame
Yes, Jocelyn TFW!!!
"Seven plants!"
can somebody tell me the purpose of installing a fan? i dont quite understand. is it so the moisture and the steam from cooking doesnt stay inside the van?
The one tip I can give you is to use pressure treated wood, that's rated for below-ground use
Tell Jocelyn she needs to get a hard hat when she's working underneath you LOL
Are you Korean?
Where are you? and Can you speak Korean?
Taku! You will learn to use your fingers! 12:52
I’m a fan of fans. Good idea for having two.
Who's the one Dumbo that hit the dislike button
drillin' holes in roofs is like drilling holes in kayaks...it hurts
Taku needs a Mexican friend 🤣
Slow and steady wins the race but there's a BALANCE between being careful and clean and getting shit done!
Don't take too long Taku, we wanna see your adventures!!!! 😆
Adventures and not to many repairs on the road. They do need to remember to hit the water now and then.
You almost killed her lol
Nice job ! Thanks !
Boba coming up 🤣🤣
I think you should use bolts and nuts rather than the screws to sandwich the frame and the fan curb. So you don’t need the glue to cure completely. Other than that it’s looking good.
You guys are making good progress. Looks like you will be finished just in time for spring trips
Rich Rebuilds and you are one of My favorite channels and you both are doing vans now.
Love your videos. Telling us your thoughts, research, and watching mistakes as you go really is helpful!! Thanks!
Looks great !
Rich rebuild is doing up a van as well, good to check it out
Is this an exhaust fan?
more videos
Do you still work at the sushi restaurant?
No he doesnt he went full time awhile back :) there’s a video but I dont know the title if you want to check it out :)
Great job guys. Love this channel. Can’t wait to see more!
should of just bought a food truck buddy
After they get done wait they'll think they need more stuff and then end up with small trailer about the size of a motorcycle.
I feel like one fan is enough. but to each their own.
Should have went fan and a screened vent like in an rv or trailer
Woot woot!! Can’t wait for all of the new adventures! Hurry up and get it done!!
Have you thought about adding sound dampening material to the walls to help with the road noises?
Yup, the van came with a lot and we've added some more
👍✌️🔥💪
Looks like the fan Uncle Rich just put in his van
Epoxy!
My wife is an audiologist, shh at not wearing ear protection.
You got ways to go, but I here with you both all the way!! Can't wait to see this all done..
"boba coming up" 😂
Is there something this man cannot do?
This is a series I didn't know I needed. Thanks Taku!
more of these videos please!
Two fans are clutch!🔥
Can’t wait for week 3 4 5 etc 😄 🎉
You should stream on twitch
i really love these videos XD
Measure twice cut once!
Let's get this van going. Great series!!
Good on ya
Awesome 😎
gorilla glue....
too soon!
Are you kidding, now it’s RV Life? Please go back to fishing. This is like watching your friends vacation movies please no more
You know you're on the wrong channel, right? And that you not only don't have to watch this video, you can tell from both the photo and title that this is about a van build.
@@TaklyntheWorld Oh no I'm sorry Dude I was on the wrong channel, I take it all back very sorry
I cannot tell you how much I have screamed at this video! While brave to install yourself, the installation will cost you in the long run I’m afraid..😟
