Probably the biggest RUclips channel I subscribe to's CEO has a saying
"If it's a review it's not paid, if it's paid it's not a review" ~ Linus Sebastian
6:28 yes it does, yes it f'in does.
This is why Plugin Doctor is getting more popular these days.
The amount of bad audio plugins out here is alarming, even big names.
Yep
I run my business out of my home studio! I mix around 100 - 150 projects a year and have done so for several years. Right out of our spare bedroom. Now I did start by working in bigger studios but that is beside the point. I completely agree. I had a hard time with his video when I saw it. There is nothing wrong with wanting companies to produce higher-quality tools and holding them to a standard. If we don't do that then how can we ever expect the tools we use for our craft to ever get better? I like Dom but I highly disagree with many of the points he made. Auto gain allows me to work faster and more efficiently. I work very hard to keep aliasing out of my mixes so oversampling is very much so important to me. The problem IS that devs keep releasing crappy broken plugins. The problem ISN'T that we expect more lol.
Thanks for the great vid Weaver!
This post is mental
@@tmw3489 Sorry you feel that way! Why is that?
Thank you for your input. At the end of the day people would do well to remember that what is being reviewed is a tool. Plug-ins and audio equipment are tools, and to lose sight of this would be to betray your audience of fellow artists, and even the very concept of reviewing/critiquing as a whole.
Actually, I have a question that's been bothering me for a while, and this might be my best shot so far at learning from the wisdom of someone with far more experience: Would you recommend iZotope RX Standard (or higher) for audio cleanup/repair business work? Could I manage such an operation with just RX Standard, Audacity, and maybe Ableton Live if more plug-ins are to be used? (I have iZotope's Tonal Balance Bundle which includes Ozone 9 Advanced, Neutron 3 Advanced, and Nectar 3 Plus, and I plan to upgrade to their Music Production Bundle which includes newer versions of Ozone and Neutron as well as RX 10 Standard). And to be specific, I'm looking to get into general audio cleanup whether it be for field recordings, interviews, lo-fi instrument/musical recordings, concert recordings, or film scenes. Removing background noise, reducing harsh frequencies, boosting some elements while reducing other unwanted sounds, things like that; whatever someone would be willing to pay me to do so I can save them the time of learning it themselves.
My main issue is every time I plan to start I get cold feet and feel like I don't know enough, yet when I clean up my own audio I do just fine at least for my own purposes. Starting seems to be the hardest part because I've got too much of a tendency toward humility to ever feel ready for any kind of "professional work". Lately I've been just trying to stop putting a boundary between play and work, and just do and learn. It's been helping me make a lot more progress in my growth as an artist and producer/engineer than ever.
But, I'm also pretty much all self-taught so I don't think my "professional insecurity" is ever gonna disappear until I find someone in-person who knows more than me (which I haven't found yet, sadly, I don't really have any connections that would help with that) who is willing to mentor me, or at the very least sit in a studio session and take notes/ask questions.
Dood spent a whole lotta time to say a whole lotta nothing. But hey I appreciate what you do Weaver, I need to know which plugins to stay away from.
Your the goat for this review. I watched it and couldn't even finish the video. Ironically he is clickbaiting the audience with the same tactics he is "warning" us about
yeah... Like Weaver is alluding to, he's speaking a lot of words but he's not actually saying anything.
Most of RUclips is clickbait 🤷🏾♂️
I'll never get this time back in my life.
Yeah he's talking about White Sea and Paul Third. I like both of them. Lots of useless crappy plugins out there those guys save me time and money sooooo.
Homie inna yellow sweater made me realize it's okay to give up on music & get a day time job very inspiring
@@LIFEAFTEREVERYTHING Your a good soul much love dawg
Sounds like he may have been talking about Paul Third as well.
He said "plugin reviews are over saturated but I do them too" 😄
internet has long since been toxic. this isn't some new kind of fad just kicking off lol. weaver beats, ur reviews are pretty spot on imo.
also if developers make a lousy plugin then they're fair game, it's always been that way even going all the way back to Nintendo Power magazine reviewing new games. This guy is too much.
White Sea never says a plugin is unusable because it doesn’t have auto gain. He says auto gain is such a simple feature that he doesn’t understand why it’s not included in every plugin especially because of how useful it is.
he also doesn't really know what he's talking about. auto-gain isn't just some boolean that the developer forgot to set to "true". you have to analyse the loudness (RMS) of the signal before and after the effect is applied, and then apply gain to compensate the difference. this is not an instantaneous process and will incur some amount of latency. maybe some latency isn't the end of the world with delay compensation, but it is still an important consideration, especially if the plugin is to be used while tracking.
@@markovpavlov8651 yeah, I’m sure the guy has no clue what he’s talking about.
@@markovpavlov8651 like.. does he really not know, or is this hyperbole?
@@markovpavlov8651 Regardless of whether it's easy or difficult to implement, wouldn't it be great if all the latest plugins have auto-gain? Like, I would see that as the starting point for plugin innovation considering almost a huge majority of the new plugins are just copy-paste versions of another plugin but with different UI's.
@@vulnerable2femboys why not to have single auto-gain plugin and use it in parallel in signal chain?
He obviously didn't use 'Sandbox'. "No undo ?" NOOOOOOO
0:07 man is not fake...... he is being sarcastic and mocking at them!!!!! you guys Plugin Police dudes are so fucking serious and stiff!!
Get Em Weaver!!!!
White sea studio and paul third punching the air rn
Your hair growing back quick mon 😆
Creasing up!!🤣🤣🤣 "YOUR A LEGEND" Dan UK
dom is a great musician and a solid producer. he knows what he is talking about. having said that, he also is sponsored by steinberg and other great companies that rob his perspective of any objectivity. everything with a grain of salt i guess..
I realize so many of us get recommended the same videos that popped up for me too i just didn't care for it but now that your commentin on it is a reason too watch love the content man
but real talk he's kind of right on some points. nobody gives a shit about auto gain or oversampling if the plugin sounds good and the results are there for your clients. most people that obsess over these things don't actually have clients. shout to White Sea though and yourself, but he actually has some valid points
Process des nutz...
Bro really self-reported
"I hate drama! I'm going to generate more drama to call out the 'drama'!" ~ Dom Sigalas. What a hypocrite. LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agree 100% Dude made a whole video about nothing and went full drama with it. SMH
He's, right, and he's captain obvious....
7 minute payoff? I'm clawing my eyes out and removing my ear drums with an ice pick. Holy FUUUUUUUUUCK!
He's absolutely right abut what he's saying but c'mon man we absolutely need a plugin reviewer like yourself. Plus you're a funny guy so your videos are fun to watch.
Hell yeah. This needed to be done.
Hey I was looking at that weird clock the whole time so take it back!
"Are we talking about White Sea Studio?" Haha, spot on! The dramatic hand gestures and standing up and fake incredulity...
Infomercial RUclips spokesman lol 😆
This man has a line in the sand, altered it, promoted himself, exposed himself and died in sand.
Nobody uses Waves anymore, I have no idea why he’s mentioning them. They are ALWAYS on sale. They’re outdated, the company just does stuff inside digital mixers now.
he only reviews plugins he gets paid to review….so noble
And he only reviews plugins he actually thinks are good, so...
@@ElectricAlien577 Anybody will think a plugin is actually good when there's money on the line. Which isn't bad, I can't hate on that. I respect the hussle.
@@vulnerable2femboys so u respect people who abuse their influence aka power for money ... u sound awesome u must love every dictator in the worlds history from hitler to gengis khan, George jr. and putin ... they all on that hustle that u respect ...

Nearly every youtuber on the planet gets paid sponsorships. Some of them will shill out for any shitty company. Fuck those people. Some, like Dom, will only give positive review to products he genuinely thinks are good. Whether he gets paid doesnt matter. All that matters is if he's giving his honest opinion.
@@jasonanderson5034 That is a horribly disingenuous argument. Accusing someone of loving hitler because he doesn't hate people for taking sponsored videos.
The moral of the story is use what resonates with you. Stop giving a f about what someone else says or thinks. It's not a rocket science. Too many sheeps. Just do what works for you.
Years ago when I started using fruityloops, people 🤡 fruityloops now today, FL studio is heard on so many hits.
This is a new category: Euro Mixing Engineer Beef!! The Friction Fairies are blessings us early in 2023. 😂
It sounds like he is just tired of producers on the internet, in general. Speaking of misleading, I thought something totally different when reading the title to this video. 🤔
Lol I figured he wasn’t referring to the guy actually exposing himself lol
I think he' s talking about paul third
It’s just drummed up drama for exhibition and then a list of cliché. Brotee isn’t saying anything hahahaha he’s coming for you weaves look out haha
He’s concerned the Community’s “triggered”…🤬
why do you look like maxwell scott renner (love your content)
bro i love your content fr . be following you for years man! since TOO LUSH!
I think the video was more about toxic comments saying stuff like one missing feature means the plugin is unusable and therefore everyone that uses it is an idiot. So it's more about trolls in the comments and how he's unhappy that some reviews may generatre such trolls. The video probably could have been 5 minutes or a community post though.
I thought he was talking about the midi chord pack people, but dude is legit I watched him some before he has a good ear and def some quality gear. I also thought the video was a little wishy washy but I know the point he was trying to make. Like use what u got and know u don't have to have this or that.
lol - my thoughts.. white sea immediately.. and now white sea is tamed..
Bro think he the Music Production Dharr Mann 💀
Now I gotta check out White Sea studio
"It doesn't touch my peaks, know what I'm sayin" 😂😂😂😂💀💀
Everybody has their quirks. I watch White Sea, Dom Sigalas, your channel and many others. I want to get as many different viewpoints as possible. I sift through it all looking for take-aways -- and heck, creative types are notorious for being passionate in the extreme. If it veers off into the cringe zone, there's always my trusty sidebar.
He said "I've even rejected money" meaning I didnot take the money....
He said he was offered money to review plugins and rejected it because he did not like the plugin. Implying he would or has taken money if he does like the plugin.
Dude's video was so pointless that it makes me want to do a reaction video too.
He's dramatic too, that's why I hardly ever watch his stuff.
my problem with reviews is that reviewers review things in their reviews
You should do a sampling video, I'd much rather learn from you than someone else.
never trust a guy with a silly ear ring
Also, what white sea does is basically the equivalent of Plugin unboxing, just first impressions, often 100% uninformed, I find it entertaining altho judging plugins in this manner and often using mixing or producer oriented plugs on a full mix is quite silly.
It's easy to mistake it for a review and thats what pisses many people off, he kind of exploits the low effort quick video rule that works very well on youtube and on social media generally. Can't knock the hustle if it works
I like White Sea a lot, the most obvious problems with him are as you say, that a lot of the stuff he reviews isn't really useful for a mixing engineer and he'll comment that it might have creative uses, but he doesn't really get into them. Also testing compressors on finished tracks, he needs to find better material for that. But I trust him more than dudes with a bunch of RGB lights in their guest room. And I think people who have seen a few of his videos understand those limitations, his preferences are kind of weird but he's consistent about them.
Maybe he meant that noobs don't know what oversampling is, but they're outraged because it's missing from X,Y Plugin. A point that wouldn't have even known about if they hadn't watched someone telling them "There's no oversampling" OMG - I have to kill myself LIVE here right now.....
Personally I get outraged if my plugins don't have enough purple.
i get outrage if there isn’t a character for the plug-in
He acts as if plugin reviews are all supposed to be how-tos. Bruh I just wanna know about the features and hear some examples - including what’s missing. Everything else I can figure out myself
White Sea Vs Dom..Challenge
the bots on his video praising him 💀
I clicked on this video thinking I'd see someone literally exposed themselves. I will stay subbed however.
Eh, this one ain't it my brother.
YEAH ITS ALL THE PLUGINS FAULT I SUCK 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
bro has the extra long sm7bbc 0:51
Shit I make music with bells and a bow and arrow what’s a plugin?
This is another Nexsis event in "The War Of The Creators!" It's here..................
I've stumble upon this guy few times, while browsing youtube - its pretty clear he has close relation to yamaha (steinberg parent company)
I think by law people are obligated to expose if review is "sponsored" it happens all the time, like when someone reviews lights or camera gear and say "i can keep it, but it will not affect my review in any way"
Its pretty believable, only when person is not affiliated with company though.
...but another question arises, if he is associated with one company and combines this type of activity with a business related to reviews - how many more companies pay him?
I watched his video yesterday and i wasnt even sure what he was trying to point out. I kinda get the overrall message but nah man, i gotha agree with weaver on this lol
Imma say this, if u own Ableton suite you don't need any 3rd party effects vst.
I bet you this guys is about to put out a terrible plugging!!
As a FullSail student, I’ve learned throughout my short engineering career you can make great mixes with the shitty or free plugins. You don’t need $100+ plugins because honestly all they do is do the work for you for the most part and reduce human error but you can still have shitty mixes like these SoundCloud producers but they have hit songs regardless
😂😂what is happening😂😂
he's on unison's payroll. ^_-
Is it just me or does he look like Seth Rollins from WWE? 😄🤔
I kinda see it know wtf 😂
he looks like a doodoohead...
How to be an elitist without saying you're an elitist
Mans is starting a war with white sea studio he won't be able to finish
Just show him a plugin without autogain and he will lay on the floor for 30m.
Lol
Think he's trying to sucker his loyal followers into buying bad plugins from companies that will sponsor him. I know RUclips has become a business for youtubers, but these type of youtubers\ influencers are the worst. They will lead a blind lamb to the slaughter house for a buck.
You’re never negative
buddy shoulda kept this one in the drafts haha 😂
He and the other famous channel DR Mix, are for sure sponsored by Steinberg and also they appeared on the software cover and other t han Steinberg, their content is 80% sponsored.
4:33 in and i still have no idea what this guy's point is. Not sure he knows either. Also he comes across like a drama queen himself. Next.
lol, I was watching this moments ago.
For what it’s worth I’ve personally been enjoying your content for a while now. And I find it funny that you mention a specific scammy company because I’ve actually made a video and called them out for offering me money to promote some certain midi packs. Unethical is to take someone’s money, promote their product knowing that you’re fooling people.
You could have made a more informed video in my opinion even if you wanted to roast me.
My conscience is clean- I have NEVER shown something on my channel that I don’t believe in. Critical voices are valuable and need to be heard- the point of this video was to address the hateful comments and bullying that’s going on- NOT the creators. And guess what, I was criticised for not blaming the creators themselves. So go figure.
At the end of the day we need voices like yours and other RUclipsrs to call out any Pokémon figured plugins but seeing RUclipsrs being attacked and bullied because they make a positive review is not healthy. I hope you can agree to this.
I appreciate that you enjoy my videos. But my point still stands, I wouldn't have made this video if you didn't state toward the end that you've been offered money for reviews before (and denied it because you didn't believe in the plugin.) Which implies that you have or would take money for a review if you do believe in the plugin? Correct?
@@Weaverbeats You have every right to roast me and I didn't expect you to take back what you said on the video.
Your question tells me that you isolated this point in the video and got angry (and for some reason you took it personal? Maybe I'm wrong). I guess you didn't spend a bit of time checking my channel but went straight to go full aggression on the video. Fair enough.
Ok, so here's a clear response: Whenever I make a video review of a plugin I *always* declare in the beginning of the video if it's sponsored video or not. And actually, most of my reviews are NOT sponsored. But whenever I have a sponsor, I always disclose it with full transparency to my audience. Then you can judge on your own *knowing* that this is a sponsored video.
Does this justify your reaction? You'll be the judge of that and I am sure you think it does.
Roast me, I'm ok with that and I have nothing to hide. But if you do, why don't you roast other channels as well that *do* sponsored videos and never disclose it and act like they are the saviours of the plug-in community? How do I know? Because I've been approached by the same companies, rejected the sponsorship and I see other channels making the video I was asked to make. Yup, jackpot I guess. And no, this wasn't for a scam company.
My point being: you can agree or disagree with sponsored videos. You can be angry too if you believe that music production channels should NEVER have sponsors. But if you do some digging you will find the real bad guys. As far as I am concerned: check my content and see if it contains useful info.
Hope this clarifies- take care man.🤟
Holy moly dude flipping out hate and bully cards to ensure a clear conscious. If so important where was that emphasis? Bashing a plugin arguing about a plug-in? HATE Lol… the Pokémon nonsense, In essence tell weaver and others to stay in the kiddo pool. Again lol.
I don't know about audio plugins, but that bass music vest called the Woojer is waaaaay over acted by the people wearing it trying to sell it. I'm sure it's cool, but comon, I doubt it results in reactions the over the top reactions people display on youtube. I usually immediately stop watching ads if they use the annoying, fake enthuaism tactic.
pov: scammed by himself
Yeah, dude's paid off as well. Watch him from time to time on Cubase tuts tho.
Ok wait what the fuck he doesn't know what review is 😅
I watch his videos on Cubasis 3 for iOS.
This guy always sounds like a joke for me😂😂😂😂 i dont know for what i think that; but he never change my mind in anything eheheheheh
I didn't bother clicking on this guy's video, I knew it's click bait from seeing the plugin that he had on his thumbnail and the title he chose.
That video showed up in my feed…made it about halfway though and had to turn it off. Besides the obvious clickbait, he kept rambling on and on about the same thing in an obvious attempt to boost watch time. 😒.
The whole “professional “ environment made me laugh my ass off considering I’ve been doing this probably as long as he’s been alive 😂. I learned on analog equipment…I was splicing tape together before I even learned how to make edits in a digital environment.
I seriously doubt he’s been doing it for “twenty years “, just from looking at his setup. If someone ever wants a perfect example of equipment used as a prop for a video as opposed to functionality. I doubt he even knows the names of anything in the background!
That's Dom.. He was trolling
He was trolling about getting paid to do reviews?
@@Weaverbeats Dude, i like your videos, but youtubers taking sponsorships isnt automatically a bad thing. A good youtuber will reject sponsorships from companies/products that arent good, and refuse to talk positive about a product that doesnt hold up. A lot of great youtubers do this. A bad one will take sponsorships without checking if the product is quality or not, or just take the money even if they know its bad.
And him pointing out how someone never working in a professional environment he lost me there. Most hits are made from home studios
Yes, when you are in a professional studio you will do a blind test between two plugins.........
classic. just classic.
What's the deal w white sea??
Only paid reviews are the main problem, if you pay you will be wise. Companies should be sued for giving their plugins for free..
mid life crisis earring
I'm pretty sure he is talking about Paul Third and White Sea Studios. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think he makes a lot of good points. Mainly that a plugin having oversampling/auto gain compensation etc doesn't make it good or bad and I've seen many people in the online audio community start making these features a bigger deal than they are ever since these guys have been doing their plugin reviews. But he also acknowledges that it doesn't mean that these features don't matter and it can be valuable to analyze plugins in plugin doctor for example but at the end of the day we will use the tools that get the job done the best for us regardless of oversampling/auto gain compensation etc. Also by professional mixing environment I think he means in a environment you are using to work on professional audio jobs, not necessarily a half a million dollar studio or something so yes that could be your bedroom if that is where you are getting paid to work. But just to be clear I don't think that we as audio engineers shouldn't be critical about plugins, it's just that I think some people get distracted and caught up by these things instead of focusing on the craft of creating music.
Yeah, seconded.
It's alot of RUclips people be side dissing on da low lol you know who they most likely talking about they don't say no names lol there's rules to da RUclips game lol 🤣 😂
