Shout out to any fellow information professionals/librarians watching this and rejoicing at Percia’s wonderful articulation of their information-seeking behaviors. This is smooth brain content for hyper organized nerds! 🎉
First time hearing someone mention the very intense categorising of places, things, and screenshots!! Found my people haha
I just got back from Tokyo and can confirm there were many City Boys and City Girls. I went with a more casual version with: black hat, blue/white striped shirt, black linen shorts, and some birks/balck tassel loafers. It seemed VERY rare for anyone to be wearing shorts, which I thought was was strange given how warm some of the days were - some women wore shortish skirts.
It's wild how well the folks in and around the Tokyo area dress, these people take a lot of pride in their appearance. If they weren't in their suit/tie/work attire, everyone seemed to be well-dressed even on the warmer days. A lot of the classic sailors striped long sleeve shits, an alarming amount of men's jumpsuits/overalls.
Great city and people!
I saw a man with a sort of patchwork blue/denim/chambray? shirt/jacket and I wished I could have asked him where to cop
this has become my favorite fashion yt channel very fast!!! love it
Pinterest is very invasive, I get not wanting to use it. They basically forced us to accept them as the go to image, idea making center of the internet.
omg please make 1,000 videos, i love these
I’ve been using a tool named mymind to organize all my interest. It’s simple to use and has just enough features to organize everything without feeling overwhelmed. If you love mood boards, this is your tool.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go check it out!
the reason for the large amount of white models could be because of the amekaji scene but frankly it /is/ postcolonial beautystandards. even where I'm from in Southeast Asia, LOCAL like very LOCAL, small scale fashion brands will still hire white models. whiteness, even in countries with no white people in them, is still considered the default when it comes to fashion and beauty, a marker of prestige and quality. there's been backlash to it, i think because the beauty scene has started embracing more traditional, indigenous inspiration. this is happening all over Asia, you've probably scene those tiktoks of people wearing hanfu casually in China. idk about Japan
That Google Maps feature is such a life saver, I use it for restaurants, secondhand stores and specialty stuff (cosplay gears, vinyl stores, things like that). I tried Pinterest but I get too overwhelmed with the related search term lmao. I love your spreadsheet btw! I definitely understand how helpful it can be to jot down good and bad experiences
intention is totally the word for all of this and i loooove it. especially the idea of the google maps showing my interests physically to me.
How did RUclips know I love your tiktioks and send this my way
I guess my problem is that I like so many things. And at the same time, if I spend too long looking for a certain item I may find that I don't want it anymore by the time I actually find it. I guess that's actually NOT a problem. I just saved myself some money, lol.
Same, but I think the key is differentiating what you like on yourself vs other people. I really like the 50s look or style elements but I would never wear it or pull it off in a way that feels authentic to me.
This channel is absolutley what I am in need of right now, perfect channel at the perfect time
I also love Fudge and Cluel. I was working in Japan last year and regularly read (i.e. looked at) both magazines, but one thing--not sure why--but EVERYTHING the models wear is really, really expensive. So it's good for inspo, but that's it. I spent a good amount of time shopping in Second Street (there were a couple other thrift shops I also frequented) and one strategy of mine was to research every item I bought. I only bought Japanese brands. Even the most seemingly run-of-the-mill clothing companies style their items in a way that's unique.
I’m the exact same way with organizing my thoughts, lists, and Google maps. Even down to the crazy amount of screenshots
My brain is very happy watching this video - thank you! 😌 I’ve just recently gotten onto Indyx and I’m obsessed. Really great tool for cataloguing and knowing what’s in your wardrobe - I enjoy seeing all your items and being able to select a specific colour - great way to find gaps within your wardrobe too 🙌🏼
I feel validated. Yes I have a google maps list for random things and I also have a spreadsheet on the stores I'm researching / bought / and my progression of my style/ colour palette. / clothing gaps Etc.
Pinterest for sure, I also sketch a lot so what I do is sketch outfits and find things similar to the sketch, I also have a chart with basics for tops, bottoms, shoes, etc. What I do is fill in the charts with specific pieces I want from each category.
I think Sillage is pronounced “see-yahj”. It’s a french word for the way that perfume radiates off your body!
ohhh that makes sense
Your content is reminding me of all the things I should be doing instead of scrolling lol. Thank you!!!
This video was soo good!! Personally I've been doing the same thing on google maps (saving places to go to) and following people and saving posts on instagram but making a spreadsheet is something I wish I'd thought of sooner, I love making spreadsheets so I'm definitely going to start doing that now. Also if anyone uses macbooks, the "Stickies" app? is a really good tool, its basically a sticky note and you can put them on any of your desktops, there's different colours and font sizes so it's easy to keep them organized, oh and there's also a minimizer option to make your desktop not as cluttered.
glad I'm not the only one that likes to use productivity software for wishlists/shopping haha. I use notion for all of my spreadsheets and whatnot
My kid made their own outfit with city boy inspiration for a day trip. They really approve the style, mostly for the loose and put together look of it.
Wow I love this video!
Thank you for being the one fashion content creator I can relate to! Love all your videos (here and on insta)!
You would kill a type 2 raw denim jacket
I'm convinced that our brains are wired the same way at this point lol
I also make lists for absolutely anything (and notably a youtube playlist where I save my favorite fashion advice videos, and I'm happy to tell you that this one is now part of it 🥳)
On maps I frequently use the saving option, especially for thrift shops and vintage shops (in Paris where I live (btw if you ever come to Paris I'd be glad to share it!) to share with my friends and encourage them to shop more sustainably! I personally use the "notes" option on it, adding what you can find there, prices etc!
Another thing that I do to try to shop more intentionally is that I have my wishlist saved on a Pinterest board! And I, too, spend months sometimes before choosing whether to buy sth or not!
Anyways, thanks again for such an informative video!
So opening everything you get obsessed with in a new tab on your web browser and keeping these 50ish tabs open for years until you finally decide to impulse buy one of them isn't the pinnacle of organization? Asking for a friend...
I feel validated. Yes I have a google maps list for random things and I also have a spreadsheet on the stores I'm researching / bought / and my progression of my style/ colour palette. Etc.
Same!
Super fun to see how someone else goes through this processs! I have my own whole ecosystem but am eager to try and implement a thing or two from you :)
I am personally not into the City Boy aesthetic, but when you mentioned Japanese magazines it took me WAY back lol I used to be heavily into gyaru fashion back in the day. And the magazine's were difficult and very expensive to buy (and I was a broke teen) so I used to "read" heaps of scans online. To this day I still enjoy flipping through the physical copies that I do own. I feel like Japanese fashion magazines just hit so differently to any print media I have available to me where I live. It somehow energizes me to love fashion more even when it's not even my style lol
I feel so seen omg immediate subscribe. Everything you said is something I do. Seeing a cute piece in public and furiously trying to find it online. I have a Google spreadsheet of my purchases organized by item type, when I bought it, where I bought it, what colors are present in the piece, etc... a highly specific wishlist with images, watching items on eBay for months to really consider whether I want them... like. Gosh. Loved watching this.
Love your channel!
This was so useful, right up my alley! Really tickled that organisational part of my brain.I hope you keep making more videos, this deserves more views.
Thank you for posting! This was such an interesting video. I follow you on Instagram and I am so glad to see you on RUclips. ❤
I think our brains are linked! Lol. Also, I need your spreadsheet!
that spreadsheet is so beautiful and aspirational
Love your videos
Love your content, this is my speed!
I also use notion to organize my lists and links. It allows me to really develop and customize a dashboard dedicated to my needs. Also really aesthetically pleasing. That and Pinterest have been my go to.
oh notion rings a bell but I haven't tried it
Love your content ❤❤❤
I did the same thing with that hat except I was watching drew joiner
it elicits strong emotions!
I do resonate with you
love a maps list and i also use it the exact same way like if im in an area and i don’t know where to sit for a coffee i’ll just open my “tiktok recs” folder and see what’s close lol.
i also have a shopping list in my notes app! i have deactivated notifs for most secondhand websites because it’s too tempting, but i also use karma to track the prices of first hand websites and that’s landed me some great deals :^)
really cool video! i am so nosy abt how people think abt and organise their fashion so this is like deeply satisfying to me haha
Favourite
I love how detailed you are with your process. Thank you for being transparent and sharing your methodology with us-this is extremely helpful.
Do you have a list of the Japanese brands that ship to the us. If so please share.
waitttttt!!! I need to know more about that baseball cap... what is that silhouette called?!
just a guy standing here looking for a tomato girl
it makes me lol everytime I had to include
7:00 Other than the fact that Japanese ppl think foreigners are "cooler", Japanese ppl in general r shorter, so its hard to find 6'2 models for these types of magazines..
Would you be willing to share the spreadsheet?
"Why are the models in the magazines you mentioned mostly Caucasian?" In Japanese, Western garments/clothes are called yofuku (洋服), meaning Western clothes. Whereas Japanese clothes are called wafuku (和服). From a Japanese perspective, Western garments look better on a Western person than on a Japanese person. In the same way, Japanese garments look better or more natural on a Japanese person. I've heard from a Westerner who practices karate, that he wished he was Japanese as he felt that the gi looked better on a Japanese. After WWII, the Japanese were introduced to many clothes from the West and began to wear more and more yofuku. Back in those days, it was thought that yofuku looked better on Westerners. While this may be an old perception I think there still remains that perception even today. If I were to also add something, the Japanese people in the 50's were much shorter in height than now. After the war nutrition and diet in general have improved substantially which led to the height of the Japanese people to increase. So over the years, the Japanese have begun to look better in Western garments but as explained earlier, the Japanese feel that Western garments look better on Westerners. Hence the reason many magazines still use Western models. At least that's my understanding.
if you're really interested in japanese fashion i recommend learning at least hiragana and katakana, you'll be able to read like 80% of these sorts of magazines since they use a lot of english loanwords usually.
I do the same with Google maps
Why is your video interlaced? It doesn't look good at higher resolutions.
I don’t know 😅 I’m still sort of new to this. That’s an export setting?
Oh I see there’s like a weird motion blur, I think I chose the wrong frame export setting
@@percish it's a remnant from old tv broadcasting. two frames are scanned in at the same time in alternating lines (noticeable where there's movement) to give the illusion of smoother video. it is totally superfluous on digital video over youtube except in particular deliberate circumstances. search how to disable interlacing in your video editor to turn it off for future uploads.
@@sjuvanet thank you so much!
I think the ebbets field cap is actually the brooklyn eagles - they were a negro league team in the 30s that coincidentally had a similar logo to the yankees. Drew Joiner has the same one!
Yes sorry you’re right I meant I was just inspired by wanting a NY yankees hat
You need to get a Fvcking Clue Where All The Styles Are From
Pronunciation of sillage is interesting
Funny video, people are weird!
Time for you to learn Japanese
