Thanks! You made me feed like a IT wizard and I've had 3 glasses of wine before I started this. You're a great teacher. Best Ubuntu/Mac video there is. Genius
I used your video to dual boot Elementary OS and Mojave on a 2012 Mac Pro. Some of the screens looked a little different and a one of the terminal commands was not necessary. But, hey, after two years of updates, I am not surprised.Worked perfectly! Thanks!
Thanks for this great instructional. I salvaged two early 2008 Macs and have reliable hardware for my kids to participate in remote learning during social distancing. Can't thank you enough!
Im a newbie who has only used terminal to do some basic things in the mac OS. I decided to start learning a Linux system since I had mac three laptops - a new one, a mid 2012 (the swiss army knifr that can have an internal RAID), and an old but well working 2010. So i decided to give it a go and either brick my 2010 or turn it into a dual boot to learn Unix (I have some servers I want to build so I need to learn it somewhere!) I thought it would be a daunting, horrific test of my limited skills. Granted, I made a misstep when creating three partitions on my mac, but other than that little 'hiccup - the instructions were pure butter. Easy to use, easy to understand, and after two hours I have a fully working dual boot machine that seems to have no issues at all. Thanks!
Thank you very much. I have both MacOs and Ubuntu on my Mac. Only difference is that I used balenaEtcher for bootable USB. The partition size is 25gb for Linux and 8gb for SWAP. You are a great Instructor. I appreciate your efforts and time.
First thing’s first, thank you for sacrificing you time to help us! Really appreciate it. There are many things in the video that weren’t mentioned such as trackpad/keyboard not working as well as other potential errors; yet again, it’s practically impossible to point out every problem as there are many different scenarios you could come across. If anyone does get an error, just search it online. There are hundreds or tutorials out there. For things I could help out: Trackpad/keyboard - I had to purchase a wired keyboard and a mouse to install ubuntu. Then I followed a quick guide on how to enable them Wifi - basic commands are in the link in the description. In order to do these, you need a wired internet (ethernet or wired mobile hotspot (3g))
Dude you are a legend but I am not sure which posture you were sitting while making this video. I could see it on the screen. Made me laugh so many times. And many thanks. You made my day. Many blessings to you.
very clear step by step information. i followed the instructions exactly as per video and was able to successfully install ubuntu 20.04 Thank you very much
Thank you so much, a really great review that helped me get a dual boot on my old imac. Great! For those of you experiencing problems with connecting wireless apple keyboard: First remove the battery lid and turn it on again. Then use an old wired mouse and click 'bluetooth'. Connect to the keyboard and enter the code prompted on the screen.
When I partitioned, my Ubuntu partition became hfs+ formatted even though I specified fat32. However, the Ubuntu installer was still able to format hfs+ to ext4. Yay!
Brilliant! Thanks so much. This worked mostly seamlessly for a 12-core, twin monitor Mac Pro (late 2013). The one issue was that Mac OS Disk Utility would not partition my internal SSD initially. The fix was to use Bootcamp - or at least the first few screens of Bootcamp that cleaned up my SSD, then I exited Bootcamp before installing Windows. And then, Disk Utility was able to partition the internal HD.
I’ve never been so grateful for a tutorial in life !!! Thank you so much ... this worked like a charm without hassle Only issue : I had to wipe my whole disk and partition the drives from fresh Mac OS install .. Other than that ... sweet !
Very good video! The Intel Mac is an excellent computer to use for dual booting as even the older ones with Intel Core "I" processors still have plenty of life in them and will continue to be useful for years to come with Ubuntu Linux as an option. Once Apple decides to completely abandon Intel for their own in-house M1's processors, Ubuntu will still be able to be updated and keep these older Macs viable.
Worked great! I was able to install Ubuntu on an old 2011 Macbook air. The only issue I had was when I went to install the software for the boot screen, it didn't work. But no big deal. I can just hold down option when I restart to pick which partition I want to boot into.
Thank you so much. Only issue I had is I had error is creating swap. But my MacBook has 8GB RAM so I don’t think it would be a big issue. The rest works all fine. Really appreciate it. Thanks
Thanks man for this awesome tech tutorial. This worked well and I really appreciate it. Please make more amazing videos like these....I have subscribed
To anybody who is using Ubuntu with MacBook Pro (Early 2011), or possibly another setup with the same issue, partitioning disks from within macOS may cause unintended changes, like the swap space being way bigger than you instructed. Partitioning the disk from the DIsk Utility in Recovery Tools may or may not solve the issue. Edit: it appears that you should use the Disk Utility in Recovery Tools instead of partitioning the disk in macOS. Also, you should slice the disk into two parts (without swap space) first in Disk Utility, then format it into fat32 and add a partition for swap area in gparted in the Ubuntu live session.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial it worked like a charm. The issue is . . . I don't want it anymore, what I have read suggests simply deleting the partitions but my OS actually won't let me do that. If you are still making videos and want to make an uninstall version that would be ace!
You've prolly figured it out by now as its 9 months later, but just take the harddrive itsself out and reformat it from anoother computer works easy. If you dont have a hdd adapter, any 5$ one on amazon will work :Q
Now is 2020. The video still works for me. Only one difference: when using refine to log into the mac system, I have 3 options: one is Windows. Use this one will lead to the missing operating system.... Turn off the mac by long taping the power button and then start the mac. You will see the interface showed in the video. Not sure if it is only my mac did this.
daughter is stoked, she just installed Ubuntu 20.04 using your tutorial. she has 2 macbooks that she upgraded to el capitan but is to slow. told her about linux and dual booting she decided to try and she's very happy. "Thumbs Up High Fives!!!" i Like, OLE'!
For those who aren’t getting the refind screen on restart (so only seeing Mac and not Ubuntu) when I did a start up from shut down, not restart, I got the option for Ubuntu
Thanks! You made me feed like a IT wizard and I've had 3 glasses of wine before I started this. You're a great teacher. Best Ubuntu/Mac video there is. Genius
I've had an old MacBook Pro kicking around for ages collecting dust and thanks to your fantastic how-to, I now has a new life! Thanks so much!

Just as an update, this tutorial is still on point. Only difference is I used unetbootin to create the bootable usb. Thank you very much, sir :)
