You're not supposed to use the tool to tighten it. Hand-tighten only and also, the o-ring needs food grade grease rubbed on it each time you remove the filter for easy removal and to maintain the o-ring. One other thing, I clean my filter housing every time I change the filter with peroxide. Yes, regular store-bought 3% hydrogen peroxide. Hope this helps someone.
zc guild I just snug mine. My hands don't work as good as they used to. I also change my o-rings if they seem stretched. Thanks
Thanks! It helps to remember how the bypass on these work, which you cleared up for me. I've been using one of these for about 10 years, and it works fine for sediments from the well. I am now putting in a Central Filtration System by Whirlpool, but keeping this between the pressure tank and the new Central Filter.
It really helps with clear housings to take a clean cloth or even paper towel and wipe down the inside of the housing before you drop in the new filter cartridge. It should take off the discoloration (tan/brown) so you have a clear view of the new cartridge to check on it. I recommend doing that with each filter change, it also extends the life of the housing.
Finally ... thank you . I really needed a very simple 101 type video. Could not find the make and never seen it before. I have since learned some more detail but needed this first..
Glad it was helpful!
Dan it's what I do. You just have a plastic on plastic seal no metal. Another thing shut off water main before filter and depressure the house from faucet or shower and see if that makes it easier. Make sure filter is in filter mode when depressuring it.
Not sure about that question. You would have to check with manufacturer. I know normal house domestic water pressure is usually 40-80 psi so if you use a pump then I would say yes.
Christopher it is the same install for copper pipe. You can use small pipe cutters or hack saw to take out the piece that you need to fit the filter in. The sharkbite type fittings on the filter will work with any same size pipe.
smaerd58 pm ok
I use a 5 micron filter cartridge. I have to change mine every 2 months. I can't believe how brown the cartridge is. We use municipal water that is not at all "Hard". I use thread sealant which makes the canister easy to unscrew and meets NSF standards.
Those are all excellent ideas Rick. I'll get a rubber mallet soon and give that a try first.
Dan Thompson 5
What Is a Micron Rating?
The average size of the openings between pieces of the filter media are represented in microns. For example, a 20-micron filter has larger openings than a 5-micron filter. Consequently, the 20-micron filter element will let larger particles pass through the filter than the 5-micron media would.
Other videos recommend that you lubricate the threads and O-ring with food-grade silicone, which makes removal a breeze.

kellerrobert80 can I install this under my sink?
@@nonenone4078 - Yes.
I would absolutely plumb in a bypass loop around that filter with a ball valve on either side of the filter and one in the bypass loop. If you have a leak or catastrophic failure of any of the fittings or the filter itself you can close the valves on both sides of the filter and open the bypass valve. The onboard bypass valve is not sufficient if you have a break on either the inflow or outflow fittings. Clear filter housings fail routinely, I have had it happen. The opaque ones are much more durable. They also make a leak detector/ auto shut off valve you can mount on the feed side pipe. Mount the sensor on the bottom of the canister or the floor underneath. If a leak is detected the AC/ battery powered valve closes. It’s called Floodstop and is for water heaters but will work in this application and is 3/4” sized.
I put in a by- pass line with another valve. Anything happens to this filter that line will work at same capacity
Thanks for making this. Those stupid labels on the lid over time with all the water will disintegrate. So, it's hard to know which way to twist the lid. There is a little divit/indicator on the lid that droops down a bit. So on the IN Side, if the lid is twisted toward that, it's in BYPASS mode. (AKA Full Clockwise Twist) If that divit is in the Middle, it's OFF. If the divit is to the RIght, or on the out-side, it's on FILTER mode. (Full CCW Twist) The newer ones have a handle on top and better marks on the housing itself rather than the sticker.
I now have a newer one since moving. That video review is on my channel. 👍🤞
Good video. I pay someone to change my filter, but I think I could it myself now that I see your video.
I subscribed 🙌
Works great in basement but what about slab foundation, is there filter system for outside?
This is stand alone filter. I am on city water so I am just filtering sediment and chemicals. 😊
Does this help with sulfur smell? We have a two pump system. Pump one is in the well and pumps the water up and into the aerator tank and pump 2 pumps it from the aerator tank into the house. Well our pump two burnt out and we are heard piped straight off the well and the pressure is amazing but the smell is god awful.
If you dont relieve the pressure on that thing when trying to remove the filter housing then minimal, it will spray all over you, best case it will never loosen, and worse case you will loosen the connections at the filter housing and have a leak.
You must release the contained pressure
LOL... I do crack it slowly over a bucket when I break the seal. I have learned over the years to not run it up that tight. Just snug it up & slowly open valve & check for leaks. I also have recently replaced inner ring seal. Thanks for the concern & watching my vids. Take care,Rick
I personally shut of my main valve, open a faucet in my laundry room, then open my filter. I've had the bypass from factory new unit not function properly, so now I never use it. Plus it cleans my main valve of any crusty and I know it will function when I need it. I've seen some folks try to shut off their main water valve that was never shut off since the house was built and it was so crusty, it didn't work when they needed it to work from failed pipes.
I'm from Pittsburgh too!
I just found a length of PVC pipe and even with the added leverage it wouldn't budge. Not sure what I'll try next. I'm afraid of destroying it with a mallet! I just may have a get a plumbers help.
Legend has it that Dan tries to open his filler even to this day
Did you choose this over the Culligan WH-HD200-C, which has a bypass valve?
I would suggest to change the filter before you notice a drop in pressure. That filter is really clogged, Might want to have a 10 micron pre-filter feeding into a 2-5 micron filter to help extend the life of the more expensive filter and change the cheaper filter more often
I need a replacement vessel for this model - WHCF-DWHV. I ordered a clear vessel that looks like it but the threads are wrong - other than that it looks like a clone. LOL! I thought that all these vessels were standard even between makes, but I found out the hard way that ain't the case.
Thanks! Great video, looking into installing one of these. Do they hinder your water pressure?
Are you a Steeler fan by chance, just wondering?
Dasledogg Water pressure not effected to bad. EAGLES 😉
How much water pressure does these hold up too
Thank you!
Angelica Mendes Hope it helps. Rick
Shaky camerawork, but good content nonetheless. How did the old version compared to the 2019 one? On other notes, we share the same filter type :O But on Healthy Kitchen 101 said they can last up to 4 months, so do you have any tips on how to keep them from clogging too fast?
Nice video and well informed. Only concern I would have is saying to hit the filter housing handle hard, I feel safer holding the housing filter with one hand and turning the handle with the other hand. Striking some hard that has plastic pipe is an accident waiting to happen, just my opinion. Thanks again
Thanks.....Sometimes that sucker locks up tight. Hopefully no body has that issue. 🤞
@@DiyRick66 Wipe the filter house lip and the fixture and put a little baby power on them just make sure they are dry when you do this. Works for me and not harmful to you or family.
@@scotsmanofnewengland7713 Great tip. I will try it. Might be getting another manufactured one for another house. 🤞
As a native Pittsburgher, I'd have thought that you were too.
Close. Still the Northeast. Delaware 😉
Thanks again Rick. I turned the white valve on top (had to use a wrench) but was able to turn to off position. I could not, however, get the filter holder to budge, even hitting it numerous times. It's stuck right. Guess I'll be calling a plumber now!
+Dan Thompson Do you have a rubber mallet to smack the handle of wrench or even the top of the filter to loosen up like a stuck jar lid. or slip something over the handle of the plastic wrench to extend the handle like a piece of pipe of something hallow to act as a cheater. You may need someone to hold back on the housing of the filter so it doesn't twist the connected pipe. Good Luck. Rick
leave the filter valve on FILTER. turn off the water at the main, then open a water faucet to relieve the pressure in the line and the base will come off
Thank you!!
🤞
Done like a true homeowner I want to put valves in Not that much money for convenience
Do the cartridges filter out lead? If so, for what concentration? Other youtube presenters mentioned that it only reduced lead by 20% (1 part in 5). Some filters go to 5 microns. That is what I need. The actual device less cartridge is what I need for "city water". We want this for drinking water, not for anything else.
Like you said it is basically a filter housing so depends on what filter cartridge you use in it.
If you have a tripod to hold the camera you'll have both hands free...lol. Good how-to video.
Joe Spina I do now. Check out my latest videos. Thsnks
The water pressure in our neighborhood isn't all that great. Any idea how much this reduces water pressure to the house?
See if this helps you more. The other video was a follow-up.
ruclips.net/video/GK6C3_7qrgI/видео.html
It's a neat job, however is the PVC rated for drinking water and yes I did not read all the comments..
Yes.... potable water coming into the home via the CPVC pipe you see in the video. Thanks
I would clean filter, did you really put your filter on ground before installing.
Zhao Yang if my clean basement floor bothered you. you definitely don't want to see the dirt the water company pushed through the lines to our home. I clean the inside of filter housing which you can see in the video at the top is clearly brown. This time I did not due to trying to film and hold camera. Thanks for watching.
Jason Decker Pipefitter here. You don't want to even see a waste treatment plant. 😌
what's your water source? City water or ground well? Will this work from shallow well? Not planning to drink the water, just wash dishes, clothes and shower.
Municipal water. I don't see why it wouldn't help in your situation. Good luck.
Is their a video of the same instalation but w/ copper pipes?
Same install just different type pipe. Good luck.
I seen these filters at the Home Depot, reasonably priced too. How often do the filters need replacement?
When I notice a decrease in water pressure I change out. 2-3 or more months depending on how much water used? I also have aquariums so after massive water changes can get clogged faster. Good luck. Rick
Filter box says 6 months. Just keep an eye on it. Looks dirty or like some say here they notice decreased water pressure.
This is close to my rv so,, easy day.
city water is killing me, im looking for a how water filter to filter out the chlorine which i can install under my sink, and then funnel my water into a bucket and use a shower head pump to quickly take 5 minute showers. Im getting really sick from the chlorine and chloramine and the hot water gases are making me sick as well. I'm in desperate need of some sort of filtered water.
They make larger filters but you would need two filters housing . One for sediment . The other for chlorine . You put it on your incoming line in series. It will substantially reduce the chlorine in your water . You may also need something to change the harness if your water first . Best get your water tested .
I’d rather have something I didn’t have to change so much my problem is hard water for a wile.
It’s not that hard lol. You change it every few months.
What's the name of the product
Can I ask you sir Did you put the filter beforre or after to the hot water tank? Thanks
Before Hot water Heater. Coming off main water feed into the house.
Change this every 2 months or so? That's a lot? Does bacteria accumulate in it?
Could this be located in an insulated ground box, before it even gets to the house?
How does this do with really hard water? Ever consider installing 2 or 3 in series?
this is a really tiny and not very effective setup. at this micron level and without more advanced series filters and piping systems this would only remove larger particles and not very much of the chemicals, metals, dissolved solids, and other junk like viruses and bacteria.
to keep a high flow rate, good pressure, and way better real filtering people have flushable sediment filters-->large to small micron filters (150 down to 1 in steps or granulated activated carbon block filters)-->reverse osmosis in series or parallel-->deionizing filter for what the RO missed (expensive as it runs out quickly if ro is new or old. automated valve systems are made to make these last longer)-->storage tank with bladder.
issues with the above setup are that if you don't have automated valves or flushable filters, it can waste the deionizer resin or clog up prematurely as large particulates hit your small micron filters. small pumps are also used to get a higher pressure through the filter system so the RO membrane doesn't lower the head to the faucets too much and there are TDS (total dissolved solids) inline measuring meters that monitor how well everything is taken out of the tap or well water and if any filters need changed.
its expensive at first, but you can get the same filters or better for much cheaper prices if you search around on bulk suppliers or go on ebay and the super pure water is lacking the hundreds of unregulated chemicals that get into water treatment reservoirs, wells, and piping that only pass through maybe a standard set of industrial carbon filters and get treated with chlorine/chloramines (liquid chlorine and ammonia gas. bad for living things!) and flouride.
"You either have a water filter, or you are the water filter."
Desalination plants use RO membranes on a large scale to filter out the salt, but they still have to treat the water and there are lots of compounds that still get through the specialized membranes at 50+ BAR pressure (the membranes are made for this desalination purpose). For water treatment its about bacterial control and regulation. Not perfection. And somehow they care about our teeth to allow 4mg/L (4 ppm) fluoride into the water. It can vary by who you get tap from or what sh*t gets drained into your well.
Its generally just a great idea to have a setup that takes care of itself and you. You can price a 6 stage 150 gallon per day RO/DI setup for less than $400 and it can be set up with graded filters that need changing only every 6mo - 5yr at the cost of whichever carbon, cloth, dow membrane, or charged bead material needs changed at the time. Generally its still cheaper (2ish cents per gallon estimate) than bottled water and way better for you. You just gotta know whats in the game.
P.S. Its much simpler and cheaper to get just a kit that goes under one of your sinks than doing this for every drop of water that comes into your house. If I was smaerd58 I would definitely switch that filter and canister for a flushable particulate filter that doesn't really need to be changed much and or add one. It would decrease what each filter gets clogged by and extend their usable lifetime and allow greater flow and pressure to the fixtures in the house as well as provide a better tiered cleaning solution.
cleanairpurewater.com/home-2/sweetwater-notes/the-dangers-of-reverse-osmosis-wate/
This is a cheap, single stage filter. What he left out is that in the instructions, they have you use a little bleach to help clean it before you install a new filter back in.
If you're trying to kill bacteria or filter it, this is not going to help. Generally you're going to use a 2,3 stage filter and maybe a UV light at the end to kill the bacteria. Generally for like Well Water.
My cap is dripping. Is there an o ring in the cap? I’m not sure if I need to replace the entire unit or if there’s a way to get the cap off?
To be honest I am not sure about that. They are however not extremely expensive to replace. I have recently moved & installed another similar model. They are all about the same if they take the same filter size. 🤞
wow how the main doesn't bust from weight, good luck
Dave Mutogi I have my main supported on both sides of my filter by nailing into my floor joists above with pipe hangers. Thanks for the question. 😉
How long does it take for water to start inside the house i put one and no water is coming in
There is a flow direction on these & make sure valve is open and filter starts to fill up before going out to house.
Not installed with best practice, should be supported via bracket not hanging on pipes, shutoffs before and after and prefer bypass also. Real plumbers hate those type of fitting.
Mike Clarke There are individual pipe hangers on my CPVC supply line. As for the quick connect fitting they have been fine for years if not I will switch out for adapters. Good luck with your install.
AGREED! Needs a strong bracket to mount it. The canisters are NOT easy to remove.
There's gonna be a time when you smack that tool to loosen the canister and those pipes are going to snap. Geez!
Chooch I have installed stronger hangers since I made this video. I also put new seal in cap & don't run it up so darn tight now. LOL
LOL , I said that same thing to myself .. I was like WOAH , what the heck did he slam it so hard for .. Looks like CPVC and that crap is brittle .
If it's CPVC, yep it sure will. Snap like a piece of dry spaghetti. PEX or Copper would have been a better idea.
Love your accent... Is it a Pennsylvania accent?
Delaware
4 water filters whole house off+grid
Do you have a Maryland accent? Thanks--good video!
Lou Eckert LOL Delaware watching EAGLES NOW.
Do those water filter help with water odor of manganese sulfur from well water??.
I don't see why they wouldn't help. They have carbon in them and that will remove smells etc. Carbon is used in aquarium filters to remove chemicals contaminants and smells. Hope that helps. Good Luck.
A cheap filter like this is not what you should be thinking of using for well water. Get your water tested to see what your real needs are. You may need 1, 2, or 3 filters inline to filter outr a number of issues. Maybe even a UV light.
Well Water and City Water needs are not the same.
Depends
I lost the key, do they sell it seperately to remove filter, i use whirlpole filter
Maybe check out eBay. 🤞
Is this enough for well water?
No! Should get your water tested and see what kind of filter system you actually need. You may need a number of filters, maybe UV, etc.
can you use it say in a bathroom hot water tap situation ?
dtec30 Maybe depending on how hot the water is going through it? Rubber seals must get pliable and stretch & need to be changed more often. I think the plastic should hold out. You might want to ask the manufacturer. Good luck. Rick
thanks
How much did it cost please ? I see different ones from $20 to $500. Thx
I believe around $50 it has been awhile but no more than that. They make more money on the replacement filters 😉
Woud you install this before a water softener or after ?
If you are on city water the filter goes
Before anything else. If you are on well water the filter goes after the softener.
@@DiyRick66 Many thanks...
You want the filter before anything. Can you imagine that crap in your softener??
So this can be used alone? or do I have to use it with a water softener? My Dad has a Culligan system that I would love to just blow all to hell and simplify his life and go on with mine, back to my happy place. This seems like the answer....
This is a filter to filter out Sediments. This is NOT a water softener. More info on Water Softeners.

Will this work with a tankless water heater?
siamnaco You put this on where your water comes in at. That way it gets filtered before your Hot Water Heater. Hope that helps.
Thank you!
do these cause the water pressure to drop?
I personally have not experienced any major pressure drop. Ask around. Thanks
Dude sounds like the Pittsburg dad
Does it drastically reduce the water pressure for example in your shower?
I have never noticed a drop in pressure. Still in use to this day. I get my filters in bulk online. Thanks
smaerd58 thanks I just bought it on eBay for 49.99 and the carbon filters I see them at Lowe’s gonna install soon.
artificial reefs, the fish and coral, live in a far cleaner and healthier environment than water we get through well or tap.
many wells (deep wells ) in my area are very pure water when tested with great taste, the surface water get from municipal supply is so full of contaminants, etc that the treatments are sometimes not all that great, so much chlorine no need to add additional when filling the pool So really need whole house filter with carbon element for municipal supply. Some shallow wells if tend to pull up too much sediment on high usage demands may need a sediment filter but usually that is all.
False! Have you seen how polluted the oceans are becoming? Human's suck.
Do they still sell this product? I like the value feature.
Look at my newest video for the one I use now. Thanks 👍

5 Micron Filter - the lower the micron rating the more particles or contaminants removed by a whole house filter
Each cartridge has a 3 month filter life
Universal Fit - guaranteed to fit all major brands of standard size whole home water filtration systems including Whirlpool, Omni, Culligan, Watts, Filtrete, 3M, GE, and DuPont
NSF certified - 3rd party tested for contaminant removal, efficiency, and structural integrity.
No!! You need a filter that will filter out IRON which a Sediment filter will not. Need to TEST your water and see what you really need to filter your water. You may need 1, 2, 3 differnt filters, maybe UV light. Well Water is going to have different requirements from city water.
how did it work out for you?

run them tell they clogged up like honesly it only what they recomend u use it for 3 months byt untell it clogged up i would not change it
Joe Berenguer Depending on how many are in your your family & amount of use. But I always change when flow is decreased. Thanks. Rick
how the fek u supposed to open them.
its crazy tight
I change filters every once in while as per my job ...and have noticed that sometimes you have shut the main down and drain the line from a faucet near by to release the pressure just shutting off the filter may not release the pressure on the housing
How much did it cost you Bob?
d.j. Robinson I believe this is a new model. Like $35 Better than nothing. Good luck. Rick

That's not counter clockwise. He's turning it clockwise.
If you're talking about when he removes the filter then you're wrong. It was counter clockwise.
It happens lol ..
When you says counter clockwise, it is actually clock wise, see your action video. just correct your audio and you are right.
Krushna Das at what point of video are you talking about!
I noticed that too. When he said counter clock wise I was expecting him to pull the wrench but he pushed it. So he is going clock wise. Although I guess it depends on how you look at it. If you look at it from the bottom he is right but if you look at it from the top he is wrong. In the video we are seeing it from the top and he must be seeing it from the bottom when making the video.
Krushna Das give me a time location of where you are talking about I will review it.
you have to look at the filter from underneath not from the top down which makes it counter clockwise
