Nice repair job as always man! Love the Victor Saturn, always thought it was so cool how the different Saturn models had different bios screens. Haha, enjoyed the tandem Rock Man intros. X4 and 8 are still two of my favorite intros to watch.
Hey thanks for the video Luke. Great as always but I really appreciate you doing this console repair video. My Saturn has been kicking back into the bios intermittently and skipping in cold startups. I cleaned and lubricated the rails and gears and it works like new again. Thanks again.
Thank you, luke. Actually I'm fine with handhelds but I still have to learn a lot and need to buy more precise quality tools to my inventory. I suppose Sega Saturn will be next ;) But it's always so great to see that some could safe a machine and bring it back to life for the posterity. Even I can't avoid a little bit of normal envy. A little bit. The collector/gamer heart is pumping :P Enjoy
Luke, do you have some kind of ebay store or someting similar where people from all over the world can buy spare items & consoles & similar stuff that you fixed? Because those might work better than the new ones! xD Always a pleasure to watch your videos, one of the best youtube channels indeed! Thank you.
still have the very same saturn i bought when my dad took me to my local game shop way back in 94. its still going strong to this day. original lazer etc. thanks dad for taking me to get it ;-)
Very nice work Luke. Do you have any techniques to remove the horrible yellowing that occurs on SNES, Dreamcast and Gamecube grey plates ? (where the controller ports are). The only solution I've seen so far is to repaint. Or would you know any kind of product that would prevent that yellowing ?
Very cool! I love the way the v Saturns look, but I like the hi Saturns a bit more, I'm sure you have a few of those haha, sega game Japan such cool exclusives like the wonder mega which I'm sure you also have. Awesome stuff.
Nice work Luke glad u got them both running. How much does a working Japanese Saturn go for I have like 2 games Slayers royal 1 and 2 but no japanese saturn.
I got a white Saturn for 780¥ from the junk bin at the main Akihabara Super Potato and it worked great! They also had a 50¥ Virtua Gun. Was worried what they might think at the airport since it was black, unlike the American version ("Sega Stunner"). :)
I would usually check if the disc hub is at the correct height before attempting to adjust the laser pot. A lot of the time through years of use the hub will be seated too low for the laser to pick up. I fixed at least 8 Saturns that wouldn't spin the disc by just reseating it while using a flathead screwdriver to keep it from going to far down. Are you interested in any broken Saturns or parts?
Wow, well done fixing the Saturns :) I love the Saturn just got a new one cause my old one broke :S (he is doing the same as the one you changed the laser but i have nowhere to get a new laser)
Hi Luke - I've wanted to ask you this for awhile. I've noticed that on many on your Japanese released games, there is English text on the CD's, covers, etc. Is that common for most games down there? Nice work on the video. Looking forward to future repairs.
Wow, you have spare parts for everything! XD And now I want to play with my Saturn again. And the video ends with a Rock-fest! Double J-Pop for my ears. My brain can't handle such overall awesomeness...
Wild....crazy...just plain old AwSoMe...Luke that waz fucking cool.Great job on both units they look fantastic. thoroughly enjoyed seeing both Saturns goin at the same time. A rare treat! And it shows you never judge a book/game by its cover! Hahaha...what makes the victor run faster the new laser perhaps..or just the systems bio's? I purchased mine new an have never had a problem with it..how much was the laser? If you don't mind me asking! Great video bro. Keep up the awsome work.
Cool, nice to see that the laser mechanics are not too bad to clean. Mine does read discs every time from a cold turn on, but it probably wouldn't hurt to clean and grease the rails & gears though. But after I have played it for a while (one or two games) you can see horizontal racing lines and it won't read any discs. Annoying for sure, but fine if you play a single game for ages or if you have a quick go at a few games. Not sure what could be the cause, but obviously sounds like a component.
Hey Luke love the channel! Having a bit of bother I hope you don't mind me asking you a question. I recently bought a white pad off ebay that was a bit messed up had to resit the buttons and scrape a lot of gunk off the contacts. It works but since plugging the pad in my white saturn has started displaying graphical glitches. Can a pad even have that effect? Real pain, just got darius gaiden after watching your vid as well. cheers.
I recently picked up a model 1 Japanese Sega Saturn. It doesn't work. It loads up to the welcome screen but it won't read disks. I moved the laser out to the end as you did in this video and when I fire up the machine, the laser moves. The disk doesn't spin though. That's not the only problem. The welcome screen turns into a solid flashing screen. I noticed that the flashing started when I close the CD lid. I know you can't diagnose the problem without having the machine in hand. I was just wondering if you think this could be fixed with a new laser or if you think I should just pick up a new Saturn. I'd like to salvage this one as I hate to see a classic like this not being used anymore. However I can't afford to sink a lot of money into it. I'm guessing the problem is more than the laser, but I'm not at your skill level when it comes to electronic repairs. I was just wondering if you ever encountered the problem before and if you had any advise for me. BTW I live in the USA. Thanks!
TechHarvest Probably a laser problem. But i have no idea what is causing the other problem. I have a model 2 Japanese Saturn and it doesn't happen on that.
Funny how my PSone, PS 2 and even my Dreamcast all had problems but my Sega Saturn never had any after all these years. It even loads scratched and dirty discs. One durable and easily fixable hardware that's for sure.
Should the Dreamcast laser be showing a red light as well? Sorry for the dumb question, but I was restoring and fixing my first flea market DC, and I did get it to work, but there still is no red light coming from the laser. This brought me some concern after this video lol. By the way, I love your channel! Subscribed!
I've been looking for a detailed Saturn repair video like this! I've got a North American Model 1 that I've been working on. I had to use a computer jumper to trick the door switch connector since it always came up as "Drive door open". Jumper worked, but now it says "Drive empty". Plus the laser and drive motor are both noisy. Motor is a bit squeaky. Luke, do you have any other tutorials or tips for the Saturn that can help me out?? Thanks!
Question please!! My Japanese Saturn is reading my nights and fighting game only have 2 atm but it wont read mr.bones... why is it reading some discs and somd no ?
Nice job man, I just bought two broken Saturns a few weeks ago and it turns out that the first one I bought only needed the cd spindle to be popped back up into place the second one which came with a 3d controller and a game was missing a fuse and wouldn't power on even with a fuse so I'm probably just going to use it for spare parts.
I have Megaman 8 for the PS1. Quite nice of a game, i like the joyful colors in it and smooth controls, although I'm not a fan of the playstation controllers.
Oh, man, luke. The white sega saturn, is beautiful... I hand painted my American saturn to be like that. ...It looks pretty bad, but I can't find a reasonably priced saturn at the moment.
Cool video!! Although I think the comparisson part would've been better if you tried using 2 copies of say... Virtua Fighter 2 (one of the cheapest and most common games) on both systems.
Have you ever used the white lithium grease in a spray can Luke, that's all I can find locally. Would it be ok if I spray it on a q tip and apply were needed?
it is a sega saturn but made by a company named victor as far as i know^^ it is just like the 3DO, where you had different companys wich made the same console but they always looked different and had their own intro or menuscreen =)
I'll try the white lithium grease you mentioned in the video! Sorry to make you repeat yourself. I wasn't quite through watching it when I commented. Thanks for the reply Luke!
The Saturn has so many great arcade titles. I'd love to convert one to JAMMA standard to play on my cabs for a more authentic feel. Have you ever converted any consoles to JAMMA Luke? It'd make for a pretty cool video I think.
Hey luke, i just wanted to know, i see on ebay some mvs slots that are apparently dead but they're pretty cheap. Is it easy to fix them ? and also is there another method to get video directly from the board instead of using a supergun ? I hope you'll have time to answer me Arthur
Hi, then. Can you give a hand, pls? I've got a Skeleton model Saturn, I've just changed the laser board and lens, and its working very well while the console is open. When I close everything the disc just wont spin. Opened console works, closed dont. Instead I got the "drive empty" message. Can you imagine why? Thanks a lot
How rare are those vector saturns?from what i understand if i remember right they were used in cars for like playing movies and had a saturn gps attachment, maybe im wrong but seems right?
Awesome videos! I have a Model 1 Sega Saturn, and it used to work in the past, and just recently I tried used it again -- honestly for the first time in a long long time. I plugged it on, and started it all up but after a few minutes it just shuts off. Everything besides the TV turns off. What can be the cause? I have cleaned the Sega out with air but it still seems to be doing it every time? Thanks !
Hey there! My Sega Saturn is having two major problems keeping me from playing games; one is when I go to close the door for the drive once I place in the game it insists the door isn't closed and the other is when I'm playing some games it stops the game on and off showing that I'm pausing when I'm not. I'm not sure what's happening or what the problem could be.
Ok thanks buddy, it's a unique slot MV1B, and it's only 10 bucks, shippings are worth 45 bucks though...I have to get a jamma harness and stuff and i'll try to get it to work. Do these slots break easilly ? because the seller is selling like 10 slots at a time lol
my saturn plays fine for a while then the picture gets all scattered. I usually have to set a weight on top to get the picture back. what's going on with that. the game will still play but looks like when the old Nintendo carts would get distorted.
i just bough a tectoy saturn with a region mod. everything worked fine, except with shining wisdom. when i first played it, the initial cut-scene didnt show up, then, when i resetesthe console, it sent me back to the menu screen and only then read the disk. it might be a problem with the game.... but the disk looks new, no scratches, nothing..... i wonder what it might be.
btw, do you know if it is possible to make the saturn jamma compatible? i just found an old rgb scart cable for my saturn and thought, maybe i can cut of the scart end, solder the rgb, sync and ground wires to a jamma fingerboard and then do the same thing with a saturn powercord and also connect it to that fingerboard so i would have power, sound and video. all i had to do then is hacking a saturn pad for the controls, but that is easy^^

Nice repair job as always man! Love the Victor Saturn, always thought it was so cool how the different Saturn models had different bios screens. Haha, enjoyed the tandem Rock Man intros. X4 and 8 are still two of my favorite intros to watch.
I guess it is kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
Awesome. Love watching all these videos of you fixing stuff. I hate to see all these consoles go to waste. Good job on the Saturn repairs.
This guy fixed a neo geo arcade cabinet for Classic Game room.
Keep your awesome work, Luke! May the force be with you!
I love the opening sequence on the Japanese saturns :)
I have been waiting for this one since I am a huge sega fan
Luke, you are amazing. Saving these old consoles from the bin. Nice work.
The Victor Saturn looks so nice. Great Job, luke. I learned new things :)
Enjoy your Sunday
Hey thanks for the video Luke. Great as always but I really appreciate you doing this console repair video. My Saturn has been kicking back into the bios intermittently and skipping in cold startups. I cleaned and lubricated the rails and gears and it works like new again. Thanks again.
These kind of videos are the best. Great job Luke.
You have once again used the force for good young Luke. The rebellion needs young Jedi like your self. Lukemorse1 a true videogame Jedi.
well done luke.its satisfying to fix consoles. you just reminded me i need to replace the lazer in my playstation 1
Fantastic bit of restoration work there. I love watching these vids!
Awesome repair!
I'm with Paul K. A lot of people would buy off you and probably pay more than standard prices knowing you restored it properly. Nice video.
Thank you, luke. Actually I'm fine with handhelds but I still have to learn a lot and need to buy more precise quality tools to my inventory.
I suppose Sega Saturn will be next ;)
But it's always so great to see that some could safe a machine and bring it back to life for the posterity. Even I can't avoid a little bit of normal envy. A little bit. The collector/gamer heart is pumping :P

Always a pleasure to watch your videos, one of the best youtube channels indeed! Thank you.
Checking ribbon cables like that is a must, with the 32x the two ribbon cables are notorious because of the heat generated during play.
Great fixes again, Luke!
luke did it again you the video game savior for broken games
still have the very same saturn i bought when my dad took me to my local game shop way back in 94. its still going strong to this day. original lazer etc. thanks dad for taking me to get it ;-)
Man, 2 more saved from the fire! Great work, Luke!

I was promised a white Sega Saturn at the flea market this saturday, what they brought out was a PSone ;~; Good job, Luke!

Another two systems saved from the grave. Just goes to show what some cleaning and some simple repairs can do.
I have a Sega Genesis and I never really owned a Sega Saturn and good repair there man 👍 maybe I could get me a Sega Saturn down the road someday
those both look gorgeous. much nicer than the western saturns imo
nice job!
I didn't know the JVC, etc. Saturns had their own splash screens on boot, that's cool.
good work lucke as allways. saturn is a great console, it is good, to hold him at life. nice brother...
You should only use silicone-based grease, as oil-based greases could eat away at the plastic over time.
White lithium was one of his suggestions, and it's perfect for components like this and won't damage the plastic at all.
lol that was a great idea, with hitting the powerbutton on both saturns at the same time =D
Hey Luke your vids are awesome keep it man

It figures that the saturn that looks good doesn't work while the one that's messy does. I half-expected that when I was watching this. lol
the saturn is awesome looking
Love my Sega Saturn they were built to last.
The Sega Nomad would be my ultimate favorite portable console to date.
great job reviving that victor!
When the intros to Rockman played I noticed that white saturn the picture on the tv was crisp like it was new or had a little of ps1 graphics.

impressive console for its time
saved from landfill well done

I've bought 5 "broken" Saturns on eBay that had new lasers with the anti-static solder bridge still connected.
Great job, Luke!
Question please!! My Japanese Saturn is reading my nights and fighting game only have 2 atm but it wont read mr.bones... why is it reading some discs and somd no ?
Japan = Rockman, Everywhere else = Mega Man
Can you list the types of products you use in the description
Nice job man, I just bought two broken Saturns a few weeks ago and it turns out that the first one I bought only needed the cd spindle to be popped back up into place the second one which came with a 3d controller and a game was missing a fuse and wouldn't power on even with a fuse so I'm probably just going to use it for spare parts.

Your a beast Luke :-) well done !
Cool video!! Although I think the comparisson part would've been better if you tried using 2 copies of say... Virtua Fighter 2 (one of the cheapest and most common games) on both systems.
I took the top casing thing off, and never put it back in. My problem fixed for a while, but now it got worse, I'm guessing I did the wrong thing...
Have you ever used the white lithium grease in a spray can Luke, that's all I can find locally. Would it be ok if I spray it on a q tip and apply were needed?
You are amazing! But you was lucky on the white one ;)
it is a sega saturn but made by a company named victor as far as i know^^ it is just like the 3DO, where you had different companys wich made the same console but they always looked different and had their own intro or menuscreen =)
on the victor Saturn, everything is gray. so why the hell would they stop short at the connector for the controller? i mean really?
Sounds like a car door chime when you open it.
That difference in games appearing on the screens is probably cause because one is crt other one lcd and we might expiriencing some kind of lag.
I'll try the white lithium grease you mentioned in the video! Sorry to make you repeat yourself. I wasn't quite through watching it when I commented.
Thanks for the reply Luke!

Arthur
Hey luke what do you do with all ur repaired consoles? Do u keep them? Sell them? Give away?
Woah. Pubic hair? How? I hope I never come across any of that stuff while cleaning out one of my systems. What system was it?
Hi, then. Can you give a hand, pls? I've got a Skeleton model Saturn, I've just changed the laser board and lens, and its working very well while the console is open. What is actually the difference between the Victor and Sega Saturn?
Luke that old laser could it be the lens underneath?
is this a new series?
Repairs!
Cool . What is a victor saturn .
I did not see the vid where you picked these up, what is it listed as so I can watch it? thanks
oddly enough those are the 2 games I would actually buy if I had a saturn
btw, do you know if it is possible to make the saturn jamma compatible? i just found an old rgb scart cable for my saturn and thought, maybe i can cut of the scart end, solder the rgb, sync and ground wires to a jamma fingerboard and then do the same thing with a saturn powercord and also connect it to that fingerboard so i would have power, sound and video. all i had to do then is hacking a saturn pad for the controls, but that is easy^^
Hey luke, I remember a while ago you got a blue swirled Dreamcast controller. I have a spare Dreamcast to go with it if you want it?
Hey ***** I still have my Saturn that I purchased just after launch, which has been kept in a pristine condition (although used regularly) its whole life (Stored in box when not in use). Just over a year ago, after having not used it for a couple of years, I tried booting it up, only to have the same problem your Victor Saturn was displaying. The laser and cogs move freely and there is absolutely no cleaning that needs doing- It looks as though it has just been manufactured. Which leads me to conclude that my laser has also gone. So my query is, where can I purchase a replacement laser from (this is a PAL system)? How much will this cost me (that's not a big issue-just so I have an idea)? Also is there any chance you could upload a video showing how to do this?
Cheers
Sorry- I clicked another of your videos and you show everything I have asked... Thanks
eBay has lasers for the Saturn pretty cheap.
