How to get Ubuntu 18.04 (Linux) on a Mac running macOS or Mac OS X. This process is called a dual boot.

Ubuntu ISO: www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
Command to run in Ubuntu to install rEFInd:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rodsmith/refind && sudo apt update && sudo apt install refind && sudo refind-mkdefault
If you are having any issues with WiFi in Ubuntu, go to askubuntu.com/a/470347 for instructions on how to get it working.

Hi Greg, I was able to get your Bootable Drive Maker app copied over to my Tiger 10.4 system but when I tried to run it, the icon shows that it's starting but one second later it just disappears and nothing happens. Is 10.4 too old for your dmg?
Do you have to use refind or can you keep the boot manager
Because I do have a very old Mac Mini, which can only handle MacOS 10.6.8, I have to use the drivemaker.bash document. How do I use this, can anybody tell?? Thanks a lot in advance!

Worked great! I was able to install Ubuntu on an old 2011 Macbook air. The only issue I had was when I went to install the software for the boot screen, it didn't work. But no big deal. I can just hold down option when I restart to pick which partition I want to boot into.

Just followed the video on a Mac Mini and it worked perfectly! Only thing I did differently was used Balena Etcher to make the bootable USB :)

Do you not need to formatting the bootable usb stick first into max extended journal? Without that it will not boot.
For some reason this isn't working for me. When I boot from EFI it doesn't boot into Unbuntu its like its trying to find the mac os on the usb

I’ve never been so grateful for a tutorial in life !!! Thank you so much ... this worked like a charm without hassle Only issue : I had to wipe my whole disk and partition the drives from fresh Mac OS install .. Other than that ... sweet !

Hey! does th ebootable drive maker for mac work on catalina? for me it appears copying file to location and then just process finished but it dosent appear as a bootable device...
It doesn’t work I used windows app that make the flash bootable and then restart the system while pressing alt to choose the boot drive (I forgot the app name+I can’t boot to windows any more)( T ʖ̯ T)

2022, I watch this to dual boot Ubuntu 18.04 on MacBook Pro 2017. Some problem I have encountered when boot Ubuntu 20.04 directly, so I boot 18.04 and then upgrade to 20.04

ik that this is maybe a bad technic aber you can also use /forceload command to always have something loaded so you dont need a npc

Using Linux on a partition should be much better than using a VM as it would be using the full capabilities of your computing power as opposed to having to divide your resources between mac OS and your Linux virtual machine.
