I mentioned this in the video, but I think it's worth doubling up on because I see so many people overlooking the freedom and flexibility he is getting out of this deal. Even if PFL goes under before Francis can get an MMA fight, he still has the freedom to go where ever he choses afterward. For a guy like Francis, that is probably worth more than whatever the UFC was offering, if it meant being beholden to the UFC and their whims.
Yes but then he's lost valuable time in terms of cementing his legacy. No fighter can afford to sit out for years, besides Jones, and still come back without losing star power.

The dick riding is so anti UFC it’s just a meme at this point. Arguing that Francis having freedom and flexibility is more valuable than the fortune he’d make in the UFC is laughable. The equity argument is equally ridiculous, athletes create equity for themselves, and the nonexistent PFL Africa is technically worthless. Maybe you’re saying the freedom to box is what’s most valuable, but no big names are interested. Francis doesn’t seem willing to fight anyone below top level boxers who have nothing to gain from him and because Francis can’t promote a fight to save his life the ppv will likely underperform. Francis is an extremely likable guy with amazing potential and character, but to enable plainly bad business decisions hurt him (the fighter) and us as fans.

Something to not underestimate as well is the vice grip that Dana has on the narrative that many fans have. He is basically a separate function of the UFC that fuels so much of the narrative around each fighter, and given how compelling he is many fans just blindly follow his word as law.
It went from "He fumbled the bag" to "its still to early to see if he won yet" even though he got everything he wanted. When a person sets a goal and achieves it then its a win, whether or not the mma community wants to accept it or not .

I'll never forget the disgust I had when Ciryl Gane, a man whose done nothing controversial and has only focused on becoming a better martial artist, walked out to a stadium of booing while Jon Jones, a heavyweight that beat his fiance in front of his kids, walked out to roaring cheers. It was that moment I knew UFC was dead to me.
I just genuinely enjoy watching Francis succeed. It's really cool to see. I feel like doing his endeavors carefully and achieving even a marginal amount of what he aimed for cements his legacy as a fighter and as a cultural figure. Even if he isn't held in the public consciousness like a McGregor or Jones or Kimbo, this is bigger than that. He is setting a standard. He got to tell Dana 'no'.
@@BeigeFrequency Leaving is one thing. Lots of other fighters have told Dana to shove off before. For him to succeed, AND not fumble the bag, he has to do it all again to a certain degree somewhere else, which he hasn't done yet. If PFL folds and he never has a fight under that promotion is that a success? If he never fights again, or does but gets beat easily is that a success too? Is simply leaving now considered a measure of success? And if so, is that adding to the delusional MMA fan thinking you talked about in the video? Look, people quit their jobs all the time. Repeating what they did, elsewhere, is what makes them a success. I wish him the best. I hope he does it.
@@BeigeFrequency No it’s not, just a lot of people don’t think a guy with a 1-1 record against stipe and one title defense is justified in his complaints. He released his pay information for his first two UFC fights last week and it was six figures plus for each. Everyone out here acting like he’s been enslaved and telling the master no. He’s not. The UFC has made millionaires out of plenty of fighters and I’d say most of them seem okay with the deal they’ve got. He’s going to a d-league organization with no roster that will not be able to afford one unless Francis has the drawing power of Jon Jones. He doesn’t. It’s likely going to be a sideshow and Francis will fade away. PFL is like the XFL or the ABA. It could be a ploy by PFL ownership to try and get the UFC to buy their promotion.
@teddyjackson1902 a guy who knocked tf out of stipe in the rematch and defended his title with an injured knee is justified in whatever complaints he may have.
@@BeigeFrequency Dana White gave Francis an opportunity and he should therefore be thankful for being paid 10k to fight + 10k for a win. He also should do Powerslap every now and then even if his technique doesn't carry over. Slap athletes are much more advanced!11!
Francis won on a personal level, but he will likely be removed from the relevant cultural consciousness outside of hardcore circles within a year. I have a good many friends that i watch fights with. Nearly weekly. None of them could name a current PFL fighter, much less a beltholder. Get that money, Francis, but the reality is that, for the non-hardcore mainstream audience, the UFC IS MMA.
Unfortunately, this is probably true. It's why I said even back in my UFC 270 video that I was hoping that Francis and the UFC could have worked something out.
They only place that brings in casuals like the UFC is OFC. But they got a great social media team and they are in Asia and Westerners love everything East Asian related
Beige, In regards to Dana's comment to the PFL burning cash, while that's been the case of many promotions like Affliction and EliteXC, let's not forget that was the case for the UFC as well. They were losing a boatload of money pre-Zuffa, the Fertitta didn't make a profit in the first years following the acquisition of the UFC. While they became a big success, it could've gone the same way as those above mentioned promotions too. Only time will tell about the PFL, but like Luke Thomas said himself, the PFL won't last if they keep doing what they've been doing in the last few years.
It seems with fight promotions it's all about risk in the early years, to get interest from fighters and fans and take on the behemoth that is the UFC.
@@Benlikesstuff Like I said, it was the same for the UFC in the early years of the Zuffa era. And let's not forget during that time they had to compete with Pride for fighters.
The difference is the UFC didn't have a juggernaut for competition in the US market. PFL is probably going to fall off I've seen this happen time and time again. Unless some extraordinarily wealthy guy wants to use this as a pet project or it's going to be fueled at some money laundering operation for some type of illegal reason it's not going to be around too far in the future
They literally lost almost 100 mill last year and then gave out a 20 million dollar deal to Francis when the PFL probably hasn't even made that much in profit since they've came back and rebranded Dana had alot of solid points in his argument
Everyone do not forget, Jon is the SAME man that said "We'd be giving him a power and strength advantage over me; it just doesn't make sense." in regards to fighting DC at heavyweight... So what does he think about Francis? Also he didn't go anywhere near HW until Francis was gone
Yes, let's not forget one thing that someone reminded me: Jon signed a new deal recently, and his previous deal was supposed to expire next year according to the contract they started drafting in 2017.

I've never paid for a UFC card (or any sporting event for that matter lol), but I might just buy a PFL PPV. Francis is out there doing good; gotta support that.
I thought he fumbled it, glad to be shown that I was completely wrong. Seems like a really great guy, and I hope this results in the fighters getting better treatment, insurance, healthcare etc. Getting CTE for peanuts is ridiculous.
You can tell Francis is genuinely a good guy. We need more of those in this world we live in today. I hope he gets everything he wants and more from PFL. I know I’ll be watching!
If you think Francis is genuinely a good guy, then you haven't seen enough of him speaking frankly in a language that flows from his lips effortlessly without requiring planning of what he'll say. Francis is genuinely a piece of shit.
I don't even care if he's a good guy or it's just to make money for himself. The way he let those promoters underestimate him as a big dumb African immigrant, and then make fools out of them, is incredibly impressive. Compare that to how easily Paddy was seduced by Dana White.
@@VersaceJesus NO ONE "underestimate(d) him as a big dumb African immigrant." That's just you projecting your own editorial bias into your perception of the situation, or you got it from the rhetoric of the Francis side of the drama, weaponizing social issues to try to make a multimillionaire look like a victim because people easily fall for a race hustle false narrative. He was already over of the highest-paid fighters and was offered even more... NOBODY was treating him like Toby (also a fictional character, btw, not historical like people incorrectly think that movie is) and laughing, that's pure false propaganda for PR reasons. Promoters are greedy, but they're not racist xenophobes, and fighters are underpaid in general, but the top ones like Francis most definitely are not, and it's fucking hilarious that multimillionaires have gotten gullible rubes who make 50 to 100k per annum to rabidly scream that it's inequitable for them to make $8mil per fight. LMFAO And all they had to do was wave racial justice tropes in front of their faces and the fools blindly sided with the ultra-wealthy and fought for them as supposed victims, completely ignoring the fighters who actually NEED good base contracts because they haven't been main event fighters yet.

It seems that everyone had written Francis off as “fumbling the bag” except a select few, you included. Anyway just wanted to give you your props. Feed nana
Francis biggest mistake was thinking that Tyson Fury was serious in fighting him. It was all about boxing. But now its about fighter rights blah, blah, blah.
Hes repeatedly turned down huge sums of money, including from the ufc, because of none financial terms; yet you people still doubt his authenticity and say its all about money. And the freedom to box is a part of fighters rights, if they're really 'independent contractors' they shouldn't be tied down to a promotion as if they're an employee (without any of the benefits of being an employee). Get off danas dick bro.
It’s always a great evening when Beige posts about MMA. Id love to see this same style of content applied to the No-Gi BJJ scene and in particular the ongoing BTeam and Craig Jones vs New Wave and Gordon Ryan saga - it’s full of drama, passion, steroids, memes, and incredibly high level combat sports
Except Sport BJJ is literally the most boring thing to anyone who doesn't actually do BJJ. It's goofy to look at, too much guard playing and guard pulling.

Its extremely refreshing to see someone have so much to gain and not only worry about themselves..he couldve easily kept making money in ufc getting paid millions while his opponent gets paid a few hundred grand..especially in todays day and age, where everyone only cares about themselves and not caring who they step over...its amazing to see someone sincerely care about their peers and make an attempt at moving not just themselves but everyone forward..ive always been a fan of francis, and im extremely happy and impressed that he succeeded in what he sought after..many others had the potential to change the game for the better of all the fighters but only cared about themselves, so good for him..
I was always rooting for Francis, and was happy when he stuck to his guns with the UFC, honestly I was sad that the UFC could not come to terms, but I am sure they just did not want to set a precedent because you know if they gave into Francis with big things well we have Conor with two fights left on his contract and no Champions clause to keep him so I would not be surprised if he would ask for something similar (Remember he was asking for a stake in the Co not to long ago). So the UFC played the long game with a fighter who has maybe 5 good years left of fighting and possible much less.
It has always been that way with the UFC. They do not want to set a precedent that any fighter is distinct from the UFC. Frankly, I think that is why they have such a hard time building stars, when they have plenty of them in waiting. They're unwilling to give virtually anyone a push because of what it could result in down the road. They want a homogenous UFC product, and I actually think that could end up being their downfall in the future.
There is noway PFL gonna make money whenever Francis will fight. Approx 10million to him and 2 million minimum to his opponent ! Already 12 million burnt and still the whole main, prelims and early prelims(if they do it) are left ! Either other fighters pay will be cut or PFL will be in debt no doubt. PFL will get a reality check when Francis will fight and will fail to draw more than 200k or 300k PPV buys

I think its way too early to say he won. He's not getting younger, not fighting for another year, and is going into the 3rd best organization (AT BEST). If PFL runs out of cash, he's fucked. And even if it works out, leaving 20+ million on the table with the UFC and the exposure he'd get with it is a lot. I'm glad he got a deal but there's more uncertainty than ever now
This deal did seem like a road map and not an actual contract. Francis will not benefit from this deal any time soon, as you said he's not very young, he doesn't have any good potential opponents to sell enough to recoup his cost for the pfl. Overall, he’ll be fine financially, but the question is “what could have been?” He could’ve been the greatest heavyweight of all time, if he would’ve knocked out Jon Jones, which is a big if, he would’ve been the biggest superstar in the world. That would’ve been the number one accomplishment he could have ever achieved.
But what's the point if you allow your promoter to fuck you on the deal? NGannou took his stance and struck to his guns. Dana's just mad someone didn't yes-man him. I wish Francis was still in the bigger promotion, but all the more power to him for paving his own path.

Why would any other promotion ever meet such ridiculous demands for anyone if they're not walking out of the UFC with the championship belt still draped over their shoulder?
Or if he somehow does get a fight, Francis will be the B-side of the fight and likely get less than he would imagine. Fury opponents made around 5 million or less, Wilder takes most of the money made for his fights like 90-95% of the money generated. So Francis is going to quickly learn he isn't going to cash out I'd he does get a big boxing match.

I'm pretty much where you're at being worried about the future of PFL. If the promotion gains traction and doesn't go bankrupt, that's a huge win. I really hope it does. However, if it goes under, then yeah Francis fumbled the bag. Can't break new ground without taking risks though.
The idea that fighters should have "loyalty" to the UFC is absolutely hilarious. There are so many people out there who are fans of the UFC as a brand, instead of being fans of MMA or individual fighters. By the way they talk you'd think they get a percentage of the profits, but they do it for free.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Well I mean it's been the only place you could watch MMA for past 30 years consistently and at a high level. Yes people are used to that promotion as being the place to watch MMA. It was that was 30 years ago and that way now.
Just as it was too early to say whether he had "fumbled the bag" before, it's now far too early to say whether he has "won" or not. For all we know he could flop in boxing / and the PFL, fail to sell many PPVs, and bankrupt the PFL because of his contract. The ramifications of that might only be further concretising the UFC hegemony and make free agency less possible or appealing. I know that's speculation, but it's to say that until I know what he's doing or see some results (including less direct 'results', like how negotiating in the UFC changes or what other free agents do that one could tie to the Ngannou move), I'm still sceptical of it and the jury is still out
Your speculation is just as valuable as anyone else's on the situation, anyone trying to make any definitive statements at this point is definitely doing so prematurely

@@BeigeFrequency That's a reach. It will be time that tells if he "won". You're doing exactly what you claim the fans do. Calling something prematurely. @@BeigeFrequency You believe that because it's what you want to believe. What freedom? Didn't he sign a new contract? What about healthcare for the fighters? Izzy and Usman signed long term deals so they lost?
I'm not sure this can honestly be considered a win. At the time when Francis was leaving the UFC he was talking about getting into boxing to fight guys like Tyson Fury or AJ or Wilder for a huge payday of tens of millions of dollars. Now, half a year later, all those talks have completely silenced with nothing at all coming to fruition and with zero prospects of change. Francis is still going to fight in MMA but in a lesser (much lesser) promotion that does not attract even a fraction of public's attention that the UFC does. He also will be fighting much lesser competition which basically nullifies all of his chances of building up some sort of long-living legacy. The reality is that people don't really watch PFL events and one relatively big name (like Ngannou) will hardly be enough to change that dynamic. So with every year Francis spends at PFL he will gradually lose popularity and relevance and with it - any hopes of getting into a big boxing fight against Fury\AJ\Wilder caliber of opponent. Thus I think that with his departure from the UFC Francis did secure himself more money in the short term but - ultimately - he lost big time: in terms of both career prospects and legacy. And subsequently potential money that he might have earned if he stayed in UFC for a longer time and built up a bigger name there. P.S. I think that these days it's very popular among 'hardcore' fans and MMA media to hate on Dana White and the UFC for some of their practicies and decisions and this leads to a clouded judgement. This Ngannou situation looks like a very good example of that.
he doesn’t beat any top boxer and will tarnish his “legacy” trying to chase a payday, and all the “supportive” normie mma fans will be the ones to blame for that. Mark my words.
If you’re going to criticize UFC for poor fighter treatment you should address PFL fighters getting 3 for 3 even after multiple fights in the promotion
Conor McGregor demanded every other fighter on his cards make LESS than they should, for no reason other than petty ego. And he's celebrated. Let that sink in.
If people stopped trying to make this about Dana VS Francis and looked at it as Expectation VS Reality they'd understand where most of the people saying he fumbled the bag are coming from, but if y'all wanna still pretend like people are taking sides instead of trying to objectively look at the situation by all means. I just hope you stick to your guns with this shit take when it's proven wrong and get back to making your Jon Jones documentary that's way more interesting than any of these videos where we've basically already heard the take from everyone else covering the situation.
He’s not won just yet…let’s just wait till he actually gets a fight and the purse he’s being paid for it. If he gets a large purse (even if it’s just one I guess) then sure it can be called a victory. But if he doesn’t get a fight and thus no payment then he is still in the same position as he was as a free agent. We need to wait and see how this turns out…
I'm expecting to see him settle for making a couple million getting knocked out by Anthiny Ruiz, beat Ben Rothwell and a couple of nobodies and then disappear. Which is a shame, he could have had a crazy legacy.
It's pretty simple I think. Francis is just not a guy that will be controlled, that's it. Dana is not used to it, so he kinda took multiple different approaches with Francis and in the end none of them worked. Used to be super high on him before the first Stipe fight, then described him as a person whose 'ego is out of control' when he lost and still wanted compensation, then endorsed and loved him again when he put his head down to go back to the top after the first Stipe fight thinking he could make big money off him, while Francis was always doing it for his own legacy and financial position. Then screwed him over with the interim belt to Cyril 3 months after Francis won his, to force him into a low-cost fight Francis never wanted because he was looking for a much bigger payday and was kind of allying with Jones to try to bring Dana on board, and that's what pissed him off. And as much as I think the UFC is great that's kind of how Dana negotiates with fighters, that's basically Dana's way or no way. Fighters take paycuts as they grind to the top, thinking they'll have more contractual power with the belt, but at the end of the day if you don't do exactly what the boss says, another guy gets an interim belt, and you either fight him at the pricepoint that's being decided for you or you lose the belt. So much for free 'contractors'. And everybody knows how bad Dana wanted Cyril to win that belt, hoped he'd teach Francis a lesson and put him back in line. I'm happy there's people who were not following the 'Francis fumbled the bag' bullshit. Dude's been thrown to die into the desert 7 times while trying to get what he wanted and still didn't give up, trying to strong arm him with media narratives and little bullshit tactics is not gonna work I'd say.
Why don't we just wait until the things play out before declaring anyone 'winning'. We don't even know what the specifics of the deal are. That guaranteed money might be equity in the company or have lots of stipulations on financials. Ariel asked Ngannou when his fight purse was going to be and Ngannou dodged the question as he obviously doesn't know as they need an opponent and some metric of how it will sell. 31:30 The '2 million' bounty is a marketing gimmick at this point. Reporters like John Nash have noted pretty much everyone note worthy is locked up in contract and Ngannou was only able to get out of his contract because of a clause the ufc inserted in 2017 because of the antitrust case. Now after he left (& he was the only active fighter to use the clause) they changed them back to super restrictive. My question is who is Ngannou going to fight that going to draw enough to make up for any PPV. Remember Fedor vs Arlovski did less than 150,000 PPV buys and that was during the red hot PPV era of 2009 when people did not steal PPVs via streams. No other promoption has been able to crack even 200,000 PPV buys in history besides UFC.

Something to not underestimate as well is the vice grip that Dana has on the narrative that many fans have. He is basically a separate function of the UFC that fuels so much of the narrative around each fighter, and given how compelling he is many fans just blindly follow his word as law.
That's why I hate ufc now. It's way too much of a hype train with the fans siding blindly with whomever the new marketing ploy is.

It was that moment I knew UFC was dead to me.
Ever heard of Greg Hardy?
Its legitimately disappointing how many people meat ride Jones.
The octagon don't give a shit about morality of a fighter only if they're a good fighter and jones was the better fighter it's not rocket science.
The cheers and boos are in context of competition. Regardless of how I feel about Jones, he's one of the best MMA fighters of all time.
UFC is a fighting competition, not a good guy contest
I just genuinely enjoy watching Francis succeed. It's really cool to see. I feel like doing his endeavors carefully and achieving even a marginal amount of what he aimed for cements his legacy as a fighter and as a cultural figure. Even if he isn't held in the public consciousness like a McGregor or Jones or Kimbo, this is bigger than that. He is setting a standard. He got to tell Dana 'no'.
This fact is being overlooked by a lot of people.

This is a solid point.

Compare that to how easily Paddy was seduced by Dana White.
@@VersaceJesus NO ONE "underestimate(d) him as a big dumb African immigrant." He was already over of the highest-paid fighters and was offered even more...
Sadly the vast majority was being paid a few thousand. Most of them were struggling to make rent.
PFL will go broke and this will be for nothing and Francis will have wasted the last good years he has, all to own the libs I mean capitalists

This deal did seem like a road map and not an actual contract. Being allowed to have huge money fights in boxing sounds all well in good before you realize nobody of name is going to actually fight Francis.

Ultimately I believe Francis "Won" because he got the freedom he was asking for.
@@BeigeFrequencyin that case Dana also won and even more.
He got rid of a fighter that sold no PPVs, complained a lot and he is still super rich.
This is just silly.
@@BeigeFrequency That's a reach. It will be time that tells if he "won". You're doing exactly what you claim the fans do. Calling something prematurely. Getting what you want but showing nothing for it wouldn't be a win. I hope he goes on to be hugely successful and helps to change the game, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket just yet.
@@BeigeFrequency You believe that because it's what you want to believe. What freedom? Didn't he sign a new contract? What about healthcare for the fighters? Izzy and Usman signed long term deals so they lost?
Backed Francis since day one, and Im glad I get to laugh and hate on all the videos that said "Francis Fumbled the bag"
This Ngannou situation looks like a very good example of that.
bro thank you for not blindly agreeing with this obviously bad move
he doesn’t beat any top boxer and will tarnish his “legacy” trying to chase a payday, and all the “supportive” normie mma fans will be the ones to blame for that. Mark my words.
These people, including beige are delusional nerds.
Pretty easy, boxers used him to boost their own bs
@@Willrocs never saw it that way but it makes all the sense in the world
Fabulous video as always. Great insights and that Jon Jones legacy comment was hilarious! Thanks Beige!
This is a random request but PLEASE make another video about quinton reviews. By far my favorite series on this channel
We need to wait and see how this turns out…
Francis Ngannou vs Ante Delija in 2024 will do insane numbers
I'm expecting to see him settle for making a couple million getting knocked out by Anthiny Ruiz, beat Ben Rothwell and a couple of nobodies and then disappear.
Which is a shame, he could have had a crazy legacy.
He will maybe get 1 mil. sad.
@@Gh0stTon this is sarcasm right?
Always glad when I see you upload. Thanks for the goodwork, keep it up
It's pretty simple I think.
Great stuff Beige. Always look forward to your videos.
Are you and The Weasle the same person?
Great work. Didn't know they speek french in Cameroon.
Im ready to call Jon: who ran over a pregnant woman, fake Christian, Popped Twice, Most fouls in history of the UFC, the Loser.
Why arent you ready?

Ppl aren’t gonna be anymore interested in PFL cause Francis is there, especially when they know his competitors won’t be same level as UFC
That's the reality of it. PFL Heavyweight is the laughing stock of MMA.

Exactly. If this was 10 years ago then Fedor would be a good matchup but in 2023 who would Francis fight outside of the UFC?
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL MAN
Okay, but how is Francis' deal 'for the fighters,' like so many of his supporters say? His deal doesn't even benefit the majority of PFL's roster.
The problem is that there are no exciting fights in the PFL. I have no interest in watching him box either.
And there is a whopping 1 exciting fight in the UFC
I feel the same with ufc these days. Especially when conor is shoved down our throats like gay rights.
