Thanks for watching!
Here I am 72 and the first time I have tried to grow anything and I am having fun was very happy to find you and this jar method the micro trays are very expensive. Thx for sharing wiah me good fortune /grin love and blessings
Welcome aboard, Poems!! Glad you are having fun and that we ab le to be apart of that!! You got this, follow the directions and start in small bites. You are on the right track!
Okay, you talked me into it!! I already started some Microgreens today. Now I'm soaking Adzuki, Garbanzo, Mung, & Green Pea seeds & beans for sprouts!! (I got the seeds from True-Leaf Market. This is called the "Protein Powerhouse Mix!!) I'm looking forward to the next couple weeks (Christmas) so I can taste everything!! Thanks for your videos & all that you teach us!!
I'm on my third jar of growing my sprouts. I'm glad I watched this video even though I did this years ago. What I learned was the ratio of seeds with the container used. The first and second jar I used too many seeds and the third not enough. Now that I know the ratio and I'm going to get started on a pint of radish sprouts. I use new knee high hose for the tops secured with a rubber band. I'm a Florida gal and can still grow some things outside, but these are so good, easy and fast. Thanks for the info, I will be waiting to watch you live on Monday.
Love the knee high hose tip, Shirley - brilliant! I think that would drain easier than cheesecloth. Looking forward to seeing you on the LS today. Thanks for watching!
I knew generally how sprouts worked but didn’t know you had to rinse them every day twice a day. And I also never thought of using radish seeds for sprouts. I’d be really curious how those taste. Thanks for the vid.
This whole process is new to me. While I’ve heard of it, I’ve never tried it. I’ve been wanting to give it a go. Thanks for all of the wonderful information.
I am going to try sprouts this wee; I only tried one other time and I let them dry out, oops, so didn't end up with any sprouts. I wasn't sure how much to put into the jar and now I know. It never occurred to me to add it to soup, sounds yummy! Thanks
This is the coolest thing ever! I had no idea you could grow spouts that easy! I’m going to make this a science project with my girls for homeschool! 🤗
a friend gave me some sprouting seed: Peas - lentils - sunflowers - teff (whatever that is) - and buckwheat. I tried once but they did mold. thanks for encouraging me to try again.
This is so neat, I had no idea you could grow sprouts without soil! I’m newer to gardening within the last year and have learned so much from your channel, thank you!
Wow amazing video!! Didn’t know that you can sprout any variety of seeds I only thought of green lentils and bean sprouts thank you Kim learned a lot on the variety!! Pretty cool!!
Cheesecloth should do the trick - sometimes it's a bit harder to drain from cheesecloth, you might need to shake the jar a bit to get all the water out. Thanks for watching and entering the giveaway - good luck!
I'm a little confused, do we let them sit in water each night or just rinse, drain, & repeat and then let them drain into a bowl over night? My mother used to grow sprouts, but she used a 2 ice cream bucket/or yogurt container method. She would poke holes in the top container that would drain or allow water to freely pass through from the bottom bucket. Then she would rinse the ones in the top container each day (once or twice, can't remember exactly) and then wash the bottom container each time she added fresh water. But there was always water in the bottom bucket to allow for sprouting. So I thought the seeds had to touch the water or maybe that is the way for bean sprouts.
Do they really need to be covered? Is it only certain varieties that need it that dark? Or just on a counter, but out of direct light ok? Trying clover, alfalfa, broccoli now. Thank you!
Soak your seeds to help germinate! Drain, rinse, repeat, and place jar in bowl to get all water out! Dont want seeds growing mold. I refuse salsa jars :) great video!!!
I like to grow broccoli sprouts. How do you get rid of the leftover brown seeds that the sprouts came from? Are they edible? I try to rinse them but I cannot get them all
Wow, I didn't realize that we could also sprout with your microgreen collection. I'm so glad that you did this video. I totally learned something new. I've been enjoying them as microgreens. I have to try the alfalfa's.
I let my radishes to go seed. The seedheads will be super crunchy and delicious before they start to turn brown! I will be growing sprouts now, thanks for your tips!
I found out this summer I had stage 1 breast cancer and have heard about all the benefits of microgreens... I was hunting a way to grow microgreens.. I am so glad I found this video about growing them in jars!! I thought I was going to have to grow them in dirtand was dreading the mess....Love the idea of having them in the frig at all times...Thank you fro you video...
Sprouts and micro greens are new to me. I've enjoyed growing the micro greens, but I had no idea that you could grow sprouts without soil and without a lot of work. I'm so excited to try them!!
I learned to mix seeds in the same jar for a tastier variety. I was going to just use broccoli seeds, as I just learned that they are really good for anti-aging. Also, using the needlepoint material and cheese cloth on the jars are great and inexpensive ideas! I am excited to get started!
Wow 😮 Thanks CaliKim. This is great. I learned that it is relatively easy to grow your own sprouts. I already have most everything I need I think I can steam my jars in the instant pot to make sure my jars are clean. I’m well on my way to a healthier new year 🙏🏻❤️😋
I bought both regular & tiny mesh needlepoint plastic sheets at Hobby Lobby . The tiny mesh is perfect for seeds the size of alfalfa ($.99 Yarnology 310573). Alfalfa seeds are pretty small. :-) With one sheet I can make 12 large lid mason/ball plastic tops for sprout making!
I learned that pretty much any seed in the brassica genus can used to grow sprouts, as well the right amount of seeds to use in each jar size. Great video as always!
Good morning, I also live in Southern California and have a pretty good cold weather garden going (cabbage, celery, peas, radishes, onions, garlic, etc) I also have about 10 tomato plants growing. I have all in pots. Is it possible to cover them using a plastic hoop house like you did. I could also put them in my wooden tough shed with lights but worry that artificial light is not enough for large tomato plants. What do you think I should do? BTW loved this video. I make sprouts all the time and eat them as a side salad to meals. I never thought of growing alfalfa.. I am sure it would be very tasty. Thanks again. Sorry this is so long.
I learned about very inexpensive ways for growing sprouts. So next time, instead of buying expensive sprouting kits, I will just make my own with a mason jar and a piece of cheese cloth. Thanks CaliKim.
This is pretty cool. And lately a lot of people have been talking about famine and food shortages and supply chain issues and not being able to get groceries. I’ve always stocked up on beans and rice and canned foods so I always had a couple months worth and could probably go six months if I absolutely had to but I would really miss the fresh vegetables. I got some stainless creamed mason jar lids and started doing the sprouting about six months ago. I don’t really know what I’m doing I just bought a mix of seeds off of Amazon that has some radish and broccoli and a couple other things in it and I just soak them overnight and then I rinse them two or three times a day and keep the jars upside down and pretty much exactly the same kind of glass bowls you have there and the sprouts have been great. I’m definitely gonna try some of the other varieties.. I like the idea of just having the jars and not having to do the micro greens but I might try it till eventually. I didn’t know there were so many options, I’ll have to try more. Also you might know, I had sprouts before and I think it might’ve been mustard but they were hot like spicy hot, if you know any that are like that does suggest it would be awesome. But it’s nice to have the fresh vegetables and especially now that people are talking about famines and food shortages. I got a 1 pound bag of seeds and I just keep two jars going so every week I go through about two or 3 tablespoons of seeds and with a 1 pound bag that can probably go 4 to 6 months I would guess. I’m gonna go ahead and order some more and I also saw you can do mung beans and other beans so I’m gonna give that a try but eat them every day now I throw them on a salad or a sandwich or whatever sometimes I just put them on a plate with some avocado and I make my own ranch dressing with all healthy stuff in it and it’s been awesome, and now with the survival food aspect of it I could probably just buy some seeds and make enough vegetables to live off of for a year or two if I absolutely had to but definitely long enough to start growing food in containers or a garden. The whole thing is kind of fun also. I’ve got three or four online friends doing it now as well. Lol
Great video! I have read that you can drink the water you pour off the sprouts as it has nutrients. Is this okay? Also, would it be better to use spring water than tap water? I am really enjoying exploring your RUclips videos!
I learned what seeds I can use to start my sprout garden. Just need to make sure I'm using any seeds that will germinate fast. I'm so starting mines as I'm watching this video. I do have a lot of seeds from my spring garden that I had. Plus I feel better knowing I can still have my salad without being poisoned with something. Thank you. I enjoy your channel.
i did not know the difference between sprouts and micros. i thought sprouts were let to grow longer time frame and get a bit more mature. huh well i guess i learned something here today. good luck to all on the giveaway and i started so "microgreens" friday and there already is tails on them... Kim your right o the flavor....MMHMMMM
I learned about the different sprouts you could eat! I only knew about bean and alfalfa sprouts. Didn't know you could eat radish and broccoli and kale too! Thanks
This is awesome to know that I can grow these lovely sprouts in the northeast. Silly question on the rinse cycle, is this done during the entire growing period or just the first couple of days. Thanks.
I didn't know they were basically the same thing other than one's soil germinated and the other water. Who'd a thunk it?! Learn somethin' new all the time. Thanks!
I learned that there are a lot of variety seeds you can sprout, did not realize you can sprout that many different types. Thanks for the info and giveaway!
Thank you so much for doing this video! I will be trying these today! Love the lid idea! There was so much useful info in the video! I had no idea you need to rise and drain! Thank you!
I learned that microgreens can be grown in something as small as a jar and that they can be harvested in little as a week! I just started gardening this past year and have learned so much!

What a great idea...my kids were just asking me today why I don’t grow sprouts....I told them I will do it and now I know exactly😍😍😍
I always start my cutting in water. Didn't realize you could grow sprouts that way. Thanks!
I learned the difference between sprouts and microgreens. Thanks Kim!
I learned the rinse, drain, and repeat method to grow sprouts. I like the video!
I learned to grow greens indoors in the winter. Micro greens, sprouts & leaf lettuce.
One of my favorite combinations for sprouting is Alfalfa, Red Clover, & Broccoli! Very tasty!!
Good to know you should only grow what you can eat since they are best consumed within a few days. Thanks for the great info!
I grow greens for my chickens in the winter since watching your older video
They grow very quickly and i did not know you could germinate without soil! I love indoor planting/growth!
I'm on my third jar of growing my sprouts. I'm glad I watched this video even though I did this years ago. What I learned was the ratio of seeds with the container used. I knew generally how sprouts worked but didn’t know you had to rinse them every day twice a day. And I also never thought of using radish seeds for sprouts. I’d be really curious how those taste. Thanks for the vid.
I learned that you can pretty much use any quick germinating seeds you like!
Wow that is so simple. I thought you needed more materials. I also learned that you can grow radish sprouts. Sound delicious. THANK YOU!
Gotta try it, Mam, it's ridiculously easy! Thanks for watching and entering the giveaway - good luck!
This whole process is new to me. While I’ve heard of it, I’ve never tried it. I’ve been wanting to give it a go. Thanks for all of the wonderful information.
Exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you, kindly, for all that you do! ❤
So glad! I love when that happens! Keep us posted, Hazel. Kim
I am going to try sprouts this wee; I only tried one other time and I let them dry out, oops, so didn't end up with any sprouts. I wasn't sure how much to put into the jar and now I know. It never occurred to me to add it to soup, sounds yummy! Thanks
I ‘m going to give this a try.
I just started microgreening never thought about sprouts thanks for the info.
This is the coolest thing ever! I had no idea you could grow spouts that easy! I’m going to make this a science project with my girls for homeschool! 🤗
Love growing my own Sprouts, tasty and deliciously nutritious. 👍💚🌿🌱🍃✌️😍
a friend gave me some sprouting seed: Peas - lentils - sunflowers - teff (whatever that is) - and buckwheat. I tried once but they did mold. thanks for encouraging me to try again.
This is so neat, I had no idea you could grow sprouts without soil! I’m newer to gardening within the last year and have learned so much from your channel, thank you!
Whoa! I always thought this was difficult to do so I always bought sprouts. So glad I saw your video! Thank you 😊
Wow amazing video!! Didn’t know that you can sprout any variety of seeds I only thought of green lentils and bean sprouts thank you Kim learned a lot on the variety!! Pretty cool!!
Didn't know you could do cabbage that way. Love the lids.
Hi Kim!! I learned you can grow your own food in just a few days 😄
Thank you for the great video and the cheesecloth recommendation, the fruit fly's have been keeping me from doing sprouts so hopefully that will help!
Cheesecloth should do the trick - sometimes it's a bit harder to drain from cheesecloth, you might need to shake the jar a bit to get all the water out. Thanks for watching and entering the giveaway - good luck!
Thank you. I learned the difference between growing microgreens (soil) and sprouting (no soil). Now I know how to do this!
9:27 anyone else freaked out by just how quickly she inhaled those sprouts? 😂😂
But there was always water in the bottom bucket to allow for sprouting. So I thought the seeds had to touch the water or maybe that is the way for bean sprouts.
What do you do about the hulls? Separate them out, or just eat them? If so, how do you separate?
Do they really need to be covered? Is it only certain varieties that need it that dark? Or just on a counter, but out of direct light ok? Trying clover, alfalfa, broccoli now. Thank you!

Hi. I didn't know greens could be grown without soil. Soil indoors is difficult. For me bc of my cat. He likes to dig.
How long do beer micro greens take to be ready in the jar ??
Start at minute 5 to get right to the content. 👍👍
Can i use any seeds to sprout ?
didn't know you could grow in a jar.
I learned that micro greens can be grown in a mason jar and I LOVE that, I have so many lying around.
Wow, I didn't realize that we could also sprout with your microgreen collection. I'm so glad that you did this video. I totally learned something new. I've been enjoying them as microgreens. I have to try the alfalfa's.
Great video! I didn't realize how quickly the sprouts would be ready to harvest. Around 5 days is awesome!

Yes, you do! Keep rinsing them until you harvest them! once sprouted, eat them or put them in the refrigerator!

Love this! thank you for such great instructions. I just bought a spicy sprout mix!! waiting for it in the mail :)
I thought sprouts were always bean or alfalfa. I didn't know they could come from other vegetables.
This is awesome to know that I can grow these lovely sprouts in the northeast. Silly question on the rinse cycle, is this done during the entire growing period or just the first couple of days. Thanks.
Thank you for such an informative video...you explained it beautifully!
Those little half pint jars Kim, does one of those feed you both a good snack? Or used in combinations? Cute looking little jars tho.
What a great idea using smaller jars! Try growing fenugreek, check up there benefits, amazing!
ah a very inspiring glimpse of your indoor gardening. We've tried mung bean sprouts in a similar way.
I learned that micro greens are easy to grow. They can be put in salads etc. They are also very nutritious.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I will be trying these today! Love the lid idea! There was so much useful info in the video! I had no idea you need to rise and drain! Thank you!

My Mom used to grow sprouts! I forgot how easy they were to grow. I didn't realize you could use almost any type seeds!
I would love to have a garden in my cabin in Birch Bay washington. Your seeds are interesting.
I tried doing this before and didn't have good results but I will try it again. You make things look so easy.
Love the info. I am just trying out sprouts. Could I use a coffee filter for the screen?
I learned that you can use any quick germinating seed for sprouts🌱
I learned the difference between micro greens and sprouts! Love your videos going to give this a try!
I have always wanted to try sprouts and micro greens. I am sure they have the flavor of the fruit or vegie they come from.
Oh my gosh are you in utah? I just saw some seeds posted on ksl that are packaged and labeled the exact same
