organizing my pinterest boards in categories really helped bc some outfit inspos are more masc or more feminine, more colourful etc. and just being mindful of what i pin bc i wound end up pinning a lot of things i thought were cute but irl wouldn’t wear. a lot of trial and error
Before you buy a new piece, try to imagine wearing it with 5 other items you already own. If you struggle to do this, you probably won't wear that new piece 🌠
Your #3 tip reminded me of something I've started doing lately. If I'm desperate to buy something I try to imagine: would I still buy it if it was for sale in a charity/thrift shop? If no then it's clear that I was getting carried away because of the label. And similarly when I'm out thrifting, sometimes I get excited because of a bargain so I ask myself: would I still buy this if it was from (for example) Free People? If no then that tells me I was getting carried away by the bargain and not the actual item of clothing.
Definitely the tip to think of 5+ outfits with items you already have in your closet before you buy something has helped me so much! That’s why people think that I never wear the same outfit twice😂 It’s not technically true but I do shop to fit what’s already in my closet. Every item fits within each other and can be mixed and matched in many different ways. Practicing that technique with every purchase has given me so much variety.
I am having the same exact problem you had! I Study from home and I work on a farm, on top of that I really dont go anywhere. Last year was my hs senior year and I was really exploring with clothing and trying to find what I liked. Now suddenly my lifestyle has changed so much that im living my life in sweatpants everyday. Recently i have been getting closer to my personal style by craeating new outfits and utilizing pintrest. I have been getting backlash ftom my family- usually my sister- saying that i look too emo now, whatever that means🤧 I used to always dress like my mom and sister but I never felt like myself in it. But it is hard to develop my style when I have people around me criticizing it.
i strongly relate! hope you’re able to keep exploring with clothes on your daily life, living/ working in smaller/ tight communities makes it harder to be expressive
Your point on the brands- validation buying resonated with me so hard. Because back when I was in junior high, I wore Brooks (very good running/ walking shoes) they had fun colors and helped my feet because I walk a bit odd. Perfect shoes, however Brooks logo is not totally similar to but close to the Nike swoosh. So I was really loving my shoes, but I got picked on a bit because everyone believed I was wearing fake Nikes. Personally I hate Nike shoes- never worked good for me. But it proves most people only care about brands and believe that that brand is king over others
This year I have set a goal for myself that 2024 will be my year even with fashion bc I always scroll on Pinterest and see outfits and items I really like but never get to find the items and where them sometimes it can be difficult to find the exact item in a store but just get the style I want and really like and really rock it and don’t care about ppl think of me so I’m also trying to do mood boards so Ik every time I’m going shopping or is shopping online Ik what to go for then just scrolling on Pinterest in the albums I made
In my case, the outfits that "I don't really like" are SO embarrassingly bad that I wouldn't even step outside my backyard wearing them--they're clothes for painting or cutting the grass.
I paint with oils and honestly at this point i've accepted that all of my very casual clothes will have paint on them :,) i've been working to keep linseed oil and galkyd off of my clothes and only on my apron though!!!
This is such a helpful and super visually adorable and clever video! ❤ I work from home too and try to always accessorize every outfit before I go anywhere even if it’s walking to the grocery store! It helps me stay in touch with my personal style on a daily basis…. I love the idea of photographing your clothes… great tip! Love the polo w the yellow statement beads! Awesome fit!
One category for me is items I've worn that I get compliments on. For example, there's a few things I have and every time I wear them my sister will compliment me...and I sometimes get the sense that she totally forgot about complimenting these things previously, lol. I guess I am only thinking of 3 things, so I'll hang on to them.
I making a Pinterest board where. I have photos saved and organized by like why I liked the pic Like vibes Top Skirt I’d wear with minor adjustments Accessories Etc 😊
Thank you very much! This video was very beautiful and helpful! I also liked the cover ❤ hope the video will become popular, because its really helpful
Getting acessories have really helped me spruce up my outfits espicially your so called staple accesories. I have a pair of very stylish glasses chains my friends made me in bronze and little roses and green leaves and I can use them for most what i own because I love floral stuff and greens but also spruces up neutral colors a little and just gives a lot of visual interest. Also a awesome conversation starter because people like asking about them and I can gush about my friends and their business. Same with a very basic black belt i got form my grandma when she cleaned out her closet. I dont like wearing a lot of things because they look so baggy on me and I prefer a flared out look espicially with dresses and tunics so that simple belt immediatly made it fun to wear them. And a very simple necklace with a black leather cord and pretty green jewel with painted swirls I got on a christmas market from one of the artisans there, it that also matches most that I own. I love that necklace I have had it for like 6 years now and it is very beloved.

Yes! Also having 1 board for outfits you like and 1 board for outfits you would actually wear

I think a good tip is also recognizing what you don’t like in clothes. Texture, fabric and overall fit can be helpful
Love it already even if it’s not yet out! ✨
