I used your idea and altered it to a testfor elytra (slot 102b) and than an execute/detect for 1 air block under @a with the tp command (which is brilliantly simple, instead of using the hitbox) . When your on the ground you than do not "hop", but off the ground you have the lift. Many thanks for the eyeopener!

this is NOT survival friendly. try doing it without access to creative and commands...
you dont need a 0 after the ~ tildas you can just put the ~ tilda.
ik that this is maybe a bad technic aber you can also use /forceload command to always have something loaded so you dont need a npc

I know this is old, but just crank up the number in the second command block, and you can go much faster up.
