Here’s something good about Galaxy’s controls: they are so smooth the handheld mode imo. The controls feel similar to Odyssey's but being able the triple jump wall kick or side flip then spin just feels so good and makes you feel like a badass playing the game!

I finally realized what made Sunshine and 64 so great. They both always had a "central world" you could return to. It was like a home base, but also included dozens of secrets of its own. For Sunshine, it was all of Delfino Plaza. For Super Mario 64, it was all of Peaches Castle. When Galaxy came out, they got rid of this, pretty much. I wouldn't call that little sphere with nothing to do on it a "home base". And in Odyssey, the only "central" place is his little airship. A single room. Because of this, jumping aimlessly from one forgettable world to the next, especially since it was fast travel, made the game feel so "disconnected". Jumping through a painting or a portal to reach each different part was so much more gratifying for me.
Well if they didn’t do that, lives would be pretty much pointless. Look at lost levels it means pretty much no penalty for getting game over except for losing the checkpoint. Oh nooooooooo /s

If they weren’t held back my technical limitations imagine how amazing the game would’ve been. Imagine a new definitive version of Super Mario 64, with new stars, levels, and secrets, the ability to customize controls, better models, a circular thomps fortress like in the painting. The fact that they didn't capitalize off of this is just a shame. I didn't exactly expect them to do all that, it really was all wishful thinking, but the fact that it could've been done is what boggles my mind. I remember playing 64 and sunshine on their original consoles as a kid. Seeing them ported like this brings me back to my youth. I miss the 90s/early 2000s. Such a different time like the whole era had a certain feeling to it that hasn't been felt since. I'm glad I grew up in the 90s
