I saw this in the theatre. I saw all of his movies in the theatre. MJF was my generation. I miss the charm of an actor like him. I remember standing in line to see Back to the Future. My girlfriend and I were talking about how much we loved MJF as Alex P. Keaton. 2 hours later he was no longer Alex P. Keaton. As a Canadian I can say the 2 most loved Canadians in our History are Michael J. Fox & John Candy.

Thanks for reacting to this! It's one of my favorite rom-coms, and just has this little bit of added depth and soulfulness. I also interviewed David Ogden Stiers for a few hours back in 2004 or so, and he talked about how meaningful it was to play the mayor. (His talk with Ben about what really matters in life is one of the most beautiful moments for me in any movie, ever.) I love this and rewatch it every few years -- it was also filmed not far from my hometown in Florida, so it definitely reminds me of home.

I saw this in the theaters back in the day. Now, as a married father of two boys, I appreciate it all the more. There’s something to be said about living more simple life with the person you truly love, and I think that’s what this movie has to say. Plus, there is so many lovable characters in that town, and they all really appreciated Doc Stone. Anyway, this movie is sort of the opposite o The Secret of My Success.

This movie was a huge turning point in Fox's life. It was while shooting that he noticed tremors in one of his fingers, and he was diagnosed with Parkinson's and told that he probably only had a few more years before he'd have to retire from acting. Of course he proved that prognosis wrong.

Fox was a principal actor on a sitcom called Family Ties (1982) - liberal, radical (hippie) parents end with a son who turns out to be an ambitious, Regan Era, young republican. The lake is an actual location on the grounds of Camp Shands FL, Boy Scout camp. When I went there as an Eagle Scout shortly after the movie release , the facade of the cabin was still standing, almost as if they just finished filming. The interior cabin scenes were shot elsewhere, as was the rest of the movie. But any scene featuring the exterior of the cabin, or the lake, was shot on Camp Shands. Michael J Fox had left an autographed picture the camp had framed, where he signed it & added “go for the eagle”, as I recall - referring of course to Eagle Scout, the highest rank. That was really neat to see. Great movie! So happy you reviewed this!
Several people have posted on youtube their self guided tours of filming locations. A good watch, for those who are interested.

Another Michael J Fox comedy I'll give a shout out here is one of his later ones he did with the legendary Kirk Douglas (yes... the original Spartacus; father of Michael Douglas), called, "Greedy".
And I have to recommend "For Love or Money" as one of his better rom-coms.
But my favorite Michael J Fox comedy, I think, would be "The Hard Way" with James Woods.

It says something about "A Real A-hole" on the cake, so...
This is one of those movies I think was on the movie channel at the New Orleans motel I lived at for a while. Either that or it was on HBO a lot a little while later when we lived with one of my mom's friends.

Mrs Movies, you had me wondering where I'd seen that actress before, so here's what Wikipedia had: "Juliet Mia Warner (born 1964/1965)[1] is an American actress. She is best known as Danni on Family Law (1999-2001) and Megan on Nip/Tuck (2003-2006), Elaine in Mr. Saturday Night (1992), Michelle in Tommy Boy (1995), Micki in Wedding Bell Blues (1996), and Dean York in Chalk It Up (2016)." If she was yelling, my money's on Tommy Boy (everyone yells). EDIT: Never mind, you caught it after I posted this, lol.

The main actress I remember from an episode of Star Trek TNG as LaForge's holodeck date...Come to think of it...the mayor was in an episode too.
