    Excellent presentation on the " surface mode " this is. Very many intriguing workflow potentials are hidden under that humble option simply titles " PATCH " ... recently changed to " SURFACE ". Thank you Lars foe another great tutorial.

      I noticed F360 has changed a bit since this Patch mode. When you create a cylinder under sculpt, it is automatically enclosed at the ends.

    Thanks for the video, Lars. BTW - when you were having trouble selecting surfaces to be trimmed because other surfaces were getting in the way, I find that simpl hiding the interfering surfaces allows me to easily select the surface I want.

    I'm using the patches to cover up features in order to get CAM to cut properly. Ex: roughing that doesn't follow every dip and curve. Sometimes it treats the patches as part of the model, other times it treats them as part of the stock. I've spent hours trying to figure out why. If anyone can tell me how I can select, how fusion treats the patch(as part of the model or part of the stock) I'd be very grateful!

    What is the difference between extrude and press pull? Also if you extrude a solid body in patch, can it still be cut with the "blankets" or does it have to be a "shell".
    ? Thanks Lars.

    After you 'stitch' a body you can not edit the form again in 'sculpt', right? So we should stitch at the end of our design process when we are 100% sure about the shape.

      Lars Christensen I think this kind of answered my question I asked about going from model into sculpt. I drew a circle in model, extruded it, then went into the sculpt environment and tried to convert it into T splines (like part one of your hammer video ), this does not work. You suggested clicking on "body" on the left. Unfortunately when you go into sculpt "body" on the left is gone. Maybe be a follow up on ways to go from model to sculpt would be nice. I always like/learn from your videos. Thanks Dave.

    Hey Lars, can a tool be used (any shape made, letter for instance) to push a surface, say like embossing or stamping into a surface. Thanks for all your great videos bud!
    PS: I should clarify. What I am not talking about is using the combine to use geometry to cut into a surface. What I mean is, think of pushing a letter or shape into a block of clay. You would get the impression but also the deformation around the imprint, the curves the folds and so on. I hope this clears up my question!

    Do patches require 4 sides or can the number of sides be anything? I have tried using patches and while the geometry is complexe, the system just doesn't want to solve and sometimes crashes...
    I have been using splines because the shapes I need to produce are unique. What's going on here???

    I could not stitch when I made the cylinder with extruded splines. I found the problem is that you can not have overhanging surfaces when you stitch. I had trimmed the cylinder but still had overhanging surfaces from the splines. *IT ALL NEEDS TRIMMING BEFORE STITCH*

    Lars! I love you channel and have learned so much from you, so thanks! Right now I have a problem and hope you can help me. I had a STEP file given to me to work on. The problem is that some of the components in that 3D file are actually just SURFACE BODIES and not SOLID. I really need to convert them to SOLID. Can you please help me with this? I find this problem pretty frequently when I get models from surface designers...so it would probably be helpful to other people as well. I can give you an example file if you need...

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

      Hi Chris Parker Thank you for watching!
      Yes, this can be a problem. If the model is not watertight, then you will end up with surface bodies. The only thing you really can do is to get into the patch area and try stitch things together. You can send me the model if you like and I can see if I can use it on a livestream. lars.christensen@autodesk.com
      Best,Lars

    • @chrisparker80
      @chrisparker80 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply, Lars! I think I figured it out...if I unstitch the body and then re-stitch it with a greater gap tolerance, then it seems to work.
      I would think a short lesson on surface bodies vs. solid bodies and how to convert them may be a good quick lesson. It seems like often when I import STEP files from other programs, Fusion creates surface bodies automatically and I need to go and convert them in order to modify.
      All the best and keep doing what you're doing!

      Hi Jacob S. Thank you for watching!
      I was luckily not affected by re-organization. I think most of the people who were affected will find other/new positions within Autodesk. It was less cuts, but more an attempt to center the focus on the important products. Fusion 360 is for sure one of those.

    Well, I've watched all your videos and have become very proficient in the solid modelling environment but I have to say that I still don't know why, and under what circumstances, I would enter the Patch environment.
    Your example of cutting an extruded hollow (Patch) body by the two splines is interesting but seriously, I think one could do the same with a couple of sketches and extrudes (cut).
    I think we need to expand on this subject. Frankly, I see no benefit to this at all....My confusion likely is rooted in the examples you're giving because I can't relate to them and frankly, will likely never be in a situation to carry out those kinds situations. Perhaps more real world examples are called for here.

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  5 лет назад

      Thank you for spending your time watching the videos! In my opinion, with the Sculpt workspace in Fusion 360 there are not much use for surfacing modeling anymore, other than maybe trying to stitch surface scan data together.

    • @brandonblair6529
      @brandonblair6529 5 лет назад +1

      Patch environment allows you to get to those complex multi curved shapes quickly, rather than build alot of sketches and try to cut your way to the shape you want the patch surface allows you to make a few profiles and rails and boom you have a car body. Also the patch environment is the space where you can extrude sketch lines that can be used for trim tools in the solid environment. Certain shapes are just easier with those tools, same goes for sculpt tools. I think the idea modeler would use all 3 environments and their strengths. Also the more complex the shape / organic the more likely you will lean on the patch environment. Its also used to clean up the models, for example did you know the remove command in the patch environment works differently than in the solid one? You can delete surfaces with out having them replaced then patch and stitch, leading to a cleaner surface depending on the situation. Scope this out. ruclips.net/video/Gf1lNAGEalQ/видео.html
