@@jimmyst-jean2214 - James clearly has more race experience but Garret is super smart and has incredibly hand to eye coordination. The way he handled that last race was incredible. To come within .05 of a car that was 4-5 tenths quicker all day was amazing. I don’t think ANYONE could have done a better job.

@@jadenriley5621 well it depends where his pick up tube is for the oil in the oil pan because if it is in the back then when he decelerate all the oil will go to the fount of the engine so the oil is not being pumped thru the engine

Yes he does. He never hogs the credit. Most guys successful to that point are always "me" and "I" when things go right, and "we" and "us" when things don't go right, cleetus is the same win or lose. I wish I was fortunate enough to be part of that ride with them even if just support staff or driver or mechanic, just to be surrounded by people like him and be a part of that environment. He is genuinely good people and James to. Those who get to be around them are lucky cuz there's not a lot of people like that in this world. That, to me, is one of the reasons he has such a fallowing aside from the great content.

That staging battle reminded me of the good ole pro stock days of warren Johnson and Bob Glidden, Melting each other down... LOL.
@@nickvanrooyen3247 there are two staging bulbs, the pre stage and stage, which represent two beams that cross the track. As soon as you hit the first beam you are in pre stage. You then have about 7 inches that you have to cover to break the stage beam and light up the second set of lights. This is typically what most drivers will do. As soon as the stage beam is broken in one lane, the other lane has a limited amount of time to stage. You can roll forward even further until your front tire is no longer breaking the pre stage beam as long as you keep the staging beam broken, otherwise you will red light. This is called deep staging, which is not a common practice. The gamble with deep staging is you have less room for error. If you shallow stage you can launch earlier and have more room for error and less chance of redlighting. Shallow staging will produce a faster ET, but slower reaction time since you basically have more distance to cover before you cross the "starting line", and vice versa.

Its to get in their head and get them flustered so they dq themselves because they got impatient. Can't do it so much in the nhra they will red light you for not staging in a certain amount of time
@@richiet6381 it's a mind game. Called burning 'em down. Most race cars can't sit there and idle for too long, they'll get too hot. But both those cars are streetcars so they were waiting for the other to light the first bulb (pre-stage). When the Mustang finally did Ruby pulled in and the mustang went deep stage (went past the first beam) causing him to not be able to time the lights right.
There is a lot to it, but you will see the racers on a pro tree (three yellows at once then green) lift off the brake when the yellows light, that way when the green lights they are already rolling but still covering the second beam and the timer hasn't started yet. Cleet clears the second beam 0.02 seconds after it turns green. In this instance, the mustang was too deep, and couldn't time the light right. That's why Cleet was out a car length on the start, he got the jump. It is all about timing.

@Samuel Eden He didn’t jump, you can go before the green light you just can’t pass the lasers before it turns green.
@Samuel Eden the whole point of the tree is a fair race, the beam is a couple of inches in front of where you stage. The whole point is to leave before it's green so the car will load up and start moving before it's green, but not brake the beam before it turns green. It's the same for both sides and the tree allways drops at the same speed. So know how your car reacts and how deep you staged is all part of it
@Samuel Eden you NEVER go on green. Your mind has to react, the throttle has to react, the transmission has to react, the tires have to react, then the car finally moves and has to roll forward a couple inches to trip the beams. If you wait for green your left in the dust by someone who knew how to time the reaction. Always leave on triple yellow on a pro tree or the last yellow on a sportsman tree.....

Only thing I’d change would be more boost and a air shifter because in a race like that know your the underdog already it’s easy to miss a shift it’s the best thing I’ve ever invested in for everyone of my cars and in my diesel race truck..
Another thing that helps on time is move one front wheel a little forward or one a little back. I can't remember the exact rule but I think it's around an inch difference you can have.

@@mikeymasi Whoever pre-stages first doesn't mean anything as far as who has to stage first, and it looked like Cleet only used about 4 of the 7 seconds to stage, so not exactly a burn down that he could've pushed for if he wanted to be a dork, certainly a long staging battle for the books but nothing was keeping the stang from staging either, also did a monster burnout across the beans and took his sweet time getting pre-staged, all good stuff until someone gets their feelings hurt...lol.
