    "Arguably beat" is a very long stretch. Aside from the knock down, Ngannou didn't do much else. That's not to take anything away from him, it was an amazing feat and he should be proud of himself. However, I think people are getting carried away. Fury, aside from the fact that he wasn't at his best, tagged Ngannou a lot more and subsequently won on points, that's how points work in boxing. Fury won that fight as a whole, using boxing rules, because it was a boxing match.

    • @BeigeFrequency
      @BeigeFrequency  7 месяцев назад +286

      Bro, I literally said in the video that I don't think the scoring for Fury was bad, and if you go by the boxing system of "scoring points" Fury could have won. But as I also said, if you think of this as a FIGHT, Ngannou beat his ass and some of the rounds were close enough to even score in Francis's favor.

    • @seanc7990
      @seanc7990 7 месяцев назад +107

      Ngannou didn't do much else? He wobbled fury in round 8 to the point where he was ducking his head to francis' crotch and reaching for a clinch, and won round 7 from southpaw where he landed the harder strikes, that's 3,7,8 and arguably round 2 as well, 6-4 fury is fair but 8-2 or 7-3 is a reach

      Fury did not take this fight seriously, it's as simple as that. Unprepared and flippant. Same thing happened in his fight with Cunningham, got knocked down in the 2nd. Difference is in that fight he responded with a KO whereas in this fight he was content to quietly win on points.
      He owes it to boxing and himself to have a rematch, because winner or not, this was an embarrassment.

He left his country and gave up everything he owned to go to France to train boxing. Was suggested to go into MMA, which he did at a late age. Took out every single legend in the heavyweight landscape at the time (Overeem, Stipe, JDS, Cain), as well as rising contenders like Gane and left the UFC without any clue on if he’ll get a better deal anywhere else. The fact Ngannou came out as a switch hitting, front foot counter puncher clearly took Fury by surprise. Many of his usual tricks, like making his opponent bare his weight in the clinch so he can take a break etc. didn’t work as Ngannou was far too strong and experienced in grappling. All these things make it easy to get carried away with the performance. However, exactly as you say, the body language during and their faces after the fight also tell a story.

    It’s one of those things where this was absolutely crazy when it happened but in retrospect it’s easy to go “Fury has always been very dependent on clinching and working in the gray zone of boxing and Francis is someone who is equipped with the grappling and clinch training to hang out in dirty boxing scenarios and throw him off”. Even still, that might make it more of a once-in-a-lifetime alignments, the fact that it was THIS heavyweight champ and THIS DUDE challenging

    I agree with most of what you said in your initial community post about this apart from Ngannou becoming a top 5 HW boxer overnight. Many people are saying Ngannou is potentially the best heavyweight boxer in the world or that he would beat many of the top 5 or 10 HW boxers right now. I'm willing to be proven wrong on this but I don't think Ngannou will be able to repeat that kind of success either in a rematch with Fury or especially against another top 10 heavyweight boxer, provided he gets the opportunity at either. The fact is Ngannou has the physicality to negate Fury's clinching, had a better gas tank than expected, a chin which could hold up to anything Fury threw (including that elbow) and most of all a surprising level of patience and poise in the ring. That all proved problematic for Fury and I think it comes down to a matter of styles, against another top heavyweight I don't think those attributes will be quite as impactful. In a rematch I think Fury would stick to his jab like he did after third round and win a decision. For my money Usyk, AJ, Hrgovic, Zhang, Wallin and Sanchez all beat Ngannou fairly comfortably. Wilder may not have the technical ability to outclass Ngannou and his power might not even be enough either, If I was Francis that would be the fight I'd try to get, although Wilder's team likely wouldn't allow him to take a risk like that. Doesn't change how incredible Ngannou's achievement was but I hope it teaches people to stop overhyping fighters so much, until you've faced most of the top guys in your division you can't be seen as unbeatable or potentially as an all time great. Ngannou showed why Fury has been so careful selecting many of his opponents.

    • @BeigeFrequency
      @BeigeFrequency  7 месяцев назад +14

      I'm fine with tempering expectations, because we do only have a sample size of one here. That said, I think the fact that francis was able to make adjustments to Furys jab and had success in the later rounds is actually extremely impressive. Even if you think this was a shit night for Fury, it was literally Ngannous first boxing fight ever and he went in there against the at worst #2 HW boxer and had success deep into the fight.
      As for a rematch, it's even more uncertain, but look at the leap Francis made from the first Stipe Fight to the rematch. Then think of the leap in boxing technique he made just this year. Give him another 6 months and who knows what the fuck he looks like. He doesn't seem to have a ceiling.

    • @filho4437
      @filho4437 7 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah, Francis fought a guy who was always an anti boxer.
      Not saying it was predictable or what he did wasn't remarkable.
      But I really don't think he won that fight. And the way he almost won was by being strong to clinch, which was always a huge part of Fury's style.
      Fury has a dirty style. So in retrospect you can see how it made sense for him to have trouble against someone else who isn't boxing likema boxer.
      I still think an Anthony Joshua or a Andy Ruiz would absolutely destroy Ngannou. I even think that if given a rematch, it would a lot easier for Tyson Fury to retool and adjust his camp than it would be for Ngannou.

    • @BeigeFrequency
      @BeigeFrequency  7 месяцев назад +4

      The problem for a lot of boxers is gonna be that Ngannou is so flexible. I can see him and his team coming out with gameplans for Joshua and Ruiz. And on top of that, he always has the nuclear option and a freak chin that nobody else has.

    • @slowjoe0485
      @slowjoe0485 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@BeigeFrequency Yeah I'm in agreement, Ngannou is a truly special individual, there's really no telling how good he could be but I see no use in speculating about it myself. At bare minimum we need to see him rematch Fury and then fight another or potentially multiple other top heavyweights before making any definitive claims about him being a top 5 or 10 HW boxer himself, there's simply far too many questions posed by the whole event. Clarity is desperately needed and that can only come from Ngannou pursuing boxing further which I think he should do, if a fight with Jones in MMA is truly off the table.
      On a side note; As a primarily MMA based channel, I found your coverage in this video was very rational and comprehensive, I've seen many MMA fans get overly carried away with the outcome of the fight and I commend you for not doing so. The end section about Ngannou's self belief and what we can all take from that was very well done also.

    • @slowjoe0485
      @slowjoe0485 7 месяцев назад

      @@filho4437 I think there was a little more to it than Ngannou simply being too strong for Fury to clinch, Francis showed a very unexpected level of poise and technical boxing ability in there, he looked much like a pro boxer, but I do agree I think he'll fall short against other heavyweights. I don't know whether he'll be destroyed, after what happened I can't bring myself to fully rule him out like that again, given he seems to be an incredibly blessed man, but I think his style likely won't be as troublesome for other boxers as it was for Fury and Fury would likely make the correct adjustments for a rematch.

    In 2014, Leicester City was promoted to the Premier League from the Championship. Pretty much rooted to the foot of the table for close to five months, they managed to win 7 of their last 9 matches to finally setlle in 14th place and avoid relegation.
    The following season, The Foxes were 1000-1 to win the Premier League. With virtually the same group of players, they managed to do the unthinkable and won the Premier League. Whilst another team had done similar (Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest), none had done so in the financially stacked Premier League.
    That's one of the few sports phenomena that i have seen that rank alongside this for the unlikeliest moments.

    Now lets just say hes nearing 60, and was born and raised by a cop father in New Jersey and has an outdated vocabulary regarding black athletes.
    I'll never forget him saying at the start of round 3, "I think home-boy has a chance.". Francis has done many inspiring things. Him getting my Dad to say home-boy, instead of...., is nothing short of a miracle.

    first off, i love your videos, have watched nearly all of them. commentary + the art is always great.
    However, one solid disagreement i have in this video is the fact that Jon Jones was scared of / ducking a fight with Francis.
    I think that it’s wild to portray Jones not wanting that fight.
    Jones has beaten every opponent he’s ever faced. imo he is the goat of mma (if you disqualify for PED tests, I respect that argument).
    Yes, Francis would be a very tough match up for him and probably not his ideal debut at heavyweight after a long layoff, but I have a hard time thinking Jones wants to avoid that fight.
    He seems to have the mindset of solidifying his legacy against the toughest challenges.
    Francis was taken down by Stipe and beaten for 5rds. Francis was even taken down by Cyril in their fight. I have a hard time thinking Jones wouldn’t be able to get him down and most likely end him on the ground.
    Again, it would be a tough match up, but to say Jones was avoiding or not wanting to fight Francis is not accurate to me.
    Feel free to shed light on info I may be missing and I also know that a comment always helps the video!

    *The President of PFL is going to build a hybrid-boxing sport around Francis. No kicks. No takedowns. Basically boxing with full clinch/dirty-boxing. Probably no knees. Maybe elbows. But I think it'll make a FAR more exciting version of boxing. Where the ref doesn't constantly have to step in. I can't wait to see it. Wilder will be first up. Bet!*
    I have loved your coverage for Team Francis from jump. Debunking all the bs that he was "fumbling the bag". So thank you for that.
    That being said, one critique. I dont think Jon Jones is "afraid" of Francis. I think he was trying to build hype for his HW debut. Way before Francis was champ. Two things he wanted. To bulk up properly. And to get a bigger check from Dana. We all know how that went. Giving up after Dana got him out of legal trouble again, after driving him insane with gaslighting about fighter pay. I 100% blame Dana for us missing out on HW Jon 3 years ago. But now Jon is back on the leash. Though he did put the weight on. Hopefully he recovers quick enough. Cheers!
