How I forge Damascus by hand.

  • This billet is made up of a total of 5 layers
    The outside layers are 15n20 (3/32”)
    The center layers are 33 layers of alternating 15n20 and 1084. (3/32”)
    The core materal is 1084 (5/32”)
    The billet is forged completely by hand.

    Nice billet, like it better to do my billets by hand. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see end piece

      @@richardbryant7972 thanks, I have a press but it’s in pieces at the moment. Hopefully it will be finished soon. But setting by hand is the best way to feel when it’s solid for sure. Can’t beat the old way.

    How wide was the billet before you forged it? I plan on trying this soon so I'm watching all the "by hand" videos. Super happy to see this pop

      @@AirBearForge I did 1 1/2” flat bars 5/32” thick I believe they were all around the 6” length mark. Usually when I do smaller billets that’s the size I go for. After you get them nice and clean on the grinder I soak my billets with WD40 before going in the fire.
