- Well guys, just got the item button wired up on this thing and thought I would give it a first time run with it going. really sloppy driving but maaaan, what a lot of fun playing this one at home.
If you are easily irritated by the sounds of fans running I recommend that you Dont Watch the vid.
Thanks In Advance
Nintendo and Hamster should make a series of arcade ports on the Switch called the Triforce Archives
For Mario Kart Arcade they could do Card Saves on the Switch itself.
Multiplayer support with 4 Player Splitscreen, Nintendo Switch Online, or Local Play.
that was one cool hardware intro
I love the commentator, reminds me of Outrunners, proper arcade sounds. Not sure if I'd like it on a home game as much :)
Sweet to see MKAGP2 up and going! I actually had a chance to play this in an arcade a few months ago, it's a great game! And yeah, while I can kinda see what they were trying with the announcer, he definitely needs to go.
Oh man, I remember playing this in the arcades. None of the four seats had a working item button, that sucked. But I enjoyed it somewhat anyway, it's just such a strange entry in the Mario Kart series.
I wanna take the time here to mention the Japanese announcer is actually really good.
It helps that the JP announcer (Koichi Yamadera) is also a very prolific VA.
The japanese version of the game has japanese commentary but here the US version has english commentary during the race. The triforce startup is looks like Chihiro
waluigi shot an item....waluigi made a drift...waluigi passed a racer...waluigi farted...waluigi... waluigi....waluigi....
Youve got a very rare classic there. Games great, and not many will have the actual hardware. For me, if its not the physical hardware, i dont play it. Appreciate the fact that you keep true to the actual games and equipment. I know ive played this game somewhere, but probably never will again, so nice vid man.
First time seeing this game, thanks for making this video and sharing it. I think in theory the announcer makes sense, trying to give the game that feel of an exciting sport game with an announcer increasing that excitement, however in execution it fails and feels more like a movie with descriptive video for the hearing impaired.
Holy shit the serial code numbers! it reads AE86 well its A86E . Now u know this is a CLASSIC!
So awesome to see this game running at your house on the original hardware! Thanks for posting this man. Brings back memories of playing the first one in Japanese arcades. My favorite thing about the triforce hardware was that namco had a hand in it as well, so we got pac-man characters in the mario kart arcade gp games =) Awesome vid Luke!
Waluigi! Waluigi! Waluigi! Lol. Still really makes me want to rebuild one of these at home.
What an an astounishing jump drift. The announcer created a new word.
There's actually one arcade at my local Peter Piper Pizza in a mall, and unfortunelly the break and item button are broken, funny enough, at the same mall there's a Japanese F-Zero AX arcade.
wow yours is running very differently compared to mine I'm playing my version of the game on nintendont mine is not have a timer and my characters don't all have their secondary vehicles
That sounds like the home version. The Nintendon't loader runs it in the home version with a (emulated) license card. Unfortunately, when you want to "Game Over", it can't emulate a license card removal, currently (not like F-Zero AX, which can).
If you wanna be more arcade-perfect, enabling "TRI Arcade Mode" will get the timer back and running, as well as emulating the coin slot (just tilt the C-stick once for each credit). Still no emulated card removal.
I think I have actually played this in a bowling alley when I was out with work once and it was great to play. I can see how the Commentator can be annoying in fact he is annoying lol ! I bet sega had something to do with him as their sonic all stars racing games sound similar but when in a loud arcade I bet its actually quire fun to be able to hear him among the shouting and other arcade noise is that make sence ? great to watch this luke. How the hell you hook things up is still beyond me :-)
3:21 That looks a bit like the Chihiro startup with the yellow text at the bottom, also I remember playing this same game in the arcade recently, awesome game! When I played the game myself, I couldn't remember whether the announcer was enabled, because I knew that the best way to get around that was to just put on earphones and listen to music on my cell phone.
The announcer sounds like the same guy who did the voice of Puck in the Sword of the Berserk:Guts Rage game for the dreamcast.
Just played this last week at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA. Awesome to have it in your flat.
i have never seen this arcade version before,,so cool yet another thing you taught me..thanks dude.
It would alright if they didn't use the same recording of the characters names in every sentence
Never actually saw a triforce in action, arcades here tend to be all pre 2000 hardware, it looks like it was a pretty powerful arcade system :)
Thanks for sharing :)
I love it...the commentator gives it this unique charm. I want! :)
pretty nice graphics, wonder if pacman and co will make it in the newly announced smash brothers as namco bandai is help developing.
Namco Sega and Nintendo is pretty much an ideal 3-way.
hi luke ive actually seen a few of the cabs and played a few and like you said the anouncer makes my ears bleed , also any luck on pengo yet?
Waluigi shot announcer, Yay! Bingo!
Omg I love Mario cart series for console never knew there was a arcade game for it.
BackagainLukehere! Woot!!
What a fun game Luke. That announcer reminds me of the Ridge Racer V announcer who is very annoying. Basically the same thing, he won't shut up. So how is the Japanese version's announcers voice? Thanks for posting this.
Was surprised namco never put this on gc considering hardware is about same.
Nice, love Mario Kart. My favorite will always be Double Dash. They need to make a new one.
Announcer: Waluigi....is trying to kill me!
the anouncer sounds liek the person who did leo's voice from tmnt
Thanks for sharing fella. Nice addition to your collection.
After you save you can turn off the announcer in the menu
You're right - that commentator needs to shut the hell up!
Great vid!
Wow! What an amazing looking game, gotta love the triforce.
If you have a MARIO CARD you can turn it off in the options the game gives you before you choose a character or something
Just subscribed, found you through retrogametech. Hey if there is no way to remove that annoucer sound by dipswitch (or something), are you gonna hunt for soundfiles on that sd card? Might be worth a shot!
There's a way to disable the announcer, and only through a save card.
Once you create (or load up) a save card, you're given the option to enable/disable the announcer.
This game has over 600 announcer clips, not hard to believe right :p The game is super fun. The over enthusiastic announcer gets old really fast tho.
Always nice to see colorful games :)
Sometimes when the announcer was about to say "Waluigi ..Shhhhhh.....ots an item" I thought you were about to say "Shhhhh...ut the f@ck up already"
cool to see how there different items than in other mario kart games. Did Nintendo publish this?
very interesting game but not even near the quality and fun of mariokart 8. it's great to see the arcade influence on home versions or other releases though. you can see this game is clearly not only produced by nintendo in terms of mechanics, colors or layout but still a very good job and intriguing version of mariokart. looks sharp and vivid, arcade style!
+Ammer Reduron It came out in 2007.
+Ammer Reduron This game came out in 2007 and it's impressive for its time.
Dario Gargano
i know it came out in 2007 and does look impressive, it's fun to play still.
Really nice video Luke - thanks for sharing! :) But the announcer! He is even more annoying, than his counterpart in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. :D
Really want to play this, never seen it in the wild before though.
Always love me some Mario Kart!
The announcer was actually Luke.
I've never had the chance to play this on arcades... Never found :(
It seems an amazing Mario Kart game. Nintendo should release this in some form. Maybe a "Mario Kart HD collection" for the Wii U...
It´s quite fast on 150cc. I would love a home version of the game, but probably it´s not going to happen. Well, that makes the board much more valuable :)
Oh, yes, the announcing is very annoying XD
Oh, 30 m. video, niiice!
Looks like fun.
Mannnn who decided to put that announcer in the game!!! "WALUGI WALUGI WALUGI!!!!"
As always .... great video .... so, you say that that system was also built to play F-Zero AX ???? If so, that's amazing ....
Great game. I played this at a Chuck E. Cheese (son b-day party) quite awhile back...and I was really impressed with it, but you are right that the announcer sucks...lol
Sadly I haven't run across it since. :(
Mario Cart GP does have someone speaking over the game or not
Well done Luke. Thx for this vid.
Oh, I didn't know they were that close .... thanks =)
Dude, I was like "Nah, there's no way the commentator is THAT annoying."
Cue Race: "Yeah.. the commentator is THAT annoying.." lol
Donkey Kong is Bangin away!
Didnt know it existed... Makes us wanna play it! ;)
Looks great. Happy Father's Day Luke.
I really don't like the way the cups are done in the GP games, it's the same track but with slight variations. I think a little more effort on tracks would have been great. I played this on my soft modded Wii which works really well.
they should have used murray walker as commentator..
When the Announcer speaks I just hear "blah blah yadda yadda ... Warrior has shot the food blah blah" Also thats not a bike its obviously a Trike :P j/p and thanks for sharing. I was wondering how emulation for this is going, any idea. I am still having fun running Gamecube games with custom PC controls but would love to mess with some setups for say Fzero AX maybe some flight stick and pedals thing.
Aberran Fox Same. I wanna buy a gamecube wheel and pedals or test some ones I have somewhere so I can play properly. Very annoying trying to get the authentic experience with emulators
Okay, that'll never happen. That's like in Splat and Moshi racing and told they'll add Sean known as Putz12, and Ribbon from Cocotama!!!
and by unique charm do you mean its the first mario kart that makes you wanna blow out your brains?
And I thought the announcer in Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing could get annoying...
How do you shoot which button do you use did you have to change something?
Hey Luke, did you ever find a way to disable the announcer? I have this game too (also bought from Andy Geezer!) and I've been trying to disable that annoying voice over without success.
The commentator sounds a little like Matthew Broderick, am I the only one that can hear it?
BOWSER!WALUIGI!BOWS WALUIGI!WALU BOWSER!
there has to be a way to turn him off, in the arcade they have it turned off, around where im at, at least.
So is this on a Disc or is it loaded off a cart or something?
there ate two buttons you can press at the same time to bring you to the game test menu the game test menu will allow you to change settings and look at the statistics you can also clear data in there also your game seems to be on free play mode for some reason although mine isn't.
While I have to go to the arcade to play it,you can play it at home....
makes me wanna break out the SNES version an wish I had the Gamecube version
Can you do a video about SEGAs The Ocean Hunter.
the announcer sounds like luke!
Is there a reason why Nintendo never released this for virtual console?
The actual game needs to be this fast on the console
I actually like the announcer.
I would like to see a crash team racing arcade game
Great video. Thanks Luke!.
Heh, the announcer is annoying -and- doesn't even get the track names right! Waluigi Cup's first track is "Arena Stadium" on the menu at 23:13, but he calls it "Stadium Arena" at 23:25 :P
I guess you have to match the board and the media for everything...
Wow you were not exaggerating one bit on that announcer guy. That is terrible. I think mute would suit this game much better. Either that or just play a console version of Mario Kart.
Does the wheel lock up?
I was able to turn him off you just need to start off with a save and it will show you this stat screen showing the statistics of your save in that screen it will give you an option to turn off the announcer
for some reason no matter how many times the game Loops The Music Never plays but on the second Loop the announcer talks
How do you manage to play these games without a cabinet?
What an upset ! O_o
would you sell the system?
You can use the camera is just that you need to buy one
Well .... queue the jealousy .... ha ha, how much would $400 be in Australian Dollars ????
For a little while that is, after half a minute I get annoyed.
ram AND memory?
Luwigy takes a dump
Good game, i suck here.
