Yeah once you pulled out that daisy chain cable you were going to have a bad time you can only do a Molex to one (or two) SATA plug(s) safely. Now if you were going to need a multi drive setup you can get a Icy Dock 5.25 to four 2.5" SATA SSD Dock to work on that. The dock only requires two SATA power plugs to power all four SSDs.

Molex is good to 75 watts, sata to 52, so 2 sata to 1 molex is definitely sketchy.

It might be possible to use a PicoPSU for a NAS if you go for 2.5 inch drives over 3.5 - much more efficient per TB and much lower peak power draw per drive (granted they are more expensive per TB and lower capacity per drive)

QLC drives have become so cheap that it's not even worth getting a hard drive anymore, unless you have several terabytes of data.

Well, I can't get any kind of pc or mini pc with any psu to use less power than a low power laptop.
As for nas, four of five ssd on a pico is fine, most likely, and get an olmaster 4 bay to power four sata off one molex

I agree that ssd's will work better on a Pico psu. It would suprise you how efficient desktops can be, a low power laptop still loses a bunch of power because it needs a power adapter. My thin mitx system can do 5w out of the wall, which is less than any of my laptops with the power adapter.
