Vanilla Ice ("Ice Ice Baby") stole the bass line from Queen (who originally recorded this with David Bowie, so from him too!) There was a lawsuit and Vanilla Ice lost and had to pay up, haha. He tried to claim it was different... but it wasn't. John Deacon did it first!

@@susanadkins6393 - That's a generational thing. Some can't seem to put the dates of the songs together and add 2 + 2, LOL. Vanilla Ice was 12 when Under Pressure was released in 1981. Very much doubt he wrote the bass line at that age prior to Deacon. :)
The lawsuit was upheld. Vanilla Ice did NOT add or delete a single note at all. It was exactly the same. He just dropped a single beat between two notes but every note was identical. Too bad that he was known for that great Deacon riff because he stole someone else's creativity.

Freddie singing and the audience singing it back is something he did at all his live concerts. Playing with the audience was something he enjoyed. That's his thing and the half mic stand. The beat was stolen by Vanilla Ice and he got sued for it. John Deacon(Deaky) wrote this one and killed it on the bass like he always does Queen doesn't have any bad songs. Thank you so much for doing a Queen reaction. Now I can walk through my day happy

Deaky's girl So sad that Freddie died so young and yet he and The other three bandmembers were geniuses. He was like in a typical rock performer and somewhat promiscuous and rowdy, but even in his death God used Freddie to help raise money and more awareness for HIV and AIDS so that there would be better testing and more treatment. It’s amazing to think that for years after Freddie Mercury‘s death, medication had been invented by 1995 to enable people to live a fairly normal life span. All of the band members were hurt and devastated, but I really think that John Deacon took it the hardest. Watching the tribute concert in April 1992, John Deacon was not himself and I don’t know if he smiled the entire concert. He performed for Freddie and everybody paying tribute to the life of Freddie. There was something special about John Deacon when he was the sixth or seventh bass player to audition and play with Queen & he was the one they chose for the long-haul. Freddie Mercury said in an interview in the mid-1980s that John was the best bass player they had but he also fit in with the rest of the boys. Freddie said that the success of Queen Was because even though they were one band with for equal parts that even their albums were was because even though they were one band with four equal parts that even their albums consisted of four different song riders doing their own things. Each band member did something separate from Queen, but they didn’t really have to and none of their stuff independently of the band was as good as what they did together. They were magical together! Night at the opera, for example, had Bohemian Rhapsody written by Freddie Mercury but performed by all. You’re my best friend, which was written by John Deacon and performed by all. I’m in love with my car- Roger Taylor and performed by all & Brian May had his own work as well in the albums.. so in essence even though the albums were Queen, Open till they did the last two or three albums, each member wrote separate songs and got credits and royalties from that. It did lead to a lot of fighting in the band but even Freddie Mercury said that all four members were strong individuals and only the Strong could survive in that band and that’s why John Deacon made it & he was only 20 when he joined the group. John was the baby of the group.. but good!! Love them all!!

@@montereyharris1277 there are days I still have a hard time listening to Freddie because he was gone way to soon and I miss him like I knew him. John is a remarkably strong, fiercely loyal, loving and caring man which is why I am Deaky's girl. I know he took Freddy's death very hard and I believe he still misses him today. Queen was the four of them and I miss it badly. Half of Queen with Adam Lambert just isn't right.

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 5 лет назад +6

@@montereyharris1277 - John was only 19 when he joined the band and preceded by two or three other bassists. They said he was the best plus he was quiet and wouldn't clash with the other three self professed "egomaniacs" or take attention away from them. Once he was comfortable in the band though, Brian said he could tear them to pieces with his sharp tongue and that he was very smart and level headed. Having a degree in Electrical Engineering, he built the "Deacy" amp (now patented and sold by Brian) that gave Brian (and hence Queen) it's iconic guitar sound so he was a MAJOR factor in their success. He also helped as their sound tech early on when they couldn't afford crew.
Freddie was oldest and took John under his wing as a sort of big brother because John was so shy. John lost his own father when he was only a child and ironically at the same age that Freddy died so that might be one reason why John took his death so hard, as did they all. Freddie also insisted on John's songs getting recorded because Brian and Roger often thought they were more pop/soul than rock and didn't always like them, but several of their biggest hits were John's songs and Freddie said he loved them because they were singer's songs. When Freddie died John would likely lose status in the band without his mentor. He thought Queen was going to be "A weekend job making a few extra quid" and never intended to be a rock star and avoided the spotlight.
I saw them live and was riveted watching John. He was in his own little world, dancing around, the anchor/heartbeat of the band musically, steady as a metronome in lock step with Roger as a great rhythm section and very melodic in his bass playing. Stuff like Millionaire Waltz is a master class!
I think some of Queen's best songs were by John...I want to Break Free, One Year of Love (beautiful), Need your Loving tonight (a fave), Misfire, In only 7 days, Another one Bites the dust (number one in rock, soul, black and disco charts across all genres), My life has been saved, Back Chat, You're my best Friend (played piano), If you can't beat them, You and I, Spread your Wings, Who Needs You (he played guitar on that - there's a great version on You Tube....Queen - Who Needs You acoustic take) and co wrote with Freddie, Cool Cat (he played all the instruments, no Brian or Roger), Friend will be Friends, Don't try so hard, Rain must fall, etc. He was easily a full quarter of the band and a vital factor in their success. In many ways, I agree with him when he said no Freddie, no Queen. He was loyal. He gave fans 25 years of his life and made the right decision for him and his family.
Of course Brian and Roger also wrote many gems. The fact that all four were unique personalities and had different tastes often led to fights but that's what made them so bloody good!

    • @montereyharris1277
      @montereyharris1277 5 лет назад +3

Deaky's girl I agree with you 100% and I think we are on the same level as far as Queen fans & lovers of the band. John Deacon was always the Darkhorse of the band because he was younger and quiet but so darn good on the base. Yet he would come up with these incredible songs out of nowhere. “ you’re my best friend”” another one bites the dust”” I want to break free”.. they all are amazing and I always said they were the fabulous 4. It’s nice that Roger and Brian still tour and play but it’s only half of the band. I never considered Paul Rogers or Adam Lambert members of the band but just people that play with them so the two remaining members can have some fun. Freddie’s illness had to break their hearts. They might have thought but Freddie said that they were all strong individuals and it kept them together but it enabled them to put out the best songs because they would argue back-and-forth about what was better and what was terrible. John Deacon retiring in 1997 is understandable and I don’t blame him. To him and to many others, Queen still lives and they are legends, But without the original four, there wasn’t any use in continuing on with new music and touring. The band took what music they had they had recorded earlier with Freddy and they put out that album in 1995. I think. Just like you, I still miss Freddie Mercury and seeing the movie was wonderful and funny but it brought tears to my eyes when I got home. I was watching RUclips videos and I just miss Freddie Mercury and John Deacon❤️ all four of them together were incredible but I miss seeing them all together. John was so cute when he was seen out in public after the movie was released. He’s the business brains of the bunch according to Brian, & since John wanted to retire from music and be with his wife and six kids 😂😂❤️❤️ as we know what he was doing when the band came home from touring😂😂 but John handles the finances because he’s good at that stuff. John was out in public and so many people recognized him. John Deacon is so adorable to this day & he’s older, too. About three people said “ there is John Deacon from Queen!” & John put his hands over his face in disbelief. It was like he couldn’t believe these people knew who he was or remembered him since it had been so long from his retirement. He had this big sweet smile and then he started signing autographs for everyone. ❤️❤️ I thought it was precious.
I was pregnant with my second child and had just gotten pregnant around Halloween in 1991. I started getting sick nauseous around the 20th of November. I directly remember when Freddie mercury released that he had AIDS & despite the rumors and having a feeling that he was sick with something. I didn’t want to admit it to myself. Even though the rumors kept talking about him being sick with HIV, etc... I know how the press is and I knew that he had told A friend in 1996 when he was questioned if he had been tested for HIV, etc.. that Freddie told his friend that he was fine but he did have a blood disorder with his white blood cell counts. I didn’t think anything that unusual about it because I have a systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. My white blood cells are low from time to time and I was hoping that Freddy didn’t have leukemia. When he announced he had AIDS, I was devastated just as you. The next day one I saw and heard about his death on TV, I had to run to the bathroom and throw up. It’s amazing how much we can love a person that we have never met. Freddie Mercury could reach people through his actions and his performances on stage and the words to his songs. He said everything was open to interpretation with his music. But he was a very deep man. He even said he was a man of extremes and he was either very hard or he was a big baby. You could see his emotions and feelings in those big beautiful brown eyes. The first time I saw the Bohemian Rhapsody video, I thought he was the most beautiful good-looking man I had ever seen in my life & seven or eight years old. Haha! He just had the most beautiful hair and eyes. Love him and miss him to this day, just like you do. I so miss the four of them!! ❤️

Susie Q yes I knew he was the youngest one to join and only 19 when he was actually chosen as the final bass player for Queen. I think because he was quiet at first and he played the bass so well, his music style went with the chemistry of the band. Once he got comfortable being a bandmember and part of the crew he did open his mouth and say more. From what I have been told, John was more of the voice of reason and couldn’t get the other ones to stop arguing so much. Brian said that their 1986 tour was so stressful for all of them and he was having marital problems and Roger was having girlfriend/home problems. John was stressed out from fatigue like everyone else and missing his family. Brian said that John could get really angry and lash out from time to time but the last concert, John’s roadie kept handing him alcoholic beverages during the concert. After the concert and John was wasted drunk, exhausted and stressed out; & John took his base and slammed it into one of the big speakers. I couldn’t imagine him being that mad but Brian and Roger said that he could get really stressed out and angry sometimes. It’s got to be hard touring and being away from your family. All four of those members had incredible chemistry and despite their arguments and disagreements, they were close friends and family. The fact that all four bandmembers kept Fred’s AIDS Diagnosis when he told them when they got together in late 1988 or early 1899 to do the miracle album, and they kept that secret for almost 3 years. That’s loyalty and Brian and Roger said that Despite the fact they were all devastated by Freddie Mercury’s death that John Deacon took it really really hard. I was a huge fan of Dan deacon and loved the Deacy Amp.. what a brilliant men they were!!

Excellent reaction! Wembley held around 80,000 seats. Queen played to much larger crowds in other countries. Freddie was the greatest frontman of all time, not just because he had a 4 octave range, but because he involved the crowd. When Freddie does what you called a warm up, it's actually referred to as a "Call and Response". It was so those at the back of the crowd felt as involved in the concert as well as those in the front. One of Queen's greatest live concerts is the 1981 Montreal concert filmed in 35mm. I highly recommend from that show, Save Me, and Dragon Attack. From this Wembley Show I highly recommend Love Of My Life!!! Each of these songs, live, is hands down the best you will ever hear live. What you witnessed with the "audience callback" technique was a master at work... If you could imagine the chaos and disorder a crowd that size achieves during an event like this. Freddy took the minute to get their attention, UNITE them as one, and bring them back down to the moment of the song that he was about to perform. One man hypnotizing 80,000.
The stadium was a "space-ship" and Freddie was it's captain... In FULL control at all times. He was far more than just a singer, and when you realize his unsurpassed ability of manipulating a crowd it's a little easier to understand how the band achieved such greatness. Look at Elvis and you will see the same control with the same results. THAT'S the similarity you noticed without even realizing it. ;-)

Remember when Freddie Mercury wore his iconic yellow jacket on stage at Wembley Stadium? His famous yellow jacket was one of three military-style cropped coats created by his friend and costume designer, Diana Moseley. The design was reportedly inspired by Spanish opera costumes and featured gold buckles, eyelets and trim. Freddie paired it with white trousers that had a red stripe down either leg, embellished with gold. The color scheme was said to be a nod to the Spanish flag, though yellow was also known as one of the singer's favorite colors.
Also if you notice, his favorite brand of tennis shoes/sneakers were Adidas! LOL

In the 70's and 80's the Cap Center, Baltimore Convention Center and many more routinely had a sold-out house for these rock concerts. We waited in line all night (literally) at the local Ticketmaster outlet and several times the concert sold out before I left the building. But then sometimes they would announce an additional concert the next night. It was SO different then, no internet or cell phones, you had to BE THERE to get the tickets. They sold out 2 nights at Wembley & had enough requests to have done many more. The DVD contains both shows, one was in the rain. They invented “Arena Rock” becz of the large venues that booked their tours. Unfortunately, they only did 2 more shows after Wembley, the last at Knebworth in England. Freddie was tiring, and didn’t think that he could continue. The following year, 1987, he was diagnosed with Aids. But they continued to make music until several months before Freddie passed in November 1991. He left behind so many vocal tracks, & told the band to use them. They released “Made in Heaven” in 1995, & got back together in 1997 to record a video tribute to Freddie called “No One But You ( Only the Good Die Young). John Deacon (bass) retired after that. He’d married his high school sweetheart and had 6 kids.

This song was recorded with David Bowie. The ice ice song used this beat, Queens is the original. Freddie does a song in reference to Elvis. You really need to react to the whole 25 minute Live Aid 1985, and listen to the crowd without talking or stopping it to get the full attention of what happened. The world stopped during that 25 minutes and rock music changed forever.

Make sure you have the Saturday night performance...you’ll know it’s the right one if it starts with speeded up footage of the stage-and-lights being assembled and the audience pouring into the stadium.
As soon as Freddie bursts onto the stage, the audience loses their minds!

    Love your reactions to Queen.
I'm sure I'm not the only Queen fanatic who would love to see you do a reaction to Queen at Live Aid 1985.
The 2 main locations for the concert were at the Wembley Stadium in London with 72,000 people in attendance and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia with 80,000 fans.
There were 13 satellites televising the concert (the Olympics normally use only 3 to televise) around the world and approximately 1.3 billion people watched the concert that had 75+ performers.
Queen and Freddie stole the show.
Freddie was told by the doctor, not to perform because of a bad throat infection.
But Freddie didn't listen to that medical advice and again, he had the audience in the palms of his hands.
He was amazing that day, even with a throat infection.
Queen at Live Aid 1985 has been voted as the best Rock n Roll performance of all time and it is still considered to be.
Queen''s performance was approximately 25 minutes long plus an encore performance by Freddie and Brian May 3 hours later was about 3 minutes.
When you hear whistling and boos during the encore, it's because there were technical problems with the mics and the audience couldn't hear Freddie singing and Brian's guitar playing.
Queen at Live Aid is well worth the time that you'll have to spend on your reaction.
Freddie was amazing that day, he was such a charismatic performer.
Welcome to the Queen Musical Journey.

Elvis Presley is one of Freddy Mercury's biggest inspirations, so yeah he took cues from the King. One was including the audience in the show, like at the beginning of this song, it was to amp them up. To this day no other, to me, has owned and loved a crowd like he did.

"there were no cell phones out at all, everyone is so focussed and engaged".
There were barely any cell phones in existance then, and they were the size of bricks and only made calls. They didn't even send texts. It's very unlikely anyone in the crowd had one there.
That kind of focus and engagement is what happens when you don't watch everything second hand through a teeny little screen and just experience it without distracting yourself.
Queen were amazing, but I think cell phones at gigs ruin the experience no matter how good the band. Nobody wants to see your footage recorded from the 80th row. YOU don't want to see your footage recorded from the 80th row. Why make it? Professionally recorded live versions of everything can be found on the internet if you want them. Just watch the show.
