My DeTomaso Pantera Arrives And I Come Close To Wrecking It - Pt3

- Опубликовано: 15 май 2024
- It almost went SO wrong - Last year I went to Oklahoma in The USA to buy my dream project car, a Detomaso Pantera. After 6 long months it has finally arrived and I get busy straight away on stripping it ready for paint. But as I start to lift the engine out things start to go badly wrong..
It's finally here.. and i come very close to wrecking it

Original lime all the way. Suits the car the best and whilst the Miura lime does "pop" more, having an original colour is always best for classics in my opinion.
Agreed. The Miura lime is a beautiful color but it decidedly a mid 60s color whereas the olive hue of the Pantera lime shows the evolved color tastes of the early 70s and fits the Pantera's 70's wedge better
For me has to be the lime green ….. lambo style 😎👌🏽
True story.
@Flared it's the law. Original lime
Agree, original lime.
De Tomaso's original lime colour for me
Well said that man
@@rossbright1123 Agreed!
Agreed
Same here !
Agree
Original lime ❤ that hint of olive adds refinement.
Lime !!!
Original Lime all the way, no contest.
You will have jaws dropping everywhere that car appears.
Original Lime Green......it's the only option. It's going to look epic Jack !
Yea, I like the lime green one too, and I think the touch of olive is nice and adds to the 70's feel. Suits it well and I prefer it to the Miura color. Blue one is good too, but the green is ahead.
Original Lime every time 👍😍. Good shout on the wheels and tyres too - there’s a recent interview with Valentino Balboni (Lamborghini’s test driver for years) where he tells of how the Pirelli P7’s transformed both the Countach and Pantera and made them much nicer to drive 😊
Original lime. Captures the car and the period.
Original lime. I'd want to keep with the factory colors.
This was my childhood bedroom poster car. The thought of heading down to the local Lincoln Mercury dealer with 10,000 1970 USD in hand to buy one was simply amazing.
LIME--- perfect color for the period. You can get that blue on a modern Kia today but, not that lime. Celebrate the era of that car in everyway. You will not be disappointed!
I'd go for the Pantera lime green. The Miura color is cooler, maybe, but I'd take one in which it was originally painted. And man, you can not get more early seventies vibes than in a lime green car.
Pretty much anything from the early 1970s Mopar catalog would be cool. Hemi Orange, Plum Crazy Purple, SubLime. All would be cool.
There is only one true colour for this beast: Original lime of course😎
Original lime will look fantastic. It suits the car and era the best.
Jack, LIME GREEN may be the ULTIMATE statement colour for a 1970's performance automobile.
Original lime, in the US most Panteras I remember seeing were black or silver - a green one would not be forgotten.
Another vote for the original Lime. I think that it will contrast better with the black interior, whilst maintaining some essence of originality.
I like the blue ....I'm a mustang guy, and always liked that blue. In the 90s I got to work on a Pantera that had some front damage, and after we finished it, I got to drive it, what a car, loved it. Stan, the guy who owned it was sending it overseas because it was sold. It was red.... he painted it 1979 Toyota lip stick red. nice color. I'm in the U.S.
It has to be the original lime. So glad you are on the way with the Pantera. Excellent.
The car is going to be amazing, but let's be honest, Pistacchio is the real star here 😻
Absolutely!
Meow!
The tyre guy certainly knows his stuff. Very comprehensive overview
Jack, this is a mega project, you started with a thousand parts and stripped it down to where you now have three thousand parts. I am really looking forward to seeing it go back together, especially with the original lime green body color. We would see a lot of these cruising on Pacific Coast Highway back in the 80s we don't see so many these days.
Best of luck with the project.
100% original lime. Enjoy the build.
The lime immediately made me think "Miura". If I was lucky enough to be making this decision I'd opt for the original De Tomaso lime green. It looks incredible.
Jack, I lived in the Atlanta area for a few years, and one day as I was driving by a supermarket, I noticed a car show in their parking lot. I usually did not stop by that sort of thing to take a look, for the simple fact that most of the cars, if not all, were what people in the US refer to as muscle cars, and others from the '50s, '40s and '30s, and were simply not my cup of tea, but one afternoon, one stood out like a sore thumb, a medium blue Pantera. It was stunningly beautiful! And I must say I have never seen one in a nicer color. Simply gorgeous! After a while, once the novelty wears off, the lime green would start to look boring, for lack of a better word, the medium blue, on the other hand, you would simply love every single day, and never grow tired of it.
Thirty seconds in and the neighbours are thinking 'oh no, what's Jack been buying'.
Seconds later thinking 'at least we're not next to Sam at Hard Up Garage'.
Top stuff Jack. This is a series we'll all love.
The lime green fits the car very well, the shade is up to you. The mag alloy wheels look fantastic.
They do look amazing don't they!!
has to be lime with mags
@@Number27 its got to be lime jack :)
You have a lot of work to go, mate. Why did you put the priority and resources up front in the tires and wheels? I guess it’s a shot of energy like morning coffee to trudge thru the restoration. Grassroots Motorsports magazine has a recent great article stating that a key in a restoration is to put steady planned time into it while balancing other demands of our lives. Good luck and thanks for your documenting the ‘nerdy details’ of your work and successful progress.
@tomy8450 Those wheels are in very finite supply; get them while you can.
Has to be the original DeTomaso lime green!
Hydraulic roller = 351 - works really well !
It’s original lime for me, really suits it, looking forward to the journey
Original lime green! I'm already really into this rebuild series. Probably the most exotic project since the Ferrari; more so considering the relaive rarity. The wheels are perfect.
Lime green - so fits with the period.
Original lime green would be my choice Jack. As well as being model correct, its so in keeping with the time it was made. Good luck with the build, its going to be an interesting watch!
A real real pleasure to hear the arguments of the tireman!
6:14. I didn't know Pantera's of that era came with cats!
Considering I wrote up a work order today where one of the labor procedures was 'remove cat', I was cracking up at that scene 😹
Lovely motor impressive workmanship just be careful spraying wd40 near the car it’s the last thing you need around a car before painting it
Original Lime, hands down.
Without a doubt, the original Lime. So good! Oh for a tan interior 🤩
Dougal is a total tyre geek. Fair play.
Miura green is stunning but that baby blue is just beautiful.
This, that blue is great. The other one reminds of a French blue that Bugatti used to like and was the national racing color.
Yup. It's the mid Green for me without question. Less obvious but more stunning.
IMO if I went down the route of painting it blue I would choose the blue used on the Lancia Stratos. As per the possible switch out too Lambo lime it’s a bolder shade of blue.
Lime green all the way in the original factory colour - it looks sublime!
Well said. Fun fact: From 1969 to 1971, Mopars could be ordered in a range of "High-impact colors" with very creative names. The same colours had different names for Dodge and Plymouth and the almost exact same shade of lime as the original Pantera lime was called by Dodge "SubLime".
Love the Pantera Lime... it has its own unique tone that varies from Porsche & the Miura, cant wait to see what you choose either way...
Original lime is my vote from the Ozarks. I have Pepper Green 1970 GTO, the color it came from the factory with, and the darkest green offered in 70. I really think you'll be happier in the long run with a color that would have been offered originally, and the Lime is the best of the 3 originals, IMO. Love your channel!
its already looking fine in black, with those wheels
I like the none standard wheels better agree on the black
@@rocklover7437 but, I have to say the Lime color is also great
Hello Jack! Me here. Panthera Lime all day long. What a truly great car you have bought. Double thumbs up from the Forest of Blackness in Germany.
Original lime without a doubt, it looks stunning on the car! Good luck and keep the content coming, it’s fascinating. 🙏👍
You're certainly not wasting any time Jack, great update. Original Lime.... suits the lines of the car much better. A great colour
I remember in '73 or '74, as an impressionable 12 or 13 year old, seeing a Pantera for the first time in the paddock at Brands. It was the lime and absolutely stunning even for the time when colours were everywhere.
Same time and age for me too, but it was careering past us on the motorway going to the S of France. This one was red and it was hard to know which was more exciting, a Pantera or a Ferrari.
When I was a kid...born in 1971....my godfather had one of these cars. His family owned the local Ford dealerships and he acquired one. I remember it was the blue color. He kept it in his basement garage and I vividly remember him saying he had a "dragon" in his basement.....he would go downstairs and crank it up and rev the engine! Then he turned off the lights and popped the headlights and I would come down to see the "Dragon":)
I'm really happy for you!! This looks like an amazing project and I know you're going to have a ball restoring that magnificent machine. Your wheels look amazing!
Good luck with it and can't wait for updated episodes!
Classic no.27 video. Back to the old skool Jack! Loved every minute. Lime green original is my choice
Original lime. Looking forwards to this series.
Using a dodgy old engine lift like that on car like this, and on top lift the engine with the gearbox still attached is madness I love it!
I can remember one of my grandparent's neighbors having one of these in yellow.
I was around eight years old and thought what a waste for such an old man to have a car like that when in reality he was only in his mid-50s at the time.
He would back it out of the garage on Saturday or Sunday drive it to get a coffee and a donut then come home and wash it and leave it on the driveway until it started to get dark and then pull it into the garage until the next weekend.
When I was a kid my friend's next door neighbor had a red Formula Firebird. 80 years old walked with a cane, hunched over. Picture Abe Bagoda, yet... older looking seen gis wife go with him too.
Another vote for the Original Lime from me Jack. Looking forward to seeing progress on this one.
Original lime 100%. Stunning colour.
Original Lime feels like the correct way to go.
Oh, and I ❤ Pistacchio! Deserves his own channel.
The color black is just beautiful on your Pantera. I would leave it exactly as is, no color change. Aloha!!!!
Very iconic car ! I like the lime but I would go for the blue, it's more classy
original lime looks perfect ...go for it .
Lime green end of .The blue looks like what BL were using on the Allegros Marinas and Maxis
Quite. But they all seem to be coming back into fashion for some reason. To me they're all too flat but the colour that really has me baffled, but which I've seen on BMWs and a Volvo SUV, is Battleship Gray. It still looks no better than when I was painting Airfix models as a child and you can bet it'll knock 20% off the resale value when it falls out of fashion.
Original lime, a car like that deserves to be standard
Jack - Great Video and I'm looking forward to watching all the progress with the Pantera! Original Lime all the way - what a super cool colour which will cause whiplash for most onlookers!
Miura Lime. Every time you walk away from the car you'll wish you'd gone all in and gone for a mad super car colour. It's a bonkers car, so have a bonkers colour as a tribute to everything over the top about the 70s.
Lots of people saying originality of a factory colour but I agree with you. It's jack's car, if he prefers miura lime green, just go for it as I think that original lime just doesn't pop in the same way
Miura lime all the way.....
Miura lime is so 70's. I had a 1973 RX2 and loved that colour with the tan interior, never had trouble finding it in the car park, not that you can't miss such a distinctive shape with the Pantera lol.
Lambo Lime! though it might hinder you getting a Classiche Cert.😉
Cat needs to do a health and safety course ....
Yeah, cute cat. But his OSHA credentials need a bit of updating. 😸
It's a RUclips video, the cat is the producer/director.
Yeah should have a hard hat and a high vis at least.😺
Miura green would look amazing...its a restored and lightly modified car so you're not ruining any provenance...
Oh man, I am super excited! And I am just sitting here on my couch watching your channel. I cant imagine how you must feel. The De Tomaso is here! What an exciting car it is. You were lucky to ship it with all that stuff in the car. Entering the US it has to be empty. Or so I was told when exploring to bring my car with me. Finally, work in progress videos! I am even more excited about that. I love your test drive videos, however I miss the famous DIY Influenzo videos. For color - Original Lime please! Campagnolo rims! I was into race bikes (pedal bikes) and Campagnolo made an art of the gearshift and brakes as only the Italians can. And they obviously did the same with those BEAUTIFUL rims. For color - Original Lime please! Nice garage doors by the way. Oh, and please say PSPSPSS to the cat. For color - Original Lime please!
Amazing video Jack, it is back to origins and I am totally hooked with the Pantera. Original lime it is for me!
Without a shadow of a doubt its the lime Green for me Jack.... Its perfect to match the super car looks, oh im talking Lambo lime buddy 😍👍
Thank you dude..
that's what i'm leaning towards too right now..
@@Number27 yeah it'll look fantastic in that colour Jack 👍
Orange orange orange
@@Number27 NOOO!! Only an original De Tomaso colour, please!
It has to be the ORIGINAL DeTomaso green.... I'm sure it will add value ....? And it will look so good...!
Also I'd like to say that the videos are great, the music and overall presentation is improving every episode...!
Keep up the good work 😀
The turquoise blue it is similar to the colour of the DeTomaso flag. For me the favourite colour for this car, no doubt.
Definitely the original De Tomaso lime green, great colour
Pantera was always one of my favorites despite motoring journalist looked down on it back in the day for not being a reel Italian. If you go for the early, less agressive look the original lime will be a great choice. Later version is best in the darker maroon red. I missed the Oklahoma video. Will look it up to see how this started. Good luck with the project!!!
Original lime for sure! The Miura lime belongs to the Miura....honour the Detomaso
if your channel doesn't blow up with this content no channel will! Good on you, you deserve it. Keep up the good work and keep feeding us vidjayos of this one and all the random bits and pieces you shoot, I do appreciate your content.
Good to see an update on the Pantera. Original Lime Green for me.......I do actually prefer the Muira shade but, for me, it needs to be an original colour :)
Very excited to watch this build. 😁
I'd pick the original lime.
Another original lime colour fan here.👌
I'm sure the Medium blue is the same as Fords Grabber blue.
If you want a green, also look at the 1969 Ford "Poppy Green", this colour was only available in the "California Rainbow of Colors" promotion.
Its absolutely got to be the ORIGINAL Lime green. 👍🏻
go with the baby blue
original Lime. Wow thats a lot of work in this episode. Great work. Entertaining. Music while taking apart was great.
Not a fan of green for cars but The Pentera Lime makes the car look even more perfect.
Lime-green! So stunning and period correct!
lime all day :) Miura lime that is
Just brilliant Jack, I wish you all the best for this epic build. Oh and Lime... john
Original Lime, no question!😊
Paint it bright pink. Fitting for this car and the emergency services will find you quicker when it doesn't turn into a corner! Just kidding, Original Silver.
See I'm with you if it was sliver to start with then it should go back to that
Lime every time! The Pantera is a stunning car deserving of a stunning colour. Just do it, you know it makes sense!!! Haha
My next door neighbor has the blue, and it's the original paint as he bought the car new in 1973. This blue is a beautiful color and would probably be my pick. However, I know a Pantera owner who I've met several times at Pantera get togethers over the years who has the lime green one as well. He's also owned it from new, and it's equally stunning. And compared to the Miura's lime, the little bit of olive in the Pantera lime, I believe gives it more depth than the Miura's color, so that if you went with the green, I would stay closer to the original. Either the blue or lime will make a gorgeous car. Of course, my red over black beltline is still my favorite. Good luck with your decision. I can't wait to see the car finished and you driving it with that big giggly smile on your face.
Jack it’s got to be that original lime. Looks so good in that colour
Jack, I lived in southern California in the 70's so I saw my fair share of Panteras. I respectfully submit that yellow was THE color. If that's totally unacceptable than the Miura green.
They do look really good in yellow.
If it was me, I'd go with Muira yellow, but 2nd choice is lime green, but with a close third, the blue. The black takes away its style and makes it look like a kit car, So glad youve got the right wheels, its going to be beautiful!!
Blue is the prettiest for this car I think. Blue>black>everything else.
I'm with most of the others, here. Deffo original lime. Epic colour.
I like the lime green from Pantera list. Also I’ve seen many shots of Panteras with a duo tone which look epic.
Looking forward to seeing your choice…
I think the Miura lime green would look great. Love the wheels too! Really looking forward to seeing this project come together.
Original lime green is the only option, good luck with the project
All those colours are amazing Jack. I have a Fulvia in an aqua colour (turchese mereveld) so my vote goes to that. It’s the kind of colour that photographs different EVERY SINGLE TIME, so impossible to rely on pictures
Dark maroon red would be my choice
Beautifully filmed video Jack, and what a magic project. Back to form of the influenzo and old 964 days. Can’t wait to see it evolve.
The original lime is fabulous
I normally don’t like yellow sports cars. However, in my youth near my Junior High School, there was a tropical fish store. The owner usually kept his factory yellow Pantera on the street. Perfect, and when I see one today in this color, which was a common hue, I get sweaty.
