I absolutely share your passion for the autogain feature issue. It's simply absurd that plugins companies that ask you to pay even hundreds of euros for a plugin, do not understand that for people who work ITB, that's simply a necessary feature. At least until computers companies won't implement the possibility to use two mouses (or mice??) at the same time 😅
The tragedy is that this entire plugin *and much more* can be achieved with the Fire distortion plugin for free. That one has compression, a ton of different distortion patterns (that you can choose), bit crush, widening (not Haas kind of widening), bias and phasing factors, all the scopes you could need, filtering... And it's a multiband distortion too! Oh and it has some autogain. It's not perfect, but it certainly helps.

All of these effects and more are in FL Studio's (and most other DAWs') built-in distortion plugin. Just use Distructor if you're using FLS, and if not Melda gives better plugins away for free. You can tell a lot of these companies are preying on people who are new to production and aren't aware of what's available.
Unison, ohhhh dear…. it seems they have moved on from their midi chord packs. A product that you can easily make yourself in an afternoon. Or better yet, use the built in scale assist functions in some DAW’s or even cheap midi controller keyboards. They spent most of their money and resources on obnoxious advertising campaigns.

If you wanna get this plugin, you could literally just get some basic free plugins that will do these things exaxtly the same for free, or you could basically just use stock plugins to be honest XD
Unison is truly an "all marketing, zero quality" company. Absolute monster, a.k.a a loud and distorted mess in a bad way. Seriously, these plugins should be a "5 plugin effect, into 1 knob" kind of thing. Not smth as basic as this
The auto gain issue is bad. Really bad. What I think is equally bad is those companies who make their plugins add a few dB directly when you insert them. Waves, Slate and more do exactly that, fooling people into thinking "Oh, see, it already sounds better even when I haven't done anything!". That for me is enough reason to not buy that plugin. It's stupid.
Actually, the Mangle knob works really good for synths when used subtly. Still, the plugin is missing the auto-gain feature as they want to mislead people like Plugin Alliance in their demos by pumping the volume.
Your reactions are very normal...that company supports stupid people that's just it!!! So, you have to use it with the midi chord pack for the best freaking results!!
I enjoy watching videos trashing this plugin way too much. They also ripped off Gengar from Pokemon for the "monster" on the GUI. You have to look hard to find a shadier audio plugin company than them.
Only 2 mins in and I just love that you actually bought it (for US) to make a snake oil vid! Never stop until they do! PS Rift by minimal audio doesn't let you turn off auto-gain, but still has I/O gain controls and modulation options. Even the might Saturn doesn't auto-gain like that but it is very different and in saturn it's not even an issue for some reason. The different gain affect of the different algorithms makes it just a different "monster" lmao. Oh and I just found Ruina by Noise Engineering, the euro rack gods, and it's free. But not even close to snake oil so no need for a video on those 2 but a fresh distortion shoot out might be fun! Those 3 can only be compared to the mighty Decapitator imho but I'd LOVE to be proven wrong on that! Can you tell I like distortion?
I already knew this was going to bad considering it’s a Unison product, but this is just embarrassingly bad. Not only does it not have gain compensation, it literally doesn’t even have a Dry/Wet knob… possibly the most barebones essential control you could have. On top of that, when every setting is set to zero, it isn’t even neutral (it still raises the gain).
ha ha excatly... at the beginning of the Mangler promo video, the guy says "there will be major volume fluctuation".. and I was already like.. not if you have auto gain.
I got the unison midi chord pack for like 10 bucks when it was on sale which is fine and definitely helpful for writers block sometimes but I found Unison as a whole to be kind of pumping up their products to be much more than they are. they seem to be much more interested in taking your money and trying to scam you into add-ons than they are in helping you create quality music
It's just a fun fashion thing, like wearing a different t-shirt or getting a cool new hair cut. I think Underdog (Belgian techno production channel) painted his nails the other day too.
There are so many plugins like that where; they have a few knobs with buzzwords that don't mean anything and rely on the ambiguity of the consumers to think its good. It's also very common that they're always on sale.. which pretty much means that's their selling price but they lie about it to make it sound like its a good deal.
