    Forst thing about UFC is that judges constantly flip flop about control time and takedowns. For Petr Yan they mean nothing, for islam, ngannu and aljo they're enough to win, suddenly damage and strikes aren't most important, just make up your minds already so we can have clear rules

    • @floatinggoose9197
      @floatinggoose9197 Год назад +25

      Well, WE have a clear scoring criteria. Problem is what you said, Consistency. They don't FOLLOW the criteria.
      Fans and judges alike, don't realize that certain things outscore others, cancel them out. It's damage #1.
      So IF damage is Equal, they move on..
      Effective striking is equal, they move on the grappling. Then aggression, octagon control, control time, etc. But if a guy walks down his opponent the entire round, showing some effective striking, and octagon control, but then gets rocked and dropped in the last 30 seconds. Who wins that round ?

    • @Bickle121
      @Bickle121 Год назад +5

      If the damage or striking impact is even then control comes into it more so, if it’s relatively even then control matters more. (I think yan won)
      Also it’s different judges on different nights with different fighters, it’s never going to be consistent.

    • @gilbertoflores7397
      @gilbertoflores7397 Год назад +16

      Yan sort of got screwed on the cards that night, but those same people saying he should have won; are saying Yan was Cheated out of the win vs aljo in the rematch. Fans only complain when thier favorite fighter doesn't win. Volk clearly lost that fight, stopping the takedowns and going on to lose in the striking exchanges to Islam means you lost the round. Islam then beats you on the feet and takes you down, has your back and is controlling you, and all you loand is pitter patter shots that don't help to improve postion, means you didn't do anything significant to win the round.

      @@floatinggoose9197 also what people are doing, is wanting to hate on Islam. Or put him down, so they can't compare him to khabib, or make sure khabib is still on a pedestal for best.
      They expected Islam to steamroll volk, so when it didn't happen like that, they want to give Volk more credit than he deserves. Volk definitely overperformed and did much better than everyone expected, but he still spent a large part of the fight on the wrong side of the grappling exchanges, even if he was able to stop a few take downs, and stay out of trouble on the ground, he was still put in those spots and when they were striking; Islam did better than him. Islam beat him cleanly, it was very close, but Islam did enough to get the decision.

I've seen so many people cover this topic over the past few days and almost everyone leaves out some of the important details. For example, one of the big ones is that many people have been discussing the tweets and USADA response but fail to mention that the Australia commission doesn't even allow the small amount that USADA explained. You're always thorough and I appreciate that because knowing you covered it all here gives me confidence that if I'm ever listening to a subject from you that I'm not familiar with, I can trust that you're accurately explaining it and including all pertinent information. Hardly an honest and fair "MMA journalist" it's just ridculous the amount of selective quotes this man put in the video, what i'll give him credit for it's that he's really really good at building a narrative choosing what information furthers his own(Volkanovski's camp) agenda; and gullible or biased fans thinks he's not the one muddying the water or misrepresenting things. Seems like you didnt do any research either. Ali wasnt in Australia so his tweet is totally irrelevant. Also the athletic commission recorded the cage weights of both fighters and islam came in UNDER weight. Thats a fact. If he IV hydrated he must be terrible at it cause he came into the fight dehydrated. He was actually only 2lbs heavier than Volk. This is also played a factor in Islam gassing and being less durable as the fight went on.

    • @mikeymouse3941
      @mikeymouse3941 Год назад +6

      Islam beat Volk on the feet for the first 1.5min before that, as explained. Even Volk said on Helwani that he lost the 4th. Valentina vs Santos was different. Santos didn’t win on the feet in those later rounds and when she did control her, she literally got zero offense off while Valentina was getting more damaging shots off than Volks pitter patter punches + Santos didn’t have her back for the same length.

    • @mikeymouse3941
      @mikeymouse3941 Год назад

      I just rewatched the fight. Santos had Shevchenkos back for the last 1.5min of rounds 1&3. She was losing the first 3.5min of those rounds, but not by much. 2/3 judges gave her the first round and all 3 gave her the third round. The one judge that didn’t give her the first isn’t far fetched, in my opinion, as she was winning 2/3 of that round before getting her back taken, as opposed to Volk losing on the feet, and then, like i said earlier, she was actually punching Santos with her back taken and snapping Santos’ head back pretty good. 2/3 judges also gave her round 2, where she again was winning on the feet but spent like a minute with Santos on top. Santos literally did nothing with her top position, though. Valentina had her in full guard and was landing decent punches. Valentina won rounds 4&5 clearly and per all the judges. Volk clearly won the 5th and edged out the 3rd, but to argue he won anything more is a stretch.

    I agree that the grappling rules need to be reevaluated. I think we could use a very simple criteria. Control regardless of position should mean, you are doing what you want to do, your opponent cannot do what he wants to do. If the opponent is punching you repeatedly, and you can't stop him, it does not matter what position you are in, you are not controlling the fight.

    • @t.s.p187
      @t.s.p187 Год назад +1

    • @sevourn
      @sevourn Год назад +1

      @@t.s.p187 that is the opposite of my logic. Islam did not want to be punched. He could not stop volk from punching him. He was not able to make any serious submission attempts. That is not control. To make it clearer, imagine looping that part of the fight for 20 minutes. Islam's face would be ground beef and Volk would look no different.
      You should not get points for pure postion in MMA. Position in theory gives you better opportunity to do damage than your opponent. Being in the position is your advantage. You don't need extra points allotted for the position. In the rare cases where the opponent is outdamaging you from the bottom, you are not controlling him and you are losing the fight.

  • @MrBlaqgold

    Agree with ur Rd 4 analysis... I think the distinction should be defining what 'control time' is... I think round 4 is a clear Islam round. He won on the feet before the takedown, and while he didn't damage Volkonovski, it's clear he was the one who was in a dominant position. To explain it as best as I can, Volkonovski was simply unable to move if he wanted to, while Islam could at any time. I also don't understand the missed strike analogy since, using that logic, any form of grappling is ineffective unless it causes a finish or tears a ligament.

    06:50 pretty sure Volk did...you have to understand his mindset and work ethic. The Dagestani guys don't share thier super secret techniques with the rest of the world like other disciplines so thats why people look so lost against them, but the great fighters of the era have taken bits and pieces that they learned while fighting them and incorporated it into their games and there's enough tape for a master to get a sense of what is coming and what to expect. Alex is a master, and he proved that in a fight that should have by all rights been considered a draw, but the UFC would never let that happen because the UFC hates genuine competition and it's fighters. it's why they let Tony Ferguson fight 4 months after a KO loss so bad that it was genuinely scary and it's clear he was terrified of further damage.
